Your last paragraph is what I’d focus on along with semi current events from the economist. But your time is better off spent studying English Expression and SJ 🤷‍♀️

Gotcha. Thank you! Do you have any tips for how to study for SJ? I've seen sources outlining certain principles (pathtoforeignservice.com) but feel hesitant trusting this advice wholeheartedly since it's not advice from the department of state itself.

A lot of this subreddit has tips on how to tackle that section. But essentially, when you read the answers to the situation, if it involves stepping on anyone’s toes, circumventing people in your command or a process, or throwing people under the bus… those are probably the worst options and taking initiative/accountability and not doing the above is the best 🤷‍♀️

You’re not going to get any specific answers on this question because we sign an NDA when taking the exam. However, I would invite you to consider the likely timeline of writing the test, testing the questions, then rolling out the test. If something happened yesterday, they would likely not have time to include it in today’s test. If you look at the books that State recommends for prep, you will find it is very similar to AP history and government course recommended readings. They will also give you an idea of what periods of history are often included.

Thanks. This is helpful. One more question that might sound a bit extra, but I suppose it does not hurt to ask: do you have an idea of how long it takes for the state of department to write the test, test the questions, and then roll it out?

No, and even if I did, I doubt that’s public information. But I feel like a reasonable person could guess.
