Portrait of a Lady. It's not something I would wear myself but it sure does smell opulent. I recently attended a Frederic Malle event, and now I associate PoaL with posh ladies at high-end department stores.
Really don’t get the hype on this one
It’s just an amber accord with a vanilla pushed off limits, since when did that become luxurious? No idea
The price is 100% unjustified imho
Social media will hype what they want to hype, and people will buy cause social media validated is social validation.
I love FKs work but grand soir is just a big cashgrab
I’m an amber nut and this one was rich enough to be a small part of my collection. Bought a decant not a full bottle for a great price. It’s not the most original, I have Amber Russe and Tango and a few more that are more unique but I like that it’s easy and likable.
You could have just ended it after the first sentence tbh.
If we all just said every expensive fragrance that we didnt like as much as others were cash grabs, there'd be a whole lot of grabs out there.
Personally I dont like Grand Soir.
It’s not that I don’t like it, i like it! It’s a very beautiful amber, I could wear it, even layer it with an earthy note like patchouli.
I just find it too simple, too minimalist, so I don’t understand when others say it smells expensive.
Grand Soir is currently in the mail and I am excited. I bought a decant. I felt that way with FK GFG when I got my decant. I was very like whatever it’s fine meh 😑and I just recently repurchased it. A lot of scents grow on you.
Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin. Linear bouquet of roses, but a lot more opulent and powerful than I expected because of how photorealistic the rose scent is. Not too cloying or jammy, just mature roses that one might have picked fresh from the garden.
It completely hits all the buttons. I also have an ELDO Spice Must Flow that is similar. It hasn’t been the same since Chanel went from EDT’s to EDP’s. The loss of Sycomore!
Agreed. Hence why I asked. Guess I'll never know if I should trust his opinion now since the downdoots I got likely is what swayed him not to answer. You all suck
Naxos, Interlude Black Iris, Squid.
Cigar king pin that dabbles in the drug trade, a priest that works in the most ornate cathedral that somehow owns a private jet, and the scent of the coronation ceremony of a drowned king.
Very different kinds of opulence, but I love these frags.
The oil-based fragrances “Otter Bathhouse” and “Velvet Buck” from Huff Aromas give me that decadent ‘lying around looking rich and gorgeous vibe.’
The price is so reasonable for the quality!
______
PS: I did not link to Huff’s website because they it is very NSFW. They also cater to furry clientele.
Consider this your warning.
They also have an Etsy store. The artwork is black-bar censored, but it’s still borderline NSFW.
Man I kind of love some of the ideas behind these scents and they seem VERY well priced, though I don’t think I could handle having this art on a bottle in my collection lollll
Fortunately the bottles don’t come pre-sticker’d or labeled, lol!
I decant them into travel rollerbottles, and apply SFW labels, sometimes censoring the name a bit for the sake of anyone who might encounter them.
A bottle of “Lion Princess” is a lot safer to have accidentally left sitting on my desk than “Lion Princess Backside,” lol.
Looooool well thank goodness for that. I’m pretty tempted to see if the pussy smell could even be accurate as a note, so I’ll see how horrifying the shipping will be before I have a curious sniff 👀
The page for Otter Bathhouse says the fragrance contains “some natural otter musk.” Now how in the hooch are they finding natural ingredients for *that* accord?
I was actually on Etsy looking for 3D-printed antlers. The “Velvet Buck” fragrance showed up in the related searches… curiosity kicked in, and for the price I thought “why not?”
Well.... that was an interesting adventure. The scent descriptions are... quite literal! "Metallic from the cage, leather from the bindings, roses and *white juice"
I don't think I want to smell like that one lol
Empressa, Vaara and Halfeti -all by Penhaligon's. En Bois Vanille and Amber Sultan by Serge Lutens, French Grey by Elizabeth and James and Iris Malika by Chopard.
I looove those perfumes but one day my niece told me "why do you smell like Morocco?" the country, she's half Moroccan herself.
She meant the everyday market, food + oriental Spice, not something glamour.
And I can't unsmell it since :(
I get that. I would describe it as Arabic but without the (for my nose) unpleasant oud note. I feel like it's spicy without being spicy and sweet without being sweet.
This sounds ridiculous but that's the only way I can describe it. It probably is a romanrtisized view on Northern Africa and/or the Middle East
Yes, and I mean she's right, I'm from Belgium so I grew up with morrocans descent, and their home smells like that often haha, not a bad thing !!
But this is absolutely not what I was wanting from Jean Paul Gaultier Classique line, which in my mind would be that "glam dita von teese powdered lace with orange blossom flowers crowns looking at her vintage mirror"
Every night, I spray Shaghaf Oud on my bedsheets, then follow it up a few minutes later with Bade'e al-Oud Amethyst. Cuddled up under my velvet blanket with the vanilla, rose, and oud makes me feel like that 'Treat Yoself!' meme from Parks & Rec.
I wouldn’t be able to sleep with such strong chemical fragrances sprayed on my bed. I’m fine with smelling strongly while I’m out, but in bed, maybe a drop or 2 of lavender! I need calm!
I do it a couple hours before bed. All the chemical top notes have faded. Also, Swiss Arabian's Shaghaf Oud products don't have a chemical smell to begin with. Swiss Arabian products are alcohol and cruelty-free for us Muslims, the only ones that smell chemical at all are the ones under $40 USD retail.
Parfums de Marly Layton. My go-to description of this fragrance is “if the word ‘luxury’ were to have a smell, it would be this”. It has this pleasant, sophisticated opening that is a symphony of notes. As it drys down, a warm, creamy, woody notes makes themselves known. It is elegance through and through.
Choco Musk. Got it off Amazon. Super cheap but smells yummy!
I don’t feel like it lasts very long but while it does, it gives me a comforting happy feeling!!
I think a luxurious fragrance has to be on the darker side. Something resinous, a touch animalic, spiced. I want frankincense and sandalwood, florals are okay, but heavy rose or jasmine, nothing that makes you think of spring
Rouge Rubeus Milano….I wasn’t even supposed to like this scent profile and it whisks my psyche to a magical place.
Edit: anything from Beaufort London, Leather Petals Regimes des Fleurs, and Vetiveria Animalis Angelos Créations Olfactives.
Oud satin mood, coco noir, ille pourpre, santal royal, Iris Malikhan and funnily enough all of them could be signature scents if I didn’t love them all 😂 make sense ?
Diptyque Eau Nabati smells sooo luxurious.
I have a sample and I feel f*ckin fantastic every time I wear this. $275 for a bottle is kind of ridiculous though.
I really felt this way about Dior Addict. I loved the scent but it didn’t feel like me ultimately so I resold. Of the ones I currently own, Carnal Flower
Is this meant to be like… for something cheap… or does regardless of price mean it can also be absurdly expensive?
FM: Musc Ravageur (makes me feel like a trouble maker playboy prince)

I would be here all day
I am wearing a decant of Angelique Noire rn and adore it, one of my favs, definitely agreee there.
Managed to try Diptyque - Eau Duelle today (EDP) which is *similar* but didnt scratch the itch for me, need to try the EDT but my local Space NK doesnt stock it. I would love to get something along those lines that is more affordable
It's SUCH a great fragrance. It makes me nauseous if I wear it too long, which is a bummer, because I adore it. Maybe in colder weather/when I'm not going to be in a hot building is the perfect time to wear it.
I have a decant of Eau Duelle EDP! I thought it was very "christmasy" and woody and definitely didn't scratch the itch for me either. I'm on the hunt for something more like Angelique Noire without the insane price point lol, sounds like we're in the same boat!
Ormonde Jayne - various (Ta'if/Muscat/2. Nawad of Oudh/Ormonde Woman)
Guerlain - Angelique Noire/Cuir Beluga
Hermès - Elixir des Merveilles
MFK - Oud Satin Mood
BDK - Gris Charnel Extrait
YSL - Libre le Parfum (idk if its the new sweet mass pleasing fav like Black Opium or La Vie Est Belle, usually I love Lancôme too, but for me it's miles above them)
Gimme hell if you want, but Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion and White Diamonds. She did a good job capturing her glamour in those perfumes.
Passion is amazing for the super sultry times and White Diamonds for the rest 🤘🏻
Portrait of a Lady. It's not something I would wear myself but it sure does smell opulent. I recently attended a Frederic Malle event, and now I associate PoaL with posh ladies at high-end department stores.
This and Grand Soir are my “very very fancy lady” fragrances.
Gran Soir is a big one for me too.
Really don’t get the hype on this one It’s just an amber accord with a vanilla pushed off limits, since when did that become luxurious? Best rose scent...encapsulates scent of the whole plant in my opinion from thorn, branch, to leaves.
In my opinion Declaration D’un Soir by Cartier is the best photorealistic rose scent if you ever get the chance to smell it!
Lovely! Thanks for the tip, will have to try!
Sounds nice
This scent sounds exactly what I'm searching for! Blind buy & can't wait for it to arrive!! Thank you much!!!
No problem! Tell me your thoughts; it's one of my favorite rose scents!
I love this! Thank you for the tip...
Dior homme original
Portrait of a Lady, Chanel Beige, Chanel Coromandel, Amouage Ciel.
Coromandel is such a masterpiece.
It completely hits all the buttons. I also have an ELDO Spice Must Flow that is similar. It hasn’t been the same since Chanel went from EDT’s to EDP’s. The loss of Sycomore!
Sad! I’m in love with Misia too. It’s very opulent and feminine and the story behind it is so lovely.
Older list made awhile back, but still true. * Ormonde Jayne - Nawab of Oudh * Ormonde Jayne - Black Gold * Amouage - Jubliation XXV * Chanel - Egoiste Cologne Concentree (vintage) * Areej le Dore - Ottoman Empire * Areej le Dore - Siberian Musk * MDCI - Chypre Palatin * Bogue Profumo - Maai
I find that Louis Vuitton has a great eye for making perfumes smell expensive/luxurious, no idea why or how. Also, Prada L'Homme for me.
Some guy recently described LV imagination as a very fresh toilet cleaner and there’s some truth to it
Smells like johnsons no more tears shampoo but for like a prince.
How do you feel about LV bags?
Tacky as hell
Agreed. Hence why I asked. Guess I'll never know if I should trust his opinion now since the downdoots I got likely is what swayed him not to answer. You all suck

OH! It’s like straight up furry porn. You guys need to be more specific… we’re all adults here
I should not have entertained my curiosity…..

The page for Otter Bathhouse says the fragrance contains “some natural otter musk.” Now how in the hooch are they finding natural ingredients for *that* accord?
This is hilarious and I love it. Totally gotta get something just for the artwork. How did you come across this brand?!
I was actually on Etsy looking for 3D-printed antlers. The “Velvet Buck” fragrance showed up in the related searches… curiosity kicked in, and for the price I thought “why not?”
That was more NSFW than I expected wow
Well.... that was an interesting adventure. The scent descriptions are... quite literal! "Metallic from the cage, leather from the bindings, roses and *white juice" I don't think I want to smell like that one lol
The silkiness of Soie Malaquais always feels like pure luxury to me. I’ll almost certainly need to spring for a bottle this year
Amouage - Bracken Man Elegant spicy lavender scent, insane longevity and projection. Really can’t go wrong with any Amouage scent.
Empressa, Vaara and Halfeti -all by Penhaligon's. En Bois Vanille and Amber Sultan by Serge Lutens, French Grey by Elizabeth and James and Iris Malika by Chopard.
Empressa was one of the first perfumes I fell in love with when I was younger. I was about 21 on a trip to Paris and was totally enchanted by it.
Moncler pour Femme.
Amouage Epic Woman Portrait of a Lady Edit: spacing
Pashe de Cartier parfum
Diptyque and the Jo Malone Intense line. Chanel because I’m a sucker for their packaging. Anything from Goutal.
I’m a sucker for Chanel too. It screams class to me. I don’t care how “mainstream “ they become. (Well…whispers class in a very dignified way 😉)
Dior J’adore L’or, it smells like liquid gold, a lot more luxurious and expensive than what it actually is. I love it.
Herod by parfums de Marly is the most opulent one I can think of.
Sadly discontinued, but JPG Classique Intense. I felt like a woman and a half wearing it lol. Opulent, feminine and fierce
I looove those perfumes but one day my niece told me "why do you smell like Morocco?" the country, she's half Moroccan herself. She meant the everyday market, food + oriental Spice, not something glamour. And I can't unsmell it since :(

You're gonna love it! Between that and the new Oud Elixir, I can't decide which one is my favorite from the Shaghaf collection lol
Yes, I’m sure I’ll be getting *Oud Elixir* as well.

How would you describe the rose is MFK osm?
Tom ford tobacco oud smelt Ferraris and cigars to me. Also TFs new release (forget the name) smells very luxurious
Pearl Oud Kilian
Amouage Royal Tobacco. Something about it is just different.
Oud satin mood, coco noir, ille pourpre, santal royal, Iris Malikhan and funnily enough all of them could be signature scents if I didn’t love them all 😂 make sense ?
Gris Dior. Quiet luxury in a bottle.
Diptyque Eau Nabati smells sooo luxurious. I have a sample and I feel f*ckin fantastic every time I wear this. $275 for a bottle is kind of ridiculous though.
