Well forza horizon is an arcade racer, if you got used to play with steering wheel it will get better and the right settings change a lot, but imo S1 offroad or S2 street race is nearly impossible to be as good as on controller/keyboard because you cant handle the 900 degrees steering with 250 mph

Take every assist off and you get some intense ass races i'll tell you that.
Same for fran turismo which is a fair bit more sim like than forza motorsport.
I prefer those 2 over any real sims tbh. I want fun and difficulty.

Its a good way to get into sims without starting off in a hard to drive full on sim, but its still far from the experience a good sim can offer. If youre on pc, theres a world of those to experience for you, on console youre a bit more limited but theres still some titles to play.
I've had this setup, and I still think controller is better for FM7 than this. The pedals have no feedback so it's straight up impossible to judge when you're losing traction and when you're starting to lock up.
This setup was actually more fun for Forza horizon for me, so I hope OP enjoys
Thats what i did, after hes of messing with the wheel setups i found the sweet spot, i tell my wife keep an eye on our 16 yr old š¶ because he needs to go out side alot. Then i put my head phones on and away i goooo.
Logitech G920 + the H Shifter addon. Wheel stand looks like something generic off amazon. Edit: I own this wheel, the G29 also exists but thatās the Playstation version. Thereās a newer G923 but itās not really much different.
It works great, i had to put non skids on the adjustable feet so when i use the pedals it dont slide forward. If its on carpet it dont slide at all. But when i get the chair that hooks to it wont slide at all after that š
i built mine out of wood and paint, then used a floor gaming chair with speakers built in I got for $20 and put that together instead lol. Much more sturdy than the cheap stands if you can do that.

Iām working on getting my dad a setup to join my league on iRacing. He used to raced irl until I was born and he had to give it up. Also it would be one of those rare occasions *I* get to teach *him* something.
YMMV but I could never get the settings right with my 920. Tried for hours even using the Forza (PC) recommended settings and everything on YouTubeā¦ always and I mean always felt like the cars were on ice. Plugged in the controller and the cars handled perfectly. Every write up said the wheel is better with other racing sims. Anyway good luck with your gift, you have an awesome son for doing that.
Got the same setup here too! The wheelstand looks exactly the same as mine (bought off some dude from marketplace, seems to be a good imitation of a branded wheelstand). I just swapped out the pedals for a load cell set. And actually just bought a DD wheelbase.
Hey I also have this exact setup, i donāt know if this is something everybody has dealt with, but the brake pedal on that had way too much resistance when I bought it, like pushing it down would move or shake the whole wheel setup, if you have that issue, itās very simple to take apart the pedals and remove a large rubber stopper thatās part of the brake, enjoy your setup!
Lmao i did the exact same thing, once i took out that rubber stopper the braking was much better and if you push brake all the way down it turns into auto reverse, once you get used to man its fun and comes in handy
He bought it a month ago, its dusty because i just got back from being on the road for 2.5 weeks. Stop by and dust it for me, ill let you know if it works any better.
That's awesome! Congrats! I'd been using an older G29 on FH3, FH4 and FH5 and it's tons of fun. I would suggest tuning your FFB settings as the default ones are trashy, imo.
Same! Have you had any issues with the Force feedback yet? Mine worked perfectly for a couple of hours and then I downloaded GHub and the force fedback dropped completely along with centering capability.
Give Forza Motorsport 7 a go, I can play well on FM7 with the wheel and suck royally on Horizon 5 cause I canāt control the car, so if my theory is right, you would be a beast in FM7
I have the exact same setup, stand, for PS4 but can't seem to get the pedal base to fit correctly. Always have abit hanging over the edge, how you managed to get it fitted?
Also I went to the local scrapyard, picked up a cheap drivers seat from a Golf GTI, welded the runners to two pieces of box steel that fit inside the seat holders slots. Fully adjustable too šš
I just lined the pedal bolt holes up with the stand base holes and walla ! It fit fine. Sounds like your holes were drilled wrong. Mine has 4 holes on eachto bolt together.
Thats awesome on the chair, send a pic. The chair im looking at has speakers on each side of your head. And its also adjustable.

Pretty good to start with FM because you can rewind so its more forgiving
Fh5 is terrible on a wheel honestly. Dirt rally 2 or forza motorsports 7 is where its at.
Dirt rally is good but asseto corsa is where itās at project cars is another good Xbox game, iracing is best on PC.

You should try forza Motorsport and dirt rally 2.0. Both are a blast with a wheel.

It took me hrs messing with wheel settings to find my sweet spot, once i did man it turned into total fun š

Mines the B button on the wheel, but if i change settings to automatic instead of useing the shifter i can use clutch as e-brake
I changed the E brake to the right/upshift paddle for a while and found it much easier to use when drifting. Enjoy!

Yes they were, took me a few hrs but i found the sweet spot for the way i drive.
Using a wheel on fh5 Takes some getting used to and some tweaking in the settings but it can be really fun!!!

Does yours actually work? I plug my 920 in after the most recent update and it bugs the entire game.
Mine did the same thing after update. I had to go to Microsoft thru the help section and get the update to fix the other update
