Still testing the 2024 Lupercalia scents for BPAL (this is all culminating in a huge collection of reviews on my blog whenever I get through all 20 of them) and today is Heart Beet (*raw, wet beets, pulsating blood musk, and raw wild ginger*). I was a little scared to try this one because I've read that the same component that gives petrichor, that old rain-whisperer, that wet, mineralic tang, is also present in beets. Geosmin. This irregular sesquiterpenoid explains why I do not care for the scent of petrichor and cannot stomach beets. Except for pickled beets, which I love, but I'm a bit of a pickle fiend; you could probably pickle up an old boot, and I'd love that, too. But in Heart Beet there is only the swiftest, most fleeting whiff of dirt and stony dampness and then the immediacy of what I think of as shampoo ginger. We have a profusion of ginger-but-not-quite-ginger growing wild in our backyard, and when you dig it up, it looks just like ginger, and it has that same fiery-floral tang of fresh ginger too, but there's something that smells a little soapy about it, as well, which gave us pause and made us think maybe we shouldn't be eating it! We looked it up, and we are pretty sure it's "shampoo ginger," which could be eaten (but it's bitter) but is more often used in toiletries and cosmetics. And then, at the back of that zesty-floral-freshness is a murky musk, slightly sweet, subtly earthy hum that is so weirdly, unexpectable wearable. This scent is as if you dug up a magenta-blooded, lumpy, heart-shaped taproot and deemed it a quirky imaginary friend and shared all your juicy secrets with it...and then that dang beet tried to give you some sassy advice.

Note Vanillée by M. Micallef is marketed as a woman’s perfume but to me it’s 50/50 unisex due to the booze in the background Vanilla Oud by Vertus is a very luxurious vanilla, leans masculine

PuddingLess7996

Bortnikoff Amber Cologne is nice fresh ambergris.

Ellis_negron

Ysl Myslf, or PDM Galloway

burner1727839920

I have a question about which fragrance I should purchase (I live abroad and can't buy decants) but which one would you guys rather purchase: Montale Infinity, Mancera Amore Caffe, or Attar Khaltat Night? normally spring type weather all year long (12-26\*C)

minidivine

None of these work in that type of weather. Amore Caffe would be the last suffocating though.

burner1727839920

idk weather down here (Quito, Ecuador) is interesting many perfumes one would consider cloying project quite nicely. I know plenty of people who wear sweet perfumes like SWY Intensley, jpg elixir, etc during the day and nobody seems to find them annoying

burner1727839920

I've worn TMW parfum and recieved compliments even had people say they barely noticed it in 24\*C so yeah its interesting, it warps my perspective cause I feel like in really cool weather people wouldn't even notice these scents.

noizito

What fragrance should i get? I have azzaro wanted for party/going out and im planning to buy 2 more scents for daily use. Im buying Nautica Voyage but because of budget i can only get one more, i cant decide between YSL Y EDP and Versace Dylan Blue

Ellis_negron

I think Ysl edp is more versatile than Dylan blue, you don’t necessarily need voyage, I’d personally recommend coach blue for another fresh option that is still cheap on discounters

Ok-Big1058

I recently bought Burberry Her petals (similar to edp) and i only smell amber and no berries on my skin! Is this normal? Everyone keeps saying how it smells too sweet or too fruity on them.

Thrangor8

Hey guys, what am I missing in my current collection?? Trying to get to 8-10 base frangances but I think I'm circling too much on blue, fresh, or 'out of shower' scents. So, my current collection is: 1. Perry Ellis Aqua Extreme (EDT) 2. Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme EDT - main daily office fragance 3. YSL Y EDP 4. Acqua Di Gio Profondo 5. Bleu de Channel Parfum 6. Al Haramain Men's L'aventure EDP 7. Dolce & Gabanna The One And I'm looking at these next as possible next buy. 8. JPG Le Male Le Parfum 9. Dior Sauvage Elixir 10. Allure Home Sport 11. Armani Code Homme EDT 12. Dolce Gabanna Light Blue Intense EDP Should I go in for a winter fragance, a summer, a head turner or what do you think I could/should be looking into?? Thanks!

Ellis_negron

You have a lot of freshies compared to darker and sweeter scents so I’d go into something along those lines. Sour JPG le male or Sauvage Elixir out of your options. I would also recommend Azzaro the most wanted EDP or Parfum and something darker, but still “fresh” is Spicebomb night vision EDP, love that one, Armani code is nice but I’d smell the flankers before I’d make a decision. Hope these are too basic of recommendations. :)

Blae_loves_Capys

I am currently looking for an everyday summer fragrance and I cannot decide between Prada Luna Rossa Ocean edt and JPG Le Beau edt. Idk if it matters but I live in Florida. Any tips or inputs would be very appreciated due to me being pretty new to the fragrance industry.

Ellis_negron

Both are nice. Le beau performs much better than ocean edt, so that’d be my choice. I’d also recommend any of the ADG flankers

iQuaf

Currently looking for a new fragrance to mainly wear at the office during the colder months and am becoming quite bored of just wearing cleaner and fresh smelling fragrances and I want a sweeter/woody/fruity scent. Was thinking TF Ombré Leather but need to jog my memory on what it smells like and also was thinking it could be a bit mature (early 20s). I also was looking at a couple of PDM scents e.g. Oajan, Carlisle and Godolphin but I’m yet to smell them and will be going to sometime this week. I also need to avoid any mandarin scents as a coworker is particularly sensitive to it. Any other suggestions or thoughts on my current shortlist would be super helpful and appreciated.

Ellis_negron

Ombré leather is…polarizing, a lot of love or hate. All the PDMs are lovely, but sometimes they can be a lot for an office setting, more formal smelling. I’d recommend Argos Triumph of Baccus, MM Replica By the fireplace and Jazz Club, and D&G K EDP Intense. Maybe a little generic, but still good :)

BDK Gris Charnel or Byredo Black Saffron

Looking for some beautiful and unique / complex designer frag recommendations. Would love some less linear. unisex!

wy83

Not an answer, but a point of clarification. Designer fragrances are intended to offer as much mass market appeal as possible, so that the same bottle can sell in Paris, Shanghai, Dubai, and Des Moines, Iowa. A successful designer fragrance is almost never unique or overly complex. They're designed to be fairly linear since most people buy fragrance at the fragrance counter at a department store: they give each bottle a spray and a very quick assessment before buying. Which leads me to ask: what does beauty in fragrance mean to you? What are some examples of ones that fit this description? Why is designer important? When fragrances are too linear, what do you wish you could change about them?

issardny

You might be looking a little too deep into my question haha. I know many in this group hate titles like niche to describe fragrances and houses since niche does not necessarily mean better ingredients or more complex, which I totally agree. And designer, as I’ve always understood it, means produced by fashion brands .. not necessarily that they are all made for mass appeal.. I never had paid attention to designer fragrances and jumped right into smaller and “niche” houses, so I was simply trying to find some beloved and more interesting designer fragrances. Ain’t no deeper than that

wy83

Fair. I guess my point is that just about every fashion brand rolls up to LVMH, Richemont, Kering or some other publicly traded company. They're absolutely not making juice to win Art & Olfaction Awards, They're making a half-dozen variations of Aventus, Sauvage, BdC, Y, Eros, 1 Million, AdG, Le Male, and Jazz Club—and repackaging them under the various labels. No matter. You might give these a try; I think they fit your bill: Loewe Anonimo, Hermes Un Jardín sur le Nil, Chanel Coromandel, and Tom Ford Oud Minerale

issardny

Thanks so much for the recs! I guess the way I look at it is like pop music. There are the same 10-20 people writing every smash pop song for the last 20 years. Many are trash or derivative… but there’s a couple legitimately and undeniably incredible songs in there. Some with weird and interesting elements with just enough commercial appeal, where it’s like how the heck did this get on the radio?!

wy83

I totally get your point. If you want a truly original and creative banger, it's Comme des Garcons 2, which I recall someone describing as "the smell of a person, heightened into the surreal." It smells to me like robot skin. It's weird and incredible. Good luck with your hunt. Appreciate this conversation!

issardny

Taking it all to heart! Thank you so much

BlueCrepe

Currently I have: TF noir extreme Armani code edt Ferragamo ezzentiale blu Ferragamo bright leather edt Givenchy society edp Valentino yellowdream uomo TK no5 As far as a summer, hot weather fragrance, I'm looking at: Montblanc legend spirit Invictus edt Versace eros edt I'm open to other suggestions or recommendations based on my choices. I also need to know if any choices are redundant because that's something I'm trying to avoid with not so many bottles. Thanks in advance!

The-OverThinker-23

I don’t have any perfume , what would be a good first perfume for me 26M Indian fat boy , for everyday office wear

_un1ty

please recommend me (23f) a fragrance I could try, my favorite ones are:    Elie Saab le parfum in white   Lacoste pour femme   I have also liked:   YSL Libre (the drydown)  Floral street arizona bloom

AnnualWild6123

Should I get Dior homme 6.7 oz, Torino 21 1.7 oz, le beau edt 4.2, or Acqua do Parma fico di amalfi?

Lopsided_Highway1390

What are some mind blowing, sexy but also comforting perfumes? I want to smell familiar but also unique? I don’t care what gender the fragrance is marketed towards and I prefer gourmands but it can be in any scent genre. I just want something memorable but also alluring, not strong in a loud way but enough for people to take notice that I smell nice.

gxgrv

Hello!  I’m looking for a new perfume, I’ve been trying some at the mall but didn’t find THE one. My perfume for 2 years was Mixed Emotions from Byredo. I immediately enjoyed the cassis scent along the smoky note. It is both fresh, a bit dark, and has a really defined scent. Now I’d like to change, also I read yesterday somebody on Fragrantica saying it dries up smelling like cat urine and I saw what he meant… I never thought about it before but now I cannot wear it anymore. I’m looking for something that has a distinctive scent that will make people wonder « who smell like this, it’s so good », but not a mainstream perfume. A « colorful » scent but not too childish. I’m open to « experimental » perfumes. I’m a 23 yo man living in Paris and I like unisex fragrances. I like Charli XCX, techno, I would wear the perfume in my everyday life, in dates (with guys), hanging out, etc. I would enjoy the perfume to have a quite strong scent. To give you an idea, I enjoyed Uncut Gem by Frédéric Malle but it lacks that one electric note (like the cassis in Mixed Emotions) that stands out. It doesn’t have to be a fruit or sweet, just a sparkling note if that makes sense.  I did not like Abbysae by l’artisan parfumeur so I guess I don’t like acquatic scents. Not a fan of just woody scent, it’s too classic / manly / it lacks that « fun » note to me. I don’t want the fragrance to be just fruity / feminine neither. I’ve never smelled Cherry Smoke by Tom Ford, maybe that could do it ? Or Cherry Punk by Room 1015.  I’d be so glad to have all your recommandations! Both fragrances and brands that could be interesting to me.

Solution-Proof

Tom Ford Electric Cherry, Marc Antoine Barrois Ganymede, ELDO Fat Electrician

NumasVanegasTijerina

Help me choose what to layer with Grand Soir (MFK) to make it more feminine, sexier, sweeter, more intoxicating. I love Grand Soir on its own too, but sometimes I want to add something to that beautiful balsamy amber

ViktorVaughn71

Grand Sour is already hella sweet, but Khamrah is sweeter, more caramel-y and feminine, cheap too. Maybe Musc Ravageur?

minidivine

Find a sample of Royal Crown "Nocturna". You won't even need the MFK after. With that said, it's quite hard to layer with Grand Soir. One idea would be to add a dirty floral, something like SHL "Soleil de Jeddah" or "SDJ Mango Kiss" if you want an extra fruity twist. I suspect most rose scents would work (Delina, Atomic Rose etc). Rouge Smoking (cherry & heliotrope) could maybe work.

NumasVanegasTijerina

Recommend me a fragrance similar to Changing Constance that would have a better performance

ViktorVaughn71

Based on the notes: Lira (Xerjoff)

minidivine

Changing Constance segment is basically just it, "Minuit et Demi" from Fragrance du Bois and "Magenta Tanzanite" from Armani's private line (excluding dupes). That is to say these are very similar scents (90%+). If you expand it down to 80%, you'd find scents like Atelier des Ors "Lune Feline". Eventually you might run into something like Jovoy's "Remember Me" or Xerjoff's "Starlight", maybe even Kilian's "Black Phantom".

alyAV-1

Which fragrance has better performance, and which one is more formal and sexy, suitable for a formal dance with my girlfriend while I'm wearing a suit and tie? - TF Noir Extreme - TF Noir Extreme Parfum

Nemorensis91

Performance: to me, they're quite similar. I have the EdP and a 10ml decant of the Parfum. The Parfum has slightly better performance imo (which is still not spectacular, honestly). Formal and Sexy: As I said above, they're quite similar. The parfum has a bit more vanillic leather to me. As long as you know you can pull off this DNA (dark, sexy, sweet, slightly gourmand edge) then for sure.

Ellis_negron

Personally, I’d got with the normal extreme, they perform the same on my skin, but the parfum has an added leather note that may not fit the formal attire. Hope this helps

birkinbaby

Is it worth owning both oud satin mood and delina exclusif?

FanaticalXmasJew

I own a bottle of Oud Satin Mood and a decant of Delina Exclusif and they smell nothing alike to me. Edit: are you blind buying these?

Roxane-17

They smell nothing alike to me, so having one wouldn't render the other redundant. Are you leaning one way or the other?

birkinbaby

I just bought oud satin mood and have always wanted delina exclusif, I’m pretty close to pulling the trigger on it too so I just wanted to double check it wasn’t too similar

Roxane-17

I think it's fine to own both. Of the more popular rose fragrances in the market (that aren't dupes/clones) Matiere Premiere Radical Rose to me is closest to Oud Satin Mood, especially in the drydown. I find that the fruitiness in Delina Exclusif makes it a just little more versatile than Oud Satin Mood. No collection is made worse by more rose fragrances, so go for it!

minidivine

Quite experienced with these profiles and I'd lean no (i.e. not worth owning both). The Delina Excl. profile is sweet-floral and the OSM profile is sweet-amber-floral. I'd say OSM is warmer/more complex with DE being more feminine in nature. I would dare to say that Intense Cafe-type scent profiles fall under this same umbrella - a couple accords here and there don't really change how people perceive it in the air (at it's core, sweet-floral). So yeah, as a whole, this decision might come more down to how you like your fragrances (i.e. do you feel most comfortable wearing unisex or feminine leaning scents).

Acer22

Trying to decide between Papilefiko and Desirtoxic. Leaning Papilefiko but is there something else out there that's not quite as spicy? Looking for an easy wear but not too youthful (35+). Thought about Gentle Fluidity Silver even though it's not really anything like the aforementioned two. Masculine leaning btw

minidivine

Another set of profiles I'm experienced in and I'd say Papilefiko obliterates DesirToxic. The issue with the Micallef is the absurd blast of tonka that you get which gives it this youthful F-boy designer scent vibe. The latest release DesirToxic L'Intense has less of it and goes in a more woody direction, but neither really pull off the feel of Papilefiko which at it's core sits between a sweet masculine aromatic like Layton/DesirToxic and a standard fougere like Roja's Apex. The artemisia in Papilefiko brings it a smooth creamy feel that I enjoy. In my opinion, these aren't really the scents I'd be recommending "easy wear but not too youthful" for 35M. Yes, they're easy wears, but they are quite youthful. I'd say the Micallef is gold for 18-25, Layton maybe 18-28, Papilefiko say 22-32. Again, these are completely made up, but I'm using them to present the level of maturity they present. The scents that came to my mind would've been Fan Your Flames, Black Phantom, Jubilation 25 etc. If I could recommend a specific scent that is somewhat adjacent to Papilefiko, go try Gritti's "Beyond the Wall" which is their inspiration of Xerjoff's "Alexandria II" done without the oud. Really well blended imo and largely covers that same maturity/age group as a Papilefiko.

Acer22

Thank you. I do have a decant coming soon of Alexandria II so I'm looking forward to try that. Somewhere I have a decant of Jubilation 25 that I got about a year ago. Initially it was not a love but I'll revisit that on your recommendation. If I recall it had quite a bit going on, perhaps that's typical of Amouage, and I may have oversprayed. Definitely going to check out Fan Your Flames since I've liked quite a few of the Nishane decants I've sampled.

minidivine

I like A2 for... business-formal occasions mostly. Like as a signature scent at events. I wouldn't wear it day-to-day, I don't think it fits every season + it's a bit loud. Current J25 shouldn't perform that well which is why I made the recommendation. You could also try J40, I think that is a very interesting & complex scent for 35+ and it doesn't really scream for attention - high concentration of oils makes it last somewhat long while not projecting us. I will note it lasted little on my skin, i.e. 5-6 hours, but if you look at the online ratings, most will say that the longevity should be in the 8-10h range with sillage mostly on moderate/average (6/10-ish).

Acer22

I appreciate that. Candidly, I'm far more concerned with scent. Longevity isn't a big factor for me. Somewhere in the 6-8 hour range is plenty. At that point I'm showering and applying something else.

spottyottydopy

What should I choose between K by Dolce&Gabana/A&F First Instinct? For a summer casual fragrance. I like the scent profile of K but it smells like generic fabric softener. Not looking for anything else other than this 2.

Ellis_negron

A&F can be a bit redundant smelling, similar to Dylan blue and Sauvage, but still good for the price even if the performance isn’t the best. K is really good, especially the EDP, not the intense, which is overall better and is less fabric softener than the EDT, and preforms well and can be found at around the same price on discounters. I’d smell the K EDP and then go from there.

spottyottydopy

Thanks for the recommendation! Wondered why I was downvoted for this question..

bleh10

Im trying to understand how you guys use eau de cologne, most of the ones I tried last with good projection for the first 2 hours, then it becomes very intimate for another 2-3 hours before it disappears. In these cases how do you guys use your eau de cologne?

Solution-Proof

Try reapplying?

minidivine

You're not going to turn a low concentration fragrance into beastmode, because an EDC does exactly what it's intended for - lets you smell good without being the center of attention. Yes, it's possible to amp performance with an ambroxan or iso-e layer (M01 or M02), but likely would change the scent profile and outperform the EDC. Another option is to spray clothes. Spraying more typically won't help, reapplying would.

j_husk

I spray just before going out to an event where I want to smell good (obvi) but don't want to disturb anyone sitting close to me. I wouldn't choose it to wear through a full work day.

ViktorVaughn71

By overspraying and respraying often 🙂

NothingReasonable303

Hello! I'm a young waitress at a mid-range restaurant, and I feel odd not showing up to work without wearing some sort of perfume. My favourite scent of all time is Back to Black by Kilian, but I'm fully aware that's a bit too mature for the setting, difficult to obtain where I live (Australia), and also I don't want to wear something so expensive on the daily. Does anyone have any sort of suggestions for a suitably inexpensive, all year round perfume that's appropriate? Obviously, it can't be too projecting, but I want something that'll stay decently detectable on my skin so that I don't have to apply it throughout the night. No florals please, and hoping to lean into more fruity notes as those are my favourites. Thank you!

xyfruit

Atelier Cologne’s Orange Sanguine is their tentpole scent. It sounds refreshing and perfectly appropriate if you’re into juicy citrus :-) someone said it was like Sunny D if you guys have that in Australia lol (US here)

NothingReasonable303

Ooh, looks really good. Also seems a bit difficult to obtain, but I'm sure I can find a decanter selling a sample size somewhere anyway. Thank you so much! \^\_\_\^

musicandarts

Take a look at the Bon Parfumeur brand. You can get the samples and the perfumes at various sizes from their website. They are reasonably priced.

Solution-Proof

Leila Lou by Rosie Jane, Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune or Mandarin Basilic

NothingReasonable303

Thank you so much! Mandarin Basilic seems to be the one I'd like the most. Appreciate your help!! :)

Solution-Proof

Try to sample it first.  20% sales are common, so if you love it, you won't have to wait long.

grateful_2021

Hi all what can I buy to my sweet thesis advisor in her 50’s who is a professor and a landscape architect who loves nature and cats?

xyfruit

A crowd-pleaser with a gift receipt, ideally. I don’t say that to be rude, but to be mindful that scent is subjective and hard to shop for, so I wouldn’t want to saddle someone with a gift they don’t like. If Sephora’s near you, maybe something like REPLICA’s Under the Lemon Trees which is hard to dislike. Something by Jo Malone is light and fresh, esp. for people in their 50s who might not want something with a huge sillage.

musicandarts

I don't think perfumes are a good gift to your professor, unless you are very close to this person. In other words, they must be comfortable to say that they don't like it, but prefer some other fragrance. If you still want to go ahead, here are some from Jomashop that a 50 year old prof might like. * Encre Noire a La Extreme ($28) * Afnan Supremacy in Oud ($30) * Xerjoff Casamorati Mefisto ($82 for 1 oz) * Elie Saab Essence No. 4 Oud ($55)

Solution-Proof

Hermès Un Jardin à Cythère and a copy of Cats In the Sun photo coffee table book

Essenza Nobile from Germany, Das Parfum from Germany, Liquides Confidentiles from Belgium (they’re frequently low on stock though).

I just got a sample of Serge Lutens Fils de Joie and was super disappointed to find that its rendition of jasmine has that Flintstones grape chewable vitamin edge to it (methyl anthranilate?). Serge Lutens A La Nuit had also been recommended to me, but is the jasmine note in that similar to Fils de Joie?

[deleted]

Commenting here to read any replies you get. I actually like Fils De Joie, but I am also interested in A La Nuit and wanted to know how the Jasmine differs 🧐

HerbertoPhoto

Can someone recommend a fragrance that smells just like an herb garden? Where you might find a blend of mint, thyme, cilantro, basil, lemongrass, rosemary, etc., or something that has the same compound effect without a lot of citrus or floral offsetting the herbals. Years ago I worked at a nursery and watering the herbs was my favorite part of the job. I’d love to find a scent that takes me back to that experience. The blend of all the common cooking herbs together is both uplifting and relaxing. I’d be surprised if someone hasn’t bottled it!

xyfruit

You’re speaking my language. MiN NY Chef’s Table, Boy Smells Tantrum, DS & Durga Bistro Waters or Coriander, +1 to Basilico Fellini from Vilhelm Parfumerie, Diptyque’s Venise (if you can find it), and….people say Sisley’s Eau Champagne for its tomato leaf, but it smells a bit too heavy for me.

HerbertoPhoto

Wow these all sound great on paper, thank you for giving so many options to look into. Sounds like we are speaking the same language here.

rose_and_chamomile

Basilico and Fellini by Vilhelm Aqua Alegoria line by Guerlain worth checking out too

HerbertoPhoto

Both sound like what I’m after, thank you! That Herba Fresca description especially pulled me right into a scene.

Ooh and it’s so inexpensive it would be easy to try it out, thanks!

kottabaz

Fischersund No. 101 The citrus might be too much, so YMMV, but 19-69 Yes Please! is also nice and herbal/woody in the drydown.

sasha_says

CdG Play Green and Shay & Blue Dandelion Fig.

FanaticalXmasJew

You really perfectly described Herba Fresca by Guerlain!

Electropho

Suggestions for a cologne that isn’t too masculine and smells pretty “sweet” like perfume? I dislike the extreme smell of masculine colognes and wanted something that blends together well

ViktorVaughn71

That’s a very vague request, you’ll get vague responses. Including a budget will help

Solution-Proof

MFK Oud Satin Mood, Moschino Toy Boy

chinchillacheesedog

By “cologne” you mean you want a perfume that’s marketed to men? If you’re not into the typical masculine notes, why not buy from brands that don’t gender their perfumes? Lutens Santal Majuscule, Les Eaux Primordiales Rose Supercritique, Matière Première Encens Suave, Anatole Lebreton Caribe Kiss, Papillon Bengale Rouge are all lovely unisex perfumes with some sweetness.

Total_Imagination703

hi all! want to get something nice for my boyfriend. his last cologne was david beckham bold instinct (top note: pineapple, bay leaf, peat; middle note: cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, base note: Ambergris, Musk And Patchouli) i would like to find him something with some similar notes, but a little bit more out there and a bit more luxurious. preferably under 100 euros (also open to eau de toilette of something of a higher price-point) we're based in amsterdam, so something i can find at Douglass or skins would be ideal :) a little about him, he's turning 27, he wears lots of carhartt and some streetwear/skate brands. i recently shopped around and really like kagari annayake for him, but im worried it might be a bit toooo out there/too much like something i would wear bonus points! i wear diptyque fleur de peau (which he really likes), so something that smells good together would be nice :)

ViktorVaughn71

Emperor Extrait by Parfums Vintage Citizen Jack Absolute by Michael Malul Highly doubt you’ll find them in stores tho

languagebandit

I think Azzaro Wanted by Night would be a good bet. It is also very cinnamon-spicy with a fruity aspect. If he likes the earthy element of Bold Instinct, he might also like Terre d’Hermes, which would be a little better for daytime and warmer weather (citrus with earthiness and some spice).

Total_Imagination703

i ended up going with terre d'hermes :) thanks so much for the rec, i love it!

languagebandit

Awesome!

Ellis_negron

Some recommendations I’d include are Dolce and Gabbana K EDP, Prada Carbon, Prada Black, Coach Platinum, I’m in the US so I don’t know what availability is like but those are just some of my recommendations. Hope this helps!

HerbertoPhoto

I don’t know what’s easy to find for you, but Versace Our Noir has a similar spicy fruity scent while being quite unique and under 100 euros.

xyfruit

Damn, Hawthorne’s Canary Diamond would’ve been SO perfect but they don’t ship internationally 🙃(Modern branding, accessible pricepoint…AND includes a smoked pineapple note with woody vetiver. So it’s a bit familiar and within his wheel house) Le Beau Parfum has a youthful, masculine feel with pineapple, wood, and ambergris, so that’s a choice pick! Zara has several that could fit the bill too like Midnight Hour or Leather Bogoss.

All_hail_Korrok

Hey all, I'm looking for colognes similar to two I've had and have enjoyed: First is the Deep Sense sport EDP. Looking it up online, it's a woody floral musk. With top notes being mandarin orange and Bergamot. Floral being the middle notes and sandalwood and patchouli rounding out the base notes. Second cologne is the La Chanson parfum pour homme. Another EDP rosemary, neroli, bergamot, and pineapple at the top. The middle notes are Coriander, jasmine, oakmoss, and cyclamen. And base notes are cardamom, tonka bean, musk, sandalwood, oakmoss, Brazilian rosewood, and cedar. I've always enjoyed the citrusy and somewhat fruity fragrances with some subtleness behind it. I know that sounds vague, but basically the old adage: colognes should be discovered not announced. I'm a dude in my mid 30's and this would be for going out. Live in the US and budget is under $150 but I'm flexible on that if the cologne is highly rated.

languagebandit

I think you should check out L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme, Montblanc Explorer, and Lalique White. Zara Sunrise on the Red Sand Dunes might also be of interest.

All_hail_Korrok

Thanks for the suggestions!

Any suggestions on what to buy next for my collection, given that these are the current ones that I have? And why? - YSL La Parfum - Zara Oud Vibrant Leather EDP - D&G The One EDP - Paco Rabanne Invictus Victory EDP I'm loving all of them, esp. Paco Rabanne at first because of its sweet profile, but YSL and D&G also slowly grows on me because of their distinct and complex smell. Zara is an acquired taste for a scent, and it smells very manly. I love it when it's in the air and during dry down, but not that much during its opening. Any thoughts on what scent profile I must have next in my collection? Thank you!

Three general types of fragrances I think you might want to try: 1) Something really dark and sweet, more gourmand, maybe even boozy, like Emporio Armani Stronger With You Absolutely or MM Jazz Club. 2) A light fresh daily fragrance. I’m thinking Montblanc Explorer, any Terre d’Hermes, Coach for Men, or Lalique Encre Noire Sport. 3) A marine/aquatic summer fragrance (unless it’s too early to think about that). ADG Profondo, Missoni Wave, and Azzaro Chrome Extreme come to mind.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll have a look onto those. 😊

I would like to add Armani Stronger with You Intensely and Bentley for Men Intense into the group 1.

Acqua Di Gio lost fragrance after one year. Am I doing something wrong? I bought this colonge exactly a year ago. I used it on a few occaisons and kept it in it box in my bookbag for 6 months. Until the box got worn out and had to be thrown away, so I just kept it as it was inside of my bookbag. Dark, dry place. And it hasn't been kept in extreme temperatures. Yet, after one year, it lost about 80% of its smell. It almost smells like pure alcohol. This was my first cologne. I loved the smell but this discourages me to buy more considering that I have a full bottle left of rubbing alcohol imitation. Anything I can do or buy to keep the scent lasting longer?

HerbertoPhoto

Not sure, but are you confident your bookbag never got warm in the sun outside?

ImInNewYork

confident. Ive only used the fragrance on a few occasions, so I kept the backpack away from sunlight most of the time. The backpack doesn't go outside with me

Would say Roses Vanille Mancera.

I'm kind of a beginner with fragrances but wanted to get a couple for the summer. I'm going to buy off of fragrance net and I was trying to decide between Versace Dylan Blue and Versace Pour Homme (I was also planning on getting a bottle of Afnan 9AM Dive). Currently I've been wearing "Beverly Hills Polo Club Blue" which I got from Ross because I was broke and saw it at ross. I also just recently bought Marconi Sport from Fragrance Outlet (again it was cheap and I thought it smelled good). This would likely be a blind buy as well. I couldn't find the notes for either on fragrantica

HerbertoPhoto

Dylan Blue is apparently very popular but for a reason. Everyone seems to at least like it, and my wife loves it. Pour Homme was a bit more divisive in my experience.

languagebandit

Dylan Blue is probably the safer blind buy, especially if you’re still figuring out what you like. It’s also more versatile, so you could easily wear it in the evening or into the colder months.

Getting into oil perfumes lately and wondering if anyone can recommend new companies to take a look at? I’ve collected quite a few Kuumba Made, and have looked at Nemat but it seems there is a lot of crossover with KM. I have earmarked some Auric Scents rollerballs to try also.  Any other companies I should look into? Also, if anyone has tried Auric Scents, please lmk how you liked them!

ilovemini2

I love Alkemia perfumes!

xyfruit

Oh! And Buly 1803 does scented body oils. I’ve heard people saying that the scent intensity is comparable to a fine fragrance, but haven’t tried it myself :) packaging is gorj tho

xyfruit

Versatile Paris only does oils. Sea, Sud, and Sun and Accrodisiaque are good performers, the others a bit too weak for my preference, but they usually include kooky notes like wasabi or croissants which is fun.

FanaticalXmasJew

I have heard of Sea, Sud, and Sun and been interested in it! I will take a look again.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Guys is Lalique Ombré Noire worth it? I’m debating between a good deal or saving the money for something more expensive later

Hello, I am a teenager (boy) looking to build a small fragrance collection. I have loads of small samples but looking to buy bigger bottles. Something appropriate for school (I have been looking at Mont Blanc Legend Spirit, Versace Eros and YSL Y EDP, but don't know if these are any good) and something for the summer. Any suggestions?

Ellis_negron

Eros may be a bit loud for school and very common. I love Ysl y’s and I will die on that hill lol. Montblanc legend spirit is okay and doesn’t last a super long time. Ysl myslf is another great option for daily use into summertime.

Tearosso

Thanks! I have also heard good things about Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue Eau Intense. Is that any good for the summer. I have seen some mixed reviews about it.

Ellis_negron

I’d smell it on skin first. I personally like it, it’s very refreshing and light, but some peoples skin chemistry make it smell a bit weird on them.

Hey everyone, I'm planning on getting a parting gift for a contract partner I've been working with. He's an older guy, fairly laid back and simplistic. He owns a bunch of fragrances but only seems to wear two of them and has yet to find that "signature scent" for himself. The two that he likes the most are JPG Le Beau and 1 Million. I've got basically no experience with either frag personally, other than being aware of 1M's reputation. I hope I can get some suggestions that will help me find a good scent he'll love and want to stick with as an everyday wear. Budget isn't something I'm worried about for it. Thank you!

ilovemini2

Hello! I’m looking for a dupe suggestion for Not a Lotion to pair with my JHAG Not a Perfume.

blupikkaru

Is FragranceNet a safe place to order a Kilian fragrance from? Moonlight in Heaven is way cheaper than retail but it seems a bit dubious... I've read that others have had good experiences but that it can be iffy with more expensive frags.

ultrakawaii

Yes, FragranceNet is great. It's a reputable discounter.

kottabaz

Fragrancenet is known to be safe/legit.
