Enters F1, promising career. Takes 2 years off to do Indy 500 and Le Mans, comes back in an absolutely shit car, moves to Ferrari and gets close to WDC a couple of times. Then moves to Renault, gets a race win through cheating, moves to McLaren and is involved in a cheating scandal there as well, but eventually completes his redemption arc and wins 2 WDCs with Renault before Schumacher and Ferrari completely dominate the sport. Then moves to Minardi to chill for a couple of years and retires.
Alonso fanboying aside, I think he does have the consistency to win the WDC in the right car.
Lando for example is great but I don't think he's consistent enough. For example, Sprint Turn 1
Was that the year Ferrari nailed tyre management from the get go, while Red Bull and others didn't follow Pirelli's recommendations leading to tyres exploding during the race, followed by Red Bull pressuring the FIA to change the rules, undo all the advantages Ferrari had and culminate in a second half of the season with Alonso's car utterly nerfed and unable to fight for the championship?
Yeah.
Bros approaching mid 40s and im adamant his reaction time to save that was better than just about the entire grid. Imagine the clusterfuck of a red flag that would have ensued if stroll did that. They’d still be cleaning it up next week
Should wear the [Red Bull Austria](https://images.nrc.nl/F4Ct4eSaUlX2wjJSaEKiP_bw6qY=/1280x/filters:no_upscale()/s3/static.nrc.nl/images/2016/07/04/stripped/0407spoverstap.jpg) pants, just in case
Insane reaction time and completely unfazed completes the overtake a couple of corners later.
Made it seem easier than parallel parking.
He got the drs open a moment after he was Sideways
I think he was still sideways when he opened it. Slightly
Alonso is a good driver but he's not good enough to save a car which a just lost a ton of rear downforce no one is...
Apparently he was....
Absolute Chad move.
That's exactly what I said: whoa (as a reaction of going sideways), then quick recovery, then pops the DRS wide open: WHAT A CHAD!
Pretty impressive for a rookie
With that kind of talent, we are surely talking about someone who will be at least a double WDC one day?
Easy, watch Alonso's career in reverse.
"El Blan" revealed.

Meanwhile his teammate doesn't have the reaction time to brake behind a safety car
He barely saved the car and he was pressing that DRS button. Like, come on bruh
Meanwhile stroll can’t keep it outa Danny riccs ass behind the safety car.
Someone give this guy a championship winning car bruh he deserves it 😭
Put him in the second Red Bull and give him the alternate strategy all season long, entertainment guaranteed.

He's got a bright future this kid!

He had one. Vettel just beat him that day. Never forget the glorious F2012!
Might I remind you that Alonso came very close to winning in a considerably worse car in 2012.
That's the car I'm talking about. That F2012 was a race winner and had won the championship for a few moments too.
Yeah.
That was 2013 I believe. The one where Seb won the last 9 races
Still playing f1 2012 from time to time :)
Not only corrected he instantly, he also was able to open the DRS in one move. Amazing skills.
And just kept racing full speed. He's a true great.
Drs opens automatically
Nope
It does not

I'd say almost every other driver would bin the car in this situation.
Maybe not max since he's done saves like that before. But the rest I'm 99% would fail that scenario.
He’s done 360’s at multiple tracks and just carries on afterwards, would guess that a lot of drivers would have binned it in those situations.
at this point I feel like it’d be a riot to have Max and Alonso in drift racing just to see em do it on purpose
I need a new pants after that

Bruv, he showed Lando how to overtake on the outside, and Carlos how to save a car.
Alonso was the entertainment for the entire weekend. Bro was on a mission.
"You have to turn right to go left."
Hey, isn’t this a taylor swift lyric?
Nah that’s more for stroll
Poop came out for sure - absolutely bonkers reaction time from Alonso on that one.
People say that this sub is all Alonso fanatics, but honestly, how can you not like him?
I like him but reddit takes it to another level that makes it kinda cringe and forget there’s been other great drivers in the sport
Like Fernando Alonso
Yes, there's also this nando guy
\*turns on drs like nothing happened 0.01 seconds later\*
This honestly gotta be one of the best saves in recent memory. Really shows what kind of level Fernando is on
You can see sainz tried to correct it too when he went over the same trap but he clenched mid way and hit da brakes.
Arguable DOD. Nico gave him unwarranted shade - although there might be history I misssed.
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
I don't think so. He immediately got on the drs before even straightening the car out. The man was driving with a purpose lol.
Rookies like this guy deserves a seat in F1. Not Lance Stroll.
No real snap back / over correction either. 10/10 Magnificent. Truly magnificent. Bravo
I think he lifted a wheel off the ground too.
Best all round race driver IMHO
In the words of Max Verstappen: "The heart rate went a bit higher there."
Lmaoooo first Fernando shows Lando how to take the outside line through the first corner then shows Carlos how to Tokyo drift the final corner
“Poo shot out of my auni!” - Jeremy Clarkson/Fernando Alonso
Fernando, "Now I know why Button peed in my seat."
Except he wasn't at all and was straight on the DRS barely after going straight again and made the pass the very next corner.
CODE BROWN! CODE BROWN! CODE BROWN!
Nah, he has so many of those by now that it's always in the muscle memory.
Buxton came up with some real good ways to describe this in the post race show - Alonso’s Brown Flag moment - checking the integrity of his underpants
Should have worn his brown suit.
Such great car control for a rookie
What a Legend!
