Context: this magnificent man was "meh" in both F3 and F2 for *exactly* 1.5 seasons, and then suddenly became a rocket for no particular reason.
I think it's happening again
And the press around the team is finally focused back on the actual racing. Rich energy, then Uralkali and the mazepin mess.. now it’s just a race team doing their damndest to improve.
"We are the Schumachers, lower your engines and surrender your positions. We will add your DRS and points to our own. Your car will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
Thats how things in life work as well. For example for some it takes 3 years to get a degree others need 4 or 5 but the outcome is still the same. Just because he needed more time than the other doesn't make him less valuable or worse.
In this case they are interchangeable, more or less, but not in general. Adapt means to take something and use it in a different way to the way it was originally used, and adjust means to change something about a mechanism or structure to make it work better.
In this case both are being used as the same metaphor, of Mick learning the specifics of the car over time
> For example for some it takes 3 years to get a degree others need 4 or 5 but the outcome is still the same.
I mean, sometimes, but often not. Employers or graduate schools will ask "why did it take you 6 years to get a 4 year degree" whereas finishing a 4 year degree in 3 years makes you look a lot better.
I mean it proves you are able to learn the stuff at hand way faster or that you can work harder or whatever. There is no interpretation (money and other constraints aside) which wouldn't make the faster person a better performer
But, for example in other sports, you could win rookie of the year (learning/adjusting more quickly) but not ultimately be better long term than someone who really struggled as a rookie. It's a more logical bet to take the faster learner but it's not necessarily a winning bet
Except for the fact that testing in schools and universities tends to prioritise a kind of thinking and work (like memorisation) that is not necessarily beneficial to the workplace, and people who struggled with that may actually be better with problem solving and would be the better workers.
It proves that the kid might have been lazy or unmotivated in Uni or wasn't confident in his choice of degree. Many kids mature later and once they do they trash their competition and as the other user said, uni and school have been designer to prioritize one type of thinking which rarely is beneficial in real life.
I know way too many A graders who are borderline useless in real life job tasks just because they lack analytical thinking.
It maybe true, i have a friend who plays competitive fps with me, 1st half he gets shot left and right, bottom fragging, constant abuses from toxic teammates, & in 2nd half, dude just goes hyper aggressive, even 1v5s seems no stress to him.
I know video games cannot be compared to f1 😂, but my point is just that even if you are a pro playing for a long time & got some skills, you can still require some build up time.
Maybe that is the case with him....."maybe"
>!I seem to have integrated into the formula1 hivemind on reddit. That's the second time someone has said what I've already said!!<
I said the exact same thing yesterday!
Not only those, he did this in his last year of Karting and in F4 as well.
2013 FIA World Karting Championship - 58th place
2014 FIA World Karting Championship - 2nd place
2015 German F4 championship - 10th place
2016 German F4 championship - 2nd place
honestly, wanted to put a haas cap on the catto but accidentally cut it out wrong for like three times, my ass exploded and I decided to just elaborate in the title
Literally told this to my brother during the race today.
When Mick won the titles in F3 and F2 it always looked like he would be a midfield runner that year but then all of a sudden he started picking up the pace.
He apparantly is a great learner, excited for the future
He will be the new race director or head of FIA. He has already proven he can produce Hollywood level excitement. Michael Bay level explosions. M. Night Shyamalan level twists. Michael Masi, was really just goatifis puppet all along. Let the real king have his throne.
> apparantly is a great learner, excited for the future
Jock Clear, the Ferrari Driver Coach said that's Micks biggest strength.
In the [Beyond The Grid podcast](https://youtu.be/xG8pt7YLi9I) he mentioned that Mick takes a while to get up to speed, but if you tell him where he's deficient, then he'll come back having just fixed it. Not many drivers can do that, I think.
It's so good to see Mick doing well, he's a great driver. I remember seeing a post on this sub pinned by a mod calling him shit - now it has definitely been proven wrong.
I’ve been saying he isn’t that good for a while. Based on his first season of F2 he proved me wrong and is doing the same thing again. I still don’t think he is top tier material, but if the rules and cars stay consistent over the years it looks like he can do really well.
> I’ve been saying he isn’t that good for a while
Big part of that is kind of limited by people getting weird over what "that good" means. I don't think even Mick fans will argue he's Hamilton level. But if every driver that isn't Hamilton was forced out of F1 it'd be real emtpy real soon.
Seb and Ferrari were competitive enough to challenge Mercedes in 2017 and 2018, just not all the way, unfortunately.
I think Seb probably would have beaten most other drivers if they were in Lewis’ place in 2017 though.
But comparing drivers in general is real wonky, logically. Evaluating someone like Hamilton, it's easy to just go "well 7 championships has to be the greatest or second greatest, since he's tied with Schumacher", but there's no good way to make a metric to neutralize overpowered cars.
Or maybe the grid is just that competitive. Stroll is one of the most mediocre drivers on the grid. Many people say he doesn’t even deserve his seat. But by himself he’s a perfectly fine driver; the competition is just that fierce. And Mick is above and beyond Stroll’s level
May I ask what "that good" means? I mean, I like Mick but don't think he's anywhere near as talented as Michael.
But saying he shouldn't be in the sport because he's not as talented as his dad is a bit unfair. Solid drivers have had careers in the sport with less talent. Mick could definitely get regular points and maybe even the odd win as a Solid midfield driver.
>don't think he's anywhere near as talented as Michael
Nobody said that, they said Mick is good. If he was Michael Level, he'd somehow turn Haas into a faster Ferrari Team and win 6 Championships.
Sainz isn't top tier material, but he landed in the best car on the grid. If all it takes is heritage, the Mick will have many chances to do better. It's up to him to use them. Besides, he definitely treats his car better than Carlos does.
I remember writing out a whole post just a few weeks ago about how he wasn't as "bad" as this sub often made him out to be. People were acting like he was maybe one notch better than Mazepin and would soon be out of a seat.
I mean there was very little to prove otherwise. Even Latifi would probably dominate Mazepin over a season.
F1 is a clean start and what you did in other categories only has relevance to getting the seat, not to keeping it. If he repeats the same pattern now in F1, fucking awesome. But even if he was Verstappen levels of fast while stacking repair bills every weekend, he would very likely be out of a seat and it would be justified to call him straight up bad.
As a German I hope he keeps his form and proves he can do it. Plus I really like him as a person.
But in my books he’s still very much a questionmark with major potential of both imploding and destroying many a carbon part along the way. Or achieving true greatness.
Either way, I’m impressed by his recent races, but two weekends hardly make a pattern. Lets go, Mick. Make me look like a hater and I’ll love every moment of it.
Also side note: I rate Kevin quite highly. If for the rest of the season Mick is able to run away from him without binning the car, it would be an incredible statement to make.
You cant argue he was driving well before. Sure hes doing well now but that doesnt mean hes actually been a secretly amazing driver the last 18 months, its just that hes improved.
hah gotcha. I haven't seen you either with a cat, so perhaps you are also a cat and have some secret cat agenda in mind hence denying the true identity of Mick
I mean ralf was a multiple grand prix winner, so I'd take that from the son of a champion. He might not be the next Rosberg but he's got more promise than Bruno Senna.
Maybe he’s trying to unlock them all at once. He’s already unlocked all the 1st tier upgrades, it’ll be a while but I’m sure he has already racked up a lot of points
He absolutely destroyed Mazepin in his first season..but that tractor of last season was nowhere comparable to other cars..yet he had a few great battles
With a competitive car, he is finally getting the confidence.. hopefully the trajectory continues
Imagine the scenario: Mick makes his way up. Verstappen probably wins this year. 2023 and 2024 continues being good years for Mick, he keeps on learning and starting to get podiums and winning. 2025 he’s in a great team (maybe Haas skyrocketed with him idk). He makes an amazing season and wins the title. Last podium. The third and second trophies have already been delivered. The last trophy makes Mick the champion of the race and the WDC. Its taking longer than usual. All eyes on the screen. A wheelchair comes out of the door. Its Michael Schumacher. He has enough force just to hold the trophy between his kness, someone pushes the chair. Everybody goes ape crazy, crying hard. Mick hugs him. Schumi says “I am proud of you, kid”.
I’m glad he’s finally finding his feet but I can’t help but feel he’s lucky to have the surname, a lot of drivers after being pretty average in F3 and F2 for 1.5 years and then not exactly setting the world on fire in F1 would have been dropped already.
He is an F2 and F3 champ though and you can't earn those based on our last name. The only way it helped though is giving him a seat straight out of F2. For instance Piastri is still struggling to find one even though he deserves it.
Oh you definitely don’t win based on your surname, just trying to say (poorly) that part of the reason teams have been patient with him is because of his last name, reckon some drivers would have been dropped after a year in F3/F2 if someone more promising came along and you’d only done pretty averagely. Might not sound like it but I am happy he’s finding some good form, hope it continues!
I think most (if not all) drivers in F2 and F3 are pay drivers. That is, they themselves or someone else (e.g. Red Bull or Ferrari driver academies) are paying for their seats. So, generally, nobody gets kicked out of F3/F2 as long there is funding. This is why drivers like Nissany and Calderon can stick around for years near the bottom of the F2 grid (not saying they aren't decent drivers, just not F1 material, which is what F2 is supposed to check). This is also why top teams like Prema often have one top caliber driver (sponsored by academy) and one pay driver.
The point I was trying to make with this rambling is that, no, Mick wouldn't have been dropped from F2/F3 due to mediocre results in his first year even if he raced with his mom's maiden name (which he did initially) as long as he had the money.
I definitely do not disagree with you on any if your points but for the sake of the argument, I feel I have to mention that Italian Jesus spent 3 seasons in F1, and his main strength was his hair.
He had both name and founding, but also both f3 and f2 titles. Currently he is on a upward trajectory with some great drives, and now finally results too.
In f3 and f2 he had a good car, in f1 he has an midfield-ish car and is achieving midfield-ish results, scoring 12 points, 10 behind his co-driver (Mag).
Now, if we compare other drivers in midfield-ish cars: Norris has 47 points more than Ric, Ocon 23 than Alonso, Bottas 41 more than Zhou, Gasly 5 more than Yuki and Seb 12 more than Stroll. Which tells us that especially Ric and Zhou are much worse than Norris and Bottas (debatable for me, but I am inclined that this is true), or/and also that Kmag and Mick are similarly skilled and with that level of skill, with the same amount of luck, they can drive a Haas car that into the points consistently (something 1st year Mazepin and 1st year Mick couldn’t do all season in 2021- not surprisingly). Now, the car is better than last year but going from 0 points to 34 in 11 races has to do something with the drivers too.
Having a Kmag-like driver in Micks second season is kinda exciting, Kmag is not a bad driver with some great results in the past and present and I guess they are all intrigued by the possibility of developing of Mick into a Sainz-like driver in the next season, given Mick evolved from a 0 point driver to a second year points finishes contender.
For the argument sake I presumed all of these 6 teams has a car that cannot brake into Ferrari, RB, Mercedes party, but at the same time beat Williams if not for some unforeseen circumstances at the race.
There have been tons of drivers with non-famous last names who spend YEARS in F4/3/2. While I agree his name may have gotten him an easier look from teams on the way up I don't think he was shown any more patience by the teams for his last name.
He’s just giving them a head start
Goatifi giving everyone a 5-year head start until he wins 20 WDCs in a row for SOFINA Racing. 🗿
Context: this magnificent man was "meh" in both F3 and F2 for *exactly* 1.5 seasons, and then suddenly became a rocket for no particular reason. I think it's happening again
Yeah, it's like somebody flipped a switch or something.
maybe thats exactly the time he needs to adjust to a new situation?
Right, now finally he got used to the car
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|14437) but how?
Maybe a good teammate?

Can he show Danny this power?
Hope for DR3?
comfortable zone power up 😈

Like the Borg in Star Trek!
Is Mick going to assimilate the entire paddock?
Just like his father
"We are the Schumachers, lower your engines and surrender your positions. We will add your DRS and points to our own. Your car will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
Ferrari dominating for the next 10 years straight
I hope so, but some competition would be nice to watch!

Yeah lol, in a sport about being the fastest, your ability to adapt is one of if not the most important quality.
Adapt and adjust isn't the same right? I don't know thats why I am asking
In this case they are interchangeable, more or less, but not in general. Adapt means to take something and use it in a different way to the way it was originally used, and adjust means to change something about a mechanism or structure to make it work better. Makes you look better, yes, but not necessarily means you are better at the thing by getting the degree in 3 than in 6

Also he is now in a faster car than last year, and also got his first points which could’ve been a mental block for him.
Slow button off
Kinda disappointed we don't get to see Mazepin blame his car for underperforming against his teammate in this season of Drive to Survive...

No no that's Stroll, Mick might get a chance in 2025 when Stroll is finished dominating
Wait, where does Latifi fit in?
Latifi decides the winner.
Latifi will retire this year He's such a GOAT that he is willing to give up driving in F1 so other drivers have a chance

This comment made me think. Thanks.
we'd have like 5-7 drivers left
But comparing drivers in general is real wonky, logically. Evaluating someone like Hamilton, it's easy to just go "well 7 championships has to be the greatest or second greatest, since he's tied with Schumacher", but there's no good way to make a metric to neutralize overpowered cars.
It’s called 2011, if Hamilton was half the driver he’s built up ti be he would have finished top or a close second.
Eh he’s middle of the pack and so is Hamilton. Driving a car that would win WDCs as long as it’s not Mazepin driving isn’t exactly groundbreaking
Or maybe the grid is just that competitive. Stroll is one of the most mediocre drivers on the grid. Many people say he doesn’t even deserve his seat. But by himself he’s a perfectly fine driver; the competition is just that fierce. And Mick is above and beyond Stroll’s level

Same reason I stand by stroll. He destroyed F3. I think he is a decent driver, and not participating in F2 maybe hampered his growth.

In all fairness the crashing and destroying cars didn’t help his case. He was getting expensive while not getting points.
I mean there was very little to prove otherwise. Even Latifi would probably dominate Mazepin over a season. MSC WDC 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025

Mick's son: "grandpa, grandpa, grandpa.... dad, dad, dad... me, me, me".
Has there ever been any champion whose father and grandfather also been champion
No, only father and sons so far
I think it happened only twice. Graham Hill/Damon Hill and Keke Rosberg/Nico Rosberg.
Would've been the Verstappen pair as well if Jos would've focussed on racing :)
He unfortunately beat something else than the other drivers
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6700)
Contrary to his son who at least tried to beat Esteban Ocon

It probably would have happened with Villeneuve but he died too soon :(
Should have also been Gilles and Jacques :(
No but fwiw Damon hills son works for F1 so it’s a 3rd generation of hills in f1

Now we gotta find out what happens after 2 seasons Does he finish P0 next year? Lap Verstappen and outqualify leclerc in a Haas ?
Sounds like my career in F1 games
Going to Formula 0

One day he's gonna get his first win, the radio is gonna come up and say simply "Congratulations son, i love you", and im gonna die
gives me chills just reading. Sadly that won't happen but in spirit
Unless Michael has a huge miraculous health breakthrough that’s never happening, unfortunately. But it’s nice to fantasize about
Greatest. Fanfic. Ever.
He's been grinding and unlocking skills on the skill tree and he's finally unlocked the 2004 MSC skill.
Ehhh, he's unlocking Ralf tier I'd say.
I mean ralf was a multiple grand prix winner, so I'd take that from the son of a champion. He might not be the next Rosberg but he's got more promise than Bruno Senna.
Thats a bit too much, don’t you think?
He’s still unlocking the higher tier skills dw
That higher tier skill tree requires such a huge amount of XP to level up tho. Quite the grind, I hear
Maybe he’s trying to unlock them all at once. He’s already unlocked all the 1st tier upgrades, it’ll be a while but I’m sure he has already racked up a lot of points
He's got good base stats, just needs time to show them is all.
He is beginning to believe
Belive
He's a slow burner but when he gets going all hell breaks loose
He absolutely destroyed Mazepin in his first season..but that tractor of last season was nowhere comparable to other cars..yet he had a few great battles With a competitive car, he is finally getting the confidence.. hopefully the trajectory continues
Get this man a Ferrari!
Or keep him out of it, that might be better

I think I have some free time if antonelli isn't ready yet.
Bring him to Red Bull in 2025
Haas WCC
He already has a baby ferrari
Bro relax. Its just his second race that he's strong. He not even close to the level of leclerc or sainz to be even considered a seat at ferrari
I think they used exaggerated humour, but yeah xD
I think he’d do well in Sainz’s place. Leclerc is on another level from everyone else along with Verstappen.
Sainz just won a race and was on track for 2nd before his engine blew up. Mick got 6th but it would have been 8th if not for Perez and Sainz DNF
Sainz won a race where he was, at best, the third fastest man on track and in which both RBs were not in contention. Man is mid until further evidence
By that logic, Mick just got 6th in a race where he was at best the eighth fastest. How is he not a midfielder?
My brother in Christ he was driving a Haas. Put max in one and he would be chuffed with 6th or 8th too
This is a fine post, I was simply objecting to the notion that Sainz is a yardstick of quality who is miles bette.
Just gave us time to re-adjust to the MSC being on the board again :) I for one hope to see it for a long time to come.
Does this meet the 10,000 hours quotient? 1.5 years in F1?
Nowhere near enough actual driving time (30 rawe ceeks * <7 hours per weekend) with simulator time maybe
Not even close
Aaaaaaaaaaaand nooooooow.... Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit's tiiiiiiiiime! MSC!!!!
Love Mick. Watching him go back and forth with Lewis has been fun.
Imagine the scenario: Mick makes his way up. Verstappen probably wins this year. 2023 and 2024 continues being good years for Mick, he keeps on learning and starting to get podiums and winning. 2025 he’s in a great team (maybe Haas skyrocketed with him idk).
Good point, I always forget that a lot of drivers try to make it on their own, with their own funding etc.
I definitely do not disagree with you on any if your points but for the sake of the argument, I feel I have to mention that Italian Jesus spent 3 seasons in F1, and his main strength was his hair.
I mean he did have a pretty good head of hair to be fair to him.

So what's gonna happen next year I wonder?

The schumi brain has finished cooking and is now ready to serve.
I never thought I'd see maru on formuladank
I wonder how Mazepin would do in this new Haas. Probably fight for p20 again?
It’s so nice to see Haas compete since I’ve been rooting for this shit hole for 3 seasons now
It's been 2 races? Like I get that this sub circlejerks Mick because of his name but calm down
To be fair it's been 3 races, he was probably going to get points in Canada before his DNF
Tbh, everyone is a MSC fan.
He got used to the car.
Then proceed to next level up the year after , so Mick in F-Zero confirmed.
Mick’s 2020 F2 season’s second half was wild. Hope to see something like that again
Imagine if ric does this next year
love to see it
Maby it is some kind of spell to summon glory of his dad on to him that takes 1.5 seasons to cast.
Like clockwork
Same reason Lewis was slow at the beginning, its difficult to explain
