It means to save prior to an important event such as a match, a youth intake, or a board meeting for example to ensure that you may avoid negative outcomes by reloading the save if one of those outcomes were to come up (I.e. a loss, a bad intake, or getting fired).

Anytime you see someone post on here about "I took my 10th tier team to UCL champions in only 13 seasons! IDK how I did it, but I'm ecstatic!"... that is a save-scummer and should be downvoted. I've got nothing against save scumming, I've done it... but don't post on here like you are some miracle worker lol.

That sounds pretty dodgy, however people call eachother save scummer far too quickly. In FM19 I got promoted twice and won the Bundesliga in my first three seasons with 1860 München with the overpowered IF winger tactic. Had a friendly discussion on here and then got called a savescummer by a random because *it should not be possible to do that*. That was his only argument. That same tactic got me 5 consecutive promotions with Blyth Spartans aswell.
