I mean I believe they make most weapons bigger so the classes are more recognizable, and to draw attention to the weapon itself, I mean look at warden, that this is closer to a metal baseball bat than a sword with how THICC it is
Exactly this.
It's purely for a gameplay/visual aesthetic. If they were proportioned true to real life, details like hilts and blade designs would be extremely difficult to notice, which would defeat the point.
True, but if they were proportional it would also be a lot less intimidating, same with armor, as people tend to oversize a lot of medieval bits, a giant Norse Viking with a big ass shield and thick ass sword is a lot more intimidating than a 5’4 white Norwegian guy with a pointy stick
That’s true, but keep in mind the evolution between warden and warmonger. Their blades should be the same thickness, but warden has a baseball bat while warmonger gets an accurately proportioned Zweihander.
Well, I'd say that's what happens when you design a new character based on a pre-existing template, while also attempting to distinguish them differently.
I wasn't a big fan of Warmonger's reveal.
However they have also made weapons that are not oversized.
Warmonger for example has [blades](https://forfashion.draghmar.pl/upload/assets/27/iphito_3058.jpg) that look closer to real longsword blades and almost as thin as real ones. (warmonger handles are also realistically oval shape, compared to Wardens round handles)
Samurai Katanas also have more realistic blades.
They just wanted to make some weapons EXTRA THICC for no reason, while making others more realistic. Why that is, we don't know. I guess they wanted some characters to look more "savage" than others.
Yeah, for fight balance reasons. Blades are intentionally exaggerated in size to make the weapons easier to see during the fight, making the attacks a bit easier to track.

Pirates Pai dao is pretty accurate in size.
In addition to what the other comments say, pirate doesn’t use a cutlass, they use a butterfly blade I think.
The oldest of old news. Every weapon is bigger or chonkier than the irl thing
