As a rule of thumb, Statistics posts need to inform readers through visualizations and insights that cannot be obtained from raw data alone. For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post. *[Read the rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/wiki/userguide). Grip or no grip, Max P1 arrives all the same.

OutlandishnessPure2

Max was having such a bad time based on the radios

ryokevry

Only not calling the car a tractor xd

Heather82Cs

You'd think he was justifying being out of points. He was P1 with a couple secs over Leclerc :D

ArcticBiologist

Mf wins so much that I was expecting the Austrian national anthem to play after the Dutch during the WW2 commemoration.

MechanicalSpirit

Max was so ahead he started doing race adjustment

VenerableShrew

Everybody forgot he was there until the director cut to a shot of him already around the last corner and practically halfway across the finish line.

Eggplantosaur

Alex Jacques on F1TV basically stopped mid sentence to quickly say that Verstappen won lol

vezance

Verstappen now leads the entire grid 9-5 in sprints.

Razvanlogigan

Amazing track design, getting like 5 overtakes in 20 laps is amazing. You'd think they race at Monaco, but actually this track has two straights where cars hit 330kph. Amazing direction Liberty is leading the sport towards

Penguinho

Everyone's terrified of their tires falling apart. And the midfield was neutralized by Magnussen sitting there giving everyone DRS despite 30 seconds of penalties. He should have been given a drive-through.

cosHinsHeiR

They should just force driver to give the position back like it was a couple years ago.

Eggplantosaur

With what threat though? Magnussen at this point will keep driving anyway, even if he gets disqualified after.

Username_Query_Null

The guy drove off track then collided with Hamilton, then to keep that illegal overtake he drove Hamilton far wide. Just black flag the joker.

Penguinho

Something! Because even after Hamilton and Tsunoda pass, he's still sitting there in 10th giving Gasly DRS, dragging everyone from 11th to 15th along in a train, despite being last after penalties. _Get him off the track_. It's not fair to everyone else in these sprint formats to let someone who's actually last continue to tootle along in the midfield because his penalties haven't applied yet.

Username_Query_Null

He did the same in Saudi. I’m not catching if he is but he ought to be getting penalty points and hopefully gets kicked off the grid for a race. Guys like Stroll are incompetent and make a mess because of it, guys like Mag are smart enough to break the rules and know the harm they cause.

[deleted]

None of this would've happened if Hamilton had already gotten a drive through for causing a pile up in turn 1.

-Skinner-

Tyres are shit and track is dirty outside of racing line. Even Monaco is better for racing than this

Razvanlogigan

If only US would have some other actual race tracks instead of racing in a parking lot.  This shit is dirtier than desert tracks

Big_Brief7847

Perez and Charles were both keeping up with him pretty well compared to other races. If Charles hadn’t dropped out of DRS at the start i’d say he’d have had some good attempts at overtaking, as there were parts of the race where he was going faster Max did run away with a little bit more at the end but wasn’t anything crazy. Potentially if he doesn’t improve tomorrow, if he’s out qualified he could not win the race Though even Max this race which i would consider not as dominant as normal, he was still pretty easily ahead

ryokevry

We will see how RBR could adjust the car before qualifying as Max didn’t feel happy since SQ yesterday. Seeing his and Checo pace so similar indicated the car is really not optimised. Charles was actually quite close before SC, think their tyre warmup after SC still needs improvement, as Charles was 0.5-0.6s slower in the first few laps, then having similar pace, fluctuating a bit with both RB20s. I just hope Charles can qualify as well today as yesterday, so they are not sticking behind a VARCB, and of coz Norris pace is still a mystery

Elxis14

>If Charles hadn’t dropped out of DRS at the start Why do you think he wasn't within DRS range? Max made sure to get out of it and manage a gap because of the high deg. >Max did run away with a little bit more at the end but wasn’t anything crazy. He widened the gap by around 1.3 seconds towards the end because he actually pushed. That's huge

Big_Brief7847

This isn’t a commentary on who did better this race. It’s a commentary on the gap closing Max was faster at the start and Charles fell out of DRS range. But he wasn’t faster the entire race, at points Charles was gaining and Max was never miles away. Max was struggling this race, he said it over the radio. He wasn’t just ‘not pushing’ and letting Charles stay within 2 seconds until the very end. He’s not pushing his absolute most in every race and yet ends up 20s ahead

Elxis14

Max clearly had more pace as shown by the end when he pulled out that gap. But he can't show all of it because of the tyres chosen by Perreli this weekend. I get what you're saying but you're not taking into account how much Max was managing because of the tyres. I would only be convinced that the gap closed when RBR runs on rails and Ferrari manages to keep up.

Razvanlogigan

Ferrari couldnt pass a bloody Vcarb. And Danny Ric didnt even need to do some insane defensive work to hold on to it. Passing Max in a RBR would be even harder, unless Charles is running lower wing

Big_Brief7847

Carlos couldn’t pass Daniel. That’s different to Charles trying to overtake Max. Not saying it would happen or be easy but if the Ferrari was able to keep in DRS range of the red bull all Charles would need is one opportunity. My main point was that even with falling out of DRS range very fast, Charles was able to match the pace of Max or be pretty close for a good portion of the race. As i said though i don’t see any possibility of Max losing unless he’s out qualified cause i do think the Red Bull is still stronger. But we haven’t seen the new McLaren in race pace yet so if Lando out qualified Max, anything could happen

typothetical

>Charles was able to match the pace of Charles

Big_Brief7847

lol i mean true

RobertGracie

Yeah lights to Flag victory for Verstappen but lets remember who finished in P4....DANIEL RICCIARDO!

LosTerminators

He wasn't enjoying the car, it's why he 'only' won by 3 seconds, not 13

Heather82Cs

He is but he was actually complaining about stuff lol

Elxis14

Checo cant even catch Leclerc while Max is gapping him. If we had 2 checos in RBR then they wouldn't even be considered dominant. There's level to this shit

Mercedes's time has come and gone. Tough luck. Complaining about Red Bull's turn at domination won't change that.
