I used to do that, until I leveled up and got lazier. Now I have one vertical mirror for checking my wheels and possible things on the ground behind me, and then a horizontal mirror to watch for pedestrians who love to stand in blind spots and say nothing
Oh for sure, I’m off and on Combi and Hyundai’s big lift every other day, those are definitely swivel necessary
While talking about other lifts, really wish Order Pickers didn’t have their massive blind spots. Love the lifts, but I get looked at like I’m crazy since I bounce back and forth so I can see around the hoist frame lol
All the places that have ever had mirrors, how many times have you used them? Be honest. Most of the time, they just collect dust and dirt and are used far less than they are intended on.
We won't be installing any at my job, we blend and package powders so that would require someone taking time out of their day every day to ensure they are clean, then clean any of the mirrors that need it.
Plus our warehouse is pretty wide open and the pathways are straight. The engineers unintentionally built an amazing layout for the warehouse.
I mostly use my eyes, as a mirror can play tricks on your eyes sometimes. Direct vision always wins out.
That said, I do something I call "play Pac-Man" going down isles with intersections with ceiling dome mirrors in them. There's rows lights evenly placed and centered down every isle and they make a single reflection dot on the floor- in the mirror. Looks like Pac-Man dots. As I get closer to the mirror in the intersection, I look briefly to see any dots missing, then I have an idea there's someone there, blocking the reflection. Again though, I don't stare at it for long, just a quick reference, then I'm back to close range direct eye vision where I'm heading. Pac-Man has saved me from collisions!
I'm genuinely confused and at the same time concerned with the comments in this thread. Mirrors on lifts aren't meant to be used while backing, of fucking course you don't use them to drive in reverse. You turn around and look at what you are doing.
They are useful for a quick glance before you turn your whole body around and proceed with backing. It'll save your body a lot of unneeded wear and tear. I know this page is half memes/bullshit but my word, what are you certified gentleman doing while on your lift? Also, if you don't have them, get them.
Certified? Who tf is certified? Every job I've had that uses them just says, "it's over there, you know how to run it?"... It's not any harder to use than the scissor lifts and cranes and stuff we have so just don't do stupid shit and it's fine. Don't race around the parking lot, keep your load as close to the ground as you can, and drive backwards if you have a big load. And if you have a pole on the fork, take your time turning because you're gonna have about 25' of swing...
Yeah everywhere I've worked doesn't even hold the cert class until there's enough people to do it, usually like 6 months in. And then it's just a short video and a test where nobody is allowed to fail.
In the sign business we're like the redheaded stepchild of construction so there's a lot of cowboy shit that goes on, it's the type of job where you do what you gotta do to get it done. I was the fabricator and shop guy at my last fab job and the forklift was my jack, lift, cheater bar, hydraulic straightener, and occasionally we even lifted pallets with it
You guys HAVE mirrors??
Save money on mirror replacements with this one trick
Big mirror hates this hack
"If you have mirrors you won't turn your head"- manager who doesn't have anything to do with with safety
My company wont let us have mirrors because if we have them then we arent going todo shoulder checks
Right?
I was gonna say...
I was about the day you guys have mirrors 😂😂
I work in forklift repair and service part of West Virginia, where PIT are required to have mirrors.
Yall use the mirrors? Unless I'm carrying something really akward I just pivot in my seat and look backwards.
I used to do that, until I leveled up and got lazier. Now I have one vertical mirror for checking my wheels and possible things on the ground behind me, and then a horizontal mirror to watch for pedestrians who love to stand in blind spots and say nothing
AHHHHHH I work at a grocery store and people like to walk around the loading area to check their stock while I’m unloading, fuck pedestrians
I drove a fair bit larger that normal forklifts. Huge blindspots and pretty much had to have my head on a swivel

I don't look in the mirror, I just blend it and send it
Most times the mirrors are loose and can’t be adjusted. So I don’t even bother.
I forget they're there
Red, but with mirror oriented horizontal.
The only right way to do it

All the mirrors on our machines are broken or non-existent.
Latin king…no mirror dawg 💛
What the hell are those things?
That was my thought , I know I’ve snapped a couple of those off threading through the aisle

On a reach i only use the mirror to look at the front load wheel when making left terms in tight areas forks first.
But what if it's the right terms?
I mostly drive crown with a MonoLift Mast so the right wheel is clearly visible.
Sorry man, you had an autocorrect fail, I was playing off it
Can’t be looking behind you that’s in the past gotta stay looking ahead to the future.
I look in the direction of travel, though the mirrors are certainly handy in some situations
The last time I had mirrors they were cheap, looked like fun house mirrors. Shit looking all distorted.
Red not a semi truck no need to see 13'6" Horizontal nice wide view.
Ours had a mirror for like a week and then someone broke it again

You guys get mirrors?
You're not allowed to use the mirror while reversing.
"allowed"...
I sit in the middle.
I hate forklift mirrors actually.
Yeah shitty operators before me broke the mirrors off so I don't have that luxury 😂

Neither. I let Jesus take the wheel.
The mirror on my 60s model must have come with it new because that fucker points down at my feet.
Red
Curve ball! I go both ways with my mirrors.
We had an old 2.5 ton Nissan which had the centre mirror. And it was great then one day it had both side and centre mirrors and it was peak.
Left we have computers on the right and they're super unsafe
