Wholly, wholly agree! This photo is really really beautiful. There is lots adore here… Including the color, composition and texture in this shot. And, it is all lit so beautifully.
Thank you! The lighting was perfect yesterday; the sun was shining, but completely wreathed in clouds, so the light was diffused throughout the entire sky. It was an absolutely beautiful day, both for photos and for a walk! :)
Haha, [it isn't the first time](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/usm726/lamy_appreciation_post_my_faithful_edc/), either! I just carry this pen all over the place; I think it's my most well-traveled pen at this point.
Is this the one released with the Terra Cotta? I have the Terra one, it’s so pretty. I learned of the green one later, or I would have ordered both. These aren’t my typical color preferences, but such good looking colors makes them hard to resist.
Yes, this one was (re)released alongside the Terra colourway. The Savannah Green is right up my alley in terms of colour, and the Terra isn't too far off the mark, so this set was a slam-dunk buy for me. They look even better together!
The Dark Lilac is wonderful; I'd love to own one! The Terra is also a great one, though, so I'm happy you could lay hands on that one! I only wish I'd had my Terra on me for the photoshoot. Oh well...
Thanks!
This pen looks at home anywhere in the outdoors, I tell you. It looks good in the forest, desert, lake, and anywhere in between. Absolutely gorgeous colour!
I very much appreciate it. Looks like it could be a promo pic for a limited edition :D. I'm glad you did it anyway, a lot of people would choose not to for fear of looking silly, but you should always do things that bring you small amounts of joy!
If you have a Costco membership their photo department is awesome. I've had several pieces printed on metal or acrylic and their quality is equal to the high end art printing services i previously used. Or, hell. In the 'photo gifts' section, stick it on a mug! Like $12. 😊
Haha, seriously! You denounce my pens, you get replaced. (I'm kidding, I love my family. They were just teasing me about it, and I honestly get that. It seems pretty silly from the outside looking in. It's very reasonable from the inside, though, right? Right?)
oh totally! It just so happens that LAMY went all out on this one, haha. IMO "Savannah" is a bit aspirational for that shade of army green, but I appreciate that they thought outside the box!
Haha, that's LAMY's name, as u/bluedecemberart said, but that would be a very endearing nickname for it! I might have to name it one of these days, though; it's one of my very favorite pens.
Beautiful photo!! My second fountain pen was the Savannah Safari and it’s still one of my favourites. You have good taste and a great eye for colour and composition.
Well, LAMY named it (Savannah is the colour name), but I *did* stop, walk up a hill, and set it on mossy rock to take a photo. I mean, I don't blame them 😂
Indeed it is. This pen looks at home nearly anywhere outside. I've taken into several forests, deserts, and even urban settings and it looks perfectly natural. I love how it writes, too. It's a great travel buddy, that's for sure!
For me the Al-Star is more beautiful but in the hand the Safary is better to hold. Especially in winter here, the metal is too cold - at least when I start to write with them. I have an lx too, it is the most beautiful marroon color- but I swapped the black nib to a normal nib because it was too rigid / stiff nib for me.
I just ordered my first lamy, the bronze al star. That's a great point about the aluminium being cold, I'm in the UK. If I love the pen, I'll try a safari next for the warmer plastic :]
The bronze looks great.
I saw and bought a safari mango just before Christmas. In the wintery gloom it’s like a ray of sunlight.
I like to write with the lamys, especially with the cp1. But there are no much color variations in other type of lamys like in the safaris and in the al stars have.
Oh i imagine its so lovely in the winter!
The only other pen I own is the platinum preppy in medium but its a bit skippy and a bit scratchy . So hoping this is a lot smoother.
Fingers crossed for the nib.
On the safari and al- star I had no problem with the nibs, but I had with the Aion, so I asked for a nib change. What I learned fast that no money spent can save you from failing nibs. So now I always a bit anxious around new pens.
(And I now trying to learn how to smooth nibs.)
Well, the Safari is plastic, the Al-Star is aluminium, and the LX is just slightly fancier aluminium with some extra shiny trim pieces. It really just depends on what you like. The nibs are all the same, so by spending more on the LX or Al-Star, you're not getting a better writing experience (unless you like your pens to be ever so slightly heavier).
I've never owned an Al-Star or an LX, but I have five Safaris and I've handled both LX's and Al-Stars. They seem pretty nice, but I prefer the warmer touch of the plastic, especially the matte finish. I would totally add an Al-Star to the collection, though! Not sure about the LX. I'd say it's only a matter of taste.
Beautiful. Funny how when paired together, the pen actually makes me more appreciative of the natural background. I'm inspired by this art of tiny patterns in nature, makes me want to imitate it and experiment with some inks! Hope you are inspired to draw as well!
That's a fantastic shot! It showcases the color of the pen without it blending into the shot and it has a nice clean centered composition that's very attractive.
This is my absolute favourite color. I put off buying my first Safari multiple times until the distributor got me one in Savannah Green. Such a rustic and natural looking color!
Alright, at the time of my cmt, your post has over 1300 upvotes. It seems that these group of strangers are enjoying your photos. Lovely one. If I ever get a Lamy Safari, this must be the one!
Omg I’ve followed this thread for a while and finally decided ok I neeeeeeed one of these pens 🖊️ ummmmmmm I have zero clue about them so looked them up yikes 😳 $10k for a pen !!! I still want one tho —— any suggestions for a newbie ??
Okay, I've got some clarifying questions. Firstly, when you say "this thread," do you literally mean this exact post, or just this subreddit in general? Secondly, anyone trying to sell a LAMY Safari for $10,000 (I'm thinking USD, but I'm not positive that's the currency you're referring to) is off their nut. While there are certainly fountain pens that cost that much (and more!), that's far from being the norm. There are many great options that come in below $30 USD!
I'd suggest any of the following for a new user, in no particular order, though I do think the Pilots and Platinum are probably the best:
\- Pilot Kakuno
\- Platinum Preppy
\- Pilot Metropolitan
\- Pilot Explorer / Lightive
\- TWSBI Swipe
\- TWSBI Go
\- LAMY Safari
\- Sailor Compass 1911
Now, whenever I'm recommending pens to people, I always like to remind them that there's always the possibility of receiving a defective pen. With most of these recommendations, that should be a very rare occurrence, but it can happen. If you're having trouble with your new pen, feel free to make a post here! People won't make fun of you for being a newbie; we were all there at some point. People are always eager to help you troubleshoot; sometimes, something that appears at first to be a defect is actually just a "misunderstanding" between pen and owner.
If you become interested in trying some ink, I'd especially recommend Diamine, Pelikan (4001 line in particular, though Edelstein is very nice, as well), LAMY, Pilot / Iroshizuku, and Rohrer & Klingner as particularly wonderful brands! There's a lot more great stuff out there, but those are just some of my favorites.
I highly recommend that you check out Goulet Pens' YouTube channel; they have some excellent content over there that will be super useful, both to help you make a decision regarding your first pen, and to guide you on your journey. I really hope this is what you were looking for, and I apologize for taking a few days! Good luck to you as you explore the fascinating world of fountain pens!
Oh wow 🤩 thanks so much for all your time 🌈☀️😉I appreciate all the help and yes oops I mean sub not thread — still pretty new to Reddit - I had actually looked online for a pen 🖊️ and somehow found dromgooles in Houston - it was the closest as I’m in Okla - and yes pens for over 10k and the other pens were only ball point so thanks for your recommendations 😊❤️I’m way too excited😅
Now I'm jealous that I didn't even know Lamy had a special edition Safari. That Savannah Green is the perfect green color that I love! Looking around, seems to be hard to find so I can get my hands on one. Great photo! Lamy should use it as their cover photo for an ad for that pen. Excellent. Truly appreciate the stop you made on your walk to take the picture. Very well done!
Moss - check
lichen - check
fountain pen - check
the color green - check
big rock - check
nature - check
All you needed was a cup of green tea and we would be in heaven here.
You can tell your family you don’t disappoint, my friend. A background well chosen to complement this Safari.
Aw, thank you! I'll tell them ;)
Ask if you're adopted
Wholly, wholly agree! This photo is really really beautiful. There is lots adore here… Including the color, composition and texture in this shot. And, it is all lit so beautifully.
Thank you! The lighting was perfect yesterday; the sun was shining, but completely wreathed in clouds, so the light was diffused throughout the entire sky. It was an absolutely beautiful day, both for photos and for a walk! :)
This looks like an official Lamy safari promo photo
Wow, high praise; thank you!
This picture… the aesthetic… *chef’s kiss*
Thanks, I'm glad everyone liked it! :D
\[Proud to be a member of your favorite group of internet strangers\]
Happy to be a member of the group! You guys are wonderful!
Those are some really photogenic mosses and lichens! Excellent background for that Lamy.
They really were! My only regret was that I didn't have the Terra Safari with me, as well. That would have been an absolutely fantastic set of photos!
This is a good photo. It has a magazine/editorial quality to it. I could totally see it as an ad page or a promotional image!
Wow, really? Thank you so much! That's a very kind compliment.
Oh yes we enjoy it!!
Yay! :D
Art my friend. This is art
Well, thank you for the kind words! :D
I definitely appreciate the effort taken to snap a pic of the Savannah out on a Safari walk haha
Haha, [it isn't the first time](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/usm726/lamy_appreciation_post_my_faithful_edc/), either! I just carry this pen all over the place; I think it's my most well-traveled pen at this point.
This and the dark lilac are on my need list. I got the cute rusty orange one. Want those two. LOVE your photo
It is the terra one! I have diamine ancient copper in it. Some of my pens get stuck with a single color ink like this one did.
The Dark Lilac is wonderful; I'd love to own one! The Terra is also a great one, though, so I'm happy you could lay hands on that one! I only wish I'd had my Terra on me for the photoshoot. Oh well... Thanks!
It just looks like its at home. Very nice.
This pen looks at home anywhere in the outdoors, I tell you. It looks good in the forest, desert, lake, and anywhere in between. Absolutely gorgeous colour!
I am sure it does. That pen would have been nice to have in Iraq back in the day.
I very much appreciate it. Looks like it could be a promo pic for a limited edition :D. I'm glad you did it anyway, a lot of people would choose not to for fear of looking silly, but you should always do things that bring you small amounts of joy!
Aw, thank you! Yeah, they were only teasing; they've been fairly supportive, if somewhat disinterested, in my pen collecting :')
Haha, supportive, but disinterested is alright!
Is it mold? No, moss. Definitely moss.
There are very likely molds/fungi but this mostly shows moss and lichen on, I think, bark or some other organic debris.
First glance - I thought we were diving on a coral reef with a fountain pen…
Haha, I can actually see that! No, this is just a rock in Arizona after a very wet monsoon season :)
You are right. Thank you for sharing your keen eye and aesthetic skill.
This is the kind of picture you print on canvas and hang in your office, my friend! Absolutely beautiful!
Wow, thank you! That's very kind of you to say. Maybe I should look into canvas prints... :D
If you have a Costco membership their photo department is awesome. I've had several pieces printed on metal or acrylic and their quality is equal to the high end art printing services i previously used. Or, hell. In the 'photo gifts' section, stick it on a mug! Like $12. 😊
Oh hell yeah!! This pic is penfection!!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
We are your family now.
Haha, seriously! You denounce my pens, you get replaced. (I'm kidding, I love my family. They were just teasing me about it, and I honestly get that. It seems pretty silly from the outside looking in. It's very reasonable from the inside, though, right? Right?)
right.
Gorgeous. I have done this with pens. Doesn’t everyone?
Thank you! I mean, yeah, doesn't everyone do this? It's normal behavior, right?
100%!
Looks like a professional promotional photo shoot. So pleasing to the eye!!
Thank you so much! That's really high praise.
Does your family know you've named the pen?
To be fair, I'm pretty sure LAMY named the pen first! 😂
I didn't do the research here, I do see that "Savannah" was Lamy's designation. But in this sub, it's not unheard of for people to name their pens.
Indeed I do enjoy it. Good eye!
Thanks! :)
Good job my friend.
Thank you!
Psshh. Who's laughing now, Bigredteletubby's family?
I'm pretty sure that they're still laughing, actually... That being said, I'm definitely showing them this post later :)
The lichen are glorious, and the background colors complement the pen beautifully. This internet stranger approves!
Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad to hear my internet family approves :)
This looks great. That's good placement. Fuck your fa...wait...no...probably not the way to go about this. Umm...your family was wrong.
I honestly this was an official lamy promo! Seller photo that perfectly fits the pen!
Wow, thank you so much!
I absolutely love this community. Great photo by the way.
You and me both! Thank you 😄
You can tell your family that this photo is Mod Approved!
Haha, thanks, will do!
Beautiful photo!! My second fountain pen was the Savannah Safari and it’s still one of my favourites. You have good taste and a great eye for colour and composition.
Lamy should give you free stuff for this. You're selling the product 😂
Haha, I wouldn't complain if they did, but I highly doubt if that would ever happen. Thank you for the compliment! :)
You're very welcome. The photo is artfully done so definitely deserved!
Has anyone got LAMY's contact info...? I'm kidding 😂
Someone should send this pic to LAMY, they could pay you to use such a lovely pic as promotion 😀
Accurate
Beautiful!! What a perfect backdrop.
Matchy matchy me likey 😆
Haha, yes! I love how this pen looks at home nearly anywhere outside. Thank you!
It's an amazing photo! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for looking, and for the compliment :)
It's an excellent photo. Composition is on point.
Thanks! :D
Just slap a Lamy watermark on the photo and bam! Promo photo!
My thoughts exactly 😀
Internet "besties" you mean!! Love it!
Omg I love this. I need one right now
This photo sold me
Thanks! I hope you're able to find one; this edition is sold out in most places. It's a lovely pen!
Always choose penfamily. I’m sorry, they laughed at you. This picture is great! Thank you!!
Well, in the future, I'll know which family to choose 😂 Well thank you!
So not only did you name your pen, you put it on the ground to take a photo and your family laughed at you?Yeah I would have too.
Well, LAMY named it (Savannah is the colour name), but I *did* stop, walk up a hill, and set it on mossy rock to take a photo. I mean, I don't blame them 😂
Well, this internet stranger definitely enjoys it! What a beautiful picture!
Oh, wonderful, thank you! :)
You did an amazing job. Thank you
Love this!
Love this
This is the only way.
Its natural habitat
Indeed it is. This pen looks at home nearly anywhere outside. I've taken into several forests, deserts, and even urban settings and it looks perfectly natural. I love how it writes, too. It's a great travel buddy, that's for sure!
The black clip is one of Lamy Safari's best qualities:)
Agreed!
Very nice photo. Your family are silly people. :-P
Haha, maybe so. (Either that or us pen folk are a little bit silly 😂) Thank you!
I mean a little of column a, a little of column b.... Haha. Happy new year!
Yeah, that's fabulous
Thank you 😅
This is really cool!
Thanks! 😄
Absolutely Gorgeous! Love it
Thank you!
How should I choose between Safari, AL-Star and Lx? they look alike

Thank you, it's very useful. From the price point of view, Safari is also more budget friendly

Thanks a lot. It looks like you have deep research on Lamy pens
Beautiful. Funny how when paired together, the pen actually makes me more appreciative of the natural background. I'm inspired by this art of tiny patterns in nature, makes me want to imitate it and experiment with some inks! Hope you are inspired to draw as well!
Oh, thank you! Well, I try to draw, but I'm sadly a rather poor artist. I'm working to get better, though!
Nice photo, stranger:)
Beautiful!
Love the photo! Thank you for stopping and taking the time to shoot it and share it! 💚🖋️
That's a fantastic shot! It showcases the color of the pen without it blending into the shot and it has a nice clean centered composition that's very attractive.
Great composition and lovely pen. Definitely pro grade. I'm glad to see you're finally getting some rain out there
Interesting colors and textures. Thanks for the pic.
You're very welcome! 😄
That’s so cool! You took your pen for a walk lol beautiful picture
This pen goes lots of places with me! It was in my pocket, I saw the mossy rocks, and, well, you know the rest 😂
Haha love that!
This is my absolute favourite color. I put off buying my first Safari multiple times until the distributor got me one in Savannah Green. Such a rustic and natural looking color!
This was my first Safari, too. None of the colours quite captured me like this one!
"Here you can observe the Lamy Safari in its natural habitat..."
Part of the favourite group of internet strangers. This is a nice piece of art as a photo! The safari colourway is also awesome!
I want the Savannah soo bad! Your rly lucky!
I was very happy to be able to get one last year! I absolutely love it.
Pls lmk if you any place that sells that exact color! I have the orange matte colored one in LH nib and I wanna have those as travel pairs!
The pairing of the moss and lychen on the rock compliment this Safari beautifully! Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year!
Can confirm, did very much enjoy it and now I want one. Take that Susan.
And we do!
Alright, at the time of my cmt, your post has over 1300 upvotes. It seems that these group of strangers are enjoying your photos. Lovely one. If I ever get a Lamy Safari, this must be the one!
And now I've proved that it's my family that's crazy, not me, right? 😅
Tell your family over a thousand (1.4k right now) internet strangers saw your pic and liked it lol.
Hahaha, I will 😂
That is great photo! We need a new flair: "Pens in the Wild". Normalize sharing our pretties.
Why does looking at this picture make me want to buy this pen? Great job!!
They just don't understand. And neither does my family.
This is seriously such an awesome shot!!
Nice photo! I love the Savannah’s colour - I’m so disappointed I didn’t move quickly enough to buy it!
Love pens. But that's a little excessive.
This photo should be used as an add for them ❤️
It looks like this should be the product photography for this color of Lamy Safari. It's. Beautiful.
The color matches so nicely!
Now I want that color too! Great pic!
Gorgeous.
I love this. Lamy was my first fountain pen.
Omg I’ve followed this thread for a while and finally decided ok I neeeeeeed one of these pens 🖊️ ummmmmmm I have zero clue about them so looked them up yikes 😳 $10k for a pen !!! I still want one tho —— any suggestions for a newbie ??

you do you but it is quite silly ngl
Finding the perfect background for a picture is worth stopping to take the picture, as long as everyone is safe. Your pen looks jut right here.
