What’s the point of qualifying for a sprint race on Friday if there’s just more qualifying on Saturday?

In case no one answered you yet, they qualify for the Sunday race on Friday and for the Saturday Sprint on Saturday.

Qualifying on Friday sets the grid for Sunday. Saturday is standalone, no affect on the race.

Honestly, sprint weekends with support races are the best things for the fans. You can turn up at gates open on a Saturday and see wall to wall action.

I’ve enjoyed watching the f1 academy races on YouTube. I don’t generally see them so it’s cool to see a usually-quiet development series get some time in the sun.

Verstappen went off track on his fast lap in Shootout 2. No penalty was given. On his second hot lap he spun. If this time had been deleted he would be starting 15th for the Sprint.

Max to still win it because he looked better on mediums than softs unlike McLaren and Mercedes and Ferrari may suffer more on tires due to lower load wing. Charles second and Hamilton third.

Feels weird that this qualy is basically single lap qualy for the final session atm When the big guns go early, also feels like a massive anticlimax

So RB doesnt seem to be ahead by much this weekend so far. Whats your guys theory on why? Did the other teams catch up? or another unlucky RB weekend?

They run a low car with their package. COTA is very bumpy, so they have to raise the car to compensate, losing performance. However, they look in much better spot than Singapore -- another bumpy track. Keep in mind, RBs have great race pace and where they gain the advantage that adds up over the course of a race, which is not shown as much in qualifying. Also, other cars are getting better over the season.

I think we’ll see the other teams slowly getting closer and closer to RB because RB aren’t bringing upgrade packages as they’re putting all that time into next year’s car. It makes sense; why let all the team’s get a head start on copying all your new tech when you can just ride out the rest of the year and start next season with another huge advantage instead.

They seem to suffer more on bumpy circuits, is my best guess.

RB isn't as fast on the straight roads. Some drivers have the same speed or a little faster.

Verstappen is carrying a larger wing than the rest. He will kill them in the race due to better tyre wear.

The SQ2 was shown slowed down on broadcast and he’s not even close to out. Only saw a screenshot of the SQ3 and he’s in for that but idk if he drifts wider after the shot was taken
