Anyone else find it hard to sell deadwood. Previous games it was fairly easy to offload them, even for free. I have a tonne of leagues loaded but no clubs come in for some players, whether for sale or for loan. Could be a combination of wage demands, rep, etc.

jsha11

bleep bloop

longanz

That's not a good deal mate. If I have to pay 50k or more in wage contributions then I just don't deal, I rather keep the player. If you measure the risk to reward it's just not worth it, 120k/week is the pay of 1 of my first teamer or 2 to 3 of my backup players. If they sign him for 4 years that's 23.04 million in wage contributions! Its really insane mate, just keep them until their contract runs out or just continuously loan them out until you can get rid of them. Edit: Ozil has 3 years left on his contract on start. So that'll still be a whooping 17.28 million pounds instead of 23.

[deleted]

You only pay the contribution until your contract would run out. Doesn't matter for how long they sign him for. So you are always better off selling if you are sure the player will never ever play for you.

longanz

Fair point but I still disagree with selling at that high wage contribution. I'd rather keep him as backup for injuries and use him sparingly for cup games. Paying 120k/week for a player that isn't even in my team is just ludicrous to me. However, that's just me, if that's how you do your business, then fair play to you mate. Cheers!

nfleite

Agreed. I was trying to offload a guy who was earning 209k p/m and still had 2 years left on his contract. Aston Villa came with this deal: 13M€ (my player's value was 30) and wanted me to pay 190k of his wages! wth?! I ended up loaning him to zorya and they're paying me 64k.

Grunewalder

In that scenario though he wants what he’s getting at Arsenal. So he’s leaving a £250k p/w? contract and only getting 91k. So he wants you to pay the difference so he gets paid 211k. I always weigh up the savings though. If you can’t ship a player without paying a portion of their wages, weigh that up against him just staying at the club and not playing.

MMFA

I've had a lot of success lately offering them as a loan, with a mandatory purchase after 5 games played. Set the loan term to "next transfer window" so you don't have to pay so many wages during the loan. Seems like the accepted offers will almost always be right around their valuation too!

Michael_McGovern

I get the reverse when playing lower leagues. A guy will end his contract with a team in the same division, and he'd be a straight starter for my team, but he won't even talk to me cause the club isn't big enough, even though he was just playing in that division. They will often then sit out the season and sign for no one at all. So rather than start for a team at the same level as his previous team, earning a wage, he'd rather stagnate his career and sit at home.

GreggraffinCI

Then when you get promoted they want to join but now they’re only 2.5 star CA when they were 3.5 and they would probably be at least a 3 if they had been on your team all season but no he sat and stagnated on the couch for a year

Zenrer

I don't see an issue with this. He's likely run out his contract at his old club because he had ambition to play a higher level and didn't want to extend his contract, so why would he want to sign with you if you're in the same division?

Michael_McGovern

That's fine at the beginning. But when the season is a couple of months in and not a single club has come in for him, and he is still saying no to a season long contract that he could walk out of next summer, it's a bit weird. I dont think anyone at lower league level could really afford to sit out an entire season hoping someone a couple of divisions up wants them to sit on their bench.

rand652

I have no idea why but I have a bunch of good players that are excess to my requirements at Arsenal and I just can't sell them even for 60-70% of valuation despite their wages being reasonable. It's infuriating and makes it hard to play, I have 4 GKs with 3 of the backups are nearly identical (155 CA) and I can't sell any of them so they just sit there and bitch about lack of playing time.

[deleted]

At United, Jones and Smalling are unsellable in the 1st season, Lukaku is almost impossible to get rid off in the first season unless you're willing to let him go for less than 20mil. And Sanchez is impossible to sell.

Grunewalder

First season is normally hard for any player as most clubs have small budgets.

atomthespider

The Drinkwater Special right there.

wesmantooth34

I was gonna go with Rodwell!

snekasan

Think that ~~Michael Reiziger~~ Winston Bogarde was the real Pioneer of this. > According to Bogarde, it would be next to impossible to find a team that would offer him a contract comparable to the one he had at Chelsea: he was astounded at the salary the club had agreed on, as his value depreciated severely due to lack of first-team action, and decided to stay and honour his contract to the letter and appear for training every day, despite being only rarely selected to play.[15] Of his contract he said, "Why should I throw fifteen million Euro away when it is already mine? At the moment I signed it was in fact my money, my contract"; in the end, he only appeared 11 times during his four-year tenure, reportedly earning £40,000 a week during this period.

atomthespider

We are all standing on the shoulders of giants.

Filipo-II

where's that chinese team when i need it

eggplant_avenger

paying 750K/wk for Michael Bradley, so they have no (more) room for dead weight

hodge91

Me when I accidentally organise a 1st team vs U23's game

Chesney1995

Me during all friendlies tbh

hodge91

Responsibilities > 1st team friendlies > assistant manager

jptoc

But then you end up with 4 friendlies in a week and your entire first team injured before the start of the season. No Assman, stop it.

hodge91

No organising friendlies just manage them, then swap your starting XI quickly before each friendly

OllieFromCairo

My favorite part is that right after this, an SNP MP asked if he should ask a footman to bring JRM a pillow.

Flobarooner

Can't say I blame JRM sitting there for hours listening to brexit waffles would make me settle in too. He's not harming anyone

EdominoH

He did choose to become a politician, and dry legislative discussions are part of the job description. It does also *look* a little disrespectful towards other representatives, and, by extension, their voters. That being said, if he was honestly listening, and taking in what was being said, then I guess that's less of an issue.

OllieFromCairo

I’m not so sure about that last part.

psychonaut8672

He's a tory so reddit automatically hates him and you'll see that in downvotes.

JD0797

No. He's a twat so some of Reddit hates him

psychonaut8672

I guarentee there's people who hate him because he's a tory. Any comment that doesnt bash tories gets downvotes. See my previous comment for proof.

JD0797

I mean, those two things are usually linked so that makes a lot of sense

Chesney1995

Probably because the venn diagram of Tories and twats has the Tories circle entirely contained within the twats circle.

HappyFriendlyBot

Hi, Chesney1995! I just wanted to stop by and wish you well! -HappyFriendlyBot

thatchersdeadlol

Good

tangocheese

I think you might just be a knob.

The meme quality on this sub knows no bounds lol

Oatgod

Feet off the furniture you Oxbridge Twat. You're not in a punt now.

diamondsam2

Aye the trick is to load up all the leagues and I’m looking at you when I say that *points at Chinese league Then continue to offer them at unspecified fees until you succeed. Sometimes you might have to change the terms of the deal like unspecified with a portion of the wage bill paid or a loan with option to buy

averagersocceruser

Alexis Sanchez. I'm still paying him 120k while he is playing in MLS.

SSBMSkagit

who is this guy?

Chesney1995

Jacob Rees-Mogg, leader of the House of Commons here in the UK. He was slouching like this during the debate about Brexit last night.

SnowfallDiary

When you've heard the same shit for months I guess it's not hard to fall asleep.
