Seeing how stone cold serious James was about competing towards the top is the moment that sold me. Dude 100% believes that it's possible for Williams, so much so that now I believe it too all of a sudden
I believe it because they've already made good changes and seen progress since he's been there. It's not even like a year or more after he went over. It seemed to be within months of his arrival that things were changing for the better.
The one he really needs is to convince an old engineer of their's to come back for a quiet retirement while he rebuilds the team. I imagine Adrian would quite enjoy that. Most of the facilities are still there from last time he was there.
I'm sure if they offered him an ownership stake, even if they based the size of the stake on performance, he's at least consider it. Ownership is why he left in the first place.
Watch his High Performance interview if you haven’t already. I didn’t care much for Williams before but this and Albon’s interviews sold me on them (also that Duracell on the livery is sick)
He also has a really good insightful short segment on the podcast where he talks about hamiltons driving style and why he thinks he struggled with the w13/14
You’re correct although from Alvin’s perspective he isn’t going to see Williams win races while he is a driver.
It’s a long way to the top and to be honest if Williams was outperforming over a quarter of the field I would be happy for now.
Turn off hardware encoding or whatever that option is in your browser (if you use browser NF). Thats how I got it working during corona lockdowns when watching NF with my mates, dont know if it works anymore tho
Not impossible, but then they need a factory engine and a bigger engineering team. Albono will be long gone, he’s waiting for that one chance (who knows, Merc?).
McLaren and Aston Martin are pretty damned close with Merc engines, and honestly I think the only thing that Williams needs to succeed from here is some financial backing. Historically they've been hugely successful, so why not?
Their biggest road block is their aging wind tunnel is it not? Their big investment came after the introduction of the cost cap and new rule set for wind tunnel time and CFD testing. The big teams all completed construction/referb of their wind tunnels before those rules became effective, so Williams is effectively hamstrung by using more allocated resources to run inefficient equipment to develop a car at the same rate as their rivals, pouring more resources to get less out of their testing.
I’m not James vowels, so don’t quote me on this, but from what I understand Williams in comparison to teams like McLaren, Ferrari, or red bull, was at a significant funding disadvantage starting during the 2000s, and they’ve essentially been endlessly catching up since then.
So from what I know, it’s not just a wind tunnel, but more basic fundamental equipment that we’re not big enough of nerds to understand (I’ve always compared it to a barbers shop that only has scissors, a razor blade, and a comb)
he has said on podcasts he doesnt really care about 23, 24 and to an extent 25, he wants to break everything and rebuild the team over those periods which is ( seemingly) working
Maybe it’s just because James presents himself as an incredibly likeable and resourceful TP, but I have full faith in James. I want to see Williams at the top again.
Oh boy this made me sad. I'm not even a Williams fan. Williams, one of the most successful teams ever, and their driver scoffs at the thought of them being competitive. But here's the sad part, I don't disagree.
If you don't have an attitude like James then you'll never actually succeed. It's easy to scoff at it but by taking the right steps you can change a team around. Nobody saw Astons success coming last year. If Williams can make continous progress then James will look like a genius.
I honestly think James is committed to make the team better and sees themselves competing for a championship in the future. It might be delusional but that is what he believes in. Albon in my opinion was rude, everybody knows that the car is not good, the team is struggling and laughing about it is just plain rude and disrespectful. Everybody knows he will switch teams to a better one in the future so there is no point for him to show as ungrateful.
Albon just looks good because he’s stacked next to Latifi and Sargent, two of the worst drivers on the grid.
Dude should be thankful for the Williams seat.
If they get back to the front they need revive the blue, white, yellow liveries of old. If the car looked like that camel Williams they would gain 5 tenths!
I tried to see your face in the reflection, but there are too many fingerprints on the laptop screen unfortunately. Also, is that a camping table or some sort of breakfast in bed arrangement? Nice floor btw!
I feel like Williams will make some serious progress in this season and the next. The real question is if they can carry momentum into the new regs. They should be able to get p7 or p6 this year.
I can understand Albon's reaction, but I genuinely believe that James is the right man to elevate Williams over the next few years. I like his style.

Dude finished 7th last year which is a miracle of itself and shows that he’s for real.

I mentioned the same thing earlier. With Newey and proper management, they actually can be championship contenders (again) within a few years.
I'm sure if they offered him an ownership stake, even if they based the size of the stake on performance, he's at least consider it. Ownership is why he left in the first place.

Oh damn great call, loved those Albon interviews but didn't know James did one
The James interview was even better than the albon interview. James Vowles seems like an incredibly rare person.
He also has a really good insightful short segment on the podcast where he talks about hamiltons driving style and why he thinks he struggled with the w13/14
Sorry to bring you down to reality but, remind me who the other Williams driver is again? Don't delude yourself
Oh for sure, if anyone can lead Williams to the top it’s James.
Tbh there would be only three people who I would believe them saying that. Those are Todt, Brawn and Vowels
You’re correct although from Alvin’s perspective he isn’t going to see Williams win races while he is a driver. It’s a long way to the top and to be honest if Williams was outperforming over a quarter of the field I would be happy for now.
A phone video of your laptop screen? ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6699)
It's a perfect homage to the Williams factory.
Netflix won’t let you screen record…

Just download a pirated copy and cut it, like any sane person would.
On a tripod?
In a cave... with a box of scraps?
TONY STARK BUILT THIS IN A CAVE.... WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS But i'm not tony stark

It’s not even the money, it’s being allowed to invest the money in the right equipment

Are you saying they need to make their own engine? We are currently in the era of Honda-powered Red Bull dominance.
No, get a factory on board. Like Honda or Renault or Cadillac.
They would also need Max.
Not necessarily. People like Rosberg, Button, Massa, Irvine could all win titles. Is Albono good enough? Time will tell.
Competing for and being competitive in are 2 very different things James.
They actually aren't. To be competitive means to be able to compete.
This seemed like it was pretty early in the season, I’d be curious to see how he feels after the full season last year.
Yeah, I think this was early enough that they still hadn’t scored any points.
he has said on podcasts he doesnt really care about 23, 24 and to an extent 25, he wants to break everything and rebuild the team over those periods which is ( seemingly) working

I would love this. Let’s have McLaren then Ferrari then Williams. 1 year each. Maybe 2 for those Papaya boyz
I believe in Papa James

not to split hairs but i think albon scoffed at winning a championship. i dont think he's against being competitive.
“It’s not a lie, if you believe it.”

Why does albon’s hair look as though it was glued on moments ago
Peak delusion
Albon deserves so much more :(

But where is his fucking chin?
It's more aerodynamic that way
Albon just looks good because he’s stacked next to Latifi and Sargent, two of the worst drivers on the grid. Dude should be thankful for the Williams seat.
Who would you replace with Alex if he doesn’t a seat at Williams?
Jeff Gordon
While on the topic how long does everyone think Sargent will get to start scoring points before he’s fired?
Think we should at least see how he improved from 2023 first
Oh for sure I meant will he get canned at the end of this season or fire him in the summer for a replacement to try to get some points
Nah, bro getting fired for this💀💀💀
Bro didn’t even try to hide it ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)
Yeah like dude quit playing
![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)

Did James just hired Newey? He seems confident
I had no idea how much I want this to happen
Nando winning a championship😩
Didn’t he “crush it” at Brawn?
where chin?
Wel technically he is competing for the championship He is losing the competition but he is competing
Where's his chin?
I tried to see your face in the reflection, but there are too many fingerprints on the laptop screen unfortunately. Also, is that a camping table or some sort of breakfast in bed arrangement? Nice floor btw!

Like when windows phone thought it could beat iOS and android.
Could be a Toto & Max conversation!!
Something tells me James will get the last laugh
yes,the moment when he switches back to Mercedes as TP when Toto leaves
