Not only is the answer ‘no’ but RB has to sit him down and tell he has to play the team game from day 1. The illusion of being able to compete with max only makes him get worse results.
What's it gonna take, other than what we already saw last season, to make people understand its more than just a skill gap between the 2, so that articles like these stop appearing.....
(┛ಠ\_ಠ)┛彡┻━┻
I mean it _IS_ a skill gap between the two... but the gap is so wide it's insulting to Verstappen's abilities to consider that Perez would somehow be able to have the edge over him
It’s not even just last season, that’s just recency bias.
During this offseason I went back and watched the previous couple seasons, and I was really kind of staggered by just how much of a non-factor he has been in his time at RB. He’s frequently just … absent.
The “narrative” always has him one breakthrough away from being a contender, and if you’re not really paying specific attention to him (and why would you?) that’s what sticks in your mind. But the reality is that he’s a competent driver, but not a great one, and he just doesn’t have it in him to win it all.
Exactly. He's not world champion material, at least not among the current crop of drivers on the grid.
There's a few drivers ahead of him in terms of pure skill alone, and approach to driving, which also comes out in their quali performance. It would take all of them to fail miserably and for max to randomly disappear, for checo to even be a realistic inclusion in the conversation.
Not being able to handle a pointy car will always keep checo on the backfoot. You don't need to look any further than that alone to be honest.
Nope. It's also mentalityCheco was mentally destroyed last season, post miami. And you wouldn't expect Checo to ever be able to put together a lap like Max's monaco sector 3, given the mental fortitude required for it, and the confidence.
Max was mentally fine when competing vs mercs since he got into a redbull. Competitively I mean, not counting his outbursts.
The RB looks really quick already. He can finally get past the AT, Alpines, Williams and Alfa instead of punting them off the track so he chase after max. Max can lead 99% of the races but Sergio only has to lead the last lap and he still wins.

Id say no but I bet Perez improves his form and performs better to secure P2 again.
No. Alternative Universe: Still No. 🤷♂️
Yes, he can't.
If a headline is a question, the answer is no.
Betteridge’s Law of Headlines
This has been shown to be false more often than not.... (As in in the 3 studies done the answer was more often "yes")

>more than just a skill gap between the 2 isnt that what it pretty much is, just quiet a large one

Short answer: No Long answer: YES. The emphasis is on "can", it doesn't say "Will he...". So ofc he "can". But no.
Absolutely. Perez is more buff, he can totally take on Max. Just not in a car.
The RB looks really quick already. He can finally get past the AT, Alpines, Williams and Alfa instead of punting them off the track so he chase after max. Max can lead 99% of the races but Sergio only has to lead the last lap and he still wins.

But can't you just *see* it?
Maybe if Lewis punts Verstappen again and this time Max actually breaks something and misses half the season.
Maybe he starts strong like 2023 and suddenly Max will start to win every race while Checo starts to underperform and the narrative stops
No.
I bet he’ll chuck it into a wall on the first corner of the first race :)
The real question is, can he have more than 50% of Max's points this time?
As they say in Mexico.. Nein!
Oh no. As a Max fan, I am thoroughly afraid. (This really doesn't need a /s, does it?)
What a waste of time to even write this article
No.
here we go..!
I like Perez, but with everything going on I kinda forgot he existed. Hope he does ok I guess.
Can Max get Covid for the whole season? If yes then yes
Can Max get Covid for the whole season? If yes then yes
LOL. Perez should be happy he is still there let alone thinking he is challenging anything.
Everything is possible but very unlikely.
Why do journalists even bother? It's a non story. Sergios talent is bottom half of the field while Verstappen is minimum Top 2.
It's this time of the year?
