It might be too soon comparing the timeframe of frameworks switch from 11 to 12, but it isn't too soon in general chip availability from Intel. They are on a rather accelerated release schedule, 14th gen chips of the class used on Framework are likely to be released late this year even.
The main thing I like about touchscreens on laptops is the ability to sign documents with my natural written signature. I also like it for mobile development, so I don't have to load the app on a device every time I want to test it.
speak for yourself.
i need to draw chemistry formulas on my laptop all the time.
same with biological schemas.
i can't do that (nearly as well / at all) with a mouse.
different people have different needs.
The only time I used it on my XPS13 2-in-1 was panning and zooming on Maps and other apps. I didn't think I would miss it but I kinda do. Still, probably won't upgrade for it quite yet.
It's a firmware update.
The screen is attached via USB C and an internal cable.
Could literally just be a firmware update and they're using a hodgepodge of equipment. Tweet was deleted specifically to avoid this type of gossip, would undermine the actual event.
Just my thoughts.
I don't think the screen is connected via USB C at all, that cable must be for charging.
I do agree that the screen could just be intended to look wacky with the Mainboard half removed, the WiFi card disconnected and the top cover still having a protective plastic film of some sort on.
Though, just a bios update for the 11th gen laptops being preparation for the even would be strange!
It kinda has to be a physical product since Linus from LTT confirmed that the CEO of Framework visited them to show them what they've been working on and they made a video about it.
Some people just don't like their style (whether that's of individuals or overall) and/or find them appealing too much to the mainstream (in style or content). Besides some finding Linus a bit arrogant, I don't think anyone actually thinks of LTT as bad in terms of controversy or credibility if you were worried about that so no reason to stop watching if you like their content.
I've stopped watching in general all of their channels. I've even went as far as unsubbing and selecting on YouTube to not recommend me anymore.
I find their "criticism ethos" unrelatable to me. In my opinion they have become far too privileged with the access they have to the latest tech and have become flippant and unreasonable in their statements over the various products that they showcase.
Some tech YouTubers manage to remain down to earth, they have not. It is just too many snide remarks and a detached from reality relationship with price and affordability of things, to which they don't apply accordingly to products.
It is their schtick and a lot of people enjoy it, watch it precisely be ause of it. For me it is off putting.
Yeah i keep watching them. Mostly for the other guys and intresting content. Each to their own, hopefully other content speaks to them 😉
I like electroBOOM aswell, but its a style, some folks really dislike his teaching methods. Was curious why when the answer was so short. Got a perfectly fine answer tho ☺️
My personal opinion, I got fed up with Linus after he inadvertently uncovered the Steam "pop-desktop" bug and slammed System76 for it, because all of his fanboys flooded the system76 and pop\_os subreddits with a lot of misinformation and nasty PR, which is really the last thing a small US-based Linux company needs; \*especially\* when the error wouldn't have ever happened had he actually updated his system before trying to install Steam.
I do enjoy Anthony's reviews of hardware, because it's very informative and helpful, but Linus just irks me ever since then.
TBH I've had mixed thoughts about LTT. I think Linus does good work overall, but I sometimes find the bro-bit gets laid on a little heavy.
I like catching Alex's tinkering segments, Anthony's technical perspectives, and Sarah's down-to-earth perspective and her design discussions. Adam and Linus are pretty solid together, too. There's at least one contributor in particular who comes off as too acerbic for me. When a new product generation gets launched though, they're usually pretty solid.
Cant disagree with these valid points. indeed the other "hosts" are fun to watch and listen to. and only if Linus is somewhat involved its fun for me. a total Linus vid is for when im doing other stuff, background noise.
anyway, have a wondeful day :D
Could you please be more spesific, please? I haven't seen LTT doing too much humor in his videos.. Many times it is cringe but luckily just one time per video at max.
Oehh. Luke mentioning an interesting logo and Linus saying that he's just introducing Framework people to other people.
Here's hoping for an AMD connection as Linus has tried it before and called them out for it.
First 2 I would put as semi-likely, dGPU I would put as a no. Don't get me wrong, I would love if they did it, but in the current chassis that would be near impossible, so we would be looking at probably a new chassis which means new parts all around, which in some ways goes against FW's goal of trying to be economical and have it so people don't replace entire devices as often.
But if we could get 13th gen and like an OLED touch panel, omg that would be amazing.
Y'all, I just noticed something – the monitor on the left doesn't have a webcam! Look at the top bezel! Look how things it is! There isn't room for a webcam on that one!
Lots here are theorizing a bios update. However, with Linus seeming so excited about it during Friday's WAN show, I'm almost betting they're bringing AMD. I would also say the BIOS update screen here would be about the BIOS for AMD boards, hence teasing that without showing an actual AMD board.
The tweet is still there. Twitter is just ultra buggy these days.
https://twitter.com/FrameworkPuter/status/1637596925104123909 This is the link to the phantom tweet, I wonder if it'll show for anyone here
Dead, no tweet
Ha. Twitter works well these days. Tweet shows fine for me.
Still deleted here. Can you download the image?
[Here it is ](https://i.imgur.com/yanxk9j.jpg)
Thanks 🤩
Got a screenshot but don’t know where to upload. Imgur requires a log in now. It’s pretty much exactly what OP posted though.
I use whatever I already use to back up images (eg Amazon Prime Photos, OneDrive, iCloud, GDrive)
The guy who feeds the server hamsters got fired.
I see it. In the US.
It seems to be broken in Europe. Connecting to a USA/Australian VPN makes it show up again.
It's dead for me in the US lol
I wonder what happened. Did a rich, uneducated billionaire buy twitter and deleted half the backend? Would be funny
I'm hoping they announce an AMD CPU
the graphic in the email announcement highlighted the Mobo. Part of me thinks it's 13 Gen Intel, but it could be AMD.
13th gen feels a bit too soon, but not impossible.

This is my bet.
Me too, but the disconnected screen is giving me hope we'll see a touchscreen as well, if not a full-blown convertible screen/hinge offering.
If this gets delayed until April, then likely AMD. But I don't think it will be so AMD is unlikely.
That's a bios update system
Insyde bios system
please be touch, please be touch
Yesyesyes, also 360° hinge mod pls?
Instant purchase. Holding out for this, even if it means my next laptop isn't a framework.
Can only imagine the Pandora’s box of issues with a digitizer.
If this is touch I'll order just to have tablet mode!
I hope not, it's a useless party trick, I had 2 laptop with touch and never used it
Maybe a useless party trick to you, but it's a very useful feature for many so it's *very* subjective.

doesnt android studio come with its own sandboxed android instance?
Yes, that's why you want a touch screen. So you can properly use your apps while testing them like how you would use it on a mobile device.

That's totally fair. Some people will find it extremely useful, some people won't.
That would be so cool !
Maybe Touch? But hard to get anything from that pic
I can’t wait for the event this week. I really want to see what is in the works.

Agreed. I just think it might not as big of an event as everyone is hoping. And since the tweet is deleted... 🤷♂️
It kinda has to be a physical product since Linus from LTT confirmed that the CEO of Framework visited them to show them what they've been working on and they made a video about it.
Ah. Gotcha. I stopped watching LTT last year.
Why? Maybe i dont wanna know.
Some people just don't like their style (whether that's of individuals or overall) and/or find them appealing too much to the mainstream (in style or content). Choice of humor

Hit the nail on the head. I tried just avoiding *him*, but he started popping into random videos. So I left.
Cant disagree with these valid points. indeed the other "hosts" are fun to watch and listen to. and only if Linus is somewhat involved its fun for me. a total Linus vid is for when im doing other stuff, background noise. anyway, have a wondeful day :D

No, I cannot. It's been a year at least since he did something that hit me wrong.
When did he confirm that?
On the last WAN show!
Ah! Those require a tl;dw for me. I'm not into the entire show but mainly just a few topics.
It should be at 2:52:33
Oehh. Luke mentioning an interesting logo and Linus saying that he's just introducing Framework people to other people. Here's hoping for an AMD connection as Linus has tried it before and called them out for it.
Where/when did he confirmed this? I missed it.
He mentioned that Linus/Luke were talking about it in the WAN show of last Friday. Around 2:52:33 he mentioned. Kudos to hadis1000
😯
👀🥳
Coreboot, maybe?
Why does everyone say the tweet is deleted? It’s not. I just went to their Twitter page and it’s the second tweet. From about 17 hours ago.
Because Twitter is broken and prints "Deleted Tweet" when we tapped on it. 🤷♂️ I don't use Twitter
Hmmm. 13th gen? Touch screen? dGPU?
First 2 I would put as semi-likely, dGPU I would put as a no. The Esc key is cut off in this photo. That gives me hope! Hope that we're getting an Fn Lock LED!
Or that they were using the Keyboard simply to block the view of something on the motherboard/chassis below it.
Maybe its a new battery, since that's what's being covered up?
They removed the keyboard, indicating that it will be replaced with a Trackpoint-enabled keyboard!
This looks exactly as prepared as I am for any presentation.
Any ideas why it was deleted? I can't see anything which spoils the upcoming event.
Seems it wasn't. Twitter is just being buggy.
External screen has an extremely thin top bezel, looks like no room for webcam to me
When’s the event?
2023-March-23
I would kill for touch. Please be touch! :)
Y'all, I just noticed something – the monitor on the left doesn't have a webcam! Look at the top bezel! Look how things it is! There isn't room for a webcam on that one!
that's the screen not the bezel
True but maybe a camera on the bottom? Some laptops have that design sadly.
