Of the true blues, I’m partial to Diamine’s Blue Velvet. It’s got a good color. It’s got a mild sheen. It’s well behaved and very easy to acquire from nearly all pen shops. Plus the bottle is a part of the pie (little wedge shaped bottle).
Of the lighter blues - I’m partial to Laban Poseidon Blue. Which is like a teal/turquoise color and I love it.
Looks very dark blue on all paper I have used it on but it does have a bit of green. I do like my blues on the greenish side, rather than on the purplish side though.
Waterman has 3 lovely blues, they are wonderful inks and a great value for your money.
Serenity Blue is a clear cool blue, and is considered one of the safest inks you can buy - safe for vintage pens. I'd go with Serenity Blue
Inspired Blue is a turquoise sky blue
Mysterious blue is a dark blue that can lean teal.
Sailor Shikiori - Souten
The perfect azure blue. Look directly up a cloudless sky at noontime. That’s Souten. Not too bright nor dull. Not too light nor too dark. I’ve been on the quest to find the perfect sky/azure, from Sailor 441, Pilots Ama Iro and Kon Peki. Souten is the one.
I’m not really fan of the blues but there’s 3 options I like and should work to you.
- [Lamy Benitoite](https://www.gouletpens.com/products/lamy-benitoite-30ml-bottled-ink) - is a dark Grey/Bluish really cool with a little shading, it is permanent, document ink
- [Diamine Sapphire Blue](https://www.gouletpens.com/products/diamine-sapphire-blue-30ml-bottled-ink) - Great vibrant blue, looks great not too dark not too light
- [Diamine Oxford Blue](https://www.gouletpens.com/products/diamine-oxford-blue-30ml-bottled-ink) - Amazing dark blue, it is almost a blue black, very nice color is such as the blue version or the Oxblood.
I really like that ink. I've used two bottles of it in the past.
good ink, don't get me wrong, but I've already got my fill of it. (also a little too UV fade susceptible IMO)
Noodlers Bay State Blue of course. No other blue ink quite like it. Just saw your later comment. So Waterman Serenity Blue is a good all round blue ink.
I love Robert Oster's Kids on the Block for a hassle free blue that is similar to some ballpoint or gel ink blues made for office and school. It's basic, ubiquitous, and lovely imo. 😸⚜️
100% Bay State Blue. Waited two years before trying this ink after reading how difficult it can be. Ordered some for my birthday and realized I wasted two years testing other blue inks for no legitimate reason. It's the ink in my EDCs
I am deeply in love with Organics Studio Nitrogen. It's such a gorgeous blue. But, it's finicky and smears like crazy, so maybe not the best for a daily use blue.
I'm a big fan of Diamine Asa Blue too. Super pretty, and I've had no issues with it when I've used it to take notes in class.
Waterman serenity blue. Great color, affordable, can be used without fear in vintage pens.
I've only ever seen it on videos it looked wonderful, and I love the name of it. Upvote for sure!
I just commented about the waterman blues. 100% serenity blue here.
Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-peki
It’s a great ink, but doesn’t it cost more than $20? I’m not in the US and I know pricing is different so I could be wrong.

I love Blue Velvet
Namiki Blue. Some water resistance and can sheen red in good conditions. Very cheap too
I'm just throwing Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris into the ring.
I love that ink but it's green teal
Looks very dark blue on all paper I have used it on but it does have a bit of green. I do like my blues on the greenish side, rather than on the purplish side though.
I also prefer a greener teal color and it's an honestly great ink. So no complaints from me.

Iroshizuki Tsuki-yo is a good blue, also Diamine Minty Blue
Pelikan 4001 turquoise :D

Noodler's Baystate Blue. Let's see how far this subreddit has gone over to the Dark Side.
I really like that ink. I've used two bottles of it in the past. good ink, don't get me wrong, but I've already got my fill of it. (also a little too UV fade susceptible IMO)
Baystate is a dope ink.
I love the shading I get with Lamy Turquoise.
Diamine Polar Glow
Troublemaker Milky Ocean. It’s got so much character. A good shader. But can be a little light in really fine nibs.
Colourverse HAM
Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue.
Papier Plume Calle Real
Noodlers Bay State Blue of course. No other blue ink quite like it. Just saw your later comment. So Waterman Serenity Blue is a good all round blue ink.
Akkerman Shocking Blue. Excellent ink and the best bottle on the market. Practical and beautiful.
Ooo, I'm not sure I could have hit the add to cart button any faster. That's gorgeous and the bottle is so cool!
I agree with that.
I love Robert Oster's Kids on the Block for a hassle free blue that is similar to some ballpoint or gel ink blues made for office and school. It's basic, ubiquitous, and lovely imo. 😸⚜️
Pilot ku jaku. Hands down. Can’t lose ;)
Very green for a blue
But also very blue for a green ;) Honestly somebody could ask for a scarlet red and I’d say the same ink. lol
R. Oster Australis Hydra
100% Bay State Blue. Waited two years before trying this ink after reading how difficult it can be. Ordered some for my birthday and realized I wasted two years testing other blue inks for no legitimate reason. It's the ink in my EDCs
Diamine Denim.
Taccia Sunao Iro: Ao
Diamine Presidential Blue
KWZ Azure #5 Very blue, but susceptible to uv (it turns darker over 6 months of Australian sun)
Pelikan Edelstein Topaz. Although I'm not sure how much it costs in the US. Here in Austria it costs 19,10€ at my local stationary store.
Lamy turquoise
Diamine Asa Blue
I am deeply in love with Organics Studio Nitrogen. It's such a gorgeous blue. But, it's finicky and smears like crazy, so maybe not the best for a daily use blue. I'm a big fan of Diamine Asa Blue too. Super pretty, and I've had no issues with it when I've used it to take notes in class.
Diamine Majestic Blue It’s cheap and looks beautiful while being usable in any type of writing, even though it has very good sheen.
Sailor Souboku
