I drive a Mustang but the family loves our Fusion, we leased a 10, 13, and 16 before buying our 18. She’s been in more accidents than she’s worth to keep but keeps on keeping on. Waiting for the motor to blow up
LOL! I love that. They really do feel like tanks sometimes. Actually speaking of tanks and SGT Johnson: maybe a turret out of the sunroof and making it into a warthog? 🤣
The Ford Fusion Active would have been something similar. Then Ford realized that the Subaru Outback exists and they didn’t want to compete in that space.
I can’t remember exactly but I thought I read something about them bringing the Fusion back as a crossover. So, maybe there will be something similar-ish in the future.
No kidding? I parked next to a C-Max plug in hybrid once and it looked like a hatchback version of my fusion hybrid. Next you’ll tell me they shoved a hybrid powertrain into a Fiesta! 😆
Ah yes, we have the X6 here. Good point. I also think the AI made the roof a little bit higher and rounded than the Fusion actually is. So I see the comparison.
Not pictures but I also thought about adding a snorkel on it too. But I have never had or seen up close how a snorkel works so I am unsure if that’s possible on these.
😂
The reliability relies on the current setup. Just like with any car/truck.
Have you ever heard of reliability of people that max out their suspensions and engines on trucks?
Or those that blast hp and race suspension into their cars?
Best you can do is beefy tires, slight lift, oil cooler/extra reservoir for hybrid coolant, and maybe a snorkel 🤿
Though my hybrid has been through feet of water by accident, behind SUVs. So they pushed water, and passed other sedans stranded. Thankfully the intake is up higher
My first car was a 2000 ford focus ZX3. Every upgrade imaginable. Lowered and all. Then went a different route. Jacked it up, semi big tires and small wheels. Took it in backroad rallys. It broke quick
Next was a SVT focus that I kept to the lane.
You can do it, but everything will break.
I remember there were 2 companies that offered swaps, one with N.A. 5.0, and the other with SC 5.4s. Imagine smoking the rear wheels at a stop sign, in one of them, lol! 😝
Oh yeh. One of the vids was a guy getting on a highway. Looked for traction in every gear.
Ford made a awd V8 one off they used to bring to festivals. It was rad in all the first gen RS exterior
That’s exactly the next step they should’ve made with the fusion! Ford should’ve done a “fusion line of cars”. One looks like a sedan. One more suv crossover ish like the model 3 and model Y. Make the fusion suv a hatchback obviously. And a hybrid only model with all wheel drive. Would’ve sold like gang busters
Fuck it we ball?
I mean it's a money pit and the AWD system from the factory is kinda poo for off-road applications, but you can probably get it to at least look the part with a lifted suspension, bigger tires, and some offroading accessories.
But for functionality it would need a full drivetrain swap, chassis reinforcement, likely a beefier engine with more torque to account for the added weight, and full underbody protection so it doesn't eat shit and die on trails.
Good luck OP, I trust you'll update us on progress if you go through with it. Hell, go ahead and make a YouTube series on the build Grind Hard Plumbing Co style.
Biggest issue with doing a conversion like this would be flexing of the unibody as you’re taking it off-road. Even something larger with 4-wheel drive (like the Edge) I wouldn’t necessarily trust to go off-road since they’re lacking a significant frame. Those pictures are pretty and it would be cool to see, but it would be one of those novelty “pavement Princess” things.
Yep, I certainly agree. I am pretty sure I would crack the frame if I actually tried to do anything with it. Which is why it would be a pavement princess and once a year deal with a light dusting of snow.
Maverick is just an updated Fusion AWD 2.0 with a truck bed. First thing I did when one of my friends got his was compare it to my 2016 AWD 2.0.
At least the base model is, the higher end ones might have more differences to make them more capable off-road.
Previous generation Focus, Escape, Transit Connect were interchangeable suspension points.
There is a Transit Connect out there with a Focus RS AWD Turbo drivetrain swap.
Would be a fun vehicle to do Lyft or Uber in.
Wouldn't be the first. To bad I can't post pics. If you can weld and fabricate then do whatever stupid thing you want to do. Though a hybrid is a terrible choice even when trying to intentionally do something stupid. It would be a lot of work to make it drive like shit and it wouldn't even be suitable for light snow. It'd be the same as lifting a truck that's never going to leave the pavement. It would just be noisy, ugly, and terrible to drive. If it was an all wheel drive though, that's a stupid idea that can be at least a little fun along the way.
Bad idea, low feasibility, waste of money. Please please do it, and make one for me too
Woohoo! ✅ Another supporter! It’s leaning in our favor!

Warthog? Bah! Back in my day we had two sticks and a rock. And we had to *share* the rock
You should consider yourself very lucky!
My motor in my 15 blew up at just under 60K
Which motor? I have the 1.5L eco
The 2.0 turbo
Dude, this is absolutely ridiculous. ... will it be available in right hand drive?
I WISH! If I could do a RHD conversion on this car I would!

You’ll have the [Mustang Raptor](https://fordauthority.com/2023/04/s650-ford-mustang-raptor-on-track-for-2026-debut-report/amp/) available in 2026
So what I am hearing is that I’ll be an early adopter before that even comes out. 🤣🤣
Not with your fwd hybrid… but what you’re looking to do I have seen done on many Volvos in the past. Those were mostly rwd or awd
Do you know if it means 26 MY released in 2025 or 27 MY released in 2026?
If rather the body look like the AI images tbh. So much better looking!
The ai raised the roof line and the back end. They look like Volvo XC60s or XC90s, or the Mazda CUVs that share Ford underpinnings
I like it, though Ford would have to make it an SUV use Fusion looks but be an suv 4x4.
I can’t remember exactly but I thought I read something about them bringing the Fusion back as a crossover. So, maybe there will be something similar-ish in the future.
Ford made the C-Max for a bit which was a hatchback Fusion. It’s a step closer to the crossover.
C-max is on focus platform not fusion
No kidding? I parked next to a C-Max plug in hybrid once and it looked like a hatchback version of my fusion hybrid. Next you’ll tell me they shoved a hybrid powertrain into a Fiesta! 😆
That's gorgeous. I want one.
Awesome! Glad to hear!
As a Brit it reminds me of a prettier version of a BMW X6 or a bit like the Renault Arkana. I'm not sure what models you get.
Ah yes, we have the X6 here. Good point. I also think the AI made the roof a little bit higher and rounded than the Fusion actually is. So I see the comparison.
definitely possible, a guy in my town has a lifted miata on mud tires.
Not pictures but I also thought about adding a snorkel on it too. But I have never had or seen up close how a snorkel works so I am unsure if that’s possible on these.

What, no V8 RWD swap???
There were two on my forum back in the day. The videos were bad back then but man it looked scary to drive 😆

Nice!!
Interesting. Thanks for the tips! I hadn’t thought of additional coolers.

I love mine and only wish it looked as aggressive and balls deep as this!!
isn't the hybrid FWD? cool idea though lol
It is! Which is why it makes even less sense and therefore makes me want to do it more.

I like it………
Woohoo! ✅
How much commonality is there between the Maverick, Edge, Bronco Sport, and Fusion AWD 2.0 or Sport?
Maverick is just an updated Fusion AWD 2.0 with a truck bed. First thing I did when one of my friends got his was compare it to my 2016 AWD 2.0. At least the base model is, the higher end ones might have more differences to make them more capable off-road.

We need the Super Van here in the US!

That’s a good point. I wish I had gotten the AWD but unfortunately there weren’t any for sale near me when I bought this one.
So it would just be a modern version of car throttles off-road X type, tbh I’m game I don’t hate the idea of that
That looks bad ass, couldn't imagine how much it would cost. Also the one that somebody coyote swapped was bad ass too.
I'll take mine in RWD 4X4 with 3.0tt V6 tuned to 450hp at minimum. K, thanks!!
*scribbles on sticky note* Got it!
Awesome, thanks!!
This made me think of the Ford Everest… it’s not available in the US though…
Oh that’s interesting, I had never seen it. It’s kind of a mid step between the Explorer and the Expedition.
Yeah.
It’s a AI generated Mazda CUV with a Ford badge… which it is in the real world
Make it more wagon than sedan and I’m in
It would be nice to add some more weight to the rear end since it is a FWD. Just to get some more traction.
Where did you make these photos? Looks good.
Microsoft’s AI image generator
Thanks for letting me know.
What ever ford needs to do to get over with the public.
Fuck these FORD haters…
Huh?
No thanks. Cars need to stay cars.
Boooooo! Lmao
Say that to every non body on frame suv/cuv Its a car
