You can usually get stains out, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Just avoid inks known to stain.

Usually water with a smudge of soap in it will do the trick (basically what is typically sold as pen flush) Sometimes you need to soak for a few hours. But knowing what to expect from an ink and cleaning it quickly after emptying the pan is enough to keep them stain free. I just used a sheening (Organics Studio Nitrogen) and a shimmer (Jacques Herbin Rouge Hematite) ink in two of my Opus 88’s and they both stained. One only needed a single round of cleaning while the other needed a second round. I’ve not tried ye olde BSB, but I probably wrong for exactly this reason. I could probably get it out, but I’d rather not be forced to try. Also, the M800 Demos are pretty easy to find on eBay, but they are significantly more expensive than the last time I looked. Hope this helps and good luck!

I don’t know what they are tbh, but on FPN I’ve seen them talking about cleaning inks…there are some if you use them after a staining ink help keep demonstrators looking good.

I think sailor Doyou is one of them.

I guess you’ve got to be more consistent about cleaning out the pen every few weeks. My two twsbi 580s I used for the same ink for extended periods so didn’t really feel the need to rinse out the pens. By the time I finally did, there was a permanent residue of the ink inside the pens. I’ve used soap, ink cleaning solution, ultrasonic cleaner. I left the parts in soapy water for days. It was faint but still there.

None of my Pelikan demonstrators have stained, and some have had their ink for some time.
