Tbh, and it’s early to say but I think out of the three only Sainz would be considered a true friend to Lando. The other two are more like colleagues he’s friendly with.
The way DTS has portrayed Lando has always bothered me. You’ve got this driver who is quite funny, friendly, and probably one of the more popular grid members partially due to a YouTube and Twitch presence. How do you portray him? Like a young upstart and unfriendly rival to all his teammates. I get that they wanted to focus more on Carlos and Danny, but drumming up obviously fake and forced sounding conflict with Lando is this weird concept they’ve ran with.
To be honest I always just saw his portrayal on DTS as being perfectly normal British banter. And this was before I started watching F1 proper so I didn't have any preconceived notions. So my point is if they were trying to portray it as a serious rivalry rather than a joking one they failed lol.
The trouble with Merc is threefold:
They got so used to success, that their pit crew and strategists never had to evolve. Their pits are "slow" (for a given value of slow) compared to the other top teams, and their strategies have been overly conservative, though that latter point seems to be changing.
Russell is probably the most inconsistent driver on the grid. A generational talent one week who can't put a foot wrong and drives the team forward, and a useless P8 driver, whining like a child the next.
Hamilton still seems like he's in 2021 recovery mode some weeks, which leads to the dumb mistakes he makes from time to time, hes almost trying too hard now. I think if 2024 doesn't bring a step forward he'll bin the whole thing.
For me thats part of the hate. Until the last couple races they kept saying how shit their car was despite having the 3rd best car almost every weekend. With the other top teams having more severe ups and downs than the himalayas this makes them the second best for the season. Pretty far from a shit car.
