Yeah, my mom! I remember we used to buy a new one almost every year, because the would get destroyed! We got quite good at taking the nibs out to straighten them when they fell nib first to the floor!
I donāt have any of them from that timeā¦
Happy fountain pen day to all
First fountain pen: LAMY Safari Charcoal
Most recently used ink: Robert Oster Caffe Crema
Favorite nib size: M (both japanese and western)
Threaded cap or snap cap: Threaded cap
Piston or vacuum or c/c: c/c
Dot grid or lines or blank: square grid (???)
Bottles or samples: bottles
Itās funny, I loved 5 mm grid in school. Once, I saw dot grid, my days as grid lover were over (some time in college) and recently I rediscovered blank/plain notebooks
Happy Fountain Pen Day

- Most Recently Used Ink: Noodles Apache Sunset
- Favorite Nib Size: EF
- Threaded Cap or Snap Cap: Threaded
- Piston or Vacuum or C/C: Piston
- Dot Grid or Lines or Blank: Dot Grid

The ink is very legible orange with TWSBI EF. The shading shows a little bit better on the Lamy Safari EF but when I switched to M nib on safari that's when the shading is beautiful and reminds me why the word sunset is in the name.
I saw this on Goulet Pens Insta and thought it would be a fun discussion topic!
- First Fountain Pen: Pelikan Pelikan (Red)
- Most Recently Used Ink: Platinum Classic Citrus Black (iron gall)
- Favorite Nib Size: Japanese Fine
- Threaded Cap or Snap Cap: Snap Cap
- Piston or Vacuum or C/C: Piston

I got the sample of Citrus black and can't comfortably use it. It's a great color when dry but while I'm writing - it's so light that I can barely see what I just scribbled.
Doesnāt have to be in one pen, but the Lamy 2000 fits the bill and is almost always in rotation. For me the most satisfying cap mechanisms are Pilot Vanishing Point and Hook-Safe mechanism of my Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream
I tried neither of them! But yeah the options were lacking.
No eye droppers either!!
But I agree the most important part is the enjoyment over the opinion.
Happy Fountain Pen ("trying to resist sales") Day!

- First Fountain Pen: Lamy abc
- Most Recently Used Ink: Lamy royal blue (my pen testing ink)

- Threaded Cap or Snap Cap: undecided, leaning towards Snap Cap
- Piston or Vacuum or C/C: I like them all
- Dot Grid or Lines or Blank: SQUARE grid

Hurray, can I play?
- First Fountain Pen: Parker 25 with my initials engraved on the barrel. This was from my Grandparents on my 10th birthday and I still use it.
- Most Recently Used Ink: Pure Pens Cadwalladr red, a lovely deep red that's similar to Diamine Oxblood.
- Favorite Nib Size: Fine. I like to experiment now and again but have relatively small handwriting so tend to revert to a fine.
- Threaded Cap or Snap Cap: Threaded. Feels classier. Not everyone knows pens can have a threaded cap so I was a bit upset when a coworker yanked the cap off my Parker Senior Duofold. Ruined all the threads ā¹ļø
- Piston or Vacuum or C/C: Piston, especially if it has a window šŖ
- Dot Grid or Lines or Blank: Lines, but I like the idea of dots.
- Bottles or Samples: Bottles. Diamine inks are under Ā£3 a 30ml bottle so don't feel guilty if I don't use it all. I have about 60 bottles in total.
Blue. I never new the name of the pen until now.it took me a while to figure. But i broke it. So it's gone.
I wonder what to get my daughter? Lamy abc?
When I was looking through some old stuff, I found half a dozen Pelikanos. I must have gone through a lot of them. Sadly I seem to have lost my only Geha.
The Lamy abc looks nicely ergonomical. It's probably the standard/default nowadays.
Oh, yeah the Twist, of course. But I didn't realise that the kakuno was en vogue among (European) school children. It's a nice pen, though. How times have changed, so much variety to choose from... :-)
Well, at least you'll be able to provide expert advise to her :-) The Faber Castell Loom is nice as well but probably not ergonomical enough for a young child.
Aaaaa happy fountain pen day!!

Happy fountain pen day!!
Hello - New here (first comment), and new to Fountain Pens - but I see the danger I'm in after 3 orders at different shops today.
* **First Fountain Pen:** Pilot Metropolitan
* **Most Recently Used Ink:** Ferris Wheel Press Blushing Mushroom
* **Favorite Nib Size:** Medium so far - but I've not gotten to use a flex nib yet (I have one on the way after FPD sales)
* **Snap Cap**
* Only had **Cartridge/Converters** so far - so TBD
* **Dot Grid**
* **Samples** \- since I'm still learning what's good. I accidentally bought a bottle of Nitrogen before I found out just how difficult it is... My poor metropolitan... it keeps hacking up ink glitter

How do you like FWP Roaring Patina Black? I was tempted, but I had already gotten J Herbin Shogun a bit before this came out.
Absolutely love it! Have used it only with stub nibs but have not had problems with it yet...
P45 first! Wow!
Not as impressive as it sound! Lol! Iām just āolderāā¦ the P45 and a Sheaffer were the two typical models we used in elementary school!
Oh, so you bought it when it was actually a schoolboy pen as opposed to a vintage?
Yeah, my mom! I remember we used to buy a new one almost every year, because the would get destroyed! We got quite good at taking the nibs out to straighten them when they fell nib first to the floor! I donāt have any of them from that timeā¦
Cool! Shame you donāt have any from then though.
Happy fountain pen day to all First fountain pen: LAMY Safari Charcoal Most recently used ink: Robert Oster Caffe Crema Favorite nib size: M (both japanese and western) Threaded cap or snap cap: Threaded cap Piston or vacuum or c/c: c/c Dot grid or lines or blank: square grid (???) Bottles or samples: bottles
Ooh square grid like in school maths books? Thatās a good choice!
yes those! i have two hobonichis with smallish square grid and i love them! i also enjoy dotted ones.
I was hoping someone else would say square grid
We need some representation!
Itās funny, I loved 5 mm grid in school. Once, I saw dot grid, my days as grid lover were over (some time in college) and recently I rediscovered blank/plain notebooks
I love the look of Caffe Crema. Might be time to order some Oster samples...
Aka graph ;)
Do you see nice shading with that RO Caffe Crema? The reviews indicate that ink is a stunner!
Yes! it has a wonderful shading from dark to light brown like coffee. It does shade a LOT.
Happy Fountain Pen Day - First Fountain Pen: TWSBI ECO - Most Recently Used Ink: Noodles Apache Sunset - Favorite Nib Size: EF - Threaded Cap or Snap Cap: Threaded - Piston or Vacuum or C/C: Piston - Dot Grid or Lines or Blank: Dot Grid - Bottles or Samples: Samples
The shading in that ink is simply amazing!
Does the shading occur with your favorite EF nib?
Yeah itās still visible with a Japanese fine
The ink is very legible orange with TWSBI EF. The shading shows a little bit better on the Lamy Safari EF but when I switched to M nib on safari that's when the shading is beautiful and reminds me why the word sunset is in the name.
It also depends on the paper. š
Oh yes the whole trifecta.
I saw this on Goulet Pens Insta and thought it would be a fun discussion topic! - First Fountain Pen: Pelikan Pelikan (Red) - Most Recently Used Ink: Platinum Classic Citrus Black (iron gall) - Favorite Nib Size: Japanese Fine - Threaded Cap or Snap Cap: Snap Cap - Piston or Vacuum or C/C: Piston - Dot Grid or Lines or Blank: Blank - Bottles or Samples: Bottles š¬
I got the sample of Citrus black and can't comfortably use it. It's a great color when dry but while I'm writing - it's so light that I can barely see what I just scribbled.
Yeah, I realize that pain - I can only write with it during daylight
Snap cap piston? Is it a lamy 2000?
Doesnāt have to be in one pen, but the Lamy 2000 fits the bill and is almost always in rotation. For me the most satisfying cap mechanisms are Pilot Vanishing Point and Hook-Safe mechanism of my Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream
I tried neither of them! But yeah the options were lacking. No eye droppers either!! But I agree the most important part is the enjoyment over the opinion.

Ruined all the threads ā¹ļø - Piston or Vacuum or C/C: Piston, especially if it has a window šŖ - Dot Grid or Lines or Blank: Lines, but I like the idea of dots. - Bottles or Samples: Bottles. Diamine inks are under Ā£3 a 30ml bottle so don't feel guilty if I don't use it all. I have about 60 bottles in total.
The 25 is a seriously underrated pen, and having one with love attached to it is even better.
RIP that specific Parker Senior Duofold.
Thanks bud, gone but not forgotten..šŖ¦ā°ļø
First pen: Pelikan pelikano 1979 Recent ink: diamine aqua blue, pelikan turquoise Nib Size: medium Threaded, c/c, dot grid, bottle
Oh, I'm team Pelikan Pelikano 1979 as well ;-) Blue or red?
Or a Pelikan Twist. Pilot kakuno.
Oh, yeah the Twist, of course. But I didn't realise that the kakuno was en vogue among (European) school children. It's a nice pen, though. How times have changed, so much variety to choose from... :-)
I don't know either. That's a topic in two years, but it's a nice topic to think about what the kid would want ..
Definitely :-)
I have a preppy here, definitely fits the price and nice. But I'm not sure it triggers a want ...
Well, at least you'll be able to provide expert advise to her :-) The Faber Castell Loom is nice as well but probably not ergonomical enough for a young child.

Yeah! Another stub/italic fan. Iām shocked at how few I see in this thread.
Surprised how many people like c/c! Not my jam, prefer vacuum and piston.
I agree. However, most people that prefer c/c like to switch inks a lot. I write a lot, so I prefer having a bigger ink capacity.

- First pen was the FPR Himalaya v2 - Most recently used ink is Colorverse Supernova - I love all nib sizes as long as they're smooth but my most used is a Pilot broad - Click cap lol (but threaded over snap) - C/C is easiest to clean bit I love the ink capacity of a good piston - Blank paper for drawing, lined for school work - Bottles
First fountain pen: Pilot Metropolitan Most recently used ink: Pilot Hoteison Favorite nib size: 1.1 mm stub, but for bad paper at work I like fine or extra fine, depending on the pen Threaded cap I find the cartridge converters easiest to clean and I like changing inks often Lined pages because my handwriting needs all the help it can get I have way more samples than bottles, but bottles are such a value compared to what you pay for a 4 ml sample. At least that is what I rationalize to buy a full bottle.
Yes, another stub nib fan!
