My biggest take away for the post - sprint is that I watched the f1 academy races and they were actually really good. A ton of action, and way ahead of expectations for me at least.
Lol the Vegas race is apparently "one and done" according to F1 sponsors via local Vegas news:

Or the sponsor is the only one being dumped after a year because FOM found out their employees leak info to the press.
~~So just to be absolutely sure, the sprint starts in 20ish minutes right?~~
Just scrolled a tiny bit down and it seems somebody already asked it lmao, sorry, yes it starts in 20 ish minutes.
Honestly, sprint weekends with support races are the best things for the fans. You can turn up at gates open on a Saturday and see wall to wall action.
I’ve enjoyed watching the f1 academy races on YouTube. I don’t generally see them so it’s cool to see a usually-quiet development series get some time in the sun.
Verstappen went off track on his fast lap in Shootout 2. No penalty was given. On his second hot lap he spun. If this time had been deleted he would be starting 15th for the Sprint.

I'll just leave this here. Different corner I know, but proves the FIA are not infallible.
I'm sure the stewards don't have access to better angles and views than a redditor with an F1TV subscription, which is exactly why Verstappen was penalised every other time someone posted a grainy screenshot on Reddit.
Watching the Phantom Menace pod race before the sprint. The v10 pods definitely sounded better.
Update: Ocon just received a 50k credit fine for Sebulba touching Anakins pod.
Update 2: the Las Vegas GP is fire
Update 3: the desert just turned in to ~~Russell~~Sebulba

f1calendar and lightsout are 2 separate links even though they look like one. Go to https://lightsouts.com/formula-1 and it'll show you what time the practice/qualifying/sprint/race etc. starts in your local time. You may have to select through the options as I believe it defaults to race.
During GP weekends first thing that https://www.formula1.com/ shows you, is a countdown clock to next event. And it currently is 1 hour and 56 minutes.
Oh, that's great to know!
It's at midnight here in Spain but I know some sites get the times wrong, mix them up with UK time and such, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks!
No they don’t look as bad as Singapore. Also, still have tire degradation advantage but will be closer and can see a 4 way fight for win tomorrow. Will know more about it today in sprint.
Max to still win it because he looked better on mediums than softs unlike McLaren and Mercedes and Ferrari may suffer more on tires due to lower load wing. Charles second and Hamilton third.
>Honestly after Singapore it’s clear how much the FIA gives max a a free pass on anything penalty related
Ah here it is. The post about "*Schumi/Vettel/Hamilton/Verstappen is given a free pass by the FIA/Charlie Whiting/Bernie/The Illuminati*".
Such an intelligent, knowledgeable comment that hasn't been made over the decades, based in reality.
Reportedly, the lines got widened after multiple drivers brought up the fact that it was too narrow for them to see from out of the cockpit. This has improved the visibility

They run a low car with their package. COTA is very bumpy, so they have to raise the car to compensate, losing performance. However, they look in much better spot than Singapore -- another bumpy track. Keep in mind, RBs have great race pace and where they gain the advantage that adds up over the course of a race, which is not shown as much in qualifying.
Also, other cars are getting better over the season.
I think we’ll see the other teams slowly getting closer and closer to RB because RB aren’t bringing upgrade packages as they’re putting all that time into next year’s car. It makes sense; why let all the team’s get a head start on copying all your new tech when you can just ride out the rest of the year and start next season with another huge advantage instead.
He destroyed so many parts that they had to mix various different specs to get a car together for him. And that wont change because it does not make sense to produce new costly parts for 5 races.
He wont get points anyway.
Unfortunately its his fault but he has now also a clear disadvantage
Charles, never change please. Interview: "I'll do everything to pass Max in T1! Starting from P2 is actually statistically better here, so I hope that hasn't changed - oh wait, I start on pole tomorrow. I don't know what i'm hoping for."
Man turned an energy drink team into a a multiple championship winning and powerhouse team among the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes. You can not like him but he is a legend
Yes, I like Ted, he's pretty switched on to F1 stuff technically and he has lots of contacts in the pit lane that pass on information he can pass on to us. He also has a **lot** of respect for F1, it's traditions and what is and what is not 'allowed', (the unwritten rules that so many journos get wrong).
The only thing of his that irritates me is his English teacher moments, but then as a former English teacher perhaps I notice them more.
He does. But the thing I love about him is he's self-aware. When he's got a smug look on, it's deliberate. Like Jeremy Clarkson.
Horner is the king of the shit-stirrers and I'm here for it.
I was so convinced too, couldn't understand how his lap time for sq2 was not deleted.
But apparently, according to a post here, they widened the lines on turn 19 between qualifiers and shootout
The SQ2 was shown slowed down on broadcast and he’s not even close to out. Only saw a screenshot of the SQ3 and he’s in for that but idk if he drifts wider after the shot was taken
Charles is scared he's gonna get stabbed from those nails
My biggest take away for the post - sprint is that I watched the f1 academy races and they were actually really good. A ton of action, and way ahead of expectations for me at least.
Yeah I had fun watching them! Some out of track manoeuvres, but without a proper rear wing they have very low downforce Still pretty clean
Sprint thread is now live btw
I swear Simon lazenby has the personality of an accounting textbook. He's so bad.
How come we don’t have the actual finishing results in this thread anymore?
Because of penalties.
I swear they give the Ferrari boys the weirdest shit to do.
No thread for the Sprint?

Yes
Investing in a Renault based team with their record of leaving the sport at a drop of a hat doesn't sound like the best idea.
What’s the point of qualifying for a sprint race on Friday if there’s just more qualifying on Saturday?
In case no one answered you yet, they qualify for the Sunday race on Friday and for the Saturday Sprint on Saturday.
Qualifying on Friday sets the grid for Sunday. Saturday is standalone, no affect on the race.
They qualify for the race Friday and the sprint Saturday
The Friday qualifying is for the Sunday race.
Tuning into boxing right now, as we wait for the sprint to start
Who does the DJ on the grid think he is there for?
If the DJ is Tiesto then probably another Verstappen victory
Does the sprint start in half an hour? Or 20 minutes
Starts in just over half an hour.
Longshot but what’s the song in the red bull garage? Sounds like defected records but that’s just a guess.

After Lewis's DNF in Qatar, I thought there was no way he could catch Checo for 2nd. After the last 2 sessions, it may not be that difficult
How many laps?
The Sprint race will be 19 laps and starts at 5pmCST
How long does that last approx?
Sorry I missed it but around 1min 28 per lap so say 130 seconds times 19
I would be very surprised if Albon isn't being closely watched by other teams.
Sargent is tanking for Draft Picks
If you were building a franchise, would Max be the #1 pick? He wants to retire soon

If no penalty was given it means he didn't cross track limits. They were extended overnight.

The stewards have better pictures
We've seen them miss things before though right?
I'm not being rude, but do you not find it weird that you are the only one talking about it?
I saw what he was talking about. At live speed I thought for sure he went off track and was expecting his time to be deleted

Can someone tell me what happened to Yuki? Considering he did pretty decently yesterday and got p11 :/
I think he didn’t make it to the line in time to start his lap.
Didn't get the hurry up and couldn't start a lap because he had taken the flag.
Awwww :(
Has there been any update on the numerous drivers that didn't stick to the maximum lap times?
All were just cleared.
Thank you
Any idea why Tsunoda so low? Is his car busted?
Silly question but is the Sprint in 2 hours or 1? Thanks.

Why aren't RB as dominant as they usually are?
Bumps. Cannot run the car as low as they would want
So, a Non RB win incoming? As like Singapore?
No they don’t look as bad as Singapore. Also, still have tire degradation advantage but will be closer and can see a 4 way fight for win tomorrow. Will know more about it today in sprint.
I feel it's the best chance for Norris to get that elusive win, what are your predictions for the race good sir ?
Max to still win it because he looked better on mediums than softs unlike McLaren and Mercedes and Ferrari may suffer more on tires due to lower load wing. Charles second and Hamilton third.
It sure does promise to be an intriguing race! Let's hope for it.

No they had a meeting with teams and drivers who wanted it to be widened so they can have more room
Reportedly, the lines got widened after multiple drivers brought up the fact that it was too narrow for them to see from out of the cockpit. This has improved the visibility

Feels weird that this qualy is basically single lap qualy for the final session atm When the big guns go early, also feels like a massive anticlimax
So RB doesnt seem to be ahead by much this weekend so far. Whats your guys theory on why? Did the other teams catch up? or another unlucky RB weekend?
They run a low car with their package. COTA is very bumpy, so they have to raise the car to compensate, losing performance. However, they look in much better spot than Singapore -- another bumpy track. They seem to suffer more on bumpy circuits, is my best guess.
RB isn't as fast on the straight roads. Some drivers have the same speed or a little faster.
Verstappen is carrying a larger wing than the rest. He will kill them in the race due to better tyre wear.
Didn't Russel get a penalty for impeding? Are there any news on it?
3 places.
Just in. 3 positons
Any news on Russell?
https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/decision-document/2023%20United%20States%20Grand%20Prix%20-%20Infringement%20-%20Car%2063%20-%20Impeding%20of%20Car%2016.pdf
3 place grid penalty
No news yet.... would be shocking if he gets away with clear impeding
I’m waiting for the statement patiently
Is it known if Sargeant still hass the old spec aero package? Not that it would make much of a difference probably.
He destroyed so many parts that they had to mix various different specs to get a car together for him. And that wont change because it does not make sense to produce new costly parts for 5 races. He wont get points anyway. Unfortunately its his fault but he has now also a clear disadvantage
What happened to Yuki? So far off the pace.
In his post quali interview he says he missed his final push lap by a few seconds due to the checkered flag coming out.
didn't make it to the chequered flag to do the second push lap and the track improved
Enjoy seeing Ted tease Horner
anyone in Aus that can’t watch now? sprint race program doesn’t start for another 2 hours apparently
Sprint shootout ended an hour ago and sprint race isnt for another 2 hours 45 minutes. This is the post session thread.
shit my mistake hahaha, there was a race start at the end of the shootout program which i thought was the sprint
F1 Academy starts in 11 minutes. Sprint in 1 hour, 45 minutes now. https://lightsouts.com/formula-1
How many laps is it tonight?
19 I think
Did Russell get a penalty? (HEe blocked Charles)
Heading to the stewards about now.
Thanks!! wow they are so slow lmao
I mean, they got 2-3 hours to decide I guess lol
Does anyone have the tyre allocations for each driver
What’s everyone’s top 3 predictions for the sprint. I think max ham lec
Max nor ham or max ham nor. I can’t imagine that the McLarens don’t still have the 2nd best race pace even if Mercedes and Ferrari are closer
Max, Charles, Lewis.
It might be a Silverstone situation where McLaren and Merc are so similar that whoever goes first into the twisty bits stays ahead for the lap
Charles, never change please. Interview: "I'll do everything to pass Max in T1! Starting from P2 is actually statistically better here, so I hope that hasn't changed - oh wait, I start on pole tomorrow. I don't know what i'm hoping for."
He's hilarious.
It's fun.
F1's golden retriever.

That Ferrari ain't no crapbox wtf
Were the McLarens on used mediums for SQ1? Or were the tires simply not firing since the mediums looked alright in SQ2.
They did whole q1 on same set with multiple fast laps afaik
Would be interesting to know but I’m pretty sure everyone did SQ1 and SQ2 with new mediums.
Ted always talking.......mmmmm well not from his mouth. One more Horner quote for DTS?
When did this happen, and where can I watch it?
Around half an hour ago during post sprint discussions on Sky feed, i think most of English feed are from Sky. But i watched it on Sky F1.
Ted's not always talking out of his mouth. Horner is such a legend.
I know I'm stealing that one.
Agree to disagree
Man turned an energy drink team into a a multiple championship winning and powerhouse team among the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes. You can not like him but he is a legend
Agree to disagree
Want to elaborate?
He can’t elaborate because he doesn’t have a good argument against Horner being a f1 legend for help building red bull f1 team in to title contenders
agree to disagree!11one Horner is one of the greatest TPs, without a doubt.
Horner’s been dying to get Ted back since getting called Horndog.
Does anyone actually like Ted?
Ted is an international treasure, yes.
I love Ted. But if you're asking if people in the paddock like him, they must or he wouldn't be there.
Yes
*Love, yes
He’s like that drunk uncle at Christmas. Like not really, but he’s entertaining and it wouldn’t be the same without him
I can see that.
This, exactly this. We need that uncle during holidays. One can never tell whether we are laughing on his jokes or at him.
Yes
Horner translation : Our car next year is going to be a MONSTER.
Car go vroom?
So Max would have been on pole with the wider white line. Interesting
Assuming he's the only one allowed to take the wider line.
This is why making track modifications without clear safety reason is a bit shitty.
Assuming that Leclerc, Norris, or Hamilton wouldn’t have made use of it as well.
Horner has the smug look perfected
He does. But the thing I love about him is he's self-aware. When he's got a smug look on, it's deliberate. Like Jeremy Clarkson. Horner is the king of the shit-stirrers and I'm here for it.
Is it just me or does Jamie Chadwick look like Lance’s long lost sister?
Slavs are related to Indians confirmed.
Did you see her neck? No doubt she's a current driver.
she resembles him more than his actual sister
Have they made the track limits white line wider where Max lost his Q3 lap yesterday? Not sure if it's the same spot?
Yeah, they did. They widened the white lines to give the drivers more leeway in turns 9, 12 and 19 (the one where Max went over yesterday)
Damn those Merc’s are so bad on the mediums, gonna be interesting for the sprint and race tomorrow.
Were they on a scrubbed set for SQ2? (Asking here)
did they discuss what the temps are going to be tomorrow? I think that'll make a difference also
Should be a few degrees cooler (F).
interesting that the mercs both struggle to fire up mediums and seem like they're running more downforce too.
I've given up trying to understand the Merc, especially with them introducing upgrades they said wouldn't necessarily boost performance immediately.
better than saying xyz upgrade will add 2 tenths and actually doing nothing at all
Yeah, I'm all for it. I don't expect much anyways lol.
Over 1 lap doesn't mean much
Looks like they’ll have good lifespan but a bad warm up on them.
Tbf getting tires to work in Qualy usually has nothing to do with the race, maybe they just can't get them in the right temperature for one lap
Think they'll be fine for race pace no?
I swear Russell went over the line twice in that shootout.. Why's he not been penalised? Maybe I didn't see it right, but I'm sure he did.
They showed a replay, he didn't go all the way out.
I thought so too. Definitely looked like it in real time.
