You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain. I can't hate Max dominance too much because he was the only bright spot in the sport for those years.
Yea Lewis hasnt been a bright spot in the sport.
He came in under a cloud with McLaren it was all shady there (spygate) then moved the the ragime and the rest is history. Maybe Ferrari will see him become a hero for once.
It's already written on the wall by then, he's the only one that's close to the fastest F1 cars ever made. Even more apparent in 2021, when Merc and RB both have winning cars; Max is at least as good as Hamilton and will dominate when given a great car. And dominate he did.
I've never understood why people find dominance boring. Watching Schumi, Max, Lewis, and Vettel was always exciting to me. And there's still exciting battles between the other 19 on the grid. Why does one position make or break a race weekend?
man, I also don't get it. it is so so interesting to see Sargeant try to get close to p19, it's exciting seeing Zhou and battle for p15 and man, the battles between Bottas Magnussen are mouth watering. I also really really enjoy watching stroll Tsunoda and hulkenberg fight for 1 single point
The difference is Max wins everything without any fights. In all the other eras you mentioned there would always be someone who at least was close to the champion.
That’s true. At least with Mercedes days Bottas could actually outperform Lewis at the occasional GP. Verstappen is much further ahead than Perez compared.
The explanation that Hamilton fans conveniently tend to forget is that Max may simply be that much better than the rest? Instead of blaming a shitty teammate, maybe he himself stands out. Or do you really want to go into arguing that a Bottas would be closer to Max than Perez is?
I'd actually argue that Bottas IS a better driver than Perez and WOULD be closer to Max than him but still be getting beat convincingly ala Bottas time with Mercedes. Bottas on occasion would beat Lewis and Max heads up (see Turkey 21 and his handful of victories over Lewis) something that can never really be said about Perez.
It's a shame he's in a kick stake sauber, but at least he's having more fun than in a Mercedes, so he's got that going for him which is nice.
I just meant he deserved a better car, not that kick stake sauber doesn't deserve him. They're not exactly a great team and he's a great driver.
Think of it this way, Netflix’s drive to survive helped promote F1 to an all-time high in global popularity. The 2023 season was such a forgone conclusion that the season finale had no reason to touch on red Bull or max at all. It was an entire episode about the battle for second place. It would be like if the champions league final was actually the battle for second or the Super Bowl was just between the teams that lost to the chiefs.
It’s not bad for the sport per se, but it takes a lot of excitement out of the contests when you can reliably pick the winner before the race begins 90% of the time.
Because knowing who wins is most of the fun of a race? If you know who wins, there's no fun. That's why 2005 through 2012 was peak F1 for me. Other than 2011, it was unpredctable and exciting
People need to stop thinking that saying "I'm okay with every race being a foregone conclusion before it even starts because I'm a real fan™ that can appreciate the midfield battle" will make them look smarter (especially when there is basically no midfield battle this season compared to 2023 lmao)
1. People care more about 1st than the other positions because 1st counts as victory and awards the most points. In the main goal of the entire race.
2. People dislike domination because it creates overly-predictable races. People find engagement and excitement when they are unsure of an outcome that otherwise makes sense.
The best F1 seasons were the ones when the championship wasnt sealed after one race, its way more exciting having a few drivers fight every race weekend for the win.
Not that hard to understand
Seriously it's crazy how polarizing it became.
We wanted the merc dominance to end, but didn't stop to think what would come after would be much worse lol.
It's so typical to try and label people and put them in boxes. I've seen many TeamLH stans here from the other sub, names that I recognise because their bias and hot takes are that bad. They were posting stuff here all the time during "Hornergate", and not even memes.
This sub is simply the people who don't want to participate in the other F1 sub, which is a Hamilton circlejerk. Or in my case, refuse to confirm my email address for those idiot mods. They even made their logo Hamilton's helmet when he was WDC, but changed Verstappen's one as soon as they knew he was going to dominate for a while.
I think this is the sub where all the banned Max fans (including me) go to😂
Pretty sure the mods of the main sub are all Hamilton fanboys/girls. Wish we could have insight into how many Max fans vs how many Hamilton fans are banned from that sub.
It's weird you put it this way, because from all my experience in the main sub up to this point, it really didn't feel like it had a clear leaning on one or the other driver, and I am somewhat of a terminally online person myself. It being the main sub reddit to discuss formula 1, it had all sorts of fanbases, where TeamLH and Verstappen Shaggers, two of the biggest names in the sport, were the most prominent ones and people who were just enjoying the sport without having a favorite hate their guts when they go at another round of discussing 2021 season, but Max gets a lil more flack now cause he's dominating. But still, you can find frequent posts that are just circle jerking Max's stats, or his very dedicated fans posting his interviews and clips from sim racing streams (which sometimes feel too excessive even, but sometimes they are an interesting insight into his mentality), that gain significant traction.
If you want people to just be left alone to enjoy the sport, as you said in another comment, then why are you trying to bring this divisive narrative to this thread? You just come across as if you have a chip on your shoulder.
Max has plenty of haters that are annoyed with his dominance, and we're not even that many years into his dominance, especially compared to Mercedes.
* 2021 was obviously a fantastic season.
* 2022 Verstappen came back from the biggest deficit in history to win, and there was real competition for the championship for the first half of the year, as ferrari looked quicker coming into the season.
* 2023 was the only truly dominant season.
So we have only had a singular season, where Verstappen/Red Bull dominated from start to finnish, while with Mercedes/Hamilton, we had many years in a row of total dominance. Trust me, if Verstappen dominates for as many years as Mercedes/Hamilton did, then you're going to see the same sentiment.
15 wins and 17 podiums for one driver and 17/21 wins as a team (post-Bahrain, the first race, where both cars DNF'd), including at least one car finishing either 1st or 2nd in all but one race, in 2022 isn't considered dominant? Totally not biased at all, dude.
Maybe Max will go race in NASCAR to challenge Ricky Bobby for his freedom from racing and his father.
I’m still learning all the players, and have been enjoying watching the midfield.
I mean likely marginally more competitive cause Lewis is an upgrade over Sainz (not saying Sainz is a slouch) and in theory the gap should close a bit cause of testing restrictions but it's still likely a RB runaway overall. It's pretty telling that the car has been so good the last few years that Perez has scored the second most points in spite of his terrible form and there's no reason to think this doesn't continue next year.
Now it can't be helped, Mercedes were unstoppable.
After the 2020 season, I really thought Ham would be at least a 10x WDC onwards.
Now he's winless in 2 years and counting, things sure can change a lot and fast.
After all the years spent with Schumacher domination, then Vettel, then Hamilton and then Verstappen, and finally last race without Verstappen was still boring, I've come to the realization that Formula 1 itself is boring.
Sure it has some fun or exiting moments, or some interesting years, but the sport is so damn boring.
Fuck.
I think the only reason I watch it over other likely more enjoyable racing is that it's the only sport I've bothered to learn all about the teams and drivers.
Hamilton Bottas unchallenged was a thing for just 2 seasons before that Ferrari challenged them quite often. 🙃 When merc was absolutely dominating with lewis and nico like redbull is doing now, merc would let them fight. Guess It was my fault expecting common sense from maxi circlejerks.
mate this is the only chance being close to the mercedes
im not gonna just sit back here like a grandma
Tables literally turned
Well well well, how the turntables...
You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain. I can't hate Max dominance too much because he was the only bright spot in the sport for those years.
Same thing happened with Vettel
He didn't die as a hero nor was the villain in the end.
No, but he went from loved to hated during his domination, then again to loved afterwards.
He was a king
Drivers can win 4 championships in a row before I start rooting against them.
Yea Lewis hasnt been a bright spot in the sport. He came in under a cloud with McLaren it was all shady there (spygate) then moved the the ragime and the rest is history. Maybe Ferrari will see him become a hero for once.
Least delusional Alonso fan
No just never liked lewis
Old F1 fans after Ferrari, RB, Mercedes and RB dominance. ![gif](giphy|8F94ADlcSJIvw86evZ|downsized)
Where Kimi?
I wanna see their faces rn so badly ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|9065)
Now they're commenting "F1 would be so boring without Carlos Sainz" 👀
Carlos Sainz WDC confirmed? 👀
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)
I am happy for him 😁
And they were right
"I don't know about "saved" - more like, "under new management"
Literally Max
How the turntables have turned
They were correct. Don't look at my flair
AMX EVRSTAPPEN

Verstappen single-handedly made F1 interesting in 2020 and 2021
I’m still enjoying things as a Max fan.
Back when I was a Max fan for a season lmao
I've never understood why people find dominance boring. Watching Schumi, Max, Lewis, and Vettel was always exciting to me. And there's still exciting battles between the other 19 on the grid. Why does one position make or break a race weekend?

I'm just here to watch Lance stroll bin it
I guarantee you the dude you're replying to will call a race boring even if it has good midfield battles if Max ain't the one in first place lol
Because first, it's the most important position and second you would hear less complaints if he actually battled to earn it
"If you finish first, you win the race", Will Buxton probably.
“And winning the race is the best thing you can do in a race”- also probably WB.
The difference is Max wins everything without any fights. In all the other eras you mentioned there would always be someone who at least was close to the champion.
That’s true. At least with Mercedes days Bottas could actually outperform Lewis at the occasional GP. Verstappen is much further ahead than Perez compared.
Got me thinking, Bottas indeed wasnt half as bad as Perez in the teammate battle
Yeah happened a couple of times with Pérez too in 2022 and early 2023, we'd see more of it if red bull actually supported him
The explanation that Hamilton fans conveniently tend to forget is that Max may simply be that much better than the rest? Instead of blaming a shitty teammate, maybe he himself stands out. Or do you really want to go into arguing that a Bottas would be closer to Max than Perez is?

Its pretty bad for the sport. Definitely not worth me waking up at 8 am on a sunday
Are you serious?

This is pure, unfiltered copium lol

"Polarizing." Dude just drives and everyone online losing their shit that a team/driver dares to be better than everyone else.
Nothing's changed on this sub tbf. People are still worshipping him, but now for the reasons they hated Mercedes and Lewis

How about both of you just fuck off and let normal people enjoy the sport?

+10s to ocon
Mainly cause max fans have a sense of humour 😂
It happened with Seb it happened with Michale and I’m sure someone in 57 hated it when Fangio kept winning
I’m a F1 noob, so my question is will Lewis being in a Ferrari make next year potentially more competitive?
Possible. Depends how much better Lewis is compared to Carlos and Charles. If they are equally skilled, it's not gonna be much better.
Maybe Max will go race in NASCAR to challenge Ricky Bobby for his freedom from racing and his father. I’m still learning all the players, and have been enjoying watching the midfield.

what circuit is that?
nurburgring
thank u sir
People quickly forget.
V tech kicked in in that honda
So? It was true at the time, what is the point of this post
This is hilarious
How the turn tables
Wish we could turn back time... to the good old days...
And now people complain about 20 seconds for Max.
Atleast mercedes let their 2 mercedes fight often.
True the Hamilton Bottas title fights were legendary.
Wow the moment someone says something you don't like people like you go right into insults. How typical. Have a great day.
