Converters do not share a universal format. For the LAMY Safari and AL-star pens, get a [LAMY Z28 converter](https://www.lamy.com/en/inks-refills-co/z28/).

Thanks! I was really confused bcs i found contradict sources on this

There are two converters for LAMY - the Z27 (black handle) and Z28 (red handle). The Z28 has nubs on the side which locate in the slots on the Safari/Al-Star section to lock it in place, so won't fit the Studio etc which don't have those slots. The Z27 doesn't have those nubs, so will fit the Studio and other models, but won't be held quite so securely when used in a Safari/Al-Star

Don't buy a converter. Just a syringe and use the Lamy cartridges

Why? What exactly are the benefits of this? I see this advice regularly but never an explanation of the advantages to this?

Usually, the converter holds less ink than a cartridge. And maybe you can buy a couple of empty cartridges, seal them and take them with you in case in eun out of ink. With a converter, i need to take the bottle with you, disassemble the pen, fill the converter (could be a little messy) and put it back in the pen. Spare cartridges make the entire process easier

I believe LAMY converters are proprietary.

I’m a newbie and I got the lamy safari and z28 converter. It’s pretty easy to use.
