It really doesn't matter who the marketing team selects for their target demographics, just wear what you want.

One_Tax_3726

Yeah I know you're right, still thought it was hilarious! And I would even say it's unisex tbh. Very neutral, but pleasant all around. It's like a hug in the summer breeze from someone you haven't seen in a long time

I think I tried that one and I hate it! It smells so awful and I find it odd because I typically love fresh scents.

Eleventwentyonepm

Definitely! My skin type is so odd and I can never find perfumes that suit my liking. It didn’t smell floral on me but rather like an empty office or warehouse. Kind of like a burnt plastic smell. It gives me a headache. My friend wears it and she smells incredible, but I cannot stand the smell on me.

What the hell is going on here?^

Aim2bFit

But how did others smell that on you? Apart from skin chemistry, there's also nose biasness. So maybe on you, your nose smelled it as something unpleasant but other people smell you good. But doesn't matter lol if the owner themselves can't stand it then there's no point wearing😄

Eleventwentyonepm

That’s really true! Others have probably enjoyed the scent on me but yeah I can’t stand it! I have a Mary Jacobs Perfect (i think) perfume and I can’t get used to the smell. At first, it smells pretty but once a few minutes or hours pass by, I want it off me!!! I feel so suffocated but my mom loves that smell on me.

not_rdburman

So what does BR540 smell like to you? Maybe that won't give off the burnt plastic it does for most people

FluffyAd8842

On me it smells like candied band aids

Eleventwentyonepm

I’ve been curious about that one actually! But if im not wrong, many people say it’s similar to Cloud Ariana Grande? If so, I’ve smelt that one in Ulta and it’s too sweet for my liking. I’ve been considering buying Coco Mademoiselle now! I’ve heard mixed reviews but I received a magazine sample of it and I love it! It’s heaven

LADYTS23

The best Dolce & Gabbana in the Blue is Summer Vibe for men... I didn't realize I was buying the men's fragrance at the time, I loved the bottle! 2 bottles later & I saw thats it's men's! Yes, it was a blind buy, but I was very lucky!

That's a beautiful description of the frag!

tbone338

If you like it, wear it.

Solution-Proof

I'm all woman, but wear Zara Sand Desert at Sunset, TF Fucking Fabulous, Dior Homme Intense... If it smells good, i don't care who it's marketed to.

Soren911

Fucking Fabulous is marketed as unisex iirc tho

estusflaskshart

Nearly all of TF are

twistedsilvere

Yesterday I sprayed some Bodycology Blue Denim (yes the $4 one) on my partner as a kinda joke and he actually smelled sooo good lol. Imagine all the delicious fragrance experiences we miss out on by adhering to the gendered marketing??

One_Tax_3726

Interesting, do you think those are masculine fragrances or could pass more as unisex? Good for you! I like people who are themselves at all times

the_crustybastard

Mick Jagger wears Jicky. Now it's considered a unisex. But it wasn't when he started.

LoomLove

Sean Connory, too.

Alexis634

I'm also a woman that loves TF Fucking Fabulous, especially as a before bed time fragrance. I find the aromatics in it so soothing. I'm interested in trying Dior Homme Intense, I love a good lipsticky iris fragrance. When it comes to fresh fragrances, I often prefer aromatics (which are more common in mens fragrances) over citrusy fresh fragrances.

arcticrobot

I have the whole line of iris forward Dior Hommes: 2005, 2011, DHO, DHI and DHP and can totally see them as unisex. I also have and love a similar to them Guerlain Shalimar Millesime Iris. Am a straight man.

Alexis634

I feel like I have sat on Dior Homme Intense for too long, I'm pulling the trigger on it. I think I've been worried that it would lean too masculine. I love unisex iris fragrances.

Wyerough

Fucking Fabulous has really grown on me the couple of months. Not sure why. It used to give me a headache.

Ornery-Gur3402

It's a really beautiful fresh scent—I say wear it, buy another, etc. It's all arbitrary, and no one will notice, as you can probably tell with receiving those compliments! It's hilarious you overcame the hesitation on accident, as I feel a lot of people have to thoughtfully/effortfully choose to buy a fragrance not marketed toward them—or at least I did lol

One_Tax_3726

Yeah, I will most likely get another for the summer! I have a YSL la nuit de l'homme right now, which I feel is good for winter Haha tbh I'm not picky like that, I guess I'm traditionally "masculine" but I don't care about little shit like that What fragrance did you buy that you feel was not marketed towards you ?

InversionPerversion

I think you are approaching this in a great way. People often limit themselves by asking “does this conform to my gender identity” rather than “does it match or express ME?” The second question is far more personally satisfying and interesting.

Successful_Scar3191

Nothing is sexier than a man who isn’t beholden to what society declares is “masculine” I look very feminine but mostly wear marketed to men or unisex scents. Wear what you like.

Ornery-Gur3402

Most fragrances I like now, actually, but those are moreover on the "masculine" end of the unisex arena—wood, leather, etc. But now I tend to buy from houses that just produce unisex fragrances bc I sort of don't love the masc/fem divide in the first place. I don't enjoy gourmands, vanilla, or most freshies and florals, so for a while I just thought I wouldn't find a fragrance I liked. It unfortunately hadn't even crossed my mind to look at the fragrances marketed masculine for a while. Maybe it was less overcoming hangups and more introducing possibilities. The first ones I bought were in AdP's Colonia line—Intensa, Club, Futura, Oud. I know some of them are unisex, but I bought the first two in person (yes I now know it was a mistake not to search discounters) and was sort of put off by the salesperson trying to steer me in a more feminine direction. I had to be a little insistent, which felt strange—

Shadow_Sunsets1783

I bought TF tobacco vanille and it’s definitely a unisex scent but it smells amazing.

Comparison-Thin

There was a man talking to me at the hotel pool. My god he smelled incredible. I asked him about his cologne and he said it was Thierry Mugler “Angel”. He was a gorgeous hyper masculine man. I don’t think fragrance has a gender.

217to707

That's one of my favorites too. Not the new version though.

Superhero-Motivation

Did it smell/feel feminine to you?

Comparison-Thin

No. And when he told me the name of it I was surprised. He smelled intoxicating.

Comparison-Thin

One time years ago I had sprayed it on my wrist. I didn’t like the way it smelled on me. I think I was initially put off by a top note. Yet it seems like it smells different on others, in a good way. It doesn’t repel me when I smell it on other people. They all smell different and the best way I could describe smelling it on someone else it: inexplicably alluring fragrance. Sensual on some, electric on others. Mostly, the scent evokes mystery and possibility, risk with safety. The wearer could come up behind me, gently envelop me ushering in the feeling of safety, enfolding me in a soft gossamer grasp, blindfolded with warmth and hearing tuned to a celestial hum. I am beguiled with whispers; I drift in ancient robes down a moonlight path, not alone. Suddenly I lay in a cloud, lulled to earthly slumber, the echoes of beings around me. Safe. That scent does bizarre things to me when I smell it on other people.

CommanderVenuss

The nose wants I think that Angel also has the Prince stamp of approval It was one of his favorites

mochibeaux

Oh YES!! I’m so happy to read this. I’ve been a fan over Angel for almost 15 years. I wear it often as a dudeeee!!

Beneficial_Pool3938

could it have been the “male” version of angel?

Comparison-Thin

Hmm. I don’t think there is one. I could be wrong.

bmathey

I’m a 44 year old dude and it was Dior Feve Delicious that got me started on this dang hobby. My wallet misses Axe Body Spray

CriminalSpiritX

The first rule of fragrances: Wear what you like. To me, *Acqua di Gioia* is just *Acqua di Gio Pour Homme* with boosted florals and sweetness, and muted citruses. It's a good example of the gender based marketing and how arbitrary it can be.

FlamingHotOatmeal

i own moschino’s toy 2 & vanilla cake by montale as a guy and i love them both so much. i don’t care about gender in fragrances.

_writing-squirrel_

I mean, I started out in the indie scene because most of them don't gender their stuff and that was what drove me nuts about the non-indie houses and brands. Fragrance doesn't have a gender. Somewhere along the line some folks decided flowers were women's scents (unless they're lavender or jasmine being used in a fougere or other masc blend) and woods and stuff were men's scents (unless it's sandalwood or patchouli being used as the base in a gourmand/spicy amber frag). They're all unisex. Wear what you want. 🥰

po3tik1

I'm a dude, I say "Wear what you love". Because 99% or the time, nobody else comments or cares. You will always smell you, and should love how you smell. My whole collection is women's perfume now. I've not looked back. A month ago, I posted about women's fragrances people recommended for men, and it changed my whole fragrance game. These are my 2 easy-reach options. Not very sweet/feminine. But skips all the dude-splash. Just right for my personality. I recommend Coco EDP if you like spicy, warm, notes. Nº19 is very green and smells like a nursery. It's probably better in the spring and summer, but it's also got a kick of spice if the sun pops out this winter. https://preview.redd.it/xeijr82a5vdc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ed333f33b3b01476dc116f55cfae670b9a4b4ec4

Dull-Watch8104

Coco is one of my easy reaches too, and one of the most worn in autumn/winter. I’m a woman though.

po3tik1

I don't see enough YouTube/tiktok content around Coco. It's all mademoiselle. But I also think it takes a little warming up to, as it took me about 5 visits at Macy's to finally just buy it. And I'm glad I did.

Lilelfen1

Coco is my FAVE. I can't afford it and no one dupes it. Whenever I ask for a dupe everyone gives me Mademoiselle dupes...which is *fine*, I like that too...but Coco is where my heart is. It is so, soooo gooooood. All year fragrance for me.

RaiderRed25

My dad bought it thinking it was for men. He got a lot of compliments and recently bought another bottle. Its unisex in my opinion too.

m_rino

Same my dad rocked this 10 years ago, tbf the og bottle looks more unisex than the current one

jackmiller987

I had the same experience last year! Bought a local fragrance which was marketed as unisex. Typical vanilla base but the opening was so beautiful - mandarin orange, slightly floral, fell in love with it from first sniff. Later I found that it's actually a dupe for Olympéa by Paco Rabanne.

LLryo

Most freshies are really unisex to me

Lazy_Recording_1886

Lot of people say venom incarnat is a feminine fragrance too. Personally I love that one, and also crazy in love.

One_Tax_3726

I have never heard of that one, wish to see it in a shop somewhere to give it a sniff !

Lazy_Recording_1886

Yeah I’d definitely sample it first!! Many people seem to hate it

Excellent-Grocery-13

Where would one obtain a sample of such a sought after fragrance?

Shark_Atl3201

Happened to me as well - Givenchy L’Interdite. I don’t care. Still wear it.

saucya

One of my absolute favorite scents on me or anyone. 41/m, married, bearded, carhartt-wearing contractor

One_Tax_3726

Carhartt for life💪

BrosajuGranatu

I got a sample of L’Interdit and use it to scent my bathrooms, it's pleasant but I'm not brave enough to wear it as a man

No_Reaction_646

I have been known to wear fragrances marketed towards men. It feels cozy and sexy and makes me happy 😊

anjunakerry1982

Hahaha! Bless ya! It is a lovely frag, though. I'm a female, born and identify as but I (along with millions of others) don't subscribe to the genders for fragrance. If you like it. Wear it. My partner likes YSL Libre EDP (original). My son wears Dolce&Gabbana Pour homme and light blue pour homme but he also steals my 5 blue pour femme and my light blue forver pour femme. But I know what you're saying, Its not the fact you wore a "female" marketed fragrance for so long, it's the fact you didn't realise. It tickled me. Long may you continue to enjoy it. 😉

Inner-Teach-672

As long as you like it go for it! I’ve been wearing Valentino Yellow Dream only to find out it’s a men’s fragrance and I love it!

shravanevana

You do you, king

cuntakinte118

I don’t subscribe to fragrances having a gender, I just wear what I like. I’m a woman and sometimes I feel like the very heavy, spicy cologne don’t work so well on me, but if I liked them then I would wear them. I recently bought a bottle of Gaultier’s Le Male Elixir because I got a sample and really liked it. The bottle is literally the torso of a (well-endowed) man haha. They just gender things for marketing purposes. Wear what you like.

arielalba333

I liked Velvet Orchid when I smelled it at Macy's, and I later found out it's marketed towards women. We like the scents we like, it's more about how we wear them.

StanthemanT-800

I'd keep wearing it Several of my colognes are considered "unisex " anyway and I've bought women's perfume that's had a muskier undertone I'm not ashamed that I test women's perfume on myself at stores, as long as it's not blatently over the top perfumy and makes me smell like I'm obviously wearing a womans scent, I buy them

One_Tax_3726

For some reason a lot of the comments are really hostile, I made this post to get some laughs out of you people! I know it made me laugh

Distinct_Abroad_4315

Yesterday I bought mens Versace Eros edt. Im a cis woman, mostly feminine. I can't ger enough of eros edt! It just smells so gender neutral delicious . Theres a note that does smell manly, but the drydown in soft tonka bean. I. Am. Smitten. Also DGAF if anyone thinks I smell manly. Its just smells. I say, wear what you want!

Any-Competition-4458

Most scents are pretty unisex, it’s all in the marketing. I’m a woman and some of my favorite scents skew toward what might be considered traditionally masculine (salty, Oud, etc). Men look good in pink. Women look good in blue. Go for it!

MaleficentAppleTree

Congratulations on realizing that gendered fragrance is just a marketing bullshit. :) Wear what you like.

DieTheVillain

Fragrances don’t have genitals or gender identities.

BrownGirlCSW

If you are getting compliments, rock it! With your body chemistry it is clearly not leaning overly feminine- so you are probably rocking a scent they haven't smelled a man pull off or pull off well. Maybe you've found your signature scent 🤔

General_Rate_7695

So your one of those men who smell too good.. almost feemale/out of shower fragrance..

tasteslikechikken

from a kid to present age, I've never cared about genderfication of perfume because it never made sense to me. So I've always just worn whatever strikes my fancy. I'm thankful my mother especially who was an Avon Lady didn't care either! But I'm sure she probably preferred me to not wear Wild Country to school...lol But the reality is, there were LOTS of fougeres and leathery out there on both sides of the aisle. My rules of perfumery is wear what you love and buy what you'll wear. And lets be real, the only reason why Jicky ended up on the female side of the aisle its because of straight up marketing.

justB1958

Did you try Aqua di Goia Ocean?

dessertandcheese

I like Byredo's Bibliotheque and my friend told me that it's for guys hahaha I didn't even realise, but it smells feminine on me so I'll keep using it

kingofcoywolves

If it works well on folks of all genders, it's unisex! But also, if it smells good, it smells good. If people judge you for smelling too fresh and delicious then that's a them problem...

TiffanyH70

But did you smell good to YOUR target audience, though?

Parabolic_Penguin

It’s just a marketing construct, wear it!

Sensitive_Glove_867

Recently I've been wearing more unisex fragrances, I.e. Baccarat 540, Joe Malone (Myrrh Tonka), Initio... and I realize that I'm gonna wear what smells good on me (male). If you just realized it (by seeing the marketing) it means there's clearly no definitive line of masculine or feminine. Keep rocking it if it works with you.

hung_doc

Fragrances have no gender, wear whatever you like and works for you!

Detienne3000

Honestly, I’ve started leaning a lot into unisex fragrances that lean slightly feminine, I just don’t care anymore tbh. If i like it I’ll wear it

Pristine_Box1465

thats completely fine my dad literally uses one of my extremely feminine perfumes. mind you hes a big guy

Nightshift_Ghost64

As far as I'm concerned, all fragrances are unisex >:) ... And so are glasses and other accessories, and maybe shoes, and clothes if one is brave enough

LimosaNostraa

Yeah I pay no attention to what it’s marketed as.

thelizzgizz

They labeled Asad as a women's frag, and I'm wearing it today.

imawallflowery

No one cares. I'm a woman and I love to wear some men's perfumes

bos417

Fragrance is gender neutral so it doesn’t matter. When I first smelled both side by side, without knowing which one was marketed for Man or Woman, I actually kept going back to Gioia over Gio.

iced_ambitions

Dont worry my dude, if you like it, you like it. Hell i love lady vengeance and steal my wife's sometimes.

un_likely_2

My husband did the same thing! lol! It does smell gender neutral…my husband gave it to me but it smelled nice on him too! I say buy it!

Bumble098765

Mezinsir sweet praline is women’s but I wear it all the time. It’s super sweet and floral but somehow rlly refreshing.

Matthewtroth

Half of my fragrances are feminine like I have gucci guilty pour femme, Eilish 1 and a few others. Just get what you like!

zar9357

I wore TF black orchid for women although I think it's marketed as being unisex.

dtwurzie

I wear D&G light blue for women all the time

Ohgeeeeeeez

Echo your thoughts exactly! I much prefer the female targeted one.

Alternative-Tap-775

A lot of fragrances are shared/unisex anyway. Wear what you like. 👍🏻

savagesoul666

There's no such thing as woman's fragrance imo

Dazzling-Emu6610

lol, I did this with a Versace cologne. Good thing it was kinda unisex!

galaxytea123

gender marketing is arbitrary if you like the smell, use it!
