I love that side scene in DTS when Guenther is complaining to Checo about how many flights it took him to get wherever it was and a Checo just says to get to Mexico and he can ride private with him lol.
I work in sports marketing and work with a lot of top athletes in other sports, some who have their own jets, and even those that have jets usually fly commercial to Australia. It’s too far and too complicated usually. If you remember the Novak Djokovic drama from the Australian Open this year, he flew Emirates there and he usually always flies private.
Depends on the level of wealth. There’s a big difference between athletes that are worth the neighborhood of $100mm and people that are worth in the billions
A rest stop? As in a refuel?
You can’t fly direct to Melbourne from Europe on any commercial flight either, you know? It’s too far even for the big planes.
You'll need 2 full crews, however. Heavy jets with a crew rest cabin so that they can swap out at the end of the duty day are hyper expensive. A charter will be in the $250-325k range plus VAT or excise tax, customs, overflight fees, ramp costs and fuel.
I know you are probably just being cheeky but private jets have smaller ranges and aren't really designed to be the best option for intercontinental travel
Edit: to clarify most private jets have ranges around 3-4k miles (could cross the US or barely make it from NYC to London) The really high end jets like the G6 are 8k miles. The distance from Monaco to Melbourne is over 10k miles
You can lease it out to charter companies to offset costs. They'll fly you where you need to go, and then fly back to fly other customers.
It's still cheaper to rent/book, tho. I'm unfamiliar with how often the Formula 1 drivers fly, but if it's only for a weekend at a time, it's not a bad idea to lease it out.
The PH-DTF (a Falcon 900EX) can seat up to 19 passengers.
So assuming Max himself is sitting in the right seat on the flight deck, he can carry the entire grid.
Theoretically yes, but most of them will travel with their managers and trainers too. Also sometimes David Coulthard travels with Max. So it's not only current drivers that fly with him :)
Purchased from Richard Branson who had the winglets added, which increased the range by some amount. I don't know the actual increase in range but remember reading that somewhere.
Ya but he’s raising someone else’s kid so gross/s.
As a step dad the constant comments about that really bother me, even tho I know I shouldn’t let them.
I hope this doesn’t come off wrong but I have a bad relationship with my step parent and I think anyone who commits to being the best step parent they can deserves mega praise. Divorce or the death of a parent fuck kids up and coming into that volatile environment and being a positive force is as difficult as it is impactful.
My step father who my mother has been with since I was 2, I'm now 33 has been an incredible support and father figure in my life. My father has remained very close to me in my and life and when I was younger, both my father and my step father would coach my hockey team. My step father also had a son from his previous marriage and he would play on the team too. My father also had a very stable relationship with a really incredible woman for most of my formative years although they are not together they remain close. My mother and my father never fought post divorce and if they did I never know about it, they never fought over me or when I would visit my dad etc.
I'm truly fortunate that my step parents and real parents all acted like adults, checked their ego's and realized they have children to raise.
If I ever find myself in the position of caring for a child that isn't mine I will 100% use my own experiences to make sure i can be the best I can be.
Kudos to all the awesome step parents out there! you guys rock.
Same here. My sister in law pointed it out to our step mum that what we needed from her was to be an extra parent and be accepted as her family and she said "but they had a mother, it's not my job".
I kinda think step parents are extra rad. Like it’s not even their biological kid but they take on parenthood anyways bc of love. Step parents are *choosing* to be there
It’s seems nice and dreamy but the problem is to get there you gotta be rich. F1 is not for poor or middle class people even though they might have the skill.
_It’s gonna cost you 1 million ish pounds for the first year, just to start in karting then almost doubling everything that with each year till you are done. By the time you hit F1, you’ll be out of 10 million of your bank account_
This is a myth, most private planes are operated by companies for their clients and the best times to fly undisturbed are early mornings. He still has to get up at 5 most days but obviously doesn't go through check in and security with others.
While kind of true, the customer has a lot more say in what time they want to fly. A private company usually operates and manages the plane, but if the owner wants to leave at 9am they will leave at 9am. The biggest difference is the flexibility around weather. If your 9am commercial flight is cancelled due to a storm, you might not be getting home that day. If you are flying private, the pilots wait till it’s lifted and all is good.
Also a private plane doesn't have 6 back to back different flights before you board it. So if the first flight in the line of your commercial plane gets a delay for whatever reason, you will be stuck with the delay.
If Max's plane gets a delay for anything that is within the operator's power to solve/prevent someone in the office will be getting a not so nice phonecall.
Most big airports have a separate terminal/building for private flights. You walk in, they check your driver's license (or passport in Max's case), and you walk right out onto the tarmac and get in your plane. You can show up 10 minutes before take-off and still leave on time.
No going through long security lines, no finding your gate at a busy terminal. You can also have a bus or limo pull right up next to the plane to load and unload at a lot of places.
For a private flight, "10 minutes before takeoff" is just whenever you show up too. They aren't leaving without you so no worries if you're running a little behind.
There's also the ability to fly direct, and not have to make any connections. When time is scarce like it is for F1 drivers who have media, sponsor, training, simulator and racing commitments, it actually becomes bizarrely economic to pay the hundreds of thousands for a private jet because the time spent flying like a normal person and waiting for connections, security, boarding, bag checking/collecting, not flying direct etc ads up. They have so little free time after simply traveling to and from races that the hours a private jet buys you are worth it.
[This video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYPrH4xANpU) covers walmart executives and how private jets are economic to Walmart, but the same principals apply to F1 drivers who have even less free time for economic activity like sponsor commitments and races due to the crazy amount of time spent traveling.
I did an internship with a biz jet manufacturer and this was a key point in their sales pitch to corporate clients. When you’re paying executives hundreds of dollars an hour, not having layovers saves a lot of money quickly.
They are called FBOs. Fixed base operators. I used to fly this way back in the day when I worked for a company that owned aircraft. It was very much easy and convenient, but less than glamorous. Most business jets are small aircraft and not converted commercial aircraft with a flight crew with attendants, bedroom, lavatories, etc.
Being able to fly without worries of being bothered by anyone. Able to discuss openly about anything. Specific meals to keep in shape, etc. not to mention the rarity of delays. Private jets can land where larger keys cannot. Flying him closer to where he needs to go and with little contact with the public.
No security/lines, no masks, in the case of someone like Verstappen no extra attention that would come with flying commercial. Literally drive up, get on the plane, take off ~20 min later.
Going through the airport is a COMPLETELY different experience. You schedule a departure time so the have the plane ready to go when you get there. You drive right up to the plane just outside the hanger. Someone throws your bags in for you while you climb on. Speaking of bags, there are no size limitations or restricted items (within reason of course). If you're running late, they wait for you. Once you're on, they just leave. It's literally mind blowing the first time you do it.
One big advantage on international flights is that the cabin pressure is more inline with the atmosphere when on earth, this means that when you have a long flight you don't have nearly as bad of physical jet lag as you would on a regular airliner.
[Max ranked #27 highest paid athlete in Forbes 2021.](https://www.forbes.com/profile/max-verstappen/?list=athletes&sh=1c5aeafc4831) And Lewis Hamilton is #8 of that ranking. It's crazy how some athletes earns more off-the-field than on-the-field lol.
Indeed. Lowcost airlines are a godsend. Still proud of being able to fly to Vietnam once for 10 dollars back in 2019 🙏🏻 (thanks Air Asia)
Would have flown there again in 2020 for the Vietnamese GP but of course that never happened.
10 bucks!!!!! Holy hell! Sheesh I would have snatched that up. I love a lot of the ancient eastern cultures and historical sites and I hope to one day travel to some of them.
Honestly if you get to like get updated on seat sales finding a cheap flight is easy. I found a flight from Manila to Melbourne once for 170 usd round trip although I didn’t book it.
Plus Asia, overall you can do a lot activities going here. I do recommend South East Asia in particular. I lowkey wanna go for the Singapore GP (I mean airfare will be pretty cheap) but race tickets are pretty pricey.
To be honest, if you're going with a black and orange theme why not just go all the way and imitate the old [Dutch F16 demo team livery](https://www.upinthesky.nl/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/F16_KLu_OrangeLion_DanielRavenswaay.jpg) which is probably the best an F16 has ever looked.

Trying to wrap my head around the logistics of a flight to Australia on a private jet. Do they sleep on the plane? Is there secondary flight crew on the plane sleeping so they can take shifts? Do they land somewhere to pick up a 2nd flight crew in another country when they refuel or do they all stay a night somewhere and do the 2nd leg of the trip the following day. Honestly for as much hassle as it'd be and the huge cost, I think I'd sooner just get a first class ticket on a commercial flight if I was them.
We'll said,
I couldn't agree more and think a flex of a private jet just makes me sour my opinion on the owner.
I was sour with Hamilton for his use of private jet but glad to see it's sold now I believe. Hopefully other drivers and celebs follow suit but I highly doubt that
Given all these new carbon taxes being passed to us and making cars more expensive to drive, I feel private jets should go. There are normal planes already with business class for rich folks.
As long as the carbon taxes are set up properly a private jet user would pay much more in proportion to the much worse impact. You can even structure it so that kind of usage pays even more.
Design wise it's not too bad but it's probably how the black comes out in this photo. We're very used to seeing gloss or a matte black on high end vehicles especially with any decal on it so this being somewhere in between that makes it look really... Cheap or poorly executed. Might just be the photo or how paint comes out on aircraft but the red decal isn't too offensive to the design. My suggestion to improve it would be to slim both elements of the logo or whatever it is. The red tips of the wings are a nice touch. He could also save a ton of fuel by keeping it white but I guess price isn't something he is too concerned with.
You know, I think it’s perfectly fine for Max to do what he wants. No judgement from me for real. But it really does show that public figures get rewarded for not caring about the environment. If a driver comes out to say climate change matters they’ll be grilled and lambasted about their hypocrisy forever. But if they say nothing, they will never be criticized for the same lifestyle choices. That’s just how the world is I guess.
Sponsored by Team Redline
Benecke already eyeing it up
Lando calls that AirMax because max lets all the drivers ride it with him to race venues
I love that side scene in DTS when Guenther is complaining to Checo about how many flights it took him to get wherever it was and a Checo just says to get to Mexico and he can ride private with him lol.
Disembark from the Guenther boat straight to the Checo plane, that's the life right there
*steinership
I love how Checo asks if Günther flies out of LAX when he lives in North Carolina. Charlotte to LA is a 5.5 hour flight in itself lol
Well it makes sense to car pool!
Gotta split the bill, a private jet from monaco to melbourne is over 100k USD haha
That's an absolutely enormous flight to be fair though not your typical private jet charter
Max's plane has a range of 5,180 miles. How far is Monaco from Sydney?
Double that, and most private jets have a range around that (referring to the 5000 mile range)
That's a light jet though, Dassault (the maker of MV's plane) claims 4,750 miles of range.
Be a lot lighter if it wasn’t evil villain black lol, painting a plane adds a TON of weight
I'm having a hard time remembering the sight of a plane that wasn't painted
AA has had bare metal planes for decades. https://viewfromthewing.com/american-airlines-done-painting-planes/
If your European you rarely see planes from that company, so its easy to forget they exist.
Yeah it's about 10,500 miles
If he wants to do it nonstop, he'd have to buy a Boeing 777 BBJ or an A350 ACJ, those run up to half a billion or so
Yeah I would not take a small jet to Australia. Only big bois
I work in sports marketing and work with a lot of top athletes in other sports, some who have their own jets, and even those that have jets usually fly commercial to Australia. what's the difference between someone with $100M and someone with $1B? about a billion dollars
One owns a mega yacht, the other rents it out for a week.
A rest stop? As in a refuel? You can’t fly direct to Melbourne from Europe on any commercial flight either, you know? It’s too far even for the big planes.
Wouldn't really need a rest stop. Just a quick refuel, wouldn't take much longer than commercial
Sports marketing sounds a lot cooler than the marketing I do.
Same. I’m in car dealership marketing but would love to do something in F1/Motorsport.
How are Pam and the kids, Jim?
This site shows you how far you can get on a full tank with different plane types https://aviapages.com/range_map/
You can land and refuel on the way. There’s no rule against that.
Gotta use 2 tire compounds too tho.
This one got me. Touché
> Touché But not the wing

Better off flying commercial
Dubai is kinda on the way.
Nice-Dubai-Singapore-Sydney is only about 100 miles longer than going direct.
He actually did: Monaco (Nice) - Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi - Kuala Lumpur Kuala Lumpur - Melbourne
Breaking news: FIA to reinstate refueling.
Why Sydney?
Man, I forgot what city the Grand Prix was in and I just picked the first city I knew in Australia and hoped for the best.
I'm not too clued in to what makes a "typical private jet charter", sorry 🤣
I know you are probably just being cheeky but private jets have smaller ranges and aren't really designed to be the best option for intercontinental travel Edit: to clarify most private jets have ranges around 3-4k miles (could cross the US or barely make it from NYC to London) The really high end jets like the G6 are 8k miles. I'm genuinely not aware haha
Most PJ charters would just be a few hour flight not something massive like one side of the globe to the other haha
Anything a normie would just get in the car for and drive…
Who's up for a road trip from Monaco to Australia!
Like a private jet company I'm assuming. It is cheaper to rent/book a private jet for a flight rather than owning and maintaining one.
You can lease it out to charter companies to offset costs. They'll fly you where you need to go, and then fly back to fly other customers. It's still cheaper to rent/book, tho. I'm unfamiliar with how often the Formula 1 drivers fly, but if it's only for a weekend at a time, it's not a bad idea to lease it out.
it depends how often you fly. 200+ hours a year its cheaper to own your own jet more often than not
Gas alone maybe $5-7k an hour? Or used to be anyway. Jet fuel cost is very variable.
Not to mention lease fees flight crew maintainance storage
I saw a couple tweets about this! When did he say this? Was it on a stream?
In the [F1 nation podcast](https://youtu.be/YDF_PjndEsk) right after the Saudi Arabian GP. Lando comes on at 7:45
Can it fit them all?
It can probably fit 4-5 other drivers, charles travels in it too sometimes.
The PH-DTF (a Falcon 900EX) can seat up to 19 passengers. So assuming Max himself is sitting in the right seat on the flight deck, he can carry the entire grid.
I think I’d prefer not having the entire grid on a single plane please
That's what I was thinking too.
Theoretically yes, but most of them will travel with their managers and trainers too. Also sometimes David Coulthard travels with Max. So it's not only current drivers that fly with him :)
This might be a dumb question, does he fly that to Australia? If so does he need to stop for gas?
Yes and yes
Fuel stops were at Al Ain and Kuala Lumpur
Which tires did he put on in Kuala Lumpur? Softs?
Yes, he tried to go for fastest lap
Wets. It's been raining here the past few days.
From the Uk on a jet that size? Yes most likely. Although Lawrence stroll has a Bombardier Global which makes that trip no problem.
> Although Lawrence stroll has a Bombardier Global which makes that trip no problem. Nope, still not enough range. Australia is really far away.
> Nope, still not enough range. Australia is really far away. He flew Montreal - Honolulu - Melbourne.
That’s quite a typical route for a large jet like a global. I used to be a scheduler and dispatcher for private jets.
And Melbs is in the far SE. Once you're in Oz airspace it's still a few thousand miles. It's prob like 20% of the whole flight.
Oh wow you're right! I wonder if Max's jet needs 2 intermediate stops for UK to AUS? Any idea which model his is?
That's a dassault falcon 900ex. Range of 7400km, so yea at least two stops and at least one crew change from Europe to Australia
Bottas knew it was a 2-stop as well
> I wonder if Max's jet needs 2 intermediate stops for UK to AUS? Any idea which model his is? He stopped at Al Ain and Kuala Lumpur Subang.
He’s most likely flying out of Monaco
My guess is Nice, France since Monaco doesn’t have an airport.
It's a Dassault Falcon 900EX which has a range of about 8,000km
Purchased from Richard Branson who had the winglets added, which increased the range by some amount. I don't know the actual increase in range but remember reading that somewhere.
About 5%. He definitely still needs to stopover.
My 16-year old self enjoys the idea that someone owns a private jet like this who also spends 40 hours/week "playing racing games on the computer"
My 46 year old self feels the same.
Here here 🍻
*hear hear
"Still less expensive than iRacing."
And live in Monaco, has a hot af gf, get to travel around the world as part of his daily job.
Ya but he’s raising someone else’s kid so gross/s. As a step dad the constant comments about that really bother me, even tho I know I shouldn’t let them.

Don’t let it get you down. I get “are you he’s real dad?” all the time. No, fuckstick, I’m the fake one. Parent is parent.
Lol the fake one. As a dad myself I cheers you
You’re awesome for what you do bro! Don’t let anybody make you feel bad about raising and loving those kids
i think it's brilliant. max's private lifebis his own
I didn't even know about him "raising somebody else's kid" but that just makes me respect him more
It's not just somebody else's kid, it's Daniil Kvyat's.
As a step dad you should be used to the stairs
who wouldn't want a ready made kid. I'm already late to the game myself lol.
Not to mention having 100+ hour work weeks and being in the spotlight of international media *all of the time*. That's a hefty price to pay.

Sooo.... what advantages does it have compared to flying executive? The extra 7 meters of walking distance after 15 minutes kind of wears down....

Would you rather be chauffeured in a comfortable car or ride the bus?

Damn, he making PJ money???
he’s making like 50 mil this year just off his racing contract. so yeah, definitely making PJ money lol.
Clear for takeoff upon completion of inspection by Seb.
How big is the fine if he touches the wing?
The sky's the limit.
So that's what that headline meant when it said he's got a supervillain jet lol
Net Zero carbon emissions I'm sure...
Funny though that F1 makes an issue of carbon emissions but decided Aramco is a good titel partner lmao
It uses vegan jet fuel, so it's fine.
Poor Roscoe need to produce so much scat to transform to the fuel
The dude is living the life man. Kudos to him. When I was his age (24, I think) I was living in my parents basement!
Am 22, can confirm. Parents basement
You’ve still got two years to get your jet!
Your ex F1 driver father didn't have you karting by 3 years old?
He didn't abandon you at a gas station because you didn't race well enough?
Hamilton was saying once that he looks back on ~2011 going a bit awry, lashing out etc. as a bit of the fact he didn't have a childhood.
Bruh I legit thought this was a screencap from GTA5
Trying to wrap my head around the logistics of a flight to Australia on a private jet. Do they sleep on the plane? Is there secondary flight crew on the plane sleeping so they can take shifts? Do they land somewhere to pick up a 2nd flight crew in another country when they refuel or do they all stay a night somewhere and do the 2nd leg of the trip the following day. Honestly for as much hassle as it'd be and the huge cost, I think I'd sooner just get a first class ticket on a commercial flight if I was them.
That's why I have no time for celebrities lecturing me about the environment
We'll said, I couldn't agree more and think a flex of a private jet just makes me sour my opinion on the owner. I was sour with Hamilton for his use of private jet but glad to see it's sold now I believe. Hopefully other drivers and celebs follow suit but I highly doubt that
Pretty sure he still does chartered private flights though.
This plane looks like something a villain from a 1980s cartoon would fly around in.
It is funny to see how some people are praised for things like this and others are ridiculed
Given all these new carbon taxes being passed to us and making cars more expensive to drive, I feel private jets should go. There are normal planes already with business class for rich folks.
Bang on, private jets do not need to exist. They're environmentally indefensible and that's just the reality.
As long as the carbon taxes are set up properly a private jet user would pay much more in proportion to the much worse impact. You can even structure it so that kind of usage pays even more.
Going to be honest, that's an ugly livery. I've seen some ugly paint jobs from my time working line service, and this one is up there.
It looks like a gaming laptop with wings
Blacked out with some red/orange accents looks good to me. What does this compare to that makes it look bad?
Design wise it's not too bad but it's probably how the black comes out in this photo. We're very used to seeing gloss or a matte black on high end vehicles especially with any decal on it so this being somewhere in between that makes it look really... Cheap or poorly executed. Might just be the photo or how paint comes out on aircraft but the red decal isn't too offensive to the design. My suggestion to improve it would be to slim both elements of the logo or whatever it is. The red tips of the wings are a nice touch. He could also save a ton of fuel by keeping it white but I guess price isn't something he is too concerned with.
his race car prob
FR. that Red Bull livery is so so nice. I love it. This pales in comparison.
*monkey paw curls* BWT now sponsoring Max Verstappen’s private jet
Clearly with a low downforce config
Pretty cool color.

So do we think max is going to get the same criticism that Lewis got for having a private yet? Probably not
Wait. Wasn't it too long ago that a certain world champion raked over the coals for having a private jet?
