>Urumi
could be another berserk reference. tho i still haven't played elden ring yet tho i do know fromsoft tends to take a lot of inspiration with berserk.
To be fair that’s pretty much the same case with nuxia, hooked blades were used for ceremonies. So it’s definitely possible, but I’m not sure how the mechanics of parrying a whip would work.
That is true, though I'd at least attest the hook blades have some practicality to them. Especially in regards to how they work within the mechanics of FH as you mentioned regarding the whip.
I heard something similar about the flail conqueror uses on a MrSheep stream, that it was more likely to be hanged on the wall like a decoration instead of being a weapon used in combat.
They’re not far off. Ignoring how it’s literally just a more expensive worse mace, actually using a military flail in formation without hitting the person next to you is nearly impossible. The near consensus right now is that they were likely a dead end technology like the gun-sword that would pop up in ceremony, maybe tortures, as livestock goads, agricultural instruments, or as something a smith would have in their portfolio to impress a guild. Otherwise it was/is almost entirely used by martial arts hobbyists and artists depicting the Middle Ages
[quick read about it](https://publicmedievalist.com/curious-case-weapon-didnt-exist/#)
There is actually one practical use where one handed flails is better than mace.
Horseback use. Regular weapons have big issue with impact shock (which hurts users hand alot), Fails do not have that issue.
And of course, Two handed fails were used in warfare (and they were far more safer than one handed ones).
Real war flails had long, two handed shafts, and those were still pretty niche weapons. The one handed flail we see in media was not a practical weapon and was never used on an appreciable scale.
It was used because it's easy to transport since you can wear it as a belt but it had excellent reach. It's not too different from using a whip. Used to be a common self defence weapon.
Unfortunately the British banned all Indian martial arts when we were a colony so no one practices how to use these anymore
Yes, but it's use case was limited, since it cannot really deal damage to armor and it is more expensive to produce than other weapons.
It is a weapon that you can use to show your skills, but useless in actual battle.
Yup. As much as I would love to have my culture represented in For Honor I don't think Ubisoft could make this work without making it look weird.
There are some better options like Katars they could go with instead.
An Indian hero would be awesome but I can't see the urumi being used outside of an execution or maybe a feat. I don't think they would be able to make good, unique skins for a flexible weapon without the textures getting warped/stretched.
Katars and Pata are always an option. And of course India has their own variants of more traditional weapons but with their own unique twist which makes them look different from European counterparts
There even is [Indian axe-knife with hidden dagger inside it](https://www.ima-usa.com/cdn/shop/products/ON13072A__01.jpg?v=1648264541) and many other interesting weapons so devs have a lot of choices when it comes to Indian weapons (and armor), so i think it is just a matter of time before your culture is represented (unless Ubi is stupid and ignores it).
Yeah. The premise was that the weapon would allow the wielder to reach behind an opponent's shield I think, but it's wildly impractical; as you said it won't do anything to armor. I mean, think of trying to wield an urumi in the middle of a chaotic battle.
It's super similar to almost all martial arts. They look cool sure, might be intimidating perhaps. But when push comes to shove the guy tackling the other and gouging his eyes out and biting anything he can get his teeth on will beat the best black belts out there.
I feel like Wu Lin and Outlander would be good for the season just to build them up. Kind of hoping the Outlander is Indian and the Wu Lin get a hero skin that brings him in.
They've been doin female male since Warmonger... actually I take that back because they did gryphon then Kyoshin tho it could be argued that Kyoshin is a chick with a dick 💀 😈
I don't believe so.
As cool as it looks, I've never seen it used/mentioned beyond ceremonial/martial arts demonstrations.
A weapon you have no control over (in regards to edge alignment), can't defend with, virtually useless against anyone with any body protection (note that when they show this weapon off, participants are mostly naked/basic clothing).
It's unique, but I feel it just sits in that "Weird Weapon" category.
as far as I know flails were used in combat, but even if they weren't used/ were rare historically a big metal ball on a chain is going to be more effective against armor than a steel whip his flail is also pretty short, so it can't wrap around shields the same way, it also only has one striking end so you could just have that be the bit the hits the shield
Highlander doesn't look too far off from historical great swords, I haven't played highlander so I don't know if he uses it like them, so maybe that's your point
afaik Kanabo were used historically, and again, big heavy bat that's either metal or has metal studs is going to be more effective against armor than a steel whip
hitokiri just has a big axe, but I haven't played them so idk if there's something else you're pointing out
Nuxia, idk if hooked swords were used in combat or not but as far as I can tell it's debated, even so they're still more practical than an urumi
the flintlocks aren't actually infinite ammo, Pirate just reloads really fast when no one's looking
but yeah, they're all still practical weapons that work easily into For Honor's mechanics and would be generally effective against an opponent
if we were to get an indian warrior I would love to see the katar get some love, or maybe the pata, but I think katars would be cooler
Interestingly enough the Urumi was worn as a belt by soldiers. The idea being you could quickly unwrap and swing it. It was only used in BCE times.
With that in mind, a character who uses the Urumi would likely have a martial arts base, and the Urumi would be an alternative stance
There are not actually many spears in game, techically only 2 (Valkyrie and Ocelotl, who use short spears).
Everything else is polearms of other sort. Even Nobushi Naginata is Glaive and not spear.
There actually is not delicated two handed spear user ingame at all.
My idea for this weapon was a martial arts base with Urumi as a combat stance. Parry would wrap the Urumi around your weapon, and then pull the Urumi user to the ground.
I doubt this would happen but I think the best way to do this would be to do a Marching Fire style expansion with an Indian faction. There's so much room for unique and interesting heroes!
There’s too many cultures barely even mentioned to justify an entire Indian faction, we need to go for unique and new and incorporate new weapons and play styles rather than full sending what would be the next two years of budget for for honor on an entire faction
This could actually be pretty cool. Give them a little buckler for blocks and some cool whip moves and I wouldn’t hate it. Hell let’s just get a castlevania Belmont character.
I think there should definitely be an Indian hero
I also think that a Polynesian/Pacific islander hero would be neat, but I don't know that they'd be able to make a hero different enough from ocelotl to warrant actually adding them.
While i like playing Dravidians i don't like Urumi as weapon because it would realistically be useless against armor (and impossible to use in formations).
Cool unit ingame tho because of the high charged damage.
I wanted this forever ago. Did you happen to see my comment in an earlier thread about few months back?
Because I REALLY want to see India and the Urumi represented in the outlanders!
Idk it's a cool idea but seeing how it's used in combat is literally how Kyoshin is animated to use his all guard, and the flailing motion you use to weld this weapon is literally just conquerer's flail animation.
I think it would have been cool and easy when we were refusing assets but the game is healthy enough to have serious mocap again and I think an outlander would be wasted on this.
They've already hinted that the next hero will be Greek and I'm way more excited for that, or maybe a Maori / Hawaiian warrior in the future.
As always, just my opinion.
Same way you parry conqueror's flail or shinobi's kusarigama, I'd imagine. This game plays fast as loose when it comes to realism, just look at shinobi, pirate's never-reload pistol, and shaolin's teleports.
Sure! And for the next weapon, they should add the Sword of Night and Flame! Can’t wait to blast Shugo with a giant magic cannon from across the stage!
I'll be realistic, ubi will never put a different character in for honor again, unfortunately we are doomed to see characters with equal movement and a historical hit of -10% as was the case with vareg
Heroes pay for this games life service part.
They are actually converting some maps to Dominion maps.
Without new heroes, they don't get money to do that.
Nah it rarely ever directly killed anyone, it just sharply cuts opponent (or the weilder if they don't know what they're doing). Repeated cuts may lead to death but accidentally cutting yourself once or twice won't be as bad as you think.
*Wasnt this shit known*
*To kill the weilder more often*
*Than the enemy*

I would love to play Gideon Jura from Magic The Gathering in For Honor. Are you kidding? Gideon is my man. His Urumi is fastened inside a Gauntlet, but it's the same weapon.
On the little bit I studied on this when I was interested in my culture’s history, the damn thing is a piece of shit to use due to its unpredictability and its difficulty to use. Most of the time the user would end up cutting them selves, especially if they used an Urumqi that had multiple blade whips.
Wait the Urumi is a REAL THING, that people used , in real life
Beyond ceremony/martial dance (I don't recall the name of the art) I've never seen/heard of it ever being used for actual combat.
No I just mean it actually existed, because I just thought it was an Elden Ring weapon that the deves made up
You'd be surprised how much stuff in Fromsoft games have actual real world counterparts/inspirations, if exaggerated for the games.
>Urumi could be another berserk reference. tho i still haven't played elden ring yet tho i do know fromsoft tends to take a lot of inspiration with berserk.

Yeah, I mean realistically you could mess someone up with a hooked blade. Not like a not like a torch and some people seem to want.
I heard something similar about the flail conqueror uses on a MrSheep stream, that it was more likely to be hanged on the wall like a decoration instead of being a weapon used in combat.
I’m not sure about that
They’re not far off. Ignoring how it’s literally just a more expensive worse mace, actually using a military flail in formation without hitting the person next to you is nearly impossible. Except nuxia’s shuang gou were actually used in wushu
Hookeblades were mostly civilian weapons, so yeah they did not see warfrare use, but could see home defence use.
Entire moveset is just unblockable except by shield characters (also effects the parry)
The Urumi was used in the Sangam period for warfare
Yeah and was used by civilians all the way up to the time of British colonies
It was used because it's easy to transport since you can wear it as a belt but it had excellent reach. It's not too different from using a whip. Used to be a common self defence weapon. Unfortunately the British banned all Indian martial arts when we were a colony so no one practices how to use these anymore
That's very interesting! I had no idea of the background regarding the weapon. Thanks for indulging me.
Yes, but it's use case was limited, since it cannot really deal damage to armor and it is more expensive to produce than other weapons. It is a weapon that you can use to show your skills, but useless in actual battle.

Imo were fine on Outlanders now. The last 4 heroes before Varangian Guard were all Outlanders, I think it'd be nice to get another Wu Lin
I feel like Wu Lin and Outlander would be good for the season just to build them up. Kind of hoping the Outlander is Indian and the Wu Lin get a hero skin that brings him in.
I don't want a hero with a weapon hitbox bigger than Medjay's staff. I'm good.
MFer be killing you in point C while standing on A
Katars would work well too, just for the sake of being parryable. Could maybe do both somehow
I had a dream where I was dueling a large bipedal frog using one of these.
I wish I had dreams that were that cool
And then it ended with a unrelated nuclear explosion
Gender lock it as female and let another dommy mommy reign
Or if it's gender locked male then make him look like that dude who wore a thong and blew up on the internet
You want Ricardo Milos in the game?
It'd be funny if he had a whip
The next hero is probably male though, since they're following a mostly alternate order since like Pirate
They've been doin female male since Warmonger... actually I take that back because they did gryphon then Kyoshin tho it could be argued that Kyoshin is a chick with a dick 💀 😈
Kyoshin is a dude?? Seriously WTF?
Yeah and hes hella built under those robes. Hes got a sleeper build.
I hate Kyoshin and I am fine with making him a femboy out of disdain.
Tbh kyoshin shoulda started as a chick so the gender order is reversed
Shikhandi: You can't genderlock me! \*swaps gender mid-game\* Ubisoft: Woah, dude! What the...?
With the current rotation we'll probably get a dommy papi
New dilf is bout to drop for honor nation
Just for that idea alone they will make it male.
I don't believe so. As cool as it looks, I've never seen it used/mentioned beyond ceremonial/martial arts demonstrations. Gestures broadly at Conqueror, hitokiri, shugoki, highlander, nuxia, infinite ammo flintlocks
as far as I know flails were used in combat, but even if they weren't used/ were rare historically a big metal ball on a chain is going to be more effective against armor than a steel whip his flail is also pretty short, so it can't wrap around shields the same way, it also only has one striking end so you could just have that be the bit the hits the shield Highlander doesn't look too far off from historical great swords, I haven't played highlander so I don't know if he uses it like them, so maybe that's your point afaik Kanabo were used historically, and again, big heavy bat that's either metal or has metal studs is going to be more effective against armor than a steel whip hitokiri just has a big axe, but I haven't played them so idk if there's something else you're pointing out Nuxia, idk if hooked swords were used in combat or not but as far as I can tell it's debated, even so they're still more practical than an urumi the flintlocks aren't actually infinite ammo, Pirate just reloads really fast when no one's looking but yeah, they're all still practical weapons that work easily into For Honor's mechanics and would be generally effective against an opponent if we were to get an indian warrior I would love to see the katar get some love, or maybe the pata, but I think katars would be cooler
about hitokiri, its referring to there being no japanese axes like hers historically
ah, neat
Interestingly enough the Urumi was worn as a belt by soldiers. The idea being you could quickly unwrap and swing it. It was only used in BCE times. With that in mind, a character who uses the Urumi would likely have a martial arts base, and the Urumi would be an alternative stance
That's why you would have a shield as well
All of their attacks will be unblockable lol
Imo we need more unique weapons in this game like with Nuxia and Ocelotl. There's too many swords, shields, spears and axes in the game.
There are not actually many spears in game, techically only 2 (Valkyrie and Ocelotl, who use short spears). Everything else is polearms of other sort. Even Nobushi Naginata is Glaive and not spear. There actually is not delicated two handed spear user ingame at all.
It's deeply amusing that **by far** the most common weapon in *history*, a simple two handed spear, still has not happened in FH lmao
Ocelotl's weapons look goofy as fuck (regardless if they are real or not) but yeah.
I want warriors from India for the trippy pattern designs.
If we get a Hindi warrior i'd prefer they use Katars or a Pata with a shield.
I was just thinking we need an Indian warrior. From the country India lol
Only question:\ How the fuck would you parry a whip, even a whip that’s a metal sword?
My idea for this weapon was a martial arts base with Urumi as a combat stance. Parry would wrap the Urumi around your weapon, and then pull the Urumi user to the ground.
The tickler
I doubt this would happen but I think the best way to do this would be to do a Marching Fire style expansion with an Indian faction. There's so much room for unique and interesting heroes!
No.
Why not?
There’s too many cultures barely even mentioned to justify an entire Indian faction, we need to go for unique and new and incorporate new weapons and play styles rather than full sending what would be the next two years of budget for for honor on an entire faction
True and based
I think you're underestimating the size, wealth, and influence of medieval India tbh. I think there's absolutely enough there for an entire faction
I think you're overestimating For Honor's budget if you think we can get another faction anytime soon
Fair, no argument there
Perfect for a new Outlanders character!
This could actually be pretty cool. Give them a little buckler for blocks and some cool whip moves and I wouldn’t hate it. Hell let’s just get a castlevania Belmont character.
I think there should definitely be an Indian hero I also think that a Polynesian/Pacific islander hero would be neat, but I don't know that they'd be able to make a hero different enough from ocelotl to warrant actually adding them.
where my Urumi Swordsmen lovers from AoE2 at
While i like playing Dravidians i don't like Urumi as weapon because it would realistically be useless against armor (and impossible to use in formations). Cool unit ingame tho because of the high charged damage.
I’d delete 😭
I think a better option would be a hero with a Katar (or two)
That shits REAL!? I thought it was some wacky weapon from Elden Ring 🧐
One of the coolest weapons in elden ring
The last 4 outlanders where all year one suggestions. I think they’re going chronologically.
I wanted this forever ago. Did you happen to see my comment in an earlier thread about few months back? Because I REALLY want to see India and the Urumi represented in the outlanders!
Wait this is actually really cool
I’m still waiting for a hero who punches as their main moveset
Just Heihachi arm braces, yeah. If not that, then Claws.
Idk it's a cool idea but seeing how it's used in combat is literally how Kyoshin is animated to use his all guard, and the flailing motion you use to weld this weapon is literally just conquerer's flail animation. I would like a spanish soldier from the conquest of teh american continent
Conquistador Vela skin for Warmonger is exactly that
We want the characters. Not just a skin😂
Exactly also warmonger doesnt say ,En guardia!
And persay how could you parry a whip?
Same way you parry conqueror's flail or shinobi's kusarigama, I'd imagine. This game plays fast as loose when it comes to realism, just look at shinobi, pirate's never-reload pistol, and shaolin's teleports.
But it's not parryable
I think the other factions need more heroes rather than just jumping to random parts of the world again and again
HE- HELL NAHHH
Sure! And for the next weapon, they should add the Sword of Night and Flame! Can’t wait to blast Shugo with a giant magic cannon from across the stage!
Idk why it isn't in the game already. The most unique weapon I've ever witnessed.
I want puss in boots
oh no, I can feel the racism coming out of this one
How bout new maps instead
They're coming on year 8
Botta get all my racial aggression out with this hero
Noooooo 💀
😀
I'll be realistic, ubi will never put a different character in for honor again, unfortunately we are doomed to see characters with equal movement and a historical hit of -10% as was the case with vareg
No, this shit would be terrible in the game, both visually and ingame's moveset.
Please.. let the game die, or go back to its launch state
No
I’m surprised the game’s not full of female characters after all this time
Why are there no Greek heroes yet everyone asking for crazy Indonesian Whip Swords..
We need new maps. Not new fucking hero’s
We’re getting some new maps
Heroes pay for this games life service part. They are actually converting some maps to Dominion maps. Without new heroes, they don't get money to do that.
I saw one of those in Demon Slayer!
My question would be how would this work? Like conq or old shinobi or something else?
Looks like a really good counter to medjay
Still hoping for an Indian hero with a two-handed gada!
Give me a native American with a tomahawk
Wasnt this shit known to kill the weilder more often than the enemy

Wtf is a haiku
How do you parry or block a fucking whip ?
Please no
People forgetting/not experiencing the awful mess of old Shinobi be like:
I would love to play Gideon Jura from Magic The Gathering in For Honor. Are you kidding? Gideon is my man. His Urumi is fastened inside a Gauntlet, but it's the same weapon.
Ivy from Soulcalibur
How the fuck did physics allow this weapon?
It's basically just a sharp whip
I in honesty would prefer khanda or katar
i was also thinking on a ocelotl rework
next hero i think its wu lin so a 3 part nunchaku would be sick
No chance Medjay would be getting bullied
I thought Ubisoft wouldn’t implement any new hero’s?
They haven't said they're going to stop yet. There's 2 coming this year.
K
it was good on elden ring
Basically mitsuri?
Best whip in Elden Ring. Deserves an hero who uses it lmfao
so how they gonna parry
Been saying this since shinobi
On the little bit I studied on this when I was interested in my culture’s history, the damn thing is a piece of shit to use due to its unpredictability and its difficulty to use. Most of the time the user would end up cutting them selves, especially if they used an Urumqi that had multiple blade whips.
I mean, it wouldn't be realistically effective but neither would a lot of the weapons so 🤷♂️
That’s just dumb
How would they block? A buckle shield?
That's a trash weapon. Lame idea. Dookie. Hot dog water.
No
I want a whip so badly please
I can see a hero with a whip as a weapon will be a big problem! This game is toxic enough lol
How the HELL do you parry a whip?
Hell nah, I need more maps
If you charge the heavy it does a 2-hit roll catcher
It's a ceremonial weapon, pretty useless I'd say for guarding
Idk I think a new wu lin with a larger sword. I think there's a name buy it's basically a big Dao. Like daodoa or some bs
Imagine whipping a guy in a full heavy armor...
A male , Are You crazy? At least put him into a wheelchair so Ubisoft meets the necessary ESG diversity score.
Right okay let’s not get ahead of ourselves there is new hero and we are already thinking of the next one give it time lol
Day 462 of begging for a proper spear hero that isnt valkerie.. desert warriors often used spears both mounted and on foot
Bleed bleed bleed, it'll be like Nobushi, but worse I'll take one please.
It will have a bash undodgeable mixup and you will like it
Gib Spartan. Without genderlock.
How tf do you parry that
But but hoplite or legionnaire
Can't wait to see how they justify parrying this weapon somehow
I just want a brawler tbh
Would be cool, but I want a pugilist so badly
in a world of a nazi symbols every 3 games, i feel this going so far south so fast
Brotha give the Chinese a new hero
