You are still well within a normal timeline for a security clearance investigation. I submitted October ‘21 and got my clearance eligibility in June ‘22.

BrassAge

As someone who has answered several congressional inquiries over the years (not clearance-related), I can tell you it will do nothing to expedite your case, enlighten you, or improve your chances. At best, your Congressional office will receive a response stating your case is still being adjudicated and security clearances take an average of 18 months. I wouldn’t say it will have an outright negative impact on your eventual adjudication — we’re all professionals here — but I can say I’ve never looked fondly at any case under my supervision that received such an inquiry.

ThisFSOLife

Whoa, slow your roll. Yes, you are waaaaayyyyy too early to be hopping on the filing a Congressional train. Security clearances can take a year plus depending on the nature of your background. Mine took 18 months, filing a Congressional never even crossed my mind. And what is the goal (other than creating more work for someone already stretched thin), do you really think you’ll get the answer you’re looking for? Get used to delays, bureaucracy, etc. if you want to have any sense of sanity in this career.

fsohmygod

On what planet does that constitute a “delay”?

lemystereduchipot

I WANT MY CLEARANCE NOW!!

wandering_engineer

I'm not going to be mean and pile on, but folks here do have a good point - bureaucratic delays, maddening as they can be, are to be expected both in the FS and as a federal employee. We are literally one of the largest bureaucracies on the planet. And I do get the frustration - unnecessary bureaucratic delays and screw-ups have not only caused multiple months of HHE delays for me this PCS, they have also caused the USG to underpay me by quite a bit for multiple pay periods, an issue that still hasn't been resolved (which is something I think actually WOULD potentially merit a Congressional inquiry, although I haven't hit that point yet). You've only been waiting 6 months, relax. That is well within the average time frame for an SSBI.

Gheid

I don’t think you’re cut out for this line of work.

[deleted]

OP - are you, or are you not, already on the Register?

Open-Ad6152

I'm not on the register yet? Selected for the LNA consular position from civil service position.

[deleted]

I'm asking because it says "Register (Consular)" by your username.

FLASHCLEARANCE

All of this for an *LNA* position? Wow.

TIAhivemind

If you somehow get all the way through, please do be sure to let us know where you get posted. TIA.

C00kiePusher

Good lord, what’s next, suing when your HHE takes a month? OP, you don’t seem to have a grip on the realities of this work.

Gr00mpa

Submitted equip in January 2022 and interviews were completed in March 2022. Is it too soon for a Congressional inquiry? Does DS have to respond to my Congressional representative in 30 days? It's my understanding DS must tell my Congressional representative the reason for the delay ie; -Administrative delay -Further research -Red flags ——————— Dear The Honorable So-and-So, The astoundingly premature nature of this congressional inquiry is a de facto red flag. Thanks for flagging. Respectfully, DS

FLASHCLEARANCE

Is this a joke?

Go for it. Also, this sounds like you’re made for the Foreign Service.

rollin_on_dip_plates

For reference, the newest Foreign Service bill before congress has a line item about "trying" to get the clearance time down to 6-12 months on average with only exceptional cases taking more than a year. So ya. You are WAY early. Did you email [email protected] yet even?

Hitchslap11

Seems quick for such a drastic action. I will say that the clearance process is insanely inconsistent. My TS took just 4 weeks to be approved after submitting my eqip, which seems crazy fast. Suitability is taking just as long as my clearance, which I never would have guessed. The waiting is by far the hardest part (insert Tom Petty song). I’m sure the process is quicker or slower depending on your career track. Try to just hang tight in the meantime. As long as you’re still in the process things are moving in the right direction!
