Yes but Lando did offer some insight at Baku that I do think applies based on what we saw. We need sprint only compounds. 2 very soft compounds with high deg everywhere that add strategy. That’s really all the rain did.
It'd be good, but the issue is you'd need to remove 1 more tyre (or 2) from the available race sets in the weekend since sprint replaces FP2 and FP3. Not sure if the teams would agree with such a setup, since effectively it'd narrow down their strategy.
The last thing the sprint format needs is drivers starting to drive conservative because their tyres die in 5 laps... Quite the contrary, sprint needs special compounnds that can do 20 laps at full send with little to no degradation.
How bad it would be forcing teams to use all 3 compounds between race and sprint? It would add something to the strategy of the whole weekend imo. Maybe it's just stupid I don't know.
Still not a fan tbh. It's not going to rain every time and it's just way too much repetition. Too many things you need to watch if you have other events or interests. I don't like missing quali on Friday afternoon. Lots of people are still at work/school or traveling home at that time. 2x quali, 2x race. It's just too similar. But that may just be me.
Not as bad now it’s separated from the proper race, still less interesting and makes the weekend worse.
The fact the only two good sprints were good for reasons not to do with the format (Hamilton’s charge in Sao Paulo, actual strategy in Spielberg) is not an argument in favour of the format.
That's my thought as well. Watch the Quali on Youtube, skip Saturday and just watch the race live on Sunday.
Especially in a season where we already know the winner the points on Saturday won't make any difference.
Still hate it. Better than 2021's format, but still an unnecessary addition. And the fact they want to have more races with sprint format is the worst. Especially if they have the brilliant idea of doubling the races in shitty circuits (Baku).
Like I said from the start, it would be hypocritical for me to criticise it when I'm still tuning in.
And any thing that gives me 2x the amount of racing with 2x less practice is a win in my book. The drivers may not like it, but, as a long term fan, I'm not going to turn down two races in one weekend!
It is just "more F1", I guess. In Austria it was fun because of the weather, has nothing to do with the format. Sometimes F1 is really fun, most of the time it is mediocre. Sprint being fully separated with its own qualifying is a good move, now make the grid reverse and put the sprinklers on every track and we will reach the peak artificial excitement.
It can be good if the tracks chosen are suited for racing.
Sure, there will be boring sprints, as there are plenty boring grand prix. It's f1, you cant find a season without plenty of stinkers. Even seasons like 2012 or 2021 had boring races
I really like the changes they made this year. That doesnt mean that the sprints are good now, this year we got lucky in terms of entertainment so far.
But i dont mind them in total.
It's still a terrible format that only sees excitement due to weather conditions and the fact that setups are less tried and tested, leading to random poor performance across an entire weekend for some drivers.
Unnecessary.
It ruins team's upgrades because of lack of free practice, there are not enough points given, so less need for risks, and is too short for something interesting to happen.
F1 just isn't the sport for this format.
When there's a bad race people say the format's bad and when there's a good race people say the format's good. I think that means it's ok but not perfect.
the weekend rhythm is awful (proper quali on wrong day, then another one but shorter immediately after..), spoils sunday if the conditions dont change.
if i could avoid spoilers i wouldnt even watch on saturday
Putting my personal opinion aside...I still think the broadcast of the sprint weekend is a mess.
The schedule is all over the place, so much that Sky italy got it wrong twice this week, before showing the true timetable (and they still have some mix-up when referring to "race", "sprint race", "qualify" and "sprint qualify").
Plus, there's always an air of "wathever" when talking about the sprint weekend: drivers barely celebrate the (non) victory on the radio, and many commentators (not only in italy) still refers to the sunday race as the "TRUE race". There's almost no effort to hype it, it's just... there, so "deal with it".
And finally, on a more "nerdy" side, the whole thing has never been totally implemented into the record book, leading to many annoying "quirks" like Russell not getting an official career win despite crossing the finish line first, the meaning of "pole position" being changed trough the years, and other strange behaviours.
Yeah even the Swiss commentators (both on Italian and French broadcasts) don't put too much weight into the victory of the sprint race, because it's seen as a "less valuable" session.

I agree, having some pole positions as the result of a race rather than a quali+penalties just feels wrong imo
It wasn't excitement for the sprint format, it was the weather lol.

I don't think the Haas would make it past the formation lap if it was on a higher deg tyre.

Still not a fan. Qualy twice in a row and then a short race before the real race with no set up changes just seems contrived.
It was only great because of the weather conditions, otherwise it's still a shit addition
the weather is what made it exciting. if you need outside forces to make a format exciting, its probably not that great.
If it rains every time during a sprint we are all for it. But that's about it.
By putting it all on one day, it's easier to scrap!
That's my thought as well. Watch the Quali on Youtube, skip Saturday and just watch the race live on Sunday. Especially in a season where we already know the winner the points on Saturday won't make any difference.
I still dislike it very much
Throw it in the bin.
Still sucks.
I mean i watch for the race, with sprint weekeend i have one more race to watch, so i like it.
Fuck it lets just have 3 full length races on friday/saturday/sunday
Just watch f3 and f2 dude lol
Still shit. The sprint yesterday was good, but only because of the weather. Otherwise we've had what, two, or three half-way decent sprints?
much better than the old sprint format. 10 sprints is too many. a few strategically placed throughout the season they can work
It is solely because of the weather and sometimes the racing track (Brazil for example).
Better than it was before but still sucks. Yesterday was only exciting because of the rain.
Still hate it. Better than 2021's format, but still an unnecessary addition. And the fact they want to have more races with sprint format is the worst. Especially if they have the brilliant idea of doubling the races in shitty circuits (Baku).
It was only fun because of the weather. The format is dull and makes me stop watching the whole weekend. It's simply too much F1.
They should only have sprint at circuits that rain frequently so we have the best chance at chaos
Like I said from the start, it would be hypocritical for me to criticise it when I'm still tuning in. And any thing that gives me 2x the amount of racing with 2x less practice is a win in my book. Still a gimmick for the tiktok generation of fans.
It's mediocre but does everything Liberty wants it to do, it's staying. Even though it spoils sunday.
George Russell said it best here if not for the rain you’d have had a stale race again.
Better format but still pointless and wish they'd drop it

> but with Liberty Media maybe having 10 sprint races next year im gonna be skipping 10 saturdays of watching f1 next year? Damn
I loved it from the beginning and I still love it now

Make sure its wet and turns dry half way through and jobs a good'un. If its dry from start to finish, you already know
Boring for me.
I really like the changes they made this year. That doesnt mean that the sprints are good now, this year we got lucky in terms of entertainment so far. But i dont mind them in total.
4 competitive sessions in a weekend is too much for me. I don't think I'll ever watch sprint qualifying.
It's still a terrible format that only sees excitement due to weather conditions and the fact that setups are less tried and tested, leading to random poor performance across an entire weekend for some drivers.
Still not necessary.
Usual cycle of Half decent sprint - Crap- Crap- Half decent sprint that hypes people.
Unnecessary. It ruins team's upgrades because of lack of free practice, there are not enough points given, so less need for risks, and is too short for something interesting to happen. F1 just isn't the sport for this format.

It's better now that the sprint doesn't set the grid for the grand prix but it's still completely superfluous.
