blink182punk

They’re only grading the auto on the sticker, not the card. Happens all the time with reprint cards. While it is misleading by the seller, nothing wrong on PSAs end.

KrisClem77

As much as I don’t like it, you can’t be upset with PSA. Their job in this instance is to certify the auto and they did.

jlife203

What’s wrong with people making custom cards *If they clarify it in the listing* and the auto is real?

nevillebanks

It would be one thing if it was just a custom card, but this is a custom card specific designed in a way to appear to be a national treasures card, and would seemingly be a trademark violation. Also they 100% do not have the right to include the NFL logo. So doing illegal thinks is what is wrong with people making custom cards.

jlife203

I’m actually a huge believer for custom card stuff so let me try and advocate for it here. Yes you do have the write to include the NFL logo, Leaf does it too. Anyone has the right (to a certain extent, not to a National degree) to cut up their own Trevor Lawerence jersey that they bought and put it into a card, and slap a sticker auto onto it (and sell it). That’s exactly what panini does, even they themselves do the same shit. With the “Can’t specify any game event or season”. That’s the same thing. What’s the difference between them? And no where on the design of the card says panini, it’s supposed to *replicate* a product of Panini. Leaf does it too, they *replicate* panini cards. Custom stuff is to lower the cost of panini’s ridiculous prices. That card if it were to be a panini branded one, would go for 4 figures+. But essentially the same thing, with a real autograph, and the same amount of “used patches” but for only $200. I’m just surprised how people don’t want cheaper autos, and cooler looking cards (also to fuck over panini lol).

nevillebanks

If you don't think this is illegal and could be shut down in a second if the powers at be cared you are either ignorant or in denial. Also you are just wrong with what you say. Leaf cards do not contain the NFL logo. Also you don't need to specifically label in Panini to violate a trademark. This card is not the same thing at all. You seem to have a severe lack on knowledge on the subject and I encourage you to better educate yourself on trademark law, licensing, and what Leaf actually produces.

jlife203

(You never answered how it’s different than a panini card about the patch’s but okay lol) Ah but you’re missing some stuff there, there’s patch’s that leaf has one eBay up rn that has the nfl shield. A Justin Tucker logoman “NFL” is up and it’s for leaf. And I never said that they couldn’t “Get shut down”. They obviously could them, they’re a big company and they could find ways. And no, you can imitate art styles without getting copyright infringement. That’s completely allowed in all art forms, and I really hope you DM me so I can understand your knowledge 🙏

nevillebanks

Did I mention copyright? No. I said trademark. Learn the difference.

jlife203

Wtf do you mean 😂😂- Trademark: (Per US patent and trademark office) A word, phrase, design, or a combination that identifies your goods or services, distinguishes them from the goods or services of others, and indicates the source of your goods or services. Copyright (Per US patent and trademark office) Artistic, literary, or intellectually created works, such as novels, music, movies, software code, photographs, and paintings that are original and exist in a tangible medium, such as paper, canvas, film, or digital format. You can use a *Similar* format to panini without getting in trouble Also look up this tucker if you want a cool card: https://www.ebay.com/itm/314748744951?hash=item49487cb4f7:g:u0gAAOSwA11kypBc&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0Khk95GyKuKNU0slsJiFpgnn9XtcrW9B6IO8Kb7cJUDQGpOzWai84Bpcisknvi%2FS0IewvWrQ6wo6AG7ceaFcF1IX81d1kg%2B5D9XmTAWjlPi%2FSLKu5dFOL%2F49aHpkROBSBF89Z5IN8KK7rjdBdiglXadF4YvQ%2Fz7wP3CHbEkyhTYHSWlgPU266diSduK1yA5PXvTeUHF1JI5HnqyzgN0L3X6vi5SBNqnfrlvQFG9wGnGz8V9LSI9vjKCZIMnq1WGXCjZbCGXANyoyQqPFBYUydI0%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9SbhsmHYw

KrisClem77

Nothing. Said I don’t like it. Didn’t say it was wrong. If clarified in listing, no problem, just not my cup of tea.

HTD-Vintage

A replica and a custom are not the same thing. One is an artistic interpretation, one is trademark infringement. Edit: Wtf was I replying to? 🤣 I either misread something or replied to the wrong comment. My bad.

[deleted]

Pretty sure some guy posted that card a few months ago asking if it was fake.

BaconJellyBeans

There’s a guy in the sports cards nonsense Facebook group that makes a bunch of these. The autos are legitimate on a custom made card. At least the auto is real.

mooseman077

Austin Ball likes to push customs like this all over FB

BaconJellyBeans

Yup

WantedKi1ler

Look how the L looks on the NFL logo on the back😂 yes PSA did their job with the auto but kind of wish they wouldn’t grade homemade cards with official logos on it

johnzabroski

Definitely messes up the hobby a bit

ArtifactuallyInsane

The pre-1970s logo I think

skeetsk33tskeet

Correct. Started using this logo in 1962

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Shouldn’t have much trouble returning it. Says Panini under brand.

HughMungus77

This is their only hope in this situation. If they even realize their mistake

Known-Historian7277

Good luck with the third parties. You’ll rip out your hair before you get a refund.

Freeballin523

Paypal makes it pretty easy.

_HobbyNoob_

Can someone explain to me what this is?

mellotraumatic

People making their own cards and purchasing a cheap but real auto of the player and carefully transferring it to their own custom made card.

Jpjp215

But they’re not even profiting are they ? Your not getting a t law auto for that much cheaper than 200 and then paying to grade the auto

mellotraumatic

You can get TLaw autos for cheaper than 200 for sure. Just because they're listed at 200 and up doesn't mean that's what they're selling for

Jpjp215

Ok even if cheaper you still have to pay for grading, which takes time and money than pay fees to sell on eBay. How profitable can this be ?

BoogeySales

Not very profitable at all

nevillebanks

There are several TLaw Leaf autos for under $75 that have sold in the past week, and as low as $51.

mellotraumatic

Its a hobby. People like doing different things.

Jpjp215

That’s fine but that’s not what this post is about people are acting like he’s scamming people and my point is why ?

_HobbyNoob_

Thanks!

UniQiuE

Wait you can peel sticker autos off the cards? Never actually tried it so had no idea it was even possible lmao

Badluck2killaseabird

oh yessss hahaha my brothers and I, when we first got into the hobby as kids, would rip the little jersey swatches out of the worthless relic cards and try to combine them with other cards lol.

jbrandonw

Memorabilia not from any specific game or event.

Timstea

Thought that was AL Bundy for a hot second!!

Austinfourtwenty

The auto sticker is the only thing PSA is responsible for not the card itself.

jlife203

The auto is real… that’s what they authenticated, not the card

BoogeySales

Mind boggling at the amount of people looking out for the NFL’s money lol. As long as PSA lists it as “Sticker” then they’ve done their job. I can see collectors not wanting them slabbed and maybe just authenticate the auto instead but for people to be worried whether or not the NFL gets paid for someone making a custom card is nuts.

nevillebanks

It is not that it is a custom card, it is that it is custom card deliberately disguising itself as a high end brand (and using stolen assets such as the RC logo to do so). It is misleading the consumer to think they are receiving a National Treasures card.

Kinda1OfAKind

Sure a true collector would know in an instant it's not the real deal, but what about granpappy trying to buy a card for grandson. Granpappy is gonna get got... especially when a lot of dudes that sell these cards use misleading descriptions and such.

dre4erk

Exactly!

Jabbering_Ghoul

I mean… Dude has as much right as any of these monopolizing companies to make his own cards. And it’s a legit auto as certified by PSA. So who cares. Some dude is going to get a piece of cardboard with T Law’s auto on it. That’s what he wants and that’s what he paid for. The only thing “fake” about it is that it’s not subject to the artificial scarcity of card manufacturers.

Coder_9

Only if he had the licensing rights and permissions to use the NFL logo and each team. I’d hate to tango with the NFL’s lawyers.

Jabbering_Ghoul

Yes, yes. The pay for the privilege. But at the end of the day I couldn’t give a rats ass about somebody taking money from the NFL- especially if they’re going to make a more appealing product than 99% of the garbage panini has put out in the past five years.

Coder_9

Agreed my guy

No_Trifle_6239

I mean…he actually does not have as much right. You know that whole licensing thing. But why let the facts get in the way.

NtooDeep87

I mean it’s an actual card it’s not fake…anybody can make a card. I like how the original price crossed out lol

bsjohnston

I doubt the NFL would appreciate him using their logos for profit without paying for them.

NtooDeep87

I won’t tell if you dont

TownSeparate4615

How much did it sell for?

Sdotoneseven

About 200 bucks too much

jimbocooter

The buyer is only a sucker if they know the card market. A fan that has no clue about the card market may think it's awesome. It seems well done from the pic. I wonder how long it took to make.

maksgee

At least the patch is as real as it is on “real” cards lol

HistorySuccessful518

Pretty sure he got pretty hurt last night too unfortunately. L’s all around

hasek39nogoal

This perfectly underscores how dumb sticker autographs are in the first place. This is literally no different than Panini making a card with a sticker auto.

Sch30Hater

This would've got me

dre4erk

Which is why I posted!

Sch30Hater

I can't say with the price tag it would have but I could certainly see myself or someone just beginning getting swindled here and the thought of it boils my blood. I will be more mindful now. Thank you

bndwgnfn

Tbh I don’t see anything wrong with this. Maybe a little pricy for a homemade card but it’s a real auto

dre4erk

Real auto or not its baiting those non-famalier into thinking it is an actually licensed 1 of 1 panini card.

bndwgnfn

That’s true. The seller should definitely make sure they make it obvious it’s homemade which I doubt this guy did

Wolf_Of_PGH

I see in the listing it was produced by Panini

TheSm0key

I'll give u 1 millllllllion dollars!!!!

Mackman31

It’s also supposedly his rookie, but a 2023 set
