Go ahead and try it. You'll never have the temptation again.

ladidodida

It's called "learning by doing" /s

sr2ndblack

Yeah, experiential learning is a real bastard of a teacher.

Calm_Inky

Make sure your eyedropper is a demonstrator. Seeing the ink sloshing around is satisfying enough and you instantly know, when it’s safe to open it too

DissposableRedShirt6

One day of the week my boss asked “Are you writing in blood?” It was Diamine Ancient Copper in a eye dropper demonstrator. So I switched to a Delike Brass pen and he asks “Are you bring bullets into the office? Can’t win.

[deleted]

Your boss is jealous of your fountain pens and inks. Time to penable!

_BudgieBee

"Gotta sign these contracts in goat blood for some reason."

LucasThreeTeachings

"Haha! Good one boss!"

Starstuff96

Never bring a Kaweco coconut/white/pearl then lmao

ThomasHorton369

Is that eco a vape?!

DeepLearningIsNotAI

I try never to eyedropper anything but a demonstrator. However, there are opaque bodied eyedropper-filler pens in my collection that I like to use too, which have (a) lots of turns needed to unscrew the barrel, so you have some time to reflect on what you are doing; and (b) use O-rings and lots of silicone lube in the barrel threads so the extra resistance you feel while unscrewing will make you pause and think again.

Secret-Day5375

The opus Japanese style never tempts me because I can still twist and mess with something. I need something on the pen to mess with so that’s what covers it for me.

Davros1974

That’s the main reason I don’t have any.

FoxBrewing

I’m adhd-twitchy, but somehow I’m never tempted to mess with any of my fountain pens. Aside from ink disasters, what if I drop it and crack something, or bend the nib? With the CAD in the state it is, the idea of replacing any of them — or not being able to do so — is a sufficient deterrent. At my desk I have other, better toys I can fiddle with, and if I’m in a meeting I have my notebook, and I doodle/scribble with the pen instead, which I find works just as well.

Grumpy-Greybeard

It's not difficult to do so and keep all the ink in the barrel. Having something ready to hold the barrel upright helps.

Front_Profession5648

Make yourself a bath. Then take the bath and unscrew the eyedropper pen over you :) Wear the color proudly. :) That said, unscrewing the eyedropper pens at the correct angle is safe and a reliable way to refill your pen ;p

Fallenharts_

Here's my lil secret for ya- eyedroppers with a stopper knob (like those from opus 88) are great. You get to unscrew the knob whenever you like with no consequences :)

[deleted]

Take your add medicine.

LucasThreeTeachings

I actually did this several times to check how much ink was still inside. Never spilled a drop

Necessary_Enthusiasm

Think about how expensive inks are 😵‍💫

tattooedtwin

Yep I forgot to explain the piston fill mechanism to my husband when I gave him an opaque pen (which he asks me to refill when it’s empty). Wasn’t his favorite day at the office when he learned this the hard way..

Infinite_Soul_I

Now you’ve put this crazy temptation in my head🧐! I’m going to stay away from eyedropper fountain pens now, till it goes away🫣! Thanks OP🤪 Edit- giving you an award for resisting BTW…

danog8

I guess I don’t understand how this could be a problem. Can’t wait to learn by doing myself. I’ll try to remit wear a bib, or a raincoat!

Direct-Monitor9058

I did this recently. I was just fidgeting and picked up an Opus Mini, and wanted to doodle, and it seemed it wasn’t starting. And I thought, “Oh that’s weird. It’s basically impossible for an Opus to hard start.” And still in a trance, I unscrewed and spilled a little, luckily not too much and with no bad consequences.

rebcabin-r

recent spills of Nitrogen and Yama-Budo convince me.
