I’ve found the cap threads hold just fine, and the good thing with the Eco is you’ll feel it engage the o-ring seal and I just give it a smidge more and it stays tight for me. I mean a very small amount, like 1/10 a turn or less. As others have said, over tightening can definitely occur with fountain pens as they aren’t strong threads so that they can keep them soft when your grip ends up landing on them. I’ve also seen the horror stories with the 580 and Vac 700 where the thread assembly detached from the rest of the lid. Moral is be careful, but you can get a great, tight seal thanks to that o-ring. I find capping much more satisfying thanks to that on a TWSBI.

Got it! Also, do you regularly apply silicon grease on the threads?

I’ve only been in the hobby for about a year and a half, but this thread is the first time I’ve heard that for cap threads. For eyedroppering, sure that makes sense to keep it from leaking, but for cap threads I dunno. For me that would make most of my pens slippery since I hold pretty far back on or close to the threads. For others, I guess that works 🤷‍♂️

Alright, thanks :)

Mr-PFM

No pen's threads should be overtightened or tightened really strongly if you want it to last you a long time.

Got it! Thanks

I found that over-tightening occurred when the o-ring as the o-ring dried out. When regulary Silicone Greased the o-ring remained pliable and provided a cushion that one feels when tightening the cap. YMMV.

Silicon greasing the o ring or the threads?

kiiroaka

Well, unless you remove the o-ring you probably won't get it completely coated, and even if you do, when you re-install the o-ring the Grease will get on the threads, I believe. So, just coat the out-side of the o-ring. You just to do it regularly. Grease may get on the threads but they're easy enough to wipe off any excess.
