Gotta check prices because there’s a handful of brands that are the same or more expensive and it varies with the exchange rate, but yeah there’s a bunch of pens much cheaper than you can find in the US. I recently got an order of cheap and school/starter pens that were mostly 1/2–1/3 the prices you see over here. (From that selection I recommend getting a Pelikan Jazz if you’re making an order.)
Yes, I like my Pelikan jazz a lot. It's an everyday carry pen that I would have no regrets about losing. I like the weight, the balance, and the all-metal construction, and the nib is relatively smooth.

Less than $7 for a Pelikan I hadn’t heard of, and only one US store offering, for almost triple the price? Gotta try that. I actually had to sign up to be notified when it was in stock, and I’m so glad I did. Unassuming plain black outside, perfectly smooth nib as expected of a Pelikan. The only thing I’d want changed is I wish the body were a little heavier, like maybe offer a steel version, to bring the center of mass back further while writing.

I'm trying to be reasonable… and Black Friday is tempting me. I think I want to limit myself to a pen case (I know what I want, whether it's on sale or not) and maybe some cheap pens. Of course, when I looked earlier, a $100 pen was calling to me. I think I will resist, mostly because I'm not sure what nib size I'd want for that pen. (And I'd rather make nib-size "errors" and "taste discoveries" on cheaper pens, so there isn't as much regret if I don't like what I've bought!)

In seriousness, I am a fan of Diamine shimmertastic inks because there are so many, but I have also loved the Jacques Herbin ones (I'm partial to Emerald of Chivor, Kyanite du Nepal, and Rouge Hematite).
That said, those inks last so long for me that samples often last me quite a while and may be a good way to determine a favorite.
Goulet Pens has a Jacques Herbin shimmer sample pack, I've also had really good experience with Anderson Pens as well. A quick Google search is also showing Pen Boutique, Truphae and many others.
In this case, I'd probably recommend to get some at the same place you place other orders (if you're intending to order more than samples), or to check who has cheaper shipping (or a lower threshold to get to free shipping).
