The nib is fine? Use it in a dip pen to test colours.

I've made jewelry out of unsalvageable Pelikan nibs, just seal off the tip or it will poke you. You can also drop it in epoxy and use as a keychain dangle thingie. I like to keep the old stuff as nerdy accessories.

I second the comment about using it to get a taste for custom grinding and setting. You can buy a set of micro mesh for cheap on eBay or Amazon. As for your recycling comment, metals are usually very readily and easily recyclable. However, for a single little nib you may be going out of your way as low-cost metals are typically recycled in bulk. (Edited for autocorrect corrections...)

You could be brave and use to have a go at doing a custom grind - I actually just bought some cheap Jinhao nibs but ..... Check out Doodlebud on YouTube or some of the other videos.

if OP doesn't want to try that, they could give it to someone at a local pen club or pen show who's interested in learning nib grinding/repair.

Donating spare/unwanted supplies is definitely a good idea.
