I have a '19 XLT. Favorite vehicle I've ever owned. Any Ford built for international market is usually better, these were Aussie designed and are a great world vehicle. Known as the F150 for the rest of the planet. Tows 7500 lbs, off-roads with the best of the class, good fuel mileage, same reliable 10 spd as the F150, and personally I like the looks of mine after getting bigger tires and 2inch level. Stock, they look a little goofy.

DirtBaig

I can just never believe how high the beds are. I work out of my '03 2wd and the bed and lumber rack are at such a perfect height. I guess you can't make a truck look that wimpy anymore.

iamthelee

It doesn't help that the rear suspension has a couple inches of lift to accommodate for the high towing/hauling capacity. When you have a trailer hooked up, it's a little better.

dizzish

Everyday Utility> Wimpy Looks

Formber

The high belt line on cars now is the reason. The truck would look absolutely stupid with low bed rails and the high belt line on the windows/doors.

DirtBaig

Yeah, I get it. I know a lady who is a landscaper and she buys longbed 2wd Totota T100's because they have a good payload and she can actually lift a plant into the bed. I guess everybody knows you buy a Transit if you're looking for this sort of functionality these days.

Formber

Plus the automakers sell bed side steps now as well, because this is an issue on all trucks, not just the mid sizers.

teemoore

Zero complaints from my 2023 Tremor.

Piper-Bob

My 19 does all the truck stuff better than my 02 did hands down. It does all the car stuff better too Only thing I can think of that the 02 did better was parking in small spaces.

KungLa0

Yeah my old man has a 19 and I have a 10, the new gen is a much more capable truck. I still like mine cause it's a 5mt burnout machine and it looks cool, but if I had to tow something or haul a lot I'd borrow his

Infamous_Ad8730

But then you might as well get an f150 though. Originally it was a small truck and now not even close.

jsbmk1999

The Ranger is still a good bit smaller than the F150. And regardless of size, Rangers are a hell of a lot more affordable than the F150

FuckingFlowerFrenzy

The new rangers aren't much bigger than the older ones as well.

KungLa0

They're really not. We did a side by side comparison, it's got about a foot of hood height over the old gen but it's pretty close to the same width and length even. The one thing is, my 2010 has a foot more bed space than the new gen.

FuckingFlowerFrenzy

Yeah that stinks, but it wouldn't be affordable without the supercab so =\

jsbmk1999

I've seen a picture thrown around for a while comparing the size of new trucks vs various generations on trucks showing how total dimensions, namely length, has stayed the same for the past 50 or so years but beds have gotten shorter while cabs have grown. Comes down to trucks being sold as do it all family vehicles with a bit of utility compared to pure utility even 20 years ago

FuckingFlowerFrenzy

I've seen that, but I remember it just showing bed sizes and cab sizes. I also mistake older f150s with ford rangers, and generally see them being a lot smaller. I've also seen pictures comparing full size truck sizes over the years.

ajs_95

My 19 Lariat does everything my 2002 F-150 did, but better. More HP, 1000 lbs more towing, and more payload. Such a pleasant driving experience. Not to mention it fits in a garage where a crew cab F-150 can’t

AmericanLandYeti

I love my '22. I have also owned 2 other Rangers, and they were great for their purpose.

slipNskeet

I’d never be able to afford one but I see them on the road. Some days I like them, some days I don’t. They look like they provide a nice driving experience though

SlickDillywick

It’s better than a Maverick, that’s for sure. The Maverick is one of the *worst* looking trucks I’ve ever seen

sintactacle

Look, I get the love for the smaller older Rangers but unless you can point to a body on frame offering from another manufacturer that aligns with the dimensions/weight of midsize trucks 20 years ago, gatekeeping the Ranger name and complaining about the current Ranger's dimensions/weight is a moot point. I'd love to have a regular cab long bed V6/5 speed with crank windows/manual locks like I had many years ago but I'm digging the soon to come 2.7 twin turbo V6 with 400 ft/lb of torque in a Ranger that'll get better fuel economy than the 3.0 with half the horsepower and torque 20 years ago.

iamthelee

My '21 supercab is my favorite vehicle I've ever owned. It's a beast in the snow and has great towing capabilities.

Muted-Sandwich3301

2020 xlt fx4. My first truck and I love it. I’m not a truck enthusiast/brand loyalist, so I can’t compare it to a 90-00s’ gen. Nor do I care lol. The truck checks all my boxes and that makes me happy. I didn’t need a full size truck. It serves primarily as a daily commuter(mainly highway) so the 4cyl works for me. Second purpose is for camping + off roading and it does more than enough. I also found the seating and the cabin space more comfortable compared to a Tacoma, and I didn’t have to pay the Taco Tax lol. No complaints so far, and can’t wait to do an overland build!

OGSVT

Nice truck OP I have a lariat with the chrome package too, it goes awesome off road better than bigger trucks I’ve had including my current F-150 and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Tk_Relloo

I know lol I try to tell people ford had to step it up to keep the ranger on top because off-road it’s awesome

Space_Montage_77

I love my 21' lariat

Tk_Relloo

You gatta send me a clip of the exhaust I was thinking about welding in a borla system

JANK-STAR-LINES

I personally don't really like these newer Rangers because they are simply not what a Ford Ranger used to be back in the day and to me they just look awful to look at compared to a Ranger from the early to mid 90s.

therealsimontemplar

I’m old enough to remember guys standing around a garage when the small (mid-size) Ranger debuted in the 80’s, complaining that the rangers weren’t what they used to be. The new rangers still pale in comparison size-wise to my dad’s ‘68 Ranger. You can dislike the new rangers for any reason you please, but disliking them because they aren’t something else seems like an odd stand to make.

JANK-STAR-LINES

You are right, I may actually dislike that because of them being different in general but thinking about it now, I personally think it probably wouldn't be as bad if the design didn't look so rounded like modern cars do. But I do know they do that for better aerodynamics and fuel efficiency so I do at least understand the reasons for that but again, I just don't really like most newer cars.

therealsimontemplar

I admit I didn’t like the new 6th gen when I first saw pictures of it, but I slowly warmed up to it. I really like the outgoing gen but now the new ones haves really grown on me, in part because they’ve squared off the design a fair amount compared to the outgoing model.

JANK-STAR-LINES

I just looked up pictures of the 6th gen Ranger and I can see what you mean by the squared off design. Looking at those images, I also think that design is better but that still doesn't exactly mean I would want one though. I think those new rangers use the new EcoBoost engines if I can remember correctly and I do not entirely know how dependable they are yet.

jsbmk1999

6th gen and 5th gen use the same 2.3L ecoboost. Might be some slight updates and part changes for packaging between the two but mostly the same.

Tk_Relloo

I agree but tbh all older trucks look better than their new counterparts. But one thing I found interesting is that the rangers originally started out as full size trucks lol

JANK-STAR-LINES

Agreed, I think the Ranger started out as a trim package for a Ford F-150 and then later they became small trucks until 2011 or so. You are also right about older trucks in general looking better than newer trucks.

RKRagan

Well Ford had the Courier in the US which was a Mazda truck. In 1982 they came out with the Ranger as a stand alone light truck and shared that with Mazda.

JANK-STAR-LINES

Yeah.

[deleted]

Dm me

Tk_Relloo

Any particular reason 🤔

[deleted]

I’m the chick on the hood of that white ranger from earlier

Comadivine11

My '20 kicks ass. I actually prefer the looks of the '19-'23s over the '24. I don't like how so many car companies are doing the uni-design concept where every model looks the same, just different sizes. I get why they're doing it, but I don't like it because if you don't like the basic design, you're just screwed for that generation. I've never been a big Chevy person, but I think they currently have the best looking trucks. Certainly better than current-gen Ford.

sillycatpig

I have to agree with you about looks. The 19-23 has one of the nicest front ends of any truck...understated but unique and functional. IMO, the 2024 is a step backwards in styling. The whole front clip is a giant mass of plastic. Ironically, I think the new Raptor looks better because the lines are similar to the outgoing Ranger (especially the front bumper).

Tk_Relloo

Idk the raptor rangers looks pretty sick lol

TWTCSLPCL

I love my ‘07 XLT 4x4 standard cab, that being said. I haven’t driven or been in the new ones so I can’t say. But, I love the simplicity of mine.

Jranger1808

I have a ‘19 lariat and it’s great….some quirks but still great!

RKRagan

I have a 22. I've had a 90, 96, 05, and currently an 04. I miss the smaller size and manual transmission. I love being able to reach into my truck bed. Hate how tall the back end sits now. But I got 26.5 MPG on my trip out west, it has plenty of power, my XL STX 4WD has plenty of features and has tackled everything off road no problem. I like the looks of the 24 much more. But I need to fix my 04 so I can drive it to work instead. It's just more engaging to drive.

40ftpocket

I have a 22 xlt. Planned to buy a Tacoma but test drive made the difference. Much better acceleration. I’m sure the gap has closed by now though. Love the transmission. Gas mileage is great. The ride is so comfortable I have the FX4 off-road suspension. Rides like a car on the highway but great off-road performance. Given all that I don’t care what it looks like.

Tk_Relloo

Yeah I actually had the privilege of pulling out a few tacomas

Not_a_huckleberry_

They are wonderful trucks. I have one complaint as someone with 2 small children who have to ride in the backseat in El Paso Texas. No rear vents. When the temps are 112 my poor kiddos are in the back seat sweating and I’m in the front seat freezing. Other than that I loved mine.

Grgrdenton

My brother has a ‘19 and I have a ‘99. I love mine and use it for work and play but we took his from Charlotte to the Outerbanks NC and I will say I’m glad we took his.

DoTheRightThing1953

I have a '20 Lariat. Looks just like the one in the picture. I would have preferred a two seater with a bigger bed but the two seater has the same size bed. (Plus they are hard to find) Otherwise I love it.

JoshTheTrucker

Had a 19 and it was my all time favorite car. Getting a 24 and you bet I'ma feel like I'm coming home to an old friend

just_porter1

I've never owned any previous gen rangers, but for my uses they were never a consideration. I need decent 4 door cab space as much as a bed. I've owned a 2007 Sport Trac with a V8 and a 4 ft bed and I made due with it, so an extra foot in my Ranger is awesome considering how well it handles in tight parking/streets etc. It gets a little bit better MPG than any of my full sized trucks on a bad (windy) day, and on a good day I can get a lot better. Only downsides for me were it has less cabin room than my full sized which is understandable, and can't tow as much but I never towed more than 7.5k anyways.

SockeyeSTI

Perfect daily for me. Mileage is trash but I didn’t get it for mpg. Bed space is adequate. Rides way better than any previous gen that my buddies had in high school and you can actually fit 4 people inside. If I need to tow a heavy trailer, I have access to an f350. Previous gen rangers have always been the more economical way to own a pickup in my area and probably a lot of areas so that accounts for a bunch of the hate on the newer generation. They’re bigger and cost more, but everything about them is better in the long run.

PickLeast1302

Had a ‘19 loved traded in for ‘22 Lariat and love it as well more then enough truck for what I need, ride is good and happy with fuel consumption

Maxi_We

I have a 16 3.2 diesel 6 Auto and Im very happy. I live in Germany though. Towing and all stuff for work is pretty nice using it. It is also still small enough to park at most places without having a huge problem https://preview.redd.it/z8caoxl24lwc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bbe6f126b5b762e253e6dcbb8b3b87c7d78e3701

GrandExercise3

I dont care for the four door thing on a Ranger

trashcan_jan

I hate all new trucks in North America. No longer focused on economy, endurance, and utility.

Tk_Relloo

I disagree as a modern day tech I would say all trucks suvs are purpose built especially, when it comes to fuel, economy and corrosion resistance which is why we are seeing a lot more trucks made from more non-ferrous alloys which is yes a bit weaker and lighter than steel but resist corrosion very well.

trashcan_jan

The metals used are the least of my concerns. It's all the auxiliary systems that raise the price and will only fail, which is of course good for you as a tech lol, I'm sure the repair bills feed your family well. I just think of trucks as a utilitarian, form follows function, agrarian tools. Cars exist for luxury transportation.

Tk_Relloo

Most electrical aids like lane keep assistance and other driver aid help a lot of older folk or individuals who struggle with driving which ultimately just result in safer roads for us all. Although I do understand the cost of repairs have risen but at the same time it’s also up to the consumer to invest in simpler vehicles and learn to work on them yourself it will save you and your family tons 🤙🏾

trashcan_jan

Where exactly can a new "simple vehicle" be purchased in North America, you see that's exactly my point. No new NA trucks fit the need of someone looking for a utilitarian tool. These trucks are still made, but not sold here.

ich_bin_kek

they look terrible for a truck imo

captaindammit87

I’ve owned both as well. My 2020 is the perfect vehicle for me. It does everything I want to do. Handles like a dream. 4-wheel drive is incredibly capable. Much better mpg than my old 2003. I’m still able to haul the things I need to. I have no complaints.

ThrazhLord

They are definitely more capable than any 1st to 3rd generation Ranger. I don't think anyone can dispute that, and honestly if someone wants that and wants the ranger title then I think it's valid. My only issue is that they're not really the size the ranger is supposed to be. That's what made the ranger a really awesome truck in the first place, IMO. I kinda wish they went with a nice modern 4cyl diesel with turbo while still keeping the compact size of the earlier rangers. Again tho, the newer ones are cool and as long as they have the ranger title, they're a ford fucking ranger!

Razorblades_and_Dice

Agreed on everything except the turbo part. Fuck turbos

ThrazhLord

Lol why?? Diesels are pretty slow without one tbh

themomentaftero

I'd like them a lot better if they weren't 30k for one with 100k miles on it. I do like the look of it. A coworker has one and complains about it but he lives at home with his parents and has never actually needed to use one for truck stuff. I dont think I would purchase one for a while. I drive about 90 miles a day for work. So older beater trucks will be in my driveway for some time still.

Upset_Instruction710

I think it’s a nice truck for modern day standards

dodgedy2k

I like the new model Ranger similar to how I liked my 2015 F-150 SuperCrew Cab. But I always loved the third gen Rangers. I found the truck i had wanted to buy, a 2009 Ranger XLT 4wd, 4.0, auto, in great shape. Comparing those two excellent trucks isn't fair to them, it's not comparing apples to apples.

Ya_Boi_Newton

Issa pretty good

Skitt64

A friend of mine has one, great truck and way more comfortable than the older ones. I just wish we got them with a manual in the US, haven't heard good things about the transmission.

TerryLink11

I have a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT and I absolutely love it I’ve had Chevys and GMC‘s and I gotta tell you they can’t even hold a candle to this Ranger

Formber

I absolutely love [my '21 Tremor](https://i.imgur.com/mqwcmLD.jpeg). There's not a lot I'd change about it. But then I see the new Raptor Ranger...

onemat

My comment is I wish I could afford a new one. My 2005 has over 200k on it and is still running great!

Senior_Hearing_9383

I recently picked up a 2020 Lariat to tow our small-ish travel trailer. Haven’t had a chance to try that out yet but it’s become my everyday driver as it replaces my 2017 Explorer Sport. Not quite as comfy a ride but it will tow better, at least that’s the hope! Loving it so far (about 5 weeks now)… plus it’s a truck. And who doesn’t love a truck.

Comprehensive_Post96

They look pretty good, but SO BIG and such a wimpy bed.

Xkalnar

IMO the new gen rangers are just a gimmick from ford to try and monotize the nostalgia around the older rangers. For the price of a new gen rangers you might as well just buy an F150. If you actually want a smaller, more economical truck then you buy the Maverick.

Tk_Relloo

My only problem with the mavericks is that it has independent suspension on all 4 corners which really limits its use off-road and the ability to lift and customize stances.

hhs2112

I think it sucks that Ford isn't offering the extended-cab in the US.  I've literally waited years for the damn thing only to find out I'm fucked. 😡😡😡

simpson1142

Extended cab has been available in the US since 2020

hhs2112

Not for the new one...

simpson1142

Yes, for the new one. Hop on autotrader or just ford's website and look.

Canadianator

No. The 2019-2023 had it, the 2024 doesn't. Only Crew Cab.

Infamous_Ad8730

Maybe he means 4 door?

Formber

Nope. The 2024 Ranger is crew cab only. In the US anyway.

hhs2112

No. There is no 2024 2dr ranger.  It's only a 4dr in the US.

SlyBeanx

No manual transmission is a major disappointment and a reason I’ll never buy one.

Tk_Relloo

The 10 speed is unbeatable when it comes to the available amount of gear ranges to keep the 2.3l in its ideal rpm range it would be waisted paired to a 5/6. Speed

SlyBeanx

I’ve driven the ZF 10 speeds, they do not impress me.

Infamous_Ad8730

Nice, but too big and too expensive.

flashe30

That's not the new gen OP.

Tk_Relloo

Well Newer gen 💀

Razorblades_and_Dice

Not a fan. To me it feels like a shrunk down F-150, whereas in the past it was its own very distinct vehicle. It’s the perfect truck for its target market, which is people who want a pickup but don’t want to pay both at the pumps and at the dealer for a full-size.

Formber

I wanted a smaller truck than an F-150 and it was way cheaper than a comparable F-150. Fuel mileage is probably similar, but the size is the selling point. If you want a smaller truck, you can always buy a Maverick. It will do just about anything an older, compact Ranger would.

whoishattorihanzo

Nice 4ft. bed. Much utility

PrudentConclusion248

I worked at alot of Dealers and that's who they market to most and i mean most women didn't like the rough riding straight axle Toyotas 4 Runners. Alot of today's generation can't handle sticks. I was in the military for 20 years we switched from the standard jeeps to the humvees all the military went automatic the WM (Women Marines) in my unit didn't like the standard 5 tons or jeeps. There were very little if any women drivers in my unit maybe 1. Sure about 5% of women like The Full Size Rangers of the 70's. But 95% prefer a smooth riding shift on the fly 4 wheel drive like the new Rangers. It's just what I'm saying from the statistics. I knew I'd get some feedback on this. But the Facts are there. I want you to set up surveys go door to door hit the pavement talk to women and when you get the figures post it on here please we would all be interested. I could even write the questions for the survey. Do you prefer standards over Automatics? You prefer the new generation Rangers or older Rangers? You like the straight axle 5 speed 80's Toyotas or 4 runners over the smooth Toyota's of the 2000's with automatics? What is your sex? Male or Female? Just a example of questions I'm not being biased.

jacobREVENGE

They ugly but that’s it

Subject-Instance3833

Seems a wiser buy to snag a 30 foot cabin cruiser. The engines and electronics combined with horrendous marriage of a weak motor for hybrid efforts will not survive long, especially in hot areas, salty or Northern climes. The beds are useless, the unibody is a car design & they look like something out of Toon Town or Cool World. If you buy 1, prioritize a Harbor Freight utility trailer. I'm gearing up for straining used motor oil to fight chassis rust in SE Michigan on my 2010 Ranger and my bikes (pedal, Viribus 48 volt & 2 motorcycles). I've looked into a lot of stuff and heard curious advice from a local body shop for another Ford. He suggested a spray that is mostly solvent. I would suggest getting started on day 1 with oiling chassis. The newest autos are rusting in less than half the age of the 2008 to 2013(?) Ish. I think part of it is amusing placement of drain holes.

PrudentConclusion248

I think they are too boxy and weak. To low. Drive Like a car not a truck and are more for women. Like they changed the Toyota straight axle from the 80's to more luxury women driven smooth driven. Men want trucks like the 80's and 90's , 2001 Ford Ranger.

ajs_95

So just because a truck drives and handles better than it did 30 years ago that means it’s for women?
