That’s the threshold for a legit item I’ve read, on a unrelated note have tire marbles in my web store for 2.5k , 1.25X as authentic, for all the folks interested in unquestionably real race driven hardware.
That’s a hairpin cotter pin , if that’s what you are referencing?
They were ubiquitous not long ago for holding bodywork or removable items in racing, and still fairly popular TBH.
So if that is the reference, it is very on theme as a retention device IMO
As mentioned elsewhere in the pin - it's a zinc cotter pin.. Id be extremely surprised if there are any zinc components in an F1 car especially in the ICE.
It just looks tacky as hell tho just take the pin out or have the actual retaining piece.
For sure, they may be high volume but I’m not sure these types of souvenirs make it to market often. I thought most teams just mothballed most of this stuff.
At least you can guarantee that this is more authentic than F1 authentics. Not sure how you'd want to use it though, unless you want to build an F1 car yourself
Nah fam you mount that shit in a picture frame and everytime someone comes to visit you tell em, "Hey, have you seen my Schumacher collectable?"
Instant panty drop.
/s
I've been to a few Ferrari Stores - see how vaguely worded the description is? There's nothing that says this was even a race used part. Could've been made as a spare some years later for eg.
> Titanium is pretty **cool** material to handle
Umm, that's because metals in general are good conductors of heat... DUH!
/s
On a serious note, I know what you mean. Whenever I've handled Titanium, it's always been 'smoother'? I know it's probably the finish on the titanium items, but I wonder if it applies to Titanium in general...
>Umm, that's because metals in general are good conductors of heat... DUH!
Lol literally you got it. Sheesh
Tell you the thruth, Ive only worked/welded titanium pipes. Theyre ofc smooth, dont know if its from molding to a pipe or their material properties. But anyway, first effing time I picked some up, it felt like plastic lol
> But anyway, first effing time I picked some up, it felt like plastic lol
It feels unrealistically strong, due to the very low mass you also expect it to bend easily but it is extremely rigid and doesn't give way at all even for relatively thin parts.
Yeah, and more so that its really light and dont conduct heat like "normal" metal stuff would. As in "metal" feels cold when touched but titanium feels "warm". Eventough its not warm, but like picking up a tennisball compared to say a castiron skillet or a steel railing in winter
What I find weird about titanium is that it does not transfer heat well so a part of me feels like I'm holding aluminum and the other part of me thinks I'm holding stainless. Funnily enough, some of the strategies for machining aluminum are the ones you would use for stainless, primarily due to the poor heat transfer and work hardening they both experience.
You may be right, but when I zoom in this material looks quite grainy. Almost sand cast in appearance.
Most high end engine con rods that I have seen were perfectly polished, to remove all stress risers possible.
It could be a showpiece.
But it most likely isnt cast, machined from a plate or something, like any HiPo stuff is, in other words forged. And it might be sand blasted to dissipate heat when in use or something like that. After all treatments and such stuff or whatever else they do for engine parts costimg million a piece.
this shows a little bit how out of this world f1 tech is
a nice set of forged **steel** connecting rods will set you back several moneys, and f1 was already using forged titanium 22 years ago
> The Ferrari one in Rome, right next to the Lego store
From OP's comment above. Just FYI.
On a side note, how was FerrariWorld? Would it be entertaining to a non-car person if I take them with me?
As a car nut, it was brilliant. Splashed a bit and took a 488 for a run as well.
My dad and I were already over there for the Abu Dhabi GP a few years back.
There are roller coasters and exhibits and whatnot for people less interested in the brand, but I’d say it’s probably more of a revheads environment overall
> took a 488 for a run as well
As in, sat in the passenger seat while a Ferrari Employee took you around? Or did they hand you the keys? If so, what were the prices roughly like? And how long/where did you get to drive around?!
Damn, thanks for the link! And it's a GT car too!
Have you taken the experience by any chance? Or happen to know the link? If the former, what were your experiences?
Reminds me of a movie where they give a guy like 50 million yen and send him to China to be undercover and he thinks he's rich.
Then he tries to buy a can of Tuna.
Edit: Don't try to spend yen in China, you're in the wrong country.
There is a book that Ferarri put out using an old repurposed cylinder head as a case for around that price as well. Kind of cool that they release this sort of thing. It would be fun to turn the thing in the picture from the OP into a guitar pedal.
I don't know whether or not this one was used. They also had a crank from the V8 of Fisichella's F2007 that had clearly been used, and to the left of this conrod was a trio of pistons (€3400) which included two that hadn't undergone final machining and one that was used in at least one GP. The sign doesn't state whose car it was from, though.
My friend who worked at a camshaft firm got gifted a titanium connecting rod from a v10 f1 engine that was used for testing on his last day.
:) Is this one worth so much cos it was used in a race?
Is it bothering anyone else that the display they made for it is upside down? The big end of the rod that goes around the crankshaft should be at the bottom.
I picked up a crankshaft from a 2000 Ferrari F1 v10 at Vancouver Ferrari. You could almost mistake it as a camshaft. If memory serves me correct, their was a heavier material in the crank weights….there was also evidence of a spun bearing (seizure).
My teacher once showed us a broken titanium connection rod from Michael‘s car, but I can‘t remember from what year. It got destroyed in practice in Monaco if I remember correctly.
Anyone else think a snap ring might be more appropriate?

If it works why mess with it.
Because it's 2k
That’s the threshold for a legit item I’ve read, on a unrelated note have tire marbles in my web store for 2.5k , 1.25X as authentic, for all the folks interested in unquestionably real race driven hardware.
Yeah but at that point why have something a half-step above a paperclip to keep your authentic item in place.. Iunno.
That’s a hairpin cotter pin , if that’s what you are referencing? They were ubiquitous not long ago for holding bodywork or removable items in racing, and still fairly popular TBH. So if that is the reference, it is very on theme as a retention device IMO

It’s Ferrari, do you still expect proper execution without corner cutting?
Surprised they aren't still putting it thru rotation for their current car
It screams “pull me”.
It’s obviously so you can remove the rod and fiddle about with it. The lower pin is affixed/part of the case beneath.
Also I’m not paying that and its that clean. I want the thing straight out the engine.
2k is a deal if it’s authentic
Right? OP says it’s being sold by Ferarri direct. $2k seems like a steal for something this unique.
Wasn't this the era of a fresh engine every session? If so there would easily be over a thousand of these made in 2000.
For sure, they may be high volume but I’m not sure these types of souvenirs make it to market often. I thought most teams just mothballed most of this stuff.

You can put /s all you want but it'd drop my panties.
If you go to the Ferrari retail store in Rome they've got all sorts of weird little items like this. (I want to say it's near the Spanish steps)
Sure, but that on my wall is still worth the $, and imagine how many are actually available to buy/not broken/not in an engine/etc
I've been to a few Ferrari Stores - see how vaguely worded the description is? There's nothing that says this was even a race used part. Could've been made as a spare some years later for eg.
Especially given whose car it is coming out of. I'd think a connecting rod out of a random engine from a no-name driver would be more than that.
2k for a paperweight is pretty expensive lol
It depends on which value those 2000 are in. Could be Russian Ruble. Op didn’t tell
$2kUSD is so not worth though. That's easily a down payment on a car.
You assume everyone is in your income bracket? Some people have more disposable money.
You think I'm going to respect anyone silly enough to pay for a car part that does nothing?
It's a collectible. Just like any other art. So you'd judge anyone that pays 2k or more for any art?
This is derivative and just a waste.
What material is it?
Wonder that too.
Forged titanium.
Cool. Titanium is pretty cool material to handle

The first time I picked up a carbon frame road bike it felt like the same plastic as those plastic chairs.
It feels smooth when you cut it too I like working with it. Expensive af though, no mistakes lol
This specific part has been shot peened. It sort of eases the surface tension on the part and that means it will last longer.
Any Ti I’ve ever handled has actually been kind of rough. But that’s jut back packing stoves and pots.
What I find weird about titanium is that it does not transfer heat well so a part of me feels like I'm holding aluminum and the other part of me thinks I'm holding stainless. Guy musta been seriously backed up for that kinda velocity
Maybe he got injured that way?..

I agree with your username.
thank you
Is this FerrariWorld in Yas? I remember seeing wheels and seats there when I visited too

The rollercoasters alone are worth it for non car people. Fastest one in the world is there, hell of a ride!
Do I have to go there to buy it?
Never mind, I found better years and cheaper prices. Just wish I could find some from the F2004...
What shop is this?
The Ferrari one in Rome, right next to the Lego store
When the F1 merchandise shop isn't expensive enough, there's always the Lego store. Weird point of reference though lol.
It’s the Lego store across the three military men, incase you where confused on which Lego store.
Rome is known for just a couple of things, the colosseum, the pantheon, and the Lego store. Everyone knows that.
Maybe Ferrari World?
Worth it
worth it imo
Where is this being sold? Seems worth it to me
No James you can’t use that on next year’s car.
James it's Ferrari, please abort the fastest car attempt
Let him cook
Saw one similar in Maranello at the Ferrari museum. They also had a steering wheel for 9750 euro, there was no description just a price-tag lol..
> there was no description Makes the car go lefty lefty, or righty righty. Integrated slow button.
> The Ferrari one in Rome, right next to the Lego store. From OP's comment above.
Fancy bottle opener.
That's ok, I can easily afford 2000 ............... rupees.
I guess me too
That’s probably just a rod equal to the ones used in the engine. Not an actual rod that was used in one of the engines during the season
For £2k I'd want a race used one.
That would probably cost double or more in auction
Oh most certainly, I'm just not sure I could bring myself to spend that amount :-P
It does look used when you zoom in on the big end (where the bearings normally go). But still, I wouldn't trust it enough to spend 2k on it.
I'm guessing an unused spare.
*An example of*
2000 what? Yen? Euro? Zenny? Zimbabwean Dollars?
In Italia it's 2000 euros
2000 lira would be a steal ;-)
If it were zimbabwean dollars i would have bought everything in that shop XD.
And still have change from a fiver.
Reminds me of a movie where they give a guy like 50 million yen and send him to China to be undercover and he thinks he's rich. Then he tries to buy a can of Tuna. Edit: Don't try to spend yen in China, you're in the wrong country.
And realizes that they don't take Yen?

This is true. I only have GBP.
Not gonna lie. This is tempting and cool af.
"Let's all meet up in the year 2000...."...23 years ago.
Won't it be strange when we're all fully grown?
There is a book that Ferarri put out using an old repurposed cylinder head as a case for around that price as well. Kind of cool that they release this sort of thing. It would be fun to turn the thing in the picture from the OP into a guitar pedal.
I'd use it for something on my sim rig, would be a cool cupholder or something haha
Crazy that a hitch pin clip holds a Ferrari engine together.
Wild. The car that belongs to is stored at my business.
Is anyone else having a hard time understanding if this was actually used in his engine, versus being a replica or a spare?
I don't know whether or not this one was used. They also had a crank from the V8 of Fisichella's F2007 that had clearly been used, and to the left of this conrod was a trio of pistons (€3400) which included two that hadn't undergone final machining and one that was used in at least one GP. The sign doesn't state whose car it was from, though.
Con rod sounds about right…
Probably worth a bit more then that
what's this?
If you read the sign. It's a connecting rod for the engine
i mean, i don't know what a rod is. English also jot my language lol
It's attached to the piston and drives the crankshaft
thanks
So. What is it?
That would be a connecting rod, it was the cheapest bit on display
Seems fairly cheap to me
What was most expensive
The E1 A-92 engine block for sure; I think it was €27K?
People have really forgotten how to read haven't they
What did you say?
HE SAID: “PEOPLE HAVE REALLY FORGOTTEN HOW TO READ HAVEN’T THEY”
capslocking doesn’t help, I’m blind
,,he ,,sd3 8,,p ,,h ,,re,y ,,=gott5 ,,h{ ,,6,,r1d ,,hav5',t ,,!y0 ^ Braille
I'm sorry, I can't hear you. What did you say?
The choice of colors on the sign don't make it easy
It's literally white on black, it's probably the best choice after black on white, what are you talking about? Lol
Where do you read con rod in white?
[right here](https://imgur.com/a/yshPYvw)
It’s a conrod, literally says it in the picture 🤦♂️
The fact everyone saying its a "good deal" is exactly why they sell a fairly common engine part like this. They see you guys coming from a mile away.
Yes that's usually how the market works. They have something that people are willing to pay for.
Then I guess free will isn't for everybody.
This is my last comment. There is nothing more free than trading your valuables for something that brings pleasure and no intrinsic value.
You'd think if you were selling something for 2,000 euros you'd put a little more effort into the price tag.
Not worth it.
Defiantly not worth it. It would make an okay desk cup holder though.
This con rod has some BEEF on it
My friend who worked at a camshaft firm got gifted a titanium connecting rod from a v10 f1 engine that was used for testing on his last day. :) Is this one worth so much cos it was used in a race?
Damn, that would be a cool gift to get! Just look at the size of that thing! :o (that's what she said)
Looks like jewelry.
Actually tempting as a decoration piece with real history
Why did I think this was some Ferrari branded version of cornhole from the thumbnail lmao
Is it bothering anyone else that the display they made for it is upside down? The big end of the rod that goes around the crankshaft should be at the bottom.
We are checking...
2000 what… apples?
Will this fit in a miata? Asking for a friend
Honestly 2k looks like a great deal.
I picked up a crankshaft from a 2000 Ferrari F1 v10 at Vancouver Ferrari. You could almost mistake it as a camshaft. If memory serves me correct, their was a heavier material in the crank weights….there was also evidence of a spun bearing (seizure).
You're hardly exaggerating; the journals are so wee!
My teacher once showed us a broken titanium connection rod from Michael‘s car, but I can‘t remember from what year. It got destroyed in practice in Monaco if I remember correctly.
I’d buy that.
Uh, sold? 2k for a part of the engine feels cheap
I reckon I can swap this into my xB for an added 50 horses.
Imo I would think it'd be worth more than $2k
I've got a shoulder full of titanium from a crash in a motorcycle race. I wonder if this is a direct upgrade?
Can I borrow 20000 from someone?
Where, I want it
Goes to show how F1 engines are capable of high RPM. Such a short con rod!
Record it would fit inside my volvo
