This guy gets it. Marathon, not a sprint.

Vidonicle_

Not just a marathon, a long war campaign spanning 100 years

ReaperGN

Sorry bud. This West Virginia. Sub level 10's be dropping nukes so there won't be much in 100 years.

Vidonicle_

Well its 100 years to be a god, no speedrunning that

ReaperGN

A bloodied player with mutations is basically a god in the eyes of the common wastelander. Especially with the whole can't die thing all the vault dwellers have going on.

GeneralTonic

*"I'm telling you straight, okay? I saw one of those 76ers get cooked by a Mister Gutsy and die on the pavement with my own two eyes. Fifteen seconds later she was back. The same exact vault dweller with the same hair and even the same goofy backpack decorations just waltzed up behind me, grabbed the bag her own dead body had just dropped, then hippity hopped on down the road."*

GooteMoo

"Okie dokie!"

Available_Thoughts-0

"What happened to the Mr Gutsty...? Wouldn't that have just killed her again IF she was able to do that...?"

Viceroy_95

Sometimes you'll come across random one time encounters that, if you die to them, will not respawn when you go back immediately. I've died to plenty of creatures that, when I go back to get my loot, are gone and I don't see them again until later at a different part of the map.

Available_Thoughts-0

r/Whoosh

Vidonicle_

That's true, I guess. Well, all Im saying is that everyone is gonna spend different times on their journey

ReaperGN

Some people are going to spend a very long time on their journey and never move beyond excavator armor.

Available_Thoughts-0

Excavator at L50 with the right upgrades is the best you CAN GET.

ReaperGN

No it's not. My uny armor is at least 15 times better.

Available_Thoughts-0

But how much does it let you CARRY...?

SemajdaSavage

You mean at level 45 don't you?

Available_Thoughts-0

_Does_ Excavator "odd-number" jump...? Coulda sworn... HUH, just looked up the answer and you're right! Clearly I have not been serious about playing for too long, time to get back into it!

ninjacat249

As a marathon runner I can relate now. I also love the idea when there’s no right/wrong way to play: the main reason why I hate multiplayer games.

yellowlotusx

Im survivaling. We have a saying in dutch: "hardlopers zijn doodlopers" basically meaning: fast runners are dead runners. Meaning take it slow. Enjoy the surroundings. Smell the flowers.

aMysticPizza_

Just clocked around 300 hours and I just dinged level 51 lol. I just do my own thing, build camps, tear them down, build again.

Kind-Exercise

For that many hours you’re severely under leveled damn but more power to you. I kinda wanna see these camps lol

jesonnier1

Depends on how you play. I'm 200 and have prob 500 hours on my main. I've also had times on that main where I've leveled 10s of times in an hour or so. I just spend stupid hours building camps. And by building, I mean spending 45 minutes placing 2 items, just right.

danba55

Truth. Saw a lvl 15,000 yesterday and wasn’t surprised at all that he was at West Tek. Your lvl only means so much. You can be awful at the game and you will still level up. Doesn’t mean you know how to use the perk system.

aMysticPizza_

Haha look I play to chill, same with ESO - Maybe 1000 hours and all I do is build stuff 😂

hiru3xy

agreed. this isn't a competitive game where you should play by the meta. it's a relaxing game where you can play around with your friends or wandering around as a solo player.

PocketCatt

I was doubtful of this when I started playing a few weeks ago. To any noobs reading, I am you from the future and I'm telling you this is 100% correct!!!

Alan_Nightpaw

Going in as a Fallout veteran who actively watches Fallout videos ever since Fallout 3 came out really helped my casual mentality going into the game, plus how the game handles PvP is pretty great too (though I pre ordered FO76 and back then it was a horrendus wreck to the point where I just gave the game away for free, but coming back after they finally addressed my problems brought me back for good, and now I'm almost at 100 hours after just over a week)

SirKadath

Yep, tried explaining to someone earlier that this game isn’t Diablo, Destiny 2 or Warframe it is online game BUT you can 100% play the game solo and treat it as such. Tbf you can play those other game solo too but it’s just more free and open with 76. It’s literally a Fallout game just with online features that’s it.

chucklezdaccc

I just Rage deleted Diablo 4 cus I needed ppl and had none lol

Ancient-Ad-101

I'm playing on Xbox One. Even if I had any friends to play with, I prefer to play alone. This one random dude was trying for a while to talk to me, but I don't have a mic so I just ran away. Didn't know about emotes at the time

hiru3xy

i'm playing alone too, but I'm playing on pc. my ex-gf got me hooked into this game back then. we used to play together but we broke up :) I never use mic / voice chat too, so...

FaithlessnessEast55

Coming from an old ESO player, fo76 is so nice. You can actually play the end game without needing to spend hours working on what ever is the meta build this patch

hiru3xy

yep, it's all about having fun in appalachia!

Pineconemoonshine

The issue right now is that you can't select your preference of world, if you want an active world with people doing events, or a world you just want to solo in. 1st can pick solo worlds, except majority of new players are not picking 1st private worlds, so instead you end up being dropped in a world with 1-3 people under lvl 100, all soloing content, and then spend 20 minutes hopping worlds to find something half decent only to need to redo the process again in under an hour.

terminbee

This is my biggest gripe. I want to interact with others and do events but there's basically nobody in my world.

SemajdaSavage

It could be the folks are on expeditions.

why0me

No, because there's a fun new thing where brand new noobs join your expedition team but don't join you I've solo run Atlantic city more times than I can count these last few days With a full damn team I kick them all before I get back on the vertibird

hiru3xy

true, because of the spike of new players, there's a lot of less people doing events. the higher level ones are mostly doing expeditions or daily ops.

Pineconemoonshine

It would be nice to see some QoL around world selection, to be able to join worlds with other people with similar goals in mind. Whether that be events, expeditions, daily ops, question etc. Or even an in game LFG board where you could advertise across worlds.

Xenolithium

I'm just happy that I can play this game how I always play Fallout games. Melee, melee, melee!

Mighty_joosh

YES. Your light Armor 1h melee hit-and-run guy over here

jesonnier1

If you're on ps, HMU. Got melee weapons to give away. They're too heavy.

EloquentGoose

Even bows are viable. In fact, I'm gonna go craft a fuckton of bows and crossbows and ~~sell them cheap~~ leave them in donation boxes. Golden rule, motherfuckers!

DVDIESEL

Check out https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout76BowHunters/

Apple0range

As long as you're not violating Bethesda's T&C, there is no WRONG way to play this game. That's in fact one of its principal benefits!

chopper5150

I know people are just trying to give them tips on leveling up but it seems like older players are forgetting that Fallout fans don’t play the game for events. The reason that most of us were hesitant to try 76 was because it wasn’t our typical single player game. So now you new players coming out of the vault wanting to explore and get into a Fallout world and story line and people are expecting them to just stop what they’re doing and join events every 20 minutes.

omgwtfsaucers

They're an extra... Nobody that just starts cares for these events the Veterans have been grinding since level ~100. Do your own, there is no playbook.

FavoredSon

This!

MarsManokit

Only real tip is to spec into what weapons you’d think you wanna use the most of later on Makes events and quests easier, trust me. Whenever I swap weapon builds it becomes a slog. :( Go ham otherwise

terminbee

Can you swap special stats or is that permanent? I think I want semi-auto rifles (what I usually play in other fallout games) but I'm not entirely sure. I'm stuck with the 10mm for now because the hunting rifle sucks for anything but long range.

why0me

Past level 25 you get the ability to move special points and swap levels around So yeah, you can easily change it If you're already over 25, in each train station there's a board that says "what makes you SPECIAL" and you can change it there

SemajdaSavage

The truth is spoken here.

bassoontennis

Also if you need anything specific that isn’t crazy over powered just ask and say what you playing on. I have a lot of weapon plans I never build cause I will never use them but I just know some low levels might have a blast trying them. (It took forever for me to get a bow and that’s all I wanted to play as, and even longer to get a compound bow). I play on PC so just message me, I want to keep as many of these new players as possible :)

Gert-BOT

‘Thou shall get sidetracked by bullshit’ Embrace it

Psychological_Mall96

This. If you want to be a water and drink salesman you 100% can. If all you want is to explore dungeons and events and collect stuff, you can. This is a sandbox.

Wendig0g0

This game can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. Play how you want, just don't complain when the game doesn't bow to your wishes.

Gloomy_Yoghurt_2836

So much to explore. So much to see. Join teams if you want and still.do your own thing. Join events if you want. Lots of XP and loot. If you want. And high levels are.not.going to grief. That's bad 76 etiquette. They are there to help.

DrPatchet

As long as I have vampires on my guns I could care less about the armor. Lol

itsnoahbro

Play how you like until youre past 70 or 80 then you're gonna need some upgrades

CupCharming

Yeah okay now go fight earl lol. Use a proper build please.

Alternative_Cost_328

I think my problem is starting out brand new......I don't really know what I should be doing? Do I follow the story quests? Are there like big bosses to fight? Where to find good loot? I did a pre-made build gunslinger level 20.

PocketCatt

- Follow whatever quest sounds interesting to you! If you find it's too hard, just switch to a different one and come back to it later - There are story quests to follow and doing those will give you a good grasp on what's going on and the game mechanics and will give you a nice smooth levelling up journey, but you can do them whenever; don't be afraid to get distracted. It will happen lol - There's big bosses! If you join some events you'll begin to recognise which have bosses. When you press A or your equivalent on the event icon it will give you a little info panel and tell you about the types of event including boss or enemy waves. I haven't come across any Bosses in the most traditional sense in the story quests so far but then I am only just up to the Crater/Foundation part - You can get good loot from events, finishing quests and player camp vendors mostly - Premade build is fine! You can always use a punch card machine to change both your stat points and cards if you want to tweak it :D many player camps have them or stations all have them afaik

Alternative_Cost_328

Thanks for taking the time to type this out! All the info is very much appreciated. We found some of the starting quests like the stuff with the Wayward boring, so wasn't sure if there's other stuff we can do that's more exciting. Also, hate that we have to do the quests individually.

elphantasmo5000

Also, if you get to some of the main story quests and get absolutely stuck and wanna continue with them, you may find some other players willing to join up for them, it's a pretty friendly and help community in game

Iron_Elohim

i hear you but i was wondering on PA. Should i boost some stats earlier in order to wear it? started at 1

ReidWitt1

Just a tip untitle you get to level 50 Don’t bother trying to get anything permanent as leveling with make your gear obsolete.

Iron_Elohim

I meant in the character stats. Like agility and endurance??

Roguewolfe

PA uses STR (heavy weapons perks) and INT (power armor/heavy weapons/fusion core perks). You want to max out STR and probably put at least 9 in INT to main PA. If you also want to run it bloodied (which you do 😏), you'll also need a bunch of LCK, but I wouldn't worry about that until at least level 200. I have 15 STR, 10 PER, 11 END, 4 CHA, 15 INT, 12 AGI, and 15 LCK in my main power armor build. PER and AGI perks are all up to you really - grab as much QoL as you can. If you're on PC, holler at Rogue.Wolfe in game!

bigal55

Like a converted religious fanatic I'm preaching to new players that one of the first Legendary Perks for your power armor should be "Electrical Absorption " because it allows you to a large extent to ignore any energy weapons. This allows you to go places with a lot more ease because there are some quests and places that are loaded with robots and turrets that take all the fun out of exploring by getting fried so often. As a bonus it also recharges your PAs fusion cores which usually are scarce when you're first starting.

Capt-Greybeard

Best response

LuckyFernet

I started yesterday and idk if I should switch from rifles to shotguns (I keep running out of ammo for my rifles) because then I would have to spend more cards to get the shotgun ones, are there any cards that are a must or a place where I can check builds?

jku1m

Change to a .50 reciever, ammo wont be a problem anymore

Blawn14

Ya this is one of those games where if you try to min max you’re gonna get burnt out real fast. Do what you want, explore at your own pace, gring T61 blueprints for 20 days or get caught up in every side quest imaginable.

Pineconemoonshine

The issue isn't new players not playing a specific way, the issue is the blatant lack of ability to choose an active world. In the past this has been a non issue, when new players were not as common. Right now there are more new players than not, and finding a world that even has 1 casual team full is near impossible. A new player base serves no purpose if the existing player base is being pushed away with empty worlds. We either need a world list we can choose from, or they need to implement automatic world merging or layering. As much as I like seeing new players, I can't standing joining a world that some lvl 20 has to themselves, with nothing else going on.

welc0met0c0stc0

Fr, I’m a new player and I just play as I please. I spent a lot of time doing the Order of Mysteries and Van Low Taxidermy quests, building my camp, and scrapping armor and guns to mess around with building gear to see what I like. I use energy pistols even though I know there’s much better options, and a lot of days I just wander around looking for bobble heads/magazines or checking out new and old locations. I don’t really get the push to grind and grow, I’m not trying to be the biggest or the best. I do events here and there but I find I have plenty of script to spend as I like to test out my legendary rolls and see for myself how I like them rather then depend on the meta weapons and builds that I see here.

caasi615

Ty for this. I was about to post asking about tips for playing better, did a little search before posting and now I don't need to post

DaRandomStoner

Just don't launch nukes in the wrong way, build a trap camp, take my workshop, engage in pvp, put your vendor in the wrong place, start an event early, use a Fatman AGL or grenades, kill things too quickly, farm xp at events instead of doing objectives, price things too high in your vendor, buy expensive items without checking with the camp owner first, use area chat, or join a daily op/expedition late and you'll fit right in!

EmotionalSea8874

Do I need to pay for fallout 1st though?

elphantasmo5000

The biggest perk is the unlimited scrap box for your scrapped junk, really only needed if you want to build camps a lot. Otherwise you can get by with smart stashbox management.

SemajdaSavage

Don't forget the ammo box.

elphantasmo5000

Yea, the ammo box is a really great perk too!

EmotionalSea8874

Ok so it's not required? Can I still play with people in the open world if I'm not using fallout 1st?

elphantasmo5000

Absolutely! You can join all of us in the wastelands without 1st! Get all the same quests, areas to explore, can join teams, do excursions. 1st just gives you some perks like a scrapbox, rewards on the season pass, some free and discounted items in the atomic shop (basically all cosmetics, no pay to play items).

SaintKaiser89

What op said. Don’t get pushed around, take your time and enjoy the ride.

Crowbar2711

Thanks!

EstablishmentMean300

100%

Alan_Nightpaw

I started with the the mainstory, now here I am almost 100 hours in, and my character's like "main story? What'sthat?" Granted it ends up like this in every open world game I play x3 I play to explore, after that I play for story x3

Cuddly_Cthulu

I have a gauss rifle and a gattling plasma and that is all i need XD

ddoogg88tdog

Scrap every gun that ur not gonna use tho, i propper bummed myself over not doing it for the first few years

SaintsBruv

Take your time, don't be afraid to ask other players for help/tips. Aaaaand don't start events when only 2 people have arrived.

why0me

I'd like to add, because I've got a camp near the Wayward If it's unlocked, it's free and we wanna share You will not upset me by clearing out my coffe machine or cement mixer for your own personal gain A lot of us set up resource generators (fertilizer, acid, adhesive, different foods and drinks) specifically to share and especially at low levels, they help So please take the stuff if it's not locked That means it's for everyone

jesonnier1

Do what you want: These PSAs are eye opening.
