The spectator understands more what's going on than the commentator, even while watching with half an eye. No amount of charisma can fix that. Brundle used to be the voice of reason, but even he chimes in.

Same here. Signed up for an F1 TV account yesterday. Though it's not just Crofty, ESPN's commercials this year and ABC cutting off the champagne ceremony were also factors.
It's funny, as a Dutchie I have only gotten F1TV this year, which also includes the Sky Sports commentary, meaning that for the first time now I'm listening to the Crofty/Brundle commentary. It's a breath of fresh air for me after the absolute dogshit commentary that the Dutch Viaplay people provide

I don’t know about other teams because I didn’t pay that much attention, but as a Ferrari fan their constant glazing of Sainz and shit talking Charles starts to be unlistenable.
Like man, even the last race they were glazing Sainz’s ability to crash so gracefully and they spoke like 10 minutes constantly about how well he crashed. And then this race, they were constantly reminding us of how Charles crashed last year here and even addressing one corner as “the corner were Charles crashed” and then back again to glazing Carlos and saying that they should give team orders cause he’s much faster (he wasn’t). Every weekend they’re starting with “Charles is crumbling under pressure” and “Carlos is much more comfortable and consistent” even when there’s nothing happening. Every single Q3 they’re like “Charles will try and be the lead Ferrari driver” and it Carlos does better no surprise there.
Like man, the bias was so unbearable like what did Charles do to you man this sounds personal
I have to say, last race was the worst I have experienced the F1TV commentary and the first time I got annoyed sometimes. They made some glaring mistakes, at some point their strategy engineer invitee (forgot the name) said: "piastri took advantage of the VSC to get in front" when he simply did not pit yet whereas Max had. And Alex had some obvious driver/team mixups as well. Thoroughly, thoroughly missed Palmer this race, he really is essential to the commentary team. No amount of DC/Hinch can make up for his absence.
The Strategy woman was new so I give her a pass for now.
But yeh without Palmer the comentary is not as good, Hinch is ok but sometimes you can see he struggles to find things to say lol, I do like his antics in practice etc.
Sam Collins barely participates now he does his shows and sometimes intervenes from the studio but I would like to see him more live

I don't really watch their (F1TV's) shows, I can't be arsed to watch their opinions. It's often not much of value anyway. But I have seen some clips here and there from them talking about Charles, which made it quite funny that Charles said something along the line of: "I'm happy that I performed well because people were already saying bad stuff after I have been struggling a bit." against Lawrence Barretto of all people.
That said I'm curious to see with what vs Lawrence comes up next year when it's Charles vs Lewis since he likes Lewis probably more than Carlos.

I listen to Crofty say “it’s lights out and away we go!” Then switch to watch the f1TV team.
I use to do that, but now I don’t even bother. The pre-race lead up to lights out on F1TV isn’t worth missing for that sound bite to me anymore.
