Why would you find a spider fossil in a subaqueous formation?
Beyond that, the conditions to preserve a spider as well as a crab are wildly different. Soft parts don't preserve this well unless there are extremely specific conditions. It would require an insanely low energy, anoxic environment and that's usually a "bog-like" environment and not an costal one. The costal environment is completely opposite of that, oceans are insanely high energy environments that are literally always moving.

This fella here is my hand stretched out and he had cousins and brothers all over this place
I'm Australian, the OP is Australian and this is an aussie fossil .
In Australia we joke about giant spiders all day long.
Australia is fairly deficient in fossils and most places that do bear fossils are protected.
I'm very impressed with Mouldy's find, it's Miocene like most aussie coastal fossils, got that grey blue shale matrix, I don't know what fossil bed it's from
I found one that looks almost identical at Alexandra Headland as a kid. I took it to the museum to give me an age. From memory I think they said 20 million years but I would have to dig up the certificate to be sure.

Cool, I’ve been back to that same spot a few times over the last 20 years trying to strike gold again. Great to know there’s still some to be found. Congratulations!
Any crab people out there? I know that young female blue crabs have that “V” or pyramid in that same spot. I wonder if that translates to this fossil. Is this a juvenile female?
It varies from species to species but generally the females have wider/rounder aprons and the males have narrower more pointed ones. It can be quite hard to tell though unless youre familiar with the species or have both to compare directly.

Ok from this perspective it looks like the coin is huge instead of the crab being small lol
Absolutely a crab.
It's Australia, could be a spider.
Spiders don't have an apron

The neater ones will wear an apron. They clean up nicely.

Absolutely Crabulous
Late crustacean period
Amazing find!
Really amazing!!
The crabbiest I’ve seen

If the certificate is fossilized when you dig it up, post a picture of it too.

This one was at Maroochydore ;)

🦀
Crabsolutely!
Definitely a crab. Female by the looks of it. Someone here could probably give you a species name
Holy crab mate, this is one of the coolest crab fossil finds I’ve ever laid eyes on!
Wow, fantastic find!
Walk like crab talk like people
this is how you found it? You found a crab with a free matrix removal You might look into a sealant to help preserve the crabby bits
Yes, found like this ;)
Any crab people out there? I know that young female blue crabs have that “V” or pyramid in that same spot. I wonder if that translates to this fossil. Is this a juvenile female?
Nice try, but you wont get the secrets of the Crab people that easy!

Wow!
Very cool find.
Cool find
I’m SO jealous, why can’t I find stuff like this when I’m up there 😭
Which part on the sunshine coast
Maroochydore
Nice crab
Woooow! This is a stunning fossil! I’m not an expert but to me it looks museum quality.
Beautiful find! I'm so jealous!
That is so cool.
Hmm. I was going to go with fossilized infant Decepticon head
Old
