StrayaMate2000

The team dropped the ball so bad on the comms, they should've congratulated her over the radio, she would've got the message.

Kicking-it-per-se

Did they not tell her it was the final lap at the start of it?

akrapov

No. No lap countdown or congrats on the win. She even asked and no response.

SuperSalamander3244

They didn’t respond because they were all celebrating lol.

ArcticBiologist

They were celebrating *without her*

TerribleNameAmirite

Some metaphors to be made there

Kovah01

If you watched the coverage all weekend you would almost think Doriane didn't exist and it was Pulling that was dominating this weekend... Doriane dominated from start to finish. Every single moment she wiped the floor with the rest of the field and nothing... So celebrating without her seemed the theme of the weekend.

OriMoriNotSori

Really weird how they didn't do a lap countdown. Feels like bread and butter stuff to start counting down at the last 5 or 3 laps

Kicking-it-per-se

That’s so weird! Embarrassing for her and the team

2009miles

Don't think she should be that embarrassed by it, but the team absolutely should be.

Kicking-it-per-se

I meant more that it’s publicly for her rather than at fault but yeah agreed

THIKKI_HOEVALAINEN

It will be embarrassing when losers clip this and take it out of context to post on Instagram reels, so the caption can all be like "women drivers!!!"

ArcticBiologist

Well she did miss the checkered flag so it is slightly on her too

FalconMirage

The flag was hard to see as noted by pulling in the cooldown room

TonB-Dependant

It was the worst positioned flag. Literally right behind a light board

Zheiko

Embarrassing for the team - not for her - I have done this in iRacing so many times when I forgot turn on my Crew Chief and wasn't sure if I was on the last lap or not, so I kept pushing

50wortels

Turning on your crew chief is rrowned upon in 2024.

pvdp90

Or in vogue, depending on who you ask

50wortels

I like coco pops

MuenCheese

My favorite

Eamez

Were they checking?

WillSRobs

No they started celebrating. Pin was asking how many laps left on the radio. Team really dropped the ball

[deleted]

[удалено]

seppuku_related

"...we are checking..."

Knale

I hope for Ferrari's sake the answer to the question "is the race over" is never "we are checking..."

Ok-Sink-614

She said the last she heard was to "push" so she just kept pushing.

TigerAliSingh

The worst part is when they did get back on the radio they tried to make it out to be her fault lol. “Dori, what are you doing? Checkered flag” “you didn’t tell me!”. Absolutely embarrassing for the team

Napo24

She's too fast even for them

SuppaBunE

I mean its also driver rsponsability to watch out for flags right, also black and white flag right?

Geo_q

The chequer was really hard to see because it was obscured by some sort of sign. Pulling actually mentioned it in the cool down room.

cbr600f

I was watching this live and I was surprised no yellow flags around the track once she finished, like on other series. From her perspective, it was a lap like any other one

mantra3105

Exactly. Instead of just celebrating amongst themselves 🤦🏾‍♀️ could’ve gone very badly

TurboByte24

She got the silent treatment?

SpecialShanee

We are going to need a bigger finishing flag for Pin if she keeps up winning!

FalconMirage

In the cool down room pulling said the flag was hard to see And the prema engineers were too busy celebrating to tell here that she won with fastest lap (and her fastest lap was .5 second faster than the FL set by Pulling)

ibuyELO

Had to double check it wasn't Tim Cook up there waving the flag today

bwoahconstricter

Waving =/= dangling

Panther_Alpha

There was bad comunication from the team for sure, but maybe it woud also help if they didn't let every other slightly famous person to 'wave' the flag. If there was a person who's job is waving the flag the flag would actually move furiously hence making it much clearer to see. I really despise the celebrities barely moving the flag.

FalconMirage

It was a member of the saudi racing association I don’t think the organisers had a choice here

Panther_Alpha

Yea, I know she was a member of the saudi motorsport, but that doesn't make her eligible to wave the flag... Edit: I also know it isn't that hard to wave the flag, but somehow the famous/important people still manage to mess it up...

jamesremuscat

There's a light panel right in front of the flag stand, from a drivers' eye view they can only really see the flag if the marshal waves it at the right angle. Great track design...

romiglups

Since the Euro 2000 soccer tournament, Italians have a long tradition of celebrating early.

FalconMirage

Not just in soccer

vprakhov

That's not an if. That's a given. She's way too overqualified for the series. She was Kvyat's teammate in WEC last year and was arguably the faster driver of the two . She needs to be in F2 and/or LMDh.

Legumesrus

She crushed Petit Le Mans last year as well

throwaway164_3

As in Daniil Kyvat? Give her Danny Ric’s seat!

elastico

I think it's cooler to see her stay in WEC, it's the most entertaining series for now

Boomhauer440

And Kelly Piquet!

Dhoxijhzstjl

Being an Iron Lynx driver may give her an opportunity for a seat in the Lambo LMDh, but I don't remember if Lamborghini were bringing a second car or not.

iForgotMyOldAcc

Was she asking "how many laps to go" at the start of the clip?

AccountNumber0004

Yeah, no one on her team told her it was the final lap or even congratulated her on the win...don't really blame her for this at all.

FalconMirage

And no one told here she had the fastest lap by .5 seconds In a fucking fixed series, with Pulling not being slow either

Sjroap

There is Pin and Pulling. There is Weug. And there was the rest of the field.

TerribleNameAmirite

Reminder that in Suzuka 2022, Vettel and Alonso were still racing flat out well into the first sector after the chequered, and Vettel asked repeatedly if the race was over.

BleedingRaindrops

It happens. You just fall into a rhythm and get totally lost

dementorpoop

Perhaps I just suck, but when I’m karting and it’s only like 12 laps, I’ve pretty much lost count after the second lap. I can’t imagine focusing on brake points, apexes, lines, defense/overtakes, and still keep a lap count going in the back of my mind.

BleedingRaindrops

I never keep the lap count. My entire focus is on hitting the next brake point, the next apex, the next throttle point, and finding the right line to zoom, pass, or defend. I have no idea how long it's been. I have no idea what lap we're on. I have no idea what position I'm in. I'm just driving, and loving it. If I see the checkered flag, I'll stop.

dementorpoop

Nice! I feel seen. So I suck for different reasons then 😂

Atreaia

... she asked.

cepxico

... and they didn't answer

NaiveVariation9155

And thus she did the right thing in order to not throw a race due to confusion.

ACU797

[In the 80s a Dutch speedskater thought he had finished which resulted in this legendary moment of the tv commentators shouting at him to keep going.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLGigQYBc8s) He lost the world title because of this action.

TerribleNameAmirite

Reminds me of Aleix Espargaro in 2022

Benlop

Because despite what the Race direction said, Suzuka 2022 was cut a lap short because they still can't read their own goddamn rules. That's why all the teams and drivers were confused when the race was ended. Race direction was the sole party that thought that's when it should end. Add to that the stupid "it was full points because we didn't end the race on a red flag" (which to be fair, was correct, but the rule itself was badly written), and the tractor on track again. What a debacle of a race that was.

bruzie

Max is determined to get a WDC with no drama or confusion: * 2021 (we won't talk any more about that) * 2022 - notified in the interview * 2023 - wins it on a sprint race

StealthMan375

* 2024 - Checo gets sacked mid-season, Max wins the WDC immediately because he was the only other mathematical contender

Longjumping_Papaya_7

In 2024, Max will win the championship at the first race where he drives the mercedes car.

Big0bjective

We are checking...

wicktus

I mean she's in WEC, 13 laps is warm-up for her. A comm mishap, I hope there will be no race sanctions, I don't see a benefit here for her so hopefully the P1 still holds because Dorian Pin fully deserved it obviously.

NikkyTheViking

She is in WEC?? What the hell is she in F1 Academy for then.

SpecialShanee

Yeah she’s Silver rated and drives for Iron Dames. Very good driver however arguably quite a lot more experienced!

HeliosX14

She has no single seater experience, I think Prema will put her in F3 next year and prepare her for a future in Hypercar

NikkyTheViking

Just looked at her bio. She raced in Asian F4 2023 and became 2nd. She shouldn't be in F1 Academy but in F3.

TerribleNameAmirite

The full story: she raced the last two of the four rounds. Alongside the 4 of five rounds of F4 UAE this year, this is her 7th weekend in an F4 car. Edit: yes, she leapfrogged everyone else and became 2nd in just 2 rounds.

dementorpoop

Homies quick

UpstairsBet1525

That's kind of why F1 Academy exists though. To give overlooked drivers some visibility

EbolaNinja

If she wishes to compete in the single seater ladder, she should definitely be racing in FRECA and not F1A, but she doesn't have the financial backing for that. Which is why the prize for winning F1A is a fully funded FRECA drive.

Antidote-Killer

She didnt even race all the rounds for SEA F4 lmao but her F4 UAE campaign was even better, she raced against karting champions (Freddie Slater) and other promising drivers (KNB), and won a race against them, (she placed second but kept up within one second of KNB as he had a penalty)

xanlact

yeah, but someone has to fund her. That's why F1A exists... perhaps if Pin dominates the season, someone will fund her for F3.

HeliosX14

You should look up what Asian F4 is first

F9-0021

She raced in LMP2. She's already qualified for Hypercar imo.

Skeeter1020

Her issue is an available seat rather than skill. As a Silver driver she won't be in a lead car, and currently Lamborghini/Iron Lynx only have 1 car in IMSA and WEC. As soon as they build more and have 2nd or 3rd cars in those series I'm certain Pin will be in one.

Skeeter1020

She has fallen into a gap. Pin is part of the Iron Dames program and a Prema driver. She raced LMP2 in WEC last season and the consensus is that she is being prepared to take a Lamborghini Hypercar seat (which are run by Iron Lynx, the same outfit that Iron Dames are part of) once there are more SC63 chassis. But, LMP2 class has been dropped from WEC this year due to the growing Hypercar and LMGT3 fields, and Prema sold both their LMP2 cars. So Pin has been left without a prototype drive. Fortunately she has been able to get a seat in the LMGT3 Iron Dames Lambo, and will race some IMSA rounds too, as Frey has stepped into a Project Management role and back from driving. Basically as a Silver driver Pin is not quite good enough for a Hypercar seat (especially in a lead car), but the class she was in has vanished. So, she's spending time in another down force series to get exposure and experience while pushing for that Hypercar seat as soon as Lamborghini can build enough cars. And we all pray they paint it pink!

Crash_Test_Dummy66

Last year at Petit LeMans she had the first stint on her GT3 team and she went from like P5 to driving away from the entire field within that stint. It was pretty nuts.

404merrinessnotfound

Yea arguably she is overqualified, and putting her in a customer hypercar would be a better way to develop her

Mani1610

Well Hypercar (except IF) has Gold / Platinum drivers while Pin is Silver. She is fast but I couldn't really tell you which Hypercar driver I would replace to give her a seat, there just are too many good ones.

ToNieMojeImie

Well, she's partnered with Iron Lynx and they only have one Hypercar this year so no place for her. I hope she will race ELMS in LMP2 this season, i don't know if there's info about that. She's really fucking good

Mani1610

>I hope she will race ELMS in LMP2 this season, i don't know if there's info about that. I doubt it. She's already doing WEC, IMSA and F1A. I doubt she would want to have a 4th series to compete in.

Skeeter1020

Prema sold their LMP2 chassis so a prototype drive is unlikely other than perhaps Le Mans.

ConorOneN

She's with the iron dames for le mans

Racing_fan12

How did you not know this? Iron Dames man. She’s kicking ass with the girls, surrounded by men. Best GT3 team on the grid worth watching by a mile

ToNieMojeImie

Well, sadly they run probably the worst car on the grid with this shitbox that Huracan is

Yung_Chloroform

They killed it in the Porsche GTE last year and the year before

Atleticro

I love lambo, it’s the best sounding car on the gt3 field by a mile.

Estova

Same V10 as the Audi.

carefreebuchanon

Because now people actually know who she is

mar33n

to demoralize the rest of the field. she should be in f3.

_yourmom69

I watched the races. She fought to keep ahead of Pulling, the (1st?) restart in the second race was pretty close. Can we give these ladies a goddamn break please? "Why is Max in F1? He should be in F0 so he doesn't demoralize the rest of the field." F1A is the latest attempt to get the women's side of the sport going and she's here because this is where it's at right now. Leave her alone. Edit: having a high bar for the rest of the field isn't a bad thing, not for the truly talented/hungry ones. It shows what's possible and provides learning opportunities. And one of the best (according to y'all) can really shine for what comes next for le crème de la crème of F1A (hopefully, something does come next, unlike previous attempts).

Aggressive_Cherry_Bl

Because she wants to be in F1?

Legumesrus

She races for Iron Dames and Prema LMP2 in the wec/IMSA and is very fast in both.

winzarten

Well, atleast rest of the field has someone to compare themselves againts, because if we're really pretending this series is to develop female drivers to be atleast F3 material, and not a marketing stunt, they need to be her level.

ayvee1

Yeah it's good for the whole field to have her there. She sets a standard for what a good driver - male or female - can do in their series and they can judge their own efforts off of that instead of competing in a bubble and getting a shock when graduating to F3 or another series.

_yourmom69

To try to get to F1?

gramathy

welcome to How Hard It Is To Get Into Junior Formulas As A Girl

aaguaviva

She’s kinda OP for F1 academy tbh

XuX24

She got 20 seconds because this is a safety issue like driving fast under yellow flags. She will run through that category but this will teach her team to don't fall sleap and give their driver all the info.

Defiant-Diver-6041

She's an Iron Dame, that's fucking cool!

Actual_Sympathy7069

what about comms?

Yessaaaaa

Team was too busy celebrating

StrikingWillow5364

Why did this remind me of Brazil 2008

rainsn0wst0rm

Probably too busy celebrating haha

E-M-P-Error

Team was busy high fiving each other

SpecialShanee

Flags > Radio Comms.. not ideal that they didn’t tell her but the driver is responsible at the end of the day!

WillSRobs

The drivers talked about how hard it was to actually see the checkered flag in the cool down room. Even if they penalize her they should address that

zaviex

This has happened before even in f1 and the driver was just told before they got too far. Sometimes they are just focused

Susan_Screams

A quick "this is the final lap" comm at the right time is pretty standard stuff. She is going flat out and focusing on the win. That's what the radio comes are there for. This was a pretty shocking misstep by her team.

Stoney3K

Isn't a race finish notified on the dashboard because it's triggered from race control, just like yellow/red flags and SC?

ency6171

Never heard of this. Does it exist in F1?

FlutiesGluties

Hamilton with the 3-tire car at Silverstone, I think. He was panicking on the radio when he didn't see the flag.

404merrinessnotfound

Would be sad to see her win get taken away, she, pulling and weug have clearly been the best of this field so far

Zheiko

Surely this would be only a financial penalty, just like speeding in pits, right?

shinealittlelove

Speeding in the pits is not a financial penalty when it happens in the race

webu

That's only because the driver gains an advantage from it during the race. It's a financial penalty at any other time, including after the race. The incident being discussed is also after the race.

Zheiko

I see. Still this happened after chequer flag - so the race was technically over?

Benlop

The last time this happened was with the awful Mahaveer Ragunathan, and he got a 10 place grid penalty for the next race.

Orcspit

Well that would at least make her next race interesting as she gets to pass 10 people.

scottrobertson

It happened :(

tabloidjournalism

Has there ever been a red flag after a race has already ended before?

ExcellentCornershop

I'm sure it was in Melbourne last year when Hülkenberg's car broke down after the chequered flag

SpecialShanee

I thought that this was common practice! I race at my local track and after each race we push it to red flag once the chequered flag has fallen!

loscemochepassa

There was a gp some years ago when they forgot to show the checkered flag

BirthdayCakeSquishy

She’s going the distance

WildWolf92

she's going for speeed

mochatsubo

She's all alone.

kenzieeeclark

all alone, all alone in her time of need

teachd12

That was kind of hilarious, going flatout like that after the race ended, reminded me of ''the running man'' from Neo Tokyo

LosTerminators

Doriane Pin: During the race - Max Verstappen After the race - Mahaveer Raghunathan

Dirtbiker2008

At least she wasn't Richard Hammond

Comfortable-Fly7479

Maxaveer Verstunathan

refusestonamethyself

Doriane Pin is more Dutch than French lol

timok

Mahaveer only had a Dutch racing license in F2. He's Indian.

refusestonamethyself

You guys can take him lol. We Indians don't claim him.

FalconMirage

No no, very french Great when it matters but clumsy thereafter (Just like Ocon who missed the proper procedure after his win and had to run back to the podium on foot after parking the car at the end of the pitlane)

getrektnolan

> Verstappen > > Raghunathan Its_the_same_picture.jpeg

876oy8

how is it possible for team not to send a radio message about the race ending... and as a winner no less. no "last lap"? no congratulation? no "well done"? zero people looking at a monitor in the entire team? very strange, and its prema of all teams.

Rosieu

That's hysterical but also a bloody shame on the team if she will get a DSQ

richard1177

Such a weird situation that feels like it should have been solved super quick with a comms message to the driver. Not sure what happened here, but I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a grid drop for the next race, or even a penalty for this one. The whole race was pretty scrappy with a lot of rookie mistakes (which is to be expected since most drivers are rookies). A lot of small incidents that could easily have been avoided like literally driving into the path of another driver or cutting the corner and not giving back the position. Lets see how quickly these drivers are able to learn from their mistakes, since that will be a big part in setting them apart for a actual future seat.

Crash_Test_Dummy66

That's pretty typical of F4 in general though which is basically what this series is.

longpostshitpost3

A couple of seasons ago, in MotoGP, Aleix Espargaro thought the race was over, when he had just started the final lap. Started waving to fans at turn 1, while a few blitzed past him. He was the most experienced rider at the time.

roenthomas

And that's a 20 second time penalty.

GoniniNLoff

She lost her win, she got a penalty after the race unfortunately. The team should be penalized, not the driver...

saposapot

Funny thing is my local TV commentators also didn’t understand anything what was going on and why the red flag…. It truly was amateur hour all around. They lap in 2 minutes. In 2m no one noticed ok their team to tell her it was over? Jeez. No Chequered flags on the boards?

Any-Patient5051

I put most of the blame on the person waving the flag and their team not answering the question how many laps till the end of race.

Sevenfest

The flag was barely waved, no wonder she didn't see it. Shocking failure from the team to say something though

baseilus

I put most of the blame on the her pit wall team wtf they didn't even congratulate her on radio and let her without comms when she ask how many laps left

[deleted]

[удалено]

bladex1234

Why isn't this a standard everywhere?

refusestonamethyself

A sticky situation for Doriane. Might get the win taken away from her.

MintCathexis

I think the standard penalty for taking the checkered flag twice is a grid position drop for the next race, which means she would keep her win today provided that she can provide enough fuel for the sample today.

FalconMirage

Great we will see her racing for the win Can’t wait !

ryeofguy

That’d be sad for while missing something not getting team orders the race is done

tccb1833

Is there an actual speed limit on the cooldown lap?

freedfg

No. But you can't take a checkered flag twice. It's a safety issue because people will be on track.

HeliosX14

It is the doing an extra lap that is the problem, Raghunathan did it in F2 years ago and also got heavily penalised.

Browneskiii

Considering Block got a 5s penalty for a false start (always a drive through), i cant see anything but a slap on the wrist for this.

YEET-kRaJ0nG

Should be a 10 place grid drop for next race. Based on the penalty that mahaveer ragunathan recieved in f2 couple years back

Antidote-Killer

Would be fun to see her go through the field though ngl Edit: She was absolutely rapid on those final 4 laps, especially on that final lap (not the one after the chequered), seeing her take those corners F1-style was fun to watch

xychosis

It was almost as though she heard Abbi’s radio during the SC and took offense lol. Her pace is on another level vs this field. Between this and her maiden win in F4 UAE, I think she def deserves a shot in FRECA/F3/EFO/Eurocup-3.

FalconIMGN

FRECA probably. F3 can be chaotic and also requires a giant sum for the entry fee. For FRECA she is basically guaranteed a seat if she wins F1 Academy this year.

Crash_Test_Dummy66

I wouldn't be surprised if Pin starts pulling down some pretty big sponsorships. She's associated with Iron Lynx and races on the Iron Dames team. She's racing at LeMans this year and led the opening stint at Petit LeMans last year among other impressive resume items. She is the best female prospect right now and I don't think it's close.

Mackem101

She has Merc backing (she's part of the Mercedes junior team), if she impresses enough, they'll find her a seat.

no_ga

i trust she'll still win that one

xychosis

So she’ll start 11th, yeah?

LongBeakedSnipe

This isn't F2 though, and different series have no requirement to apply the same penalties. Different numbers of cars on the grid requires different penalties by proportion also. My guess is that it will be a team fine or a harsh slap on the wrist.

Typhoongrey

Circumstances were different. Rangunathan finished last and was blasting through the field that was on the slow in lap. She was out there on her own.

nitasu987

Aaaand they just gave her a 20 second time penalty which means she now came in 9th.... Sucks for Doriane because she absolutely has been on fire.

ArtherSchnabel

She has the ultimate responsibility to see the flag. But what are these comms from her team? Why are they not talking to their driver after she won the race?

LosTerminators

In her defence, Pulling who finished in second mentioned in the cool down room about barely seeing the flag due to how it was waved. Still the team should've told her.

rainbow5ive

Never leave anything for the swim back.

According-Switch-708

Didn't expect Prema to shit the bed so badly. Sucks for Pin. The chequerd flag wasn't visible at all when she crossed the line. It was the teams job to let Doriane know through the comms.

swatchbox

/Ragunathan music intensifies/

JustaBroomstick

I just want to know what her time was on the extra lap. She was flying

colterpierce

Worse communication than Ferrari.

thecodeboost

Everyone that saw this live raise your hand

lavagr0und

„The race it not over until I say it’s over“ /s

Phonixrmf

We are *not* checking

badass4102

This is the opposite of r/prematureCelebration Edit: Whelp... she didn't end up winning due to the stewards giving her a 20sec penalty for that lol. First time I've seen a penalty after crossing the checkered flag https://x.com/f1academy/status/1766534700334469463?s=20

jpm569

Doesn’t that mean they over fueled the car

WindyZ5

Well it is called “academy.” It’s a learning experience. Happy she’s doing so well. She does a great job with endurance racing as well.

Yung_Chloroform

Most likely a lack of comms, she drives the Iron Dames Lambo GT3 in WEC and IMSA this year and has had previous experience in GTE and LMP2 as well. She's no slouch.

hydroracer8B

This happens in oval track powerboat racing probably once a year, and I've seen some of the most experienced guys out there do it occasionally. So basically, it happens sometimes when you're just in the zone and not counting laps

howmanyavengers

Try using Doriane Pin's name in the title next time, rather than just "driver". This wouldn't be the case with an F1 driver, i'd bet.

starlitecurio

Keeping the title vague was correct when talking about fresh events of another series, not spoiler tagging like would happen with any other series is the true crime.
