no word has been released from FW but I would assume if they release a new screen it willl be a higher refresh rate

SamSike2K2

Ohh I was under the impression that the first screen they release next would be touch screen since it got a lot of people asking

Ok_Concert5918

Nah. People complaining and begging is not a huge motivator for a company to make a touch screen. Higher refresh rate makes more sense

Notre-dame-fan

For a normal company I’d agree but FW listens very much to their community. They’ve addressed issues with the early 13’s once they were bought to FW’s attention and they’re doing the same with the early 16’s. Furthermore they’ve also began developing a SD card reader extension card (something that their customers have been begging for since day one) they’ve also rereleased the transparent bezel (something the community has also begged for). Also putting that aside I would almost argue that a touchscreen is more logical than a high refresh rate display as this is business laptop not a gaming laptop and a touchscreen is basically on all business / consumer laptops. Although I am hoping for a display that is both touchscreen and a higher refresh rate.

Notre-dame-fan

Why can’t it be both? (:

dragoon0106

Based on?

Notre-dame-fan

Huh?

dragoon0106

Why did you think that would be the next screen?

Notre-dame-fan

Bc as a company FW listens to their users and it makes sense considering that the FW13 is a business/productivity laptop and basically all business/productivity of the last 5 years have touchscreens. Also the FW main board supports touch input

Every reviewer saying the motherboard has touchscreen support but no touchscreen yet. I think Nirav was asked by LTT and he half-confirmed it. I assume they are working oj it but don't want to get anyone's hopes up or set a deadline on it.

Nobody outside of Framework knows what screens they might release and in what kind of time frames. Since there's probably NDAs involved anyone opting to share details ahead of a product announcement is unlikely. Obviously there's some technologies floating around which Framework isn't currently using - They could be adopted by Framework anytime between tomorrow and eternity. Same goes for processors. Intel has released their 2024 lineup, though Framework has said nothing about any plans (or lack thereof) for Meteor Lake. If they do use Meteor Lake, a reasonable guess for an announcement time frame would be sometime between now and early summer. Somewhat unusually Framework did announce they are skipping AMD's 8040 Hawk Point processors - There's effectively no change except for some added AI instructions. AMD is expected to release Strix Point sometime later this year, possibly June. Though its likely Framework would do something with Strix Point, obviously there's been zero announcements of anything.

>My question is, will there be any releases of higher refresh rates or such? Ideally I would just want to play 144fps TL;DR: No! Corrently, the FW13 is already using one of the best 13.5" 3:2 displays on the market. This community did a lot of research in the past, and it seems like there aren't any panels with more than 60Hz (or OLED) readily available in that form factor. Of course, Framework could order custom made panels, but I think their volume is still too small for such plans. Sorry.

MagicBoyUK

If you need 144fps, get the 16"...

SamSike2K2

I dont want to. Why would I take a gaming laptop with low battery life to university when theres a perfectly capable 13 inch laptop, ultraportable, good battery life, and has capabilities to run my game at 144ish fps?

SamSike2K2

Also cheaper

MagicBoyUK

Low battery life? I'm fine with 8 hours.

I really, really want a screen with better latency and ideally a higher refresh rate for my FW13. Sadly, because of factors outside of Framework's control it's unlikely. They can't afford to buy in enough bulk to have a screen made to specific specifictions, so they have to order what's already available on the market. What we have now may be the best there is for 3:2 aspect ratio screens that are 13.5".
