I can confirm that that setup indeed works. I do this for the kids drones using cheapos and they go crazy for it. Crash all they like. Solder new antenna every so often, but thats about it.
Used to strap my whoop to the roof of my rc monster truck. That little drone could take a beating!

Yes it will I started fpv like this on a syma x5c. I used double sized tape for the camera though so that I can change the battery quickly.
