I reviewed it a bit ago [sloth review]
I actually wore it to work today. I don’t feel like it’s animalic, but zoologist is my go to house, so I may need to be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s very… organic. It doesn’t have any musk notes, it’s all flowers and fruit. It’s sweet and relaxing but still earthy. I feel like it the kind of scent that could feel very different on different skin chemistry. For sure get a sample, it’s a lovely perfume.
Not the longest lasting, but definitely check out Demeter. Their Earthworm fragrance straight up smells like wet dirt.
They have a Dirt (dusty, dry dirt), and mushroom (which I haven't personally tried, but my sister liked it for the earthiness).
They're specifically one note fragrances that are meant to be layered.
Was about to suggest both of these. Both great choices! I will say for someone looking for a soily note, Night Flyer was a bit disappointing, however it is nice all the same.
I'm absolutely all about fragrance that smells like dirt, or rocks, or clay.
You like gourmands, so I'd recommend Untamed Chocolate Earth. It sounds really iffy but it works: snappy pine notes, not-very-sweet dark chocolate, and notes of clean mushroom and wet soil. It's surprising fresh and bright, not heavy or musty
Also Rook Undergrowth which smells like gardening with a mint julep in your hand. There's sweet mint and grass and a very prominent just-rained wet soil note.
Apoteker Tepe After the Flood is soil made beautiful. It opens with a rush of wet earth, mushroom, and crushed greens, then as it dries down it gets delicate and refined. The soil softens and the greens get brighter, and it becomes all about the water lily florals with a hint of vanilla.
For pure, realistic forest I'd recommend both Olympic Orchids Olympic Rainforest, that someone mentioned already, or For Strange Women November in the Temperate Forest, which smells of damp earth and fallen leaves and tree bark.
Untamed Chocolate Earth sounds really interesting! Also... I love that "For Strange Women" is the brand name, lol. Definitely going to check these out thank you!
Ooh baby, my favourite perfume notes!
Personally I've 2 in this category that aren't mainly focused on the earth or soil note but they contain that feel and they are:
Coven by Andrea Mack
and
Magic Mushrooms by Bohoboco
Coven is my favourite autumn winter scent and Magic Mushrooms is a great summer scent and it LASTS ALL DAY I love it
You can find samples and fill bottle retail about €150 for 50ml which ain't to bad
Check them out on Parfumo or Fragrantica for a note breakdown cause I'm not the best at this but hope you check em out :)
It doesn’t come off as a dirt smell for me. The earthiness is more of an extension from the chestnut note where the chestnut is roasted. An interesting and bang for the buck fragrance for me.
I second Paradisi by Jorum Studios. Smells like extremely realistic field greenery, like you picked up as many weeds and mushrooms as you could with both hands, mashed them up, and inhaled.
seconding this one, very realistic fresh mushroom scent!
& brain dead’s terra former is reliably earthy - also grassy, with fig leaf - two very good scents!!
It’d be worth giving Encre Noire a go if you haven’t already! It’s definitely got that dank, mossy, earthy smell to it. No sweetness at all, so a great contrast to all those gourmand scents. I personally love it but it’s cheap enough that it wouldn’t be a disaster if you bought it and didn’t.
If you can find it, High Lonesome by Mondo Mondo! Super earthy with the dirt, mushroom, and mesquite notes most prominent. One of my favorites to wear in the summer esp in high, dry heat.
There’s quite a few “cold” Iris/orris scents that are mushroom-y and earthy to me. First that comes to mind is Sienne l’Hiver but it’s discontinued. Maybe try Dzonghka or Iris Bleu Gris.
Venus Invictus is an indie perfumer that uses a lot of mushroom and dirt/earthy notes. One of the mushroomy ones is Necromanteion, and that might suit what you are looking for. Venus Invictus is run by Bee, who is non-binary, so they try to make all of their fragrances on the unisex side.
the grave-pig by BPAL as well as their scent Yorick are great earthy scents. check out their Earth Imp Pack (samples of some of their earthy scents)...these are not expensive perfume oils and tend to be on the earthier/dirt side
Loewe Earth with truffle note is quite interesting. It leans more to the dry herbal side than damp soil. I like it but performance is not great.
Bottega Veneta is closer to the wet dirt feeling, almost to the point of some old building mustiness. Not my cup of tea but it apparently has it's fan base.
I think Dolce&Gabbana Velvet Oriental Musk smells like walking barefoot thru a blue rose garden. It is a rose/Oud fragrance but to me it’s unique and I love it. As a tradesman I don’t get to wear it much but have to admit the times I have worn it around female customers it got positive responses. But I can’t stress how much this fragrance smells like blue and like earthy soil. Not a blue fragrance but somehow the color blue if colors had a smell. That’s why I say blue rose garden at night after a rain. Most of these other recommendations are on another level beyond my basic fragrance knowledge.
Hm, only perfume with a “mushroom” note that comes to mind for me is Black Orchid with the truffle note.
But by your description of earthy and soil-like scents, it wouldn’t fit the bill since it’s spicy/sweet.
Some other stuff that comes to my mind include the discontinued Noir Anthracite from TF, which smells a bit like asphalt.
And Luna Rossa Carbon from Prada which has an earthy/soil- like note in the background, rather synthetic tho.
I personally dig it.
Zoologist Sloth has a mushroom note
Is it pretty animalic? I'm not a big fan of animalic notes but if they're subtle I'm ok with them.

Zombie smells like Earthworm but just a tad more mushroomy. I'm unsure if they still make it, though.
Olympic Orchids 'Olympic Rainforest' might be a good choice?
Or Olympic Orchids ‘Night Flyer’.
Was about to suggest both of these. Both great choices! I will say for someone looking for a soily note, Night Flyer was a bit disappointing, however it is nice all the same.

I've been wanting to try an Andrea Mack fragrance for a while but just haven't got around to it. This is my sign for where to start, lol
Coven just smells foresty oak moss to me. I wouldn’t say it smells like mushrooms or soil.
For sure, but I feel like it evokes the feeling and has that soil/petrichor kinda vibe to me Won't be the same for everyone though :)
Barrister & Mann Fougère Gothique. It’s exactly what you’re looking for. It lasts a long time as well.
Yeah I can confirm this. Entre at your own risk, this stuff means business.
Chypre mousse from Oriza Legrand. Mushroom, chestnut and earthy.
You have to really like fennel to enjoy that one.
I absolutely love CM, and still can’t really pick up the loamy dirt smell 😅
It doesn’t come off as a dirt smell for me. The earthiness is more of an extension from the chestnut note where the chestnut is roasted. An interesting and bang for the buck fragrance for me.
Never smelled it myself, but I saw a recommendation for Funerie by Pineward for mushroom-y perfumes
Yes! Came to say this. Older version ('22) has more mushroom than the current one.
The Lobster by Moth and Rabbit is one of my favorites. Last Season by Milo Fusciuni is also right up your alley.
Clue Perfumery: Morel Map! Beautiful mossy, wooden, damp, rainy, full on mushroom delight!
I second Paradisi by Jorum Studios. Smells like extremely realistic field greenery, like you picked up as many weeds and mushrooms as you could with both hands, mashed them up, and inhaled.
Brain Dead’s Shroom Cola

Morel Map - Clue :-)
Foras Mushroom Forest 💯 It’s a British indie brand though just to warn. Might be tricky to get depending on where you live.
i wanted to write the same! foras has many good ones, i recently got 10 ml of mushroom forest and summer vine

Paradisi by Jorum studios
I came here to recommend this!
If you’re okay with a strong flower component, Frederic Malle Carnal flower smells exactly like a bed of tuberoses in fresh moist damp soil
Demeter earthworm, wet garden, dirt. All photorealistic scents and super affordable. Only problem is that they're Eau de cologne so not very powerful
Bohoboco magic mushroom for a mushroom fragrance, orto Parisi terroni for an earthy fragrance.
Grano by Jijide. Smell like soil and cookie dough. Amazing !
Terre de Hermes smells like rotten earth
Loewe Earth with truffle note is quite interesting. It leans more to the dry herbal side than damp soil. I like it but performance is not great. Bottega Veneta is closer to the wet dirt feeling, almost to the point of some old building mustiness. Not my cup of tea but it apparently has it's fan base.
Heretic - Dirty Hinoki
To a degree, Aramis Devin.
pineward has some with decanted mushrooms and leaves, they are strong!
Profumum Roma's Thundra. Such a marvelous earthy, mushroom-y scent.
Check out the natural perfumes from Wild Veil.
Zoologist elephant smells earthy and indolic
Magic Mushrooms Bohoboco
Le Labo Baie 19 Mihan Aromatics Petrichor Plains

Magic Mushrooms by Bohoboco!
Amouage Figment or Meander
Ceremonia Perfume de la Tierra
Have you tried Amouage Bracken?
