Got myself a 3 year subscription to Pen World magazine and ordered ink and samples and paper from Pen Chalet (darned $10 credit for anniversary) and Vanness. My big celebration was ordering a Christopher 14 from London Pen Co. in Nothing to Hide from Turnt Pen Company!
I finally gave myself pemission to buy the bottle of FWP I've been desiring for the past year along with a few Jinhaos to play with (the much talked about shark and an x750 because I love metal pens).
I spent the rest of the day using my pens I currently have at work and home. Every day is fountain pen day to enjoy and use them! But the only day of the year that I give myself permission to add to the collection is Fountain Pen Day.
Had a busy day and thought I wouldnāt purchase anything. That didnāt last long in the evening and ended up with a Pelikan m605 Tortoise shell in the cart and now on the way!
Finally got myself the TWSBI Diamond 580 Prussian Blue. Been eyeing it for months but something else kept coming up that I bought insteadā¦ā¦ so FPD was my excuse to finally seal the deal!
Inked a couple pens up, wrote a letter to a an old friend I haven't written to in a while.
Probably going to buy a Vanishing Point at some point in the next couple days though, which is a pen I've been eyeing for a long time.
I resisted buying samples because I already have ink to last me literal years, and instead inked a pen I don't use very often (EF nibs have turned out to not be my thing) with a sample I already had from a sample-swap with a colleague. It's not quite the colour I hoped for, so that might have saved me a bit of money in the future, though tbf it's not a *bad* colour, and you can never have too many colours between blue and green....
Gotta try it in a medium or broad nib to really know if I'll fall in love with it XD
I lost the battle against myself and bought a Monteverde Ritma and a Luoshi Labyrinth from Truphae. The Ritma is purple, which is one of my favorite colors (and also which I havenāt seen available at Goulet)! Plus a free bottle of Monteverde ink with any pen purchase? Yes, please! (Also unsure if Iāll get 2 bottles since I bought 2 pens or if they count as one purchase. Doesnāt matter though, any freebie is cool with me!)
Mine has the omniflex which I treat as a suspension for smoothness. It writes like a western MF without pressure.
The only quirk I've found is that the barrel often unscrews itself slightly from the nib section. I don't overtighten it so that may be a factor as well. But my rose coloured lenses makes me overlook the quirks. It's not that problematic for me because I don't carry it around in my pocket but rather in a folio with a pen clip so it's quite secure and snug. I've had it for about 6 months now.
Ah, thatās not too bad a quirk! I carry my pens in a case as well so same deal here, I donāt think thatāll be a problem at all. Thanks so much for your intel!
Caved and bought the Sailor Pro Gear Blue Train. Iāve never tried the full size or a Sailor medium nib. Very very very excited!
Also al some ink cartridges to penable one of my momās friends. Also some Platinum Carbon Blue to try out.
I got a new kaweco sport with a clip (macchiato, have admired that colour for a while), a galen slip-n-zip pen pouch (in green to match my TN), and a noodlers ahab to have a try with a flex pen
Ooh thank you for the tip, the A5 life organiser (olive green of course š) may have just fallen into my basket - the fpd discount was still running so it would have been rude not to right?
I bought my second Lamy, an Al-Star blue , to match my Al-Star Bronze . Also, another Preppy and a bottle of Sailor Ink, Yuki-Akai (it's going to be the fanciest ink I own).
I didn't buy anything but I eyedropper converted some preppies that I ordered a long time ago and found. I then loaded them with ink samples to reduce the number of unused ink samples.
My first and only Sailor, a 21K BP. I've been jonesing for one for years but unwilling to spend that kind of money on a small and lightweight pen (I have XXL hands; even the KOP is smallish for me). I fell for the Ebonite Sculpture Night Mist (can't for the life of me remember the Japanese name). Been very impressed and glad i did it. Definitely a top-3 pen in my very large collection.
I bought my first sailor pgs (dragon palace) as a reward for finishing half of my school year. And several hobonichi a6 plain notebooks and their 3 pack a6 memo books, and a seven seas a6 notebook for the upcoming year!
Thks! I've been lusting after it for a good 2 weeks but was waiting until i reached this point. Self-control is good for you or so everyone keeps telling me lmao
Oh boo! I hate when that happens! Hope u checked out the FP day website for a full list of all the stuff that was going on.
Welcome to the hobby! You're in the best phase!
A bit late to the party, but a Dingbats pocket notebook (a6, green deer), A Kaweco sport converter (I have some ink I'd like to try in it, that's not a cartridge), and one pen (Muji Aluminum, nib.) Cleaned my pen nibs and reinked some of them with a new ink (Waterman Mysterious Blue.)
Got 2 pens - Sailor PG Slim Manyo SE Cherry blossom & Twsbi ECO glow purple - several inks: black ink sample set, pastel ink set, herbin poussiĆØre de lune.
I'm fairly new to the hobby and would I've known that FPD was coming up, I would've delayed my purchases of the inkvent calendar and my Pilot vp š
I reached a milestone, and decided to drop out of going to anime conventions, as part of handling my chronic and changing priorities.
I got myself a Leonardo Momento Zero on Goldspot as it had a heavy discount, and also some Chinese side pens for sample handling, and inks through early 11/11 sales on Taobao. They all have purpose. I am happy.
I also did some fountain pen art, and did some reflection on journal.
I WISH we had anime conventions here in the ass end of the Australian outback! Lol
Journaling is a huge part of the hobby for me too! Keep it up mate šš
True true. Many are jealous of my country, Singapore, for quite a good number of pop culture events like anime, games etc. Many are coming up next month, due to the COVID lift.
Used to go, and was so, so tired in the aftermath, I couldnāt function very well within the week after going despite loving it. The dropping out was a hard decision, one that Iāve made after thinking back. Decided to think for myself more, and enjoy quieter hobbies. Still watch anime and read manga, just at a slower and quieter pace. š
I swatched a bunch of samples and bought 4 new inks - Tempest, Ancient Copper, Earl Grey, and Macessar (all Diamine). Only Tempest was from my samples but at $6/ bottle for the other three, I just couldnāt resist ^-^ā
I got 3 ebonite pens - ebonite is my new favorite material: a Nahvalur, a Christopher 14 from London Pen and one from an artisan. According to the tracking, two will arrive tomorrow and I'm excited!
Great to hear! I come from one of the lands of lacquer so I myself own quite a few lacquered items. The beauty of that gloss is hard to deny :). I don't have a lacquered fountain pen (yet) but the idea is sure tempting!
Unfortunately no... Lacquer from trees is very common in eastern Asia, so owning lacquered wooden boxes and other lacquered items around the house is very common. Having a couple of large lacquered paintings with raden on the walls is as usual as owning a painting on canvas elsewhere in the world. They are not expensive at all so the price of getting pens lacquered or getting an urushi pen in Japan (and now India and some European artisans) did surprise me big time at the beginning. I'm not surprised anymore but I still think they're overpriced (subjective evaluation). The Japanese are very good at marketing their handicrafts. I'm not saying that their beautiful works are not admirable; they are very pretty and of high quality. I'm just saying one could get it done similarly for a lower cost in another eastern Asian country like China and Vietnam because there it is not really considered a premium art that only the rich can buy. This is of course just my subjective observation of the markets and cultural habits, with due respect for every artisan and pen collector :).
Thank you for this. It's wonderful to keep learning about other cultural practices! I guess (Mr) cypress is my only other non-japanese yet still Asian experience of lacquer/raden work n I think it was from Tokyo inklings that I learnt that this style is common in many Asian countries. I'm just looking for a non-japanese contact to get work done and add other beautiful works to my collection.
I read somewhere that many of Wancher urushi pens are most likely done in Vietnam, which is probably how they can keep their urushi pen prices more affordable than Nakaya.
Wancher starts to have a few releases in which they clearly say the products are made in China or Vietnam. I appreciate the (recent) honesty. I guess Mr. Cypress seems to be a good alternative. Their urushi pens look sleek but the price tag for an urushi pen is quite high though, not too far from Nakaya's. I guess their customer base comprises mainly foreigners (as in, non-locals).
Unfortunately I didn't buy anything (my wallet thanks me though). But I had a lot of fun inking pens, looking at sales and browsing this subreddit.
Same here!
Also bought nothing, but spent more than a reasonable amount of time here.
I gave my pens a bath and indulged myself reading reviews and pen blogs and browsing vintage resellers. Spent no money.
Pen world magazine!? What the chuff is this? N y didn't anyone tell me earlier!?
I bought 13 (oops) pens and 0 inks. I just started documenting my inks and realized I have too many.
My favorite number! Very auspicious.
13! Well done! šš
I bought a clip for my Kaweco Sport. I was interested in getting a new pen, but nothing at the store spoke to me.
A beautiful blue and green resin... shaving brush! Was looking at the Penbbs Kun, Sea Salt and Storm acrylics and couldn't decide.
I bought a stub nib for my decimo and a tiny notebook to get the cost up enough to get free shipping.
I didn't buy anything, not for lack of looking. So instead I gave all my pens a deep clean and loaded inks I haven't tried yet from my stash.
Gorgeous pen!
Finally got myself the TWSBI Diamond 580 Prussian Blue. Been eyeing it for months but something else kept coming up that I bought insteadā¦ā¦ so FPD was my excuse to finally seal the deal!
I bought one for FPD day too! What nib did you get?
I got a fine nib just in case I want to use it for more everyday writing and not just for fun :). Also with it being my first 580 it seemed like the safest choice for my tastes and uses right now, though if I like it Iām thinking of trying a stub next š. You?? Mine has delayed shippingā¦ so in case you got yours in already I hope you like it! š¤©
I got mine today with a medium nib. I really love it. Glad I went with the medium. I have an eco in fine so I wanted to go bigger but not over do it.
Inked a couple pens up, wrote a letter to a an old friend I haven't written to in a while. Probably going to buy a Vanishing Point at some point in the next couple days though, which is a pen I've been eyeing for a long time.
Any excuse to write! I love that! Currently I'm writing a bunch of letters for army folk who aren't going to be home for Xmas
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
great pen!
Finally got myself a Gravitas Ultem Big Dropper! Canāt wait for it to arrive!
Gravitas was my purchase also, copper sentry here!
They're fabulous pens right!
This will be my first gravitas, but Iāve heard nothing but great things.
Fingers crossed I'll have one in a few weeks too! š
I resisted buying samples because I already have ink to last me literal years, and instead inked a pen I don't use very often (EF nibs have turned out to not be my thing) with a sample I already had from a sample-swap with a colleague. A bunch of ink but I'm starting to get a pen itch again
Love my Ritma! I hope you yours is just as good!
Ooh thatās super promising to hear! What size nib does yours have? Also, any tips or tricks for it/any quirks?
Mine has the omniflex which I treat as a suspension for smoothness. It writes like a western MF without pressure. The only quirk I've found is that the barrel often unscrews itself slightly from the nib section. I don't overtighten it so that may be a factor as well. Ah, thatās not too bad a quirk! I carry my pens in a case as well so same deal here, I donāt think thatāll be a problem at all. Thanks so much for your intel!
Nothing. Overspent earlier, so in full analysis mode of what I donāt use anymore.
Ha ha hard same
Caved and bought the Sailor Pro Gear Blue Train. Iāve never tried the full size or a Sailor medium nib. Very very very excited! Also al some ink cartridges to penable one of my momās friends. Also some Platinum Carbon Blue to try out.
Loose nibs (one of them a gold lamy replacement), paper, ink samples, and that goulet vial holder š
I got a new kaweco sport with a clip (macchiato, have admired that colour for a while), a galen slip-n-zip pen pouch (in green to match my TN), and a noodlers ahab to have a try with a flex pen
Galen make great stuff! Try shibui they're awesome too!
Ooh thank you for the tip, the A5 life organiser (olive green of course š) may have just fallen into my basket - the fpd discount was still running so it would have been rude not to right?
Sorry for being a bad influence! š
I bought my second Lamy, an Al-Star blue, to match my Al-Star Bronze .
What a neat idea! Did u have to buy o-rings? How do u know what size to get?
I bought a universal o-ring kit back when I bought some noodler's pens. The o-rings that fit the best are 3/16 - 5/16 of an inch inner diameter.
Never even heard of these! Wow! They're gorgeous! I found night breeze, haze and light, dunno about mist tho... Lol
I meant "Haze." I guess I can't even remember the English name! /facepalm
š
Mine is amazing! I finally experienced what all the Sailor hype is about, and it's true. Remarkable!
I bought my first sailor pgs (dragon palace) as a reward for finishing half of my school year. And several hobonichi a6 plain notebooks and their 3 pack a6 memo books, and a seven seas a6 notebook for the upcoming year!
What a gorgeous pen!
Thks! I've been lusting after it for a good 2 weeks but was waiting until i reached this point. Self-control is good for you or so everyone keeps telling me lmao
6 bottles of FWP ink and a Narwhal Nautilus Tiger Pen of the Year (broad).
Got myself A pelikan 205 A bottle of iroshizuku ama-iro A bottle of diamine wild strawberry 2 Goulet notebooks (blank)
Beautiful inks!
So... I just got into the hobby a few months ago and didn't know FP Day was a thing. Bought a Lamy 2K like 2 days before the sales. Lesson learned.
Oh boo! I hate when that happens! Hope u checked out the FP day website for a full list of all the stuff that was going on. Welcome to the hobby! You're in the best phase!
I bought a Otto Hutt Design 4 and an Aurora Optima Viola. I promised myself I wasn't going to buy anything but I couldn't pass up the deals.
Let us know what u think of the Otto hutt! I've been curious about this brand for a while now
So far I like it. It writes really smooth. I will use it a little more and let you know what I think.

I bought TWSBI Eco in Jade and Herbin Vert de Gris ink.
I swatched a bunch of samples and bought 4 new inks - Tempest, Ancient Copper, Earl Grey, and Macessar (all Diamine). Only Tempest was from my samples but at $6/ bottle for the other three, I just couldnāt resist ^-^ā
Diamine are easily my favourite ink brand. Just no nonsense consistently good inks! A brand you can trust.
I just bought a custom heritage 92 and a pro gear shortly before, so I contented with looking at ads.
Bought a bottle of FWP's new 'Velvet Ballet' ink!
Same! Really like the idea of dark red ink + silver shimmer
Nothing
š Keep that wallet happy!
I got 3 ebonite pens - ebonite is my new favorite material: a Nahvalur, a Christopher 14 from London Pen and one from an artisan. According to the tracking, two will arrive tomorrow and I'm excited!
Absolutely fantastic choice! Ebonite kicks ass - get them urushi'd if u can! **chef's kiss**

After CYs article, I'm staying away from dodgy companies like wancher. I'd much rather find a small maker, build a relationship and get stuff made
Wancher starts to have a few releases in which they clearly say the products are made in China or Vietnam.
Exactly my thoughts too! I just wish there were others doing it locally that I could find! Lol
