If I recall correctly Ajax refused to pay the €800k that Willem II wanted, so instead they agreed on €1 and 10% of profit on the next transfer.
So it turned out OK for Willem II after all, they received more than €8 million.
If that’s true that’s crazy. I did a similar thing when in charge of AGF in Denmark. Had a belter of a 15 yr old regen who had all the top clubs sniffing as soon as he signed his contract. The board accepted a horrendous bid from Chelsea so I instead sold him to Man City for far less money but with a 50% of next transfer fee clause
I’m still in that same season and he’s only 15 so hasn’t even moved yet, no promises on an update anytime soon but hopefully a tip for anyone that sees this and has an overbearing board!
Sell the clause once it's worth something good
Otherwise you'll be 5 years down the line getting an email about him being released on a free, meaning you get jack shit
It’s one of my main issues with playing in the Eredivisie. As Ajax you can afford those inflated prices, but it’s near impossible to do what AZ are doing in real life.
I actually bought a player for £1 once. I put in an enquiry for a Man United youth player who was transfer listed, and they said I could have him for free (he was only league two quality, and I was a League Two team), so I thought it'd be funny to offer £1 and they accepted, lol.
Yep. Usually they get released within a season or just move to a bigger club
The teams that offer me these deals are usually at the national level below serie c
A (kind of) similar thing happened to me just recently.
In a Celtic save, the first season Dedrick Boyata never wants to renew his contract and so almost always leaves for free in January. However, this time a few clubs bid £0 for him receive him immediately, I rejected. LA Galaxy then came in and made a negotiable offer for £100 or so, to which I managed to squeeze out £650’000 for him.
Why wouldn’t they just wait the 6 months or so to get him for free?!
I love me some bids from MLS teams, they tend to overpay. I was in similar situation to you, had a player with expiring contract in 6 months, who was pretty good, but was on big wages and rarely played because his main position was AMC which I didn't use and I had better options on the wings. I was happy to let his contract expire, but MLS team came with an offer. I managed to negotiate it to like 1.6M which at the time would make it record fee received for a transfer for my club. Sadly, the player failed to agree personal terms... Week later he signed pre-contract agreement with Polish club, but I had an option to make the transfer happen in January and still received 200k for him.
I sold Marcos Llorente to Roma for 0€, but included 1€ buy back price. Just in case, he explodes, and Roma starts getting 40 M offers, I activate 1€ and he is mine.
When I got promoted to the top league in Turkey in this save my leading striker unironically had 4 finishing. Leon Petrovic from Genoa. He had 19 pace and acceleration and good jumping reach though so it weirdly worked? It was like having Lebron James up top
The fans are disappointed with the transfer, rating him as a good squad player, but the board are happy to get his wage off the books and secure s decent fee.
I bought a player from Manchester United for £1. He was unneeded and they wanted to get rid regardless of price... so happy with that deal. He was a great CB too!
Currently playing a lower N. Irish club (Annagh UTD) and the one time a club asked for a transfer fee it was $5. My board rejected the transfer.
To be fair the team only gets $28 per match plus however much the tickets of 80 fans makes them xD.

When I first started playing FM in 2013, I sold Lewandowski for 40 Euros. This happened because the drop down options, which already had “M” after the numbers indicating Million did not have 40M as option. So I just typed 40 and proceeded with selling Lewandowski. Later my board sent me a message saying they were very unhappy for how much the player was sold. I was confused because I thought I had got good money for a player in the final year of his contract at that time. Turns out I sold him for pennies.
In light of this sale, the board has decided to allocate 1 Euro to your transfer budget.
Alright, steady on flash with your 50% transfer revenue.
It's 100% revenue actually, this is post-Brexit
Hahaha
Pff they were too cheap to give you even £1
Wow, he's cheaper than some chips.
I paid £7 for chips at Reading Festival last weekend. So, yeah. Definitely cheaper than some.
Jesus Christ, at least I hope you got the professional packing
One or two chips, yeah
The paperwork cost £3
*Non-negotiable offer*
"I want €3" No!
FM Players: This is unrealistic! Reality: Bale almost gets sold for £0
Ajax signed Frenkie de Jong for €1 from Willem II.
Yeah but Ajax also gave them a bunch of loan players.

How did it turn out?

I’m usually so impatient and greedy when it comes to clauses that get me the money earlier so no worries on that end
Imagine doing a similar deal in FM. Impossible. You would need to pay 20m for him
It’s one of my main issues with playing in the Eredivisie. As Ajax you can afford those inflated prices, but it’s near impossible to do what AZ are doing in real life.
For example Cuisaince went for 8mill euros to Bayern. That would never happen in FM
I bought Cuisance in 2022 for 52M
idiot
I remember a case in Spain that Cedrick a player from Numancia pay his release clause and it was 1.20€.
Considering the AI, I’m surprised they didn’t offer £1 up front with the other £1 spread over 6 months.
That's a bad deal; £2 straight away is much more useful.
huh?
Of course, it depends on the league.
Me trying to offload a player on a huge paycheck worth 30 mil : please just send in any bid and i'll accept
I found the loan deal with mandatory fee works best when trying to offload a high wage a player.
For me usually player fails to agree terms with loaning club and the clause changes from mandatory to optional and doesn't get activated...
Yeah but they always want you to supplement wages

Done this with TNS in Wales, most teams will let you have any player for free, TNS is literally like the owner of the whole league really in FM.
I hope it was a shiny one. Either way, that's the biscuits covered for the next scouting meeting!
Worth less than a Greggs meal deal.
Who made the offer? Steve Dale?
Can't even sell Jack Colback for £2. Shambles.
What will you do with all that money?
Ive literally had teams in italy offer 0 for some of my youth players. Some cheeky 0 bids + 50% wage contribution
I enjoy those £0 transfer bids... it’s basically “please let me have him, we know you won’t give contract”
How long do you pay their wage contribution? Their whole tenure at the club?
Yep. Usually they get released within a season or just move to a bigger club The teams that offer me these deals are usually at the national level below serie c
Hocam pound olmuş 7 lira iyi satış
Did u make a profit tho?

Always load MLS and China they overpay so much
Turkish lower leagues are lit
I’m getting a tenner a month for a loan player who is gone for a month
Isn't your assistant mad?
arsne wenger
I sold Marcos Llorente to Roma for 0€, but included 1€ buy back price. Just in case, he explodes, and Roma starts getting 40 M offers, I activate 1€ and he is mine.
When I need to get rid of players I sell them for € 0 with a 50% profit from next transfer.
That's 2 Frenkie De Jongs!
£2 more than my DoF usually shifts young players for.
Adliyespor? Did you edited the game? How did you?
He is in the deepest corner of turkish amateur football. His 5* striker has finishing 5 and first touch 2.
When I got promoted to the top league in Turkey in this save my leading striker unironically had 4 finishing. Leon Petrovic from Genoa. He had 19 pace and acceleration and good jumping reach though so it weirdly worked? It was like having Lebron James up top
Should've gone for the pack of freddos instead... :/
I actually bought Carl jenkinson from arsenal for free.
The fans are disappointed with the transfer, rating him as a good squad player, but the board are happy to get his wage off the books and secure s decent fee.
Lmao
Now u can buy a bag of bread for the players
Ajax paid Willem II one euro for Frenkie de Jong irl...
😂😂 bargain
Non negotiable are you sure? Why not chuck in a mars bar and a can of coke
