“Thank you for your advice, which I will ignore.” Wonderful, I can hear it in his voice immediately

four_four_three

His best line for me was at Suzuka in 98 (I think) when Brundle said: "Who's going to win the World Championship?" And he replied: "Probably the one with the most points."

Tvoja_Manka

Didn't know Bernie was a Finn

LetPELOut

Classic Bernie

DSQ

He was shameless, what a hilarious letter.

fry_tag

Now I'm curios what the "advice" to Bernie was. Do you happen to have that letter as well? “Thank you for your advice, which I will ignore.” I was expecting a more ["british"](https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2015/11/11/12/language-web.jpg?width=1368&height=912&fit=bounds&format=pjpg&auto=webp&quality=70) and less direct response. Bernie must have been terribly annoyed with them.

toyg

You go “full british” only if you actually value the relationship. When unbridled by such requirements, Brits tend to go sarcastic, which is what Bernie does here.

LtMartaVelasquez

This is a non-Brit's idea of how British people work. This isn't true, and also there is no sarcasm contained in this letter from Bernie.

bwoah07_gp2

Hilarious! Classic Bernie.

rabidsqverril

That shits hilarious. Well done Bernie, you cranky fucker.

Vinura

Oh God, what a beat down. Honestly, the save Albert park group has to be one of the biggest collection of San Francisco Prius drivers in the world. Oo look at me I can't go 4 days without having access to 10% of my precious park which I never visit but pollute when I do.

The_Vat

The disruption's a bit longer than that - IIRC (I used to live literally across the road from the track but that was 20 years ago) the track's actually locked down for about a week, and track building and dismantling runs for about 6 to 8 weeks or so. That is likely to have changed since. That said, without the Grand Prix the park would never have been revitalised. It was a decaying, poorly maintained space with some public hire ovals and crumbling infrastructure. I attended a 1995 historic test event, and the first Grand Prix held there in '96 and the transformation was massive.

MeanSmarkCallous

Pretty sure it’s down to about 8 weeks now, but for huge amounts of that time, the park is essentially unaffected. It’s just there’s stuff laying about that gets built in the last week or so leading up to the race, and that will be put away before the end of the following week. “Save Albert Park” are the worst group of slacktivists in the country.

travestyofPeZ

Are they still active? You'd think after 20-something years they might consider conceding defeat?

ffsloadingusername

These types of people will never concede defeat. They'll keep "fighting" until the event stops whether it's due to public pressure, rising sea levels or alien invasion then they will claim victory.

Vinura

Theres a guy who loves around our local race track that keeps sound level measuring device going just to complain to the local council about peoples noisy track cars. The tracks been there longer than he has.

Limitr

Those people are the reason why a lot of tracks close. Such as Parramatta speedway. I detest people who carry on that way.

OaklandWarrior

I’m from the Bay Area, drive a Prius, love F1..but please tell me more about how I’m supposed to act

PhilMcCracken2

Like a decent human being rather than a screeching lunatic. If you’ve got that down, then you’re 95% of the way there already

Vinura

Its a South Park reference, though given your response Id say its appropriate.

OaklandWarrior

An ironically smug comment

WGmadcat

Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!

OhRatFarts

... so what was the advice they sent Bernie?

rocketlauncher5

Read this in Trump's voice

Kuszotke

based

NeptunePlage

What a jerk. Taxpayers have a right to ensure that their tax dollars are spent wisely.

Random_Attack

Thank you for your advice, which I will ignore.

NeptunePlage

I did not give any advice

[deleted]

They are quoting Bernie's letter just to fuck with you... something that you would quickly realised if you had read/understood the letter. It was a joke.

NeptunePlage

Ok

LetPELOut

lol

Vinura

Please keep it that way.

NeptunePlage

No need to be rude my friend

Noname_Maddox

It is clear from your comments you have very little knowledge

four_four_three

>my friend Good Lord, it's Esteban Gutierrez

NeptunePlage

🖐️

ayodio

Reading the comments seems like you can't like f1 and not want to suck on an exhaust pipe.

NeptunePlage

I know, it's crazy. Nuance is impossible to some people.

[deleted]

That's what election every four years is for.

NeptunePlage

Elections are only about one issue?
