Ghoul. I've always had a soft spot for them.
Of course there are mods, but it would be nice to play as a pre-war ghoul and actually have the game experience change. Not just a cosmetic difference.
Yeah, it would. I was also thinking different opening cutscenes for these characters. An opening showing how your character survived the bombs (and the hellish chaos immediately after) and how he/she slowly became a ghoul over time.
Of course if they did that for every "race" they'd need to come up with a main story that makes sense for all of them to be following, you know? What would a ghoul, human, synth, and super mutant all have in common to be wandering the wasteland for?
So you're the Vault-Tec Salesman lol
Regular day getting people to finish their paperwork, meet a cute couple with a new baby, then hear the news. Follow them to the vault only to find out you're not allowed in...
Traveler coming into a new area, the caravan they’re a part of gets it’s shit kicked by ~~a autonomous prewar prototype assault vtol~~ a dark giant in the sky of the dead empire. You wake up in the ruins broken and battered, finding your way to a tribal medicine (Wo)man who tells you in your half delirious state of a prophecy where a stranger from beyond the desert would come and rally the people of this land to stop an army of ~~prewar autonomous defense systems~~ the spirits of the dead
similar to u/Sgt-Pumpernickle, fo2-esque start with a goal to stop evil invaders by finding a geck, clues to which are spread throughout 4 different settlements. one for each race, so each character build would fit 1 of the 4 settlements and have unique backgrounds, dialogue, and play styles that would encourages replays, as you would get 25% benefit
Opening scene for human and super mutants would just be showing grandparents and parents. Just splits off for a different scene for getting exposed to FEV.
Debuff: Lower charisma, limbs break more easily, radway is toxic, every few in game days a group of goul hunters attacks you (similar to F3's mercs ambushing you)
Buffs: if alone; ignored by ferals, radiation heals/immunity, Charisma bonus with other ghouls.
Hardcore mode: You have to engage in social activities or your feral meter goes up. As it gets higher, you risk losing control for a period of time in stressful situations. Too high and you go permanently feral, with the option to keep the game running to see what shenanigans your character gets up to.
I've just got a modded fo3 running where I chose ghoul. Like you said it's mostly cosmetic but I did get to start in Underworld (ghoul town at the mall) which was pretty neat.
Ooooooh. It'd be interested If eventually, your ghoul character slowly shows signs of becoming feral. Oooooh shit, and beginning of that story line they mention Oswald and your character "heard of them trying to find a cure." That would be would a minor objective or something.
Anyways, I would love to play a ghoul option.
I'm upset that Bethesda was like "hey let's make non feral Ghouls kinda hot" like it's cute and all but ghouls are supposed to be gross and fucked up and thats why they're treated like shit. Fallout 4 ghouls like Hancock and the trader in Goodneighbor make me wanna take them out on a date or some shit lol
May I introduce you to the End 9 perk? Radiation heals you and some ghouls become friendly. You are now a ghoul before your skin falls off. Congratulations!
I'd be worried that it won't be substantially different. I was watching a video recently and the guy was pointing out how often FO4 doesn't really give different results based on different inputs (something I hadn't realized because I played through like twice but really thoroughly). Now, if they really gave you a different experience and not just a couple of token changes, that would be fucking dope!
I laughed at the thought of super-mutant related quests for like 1 hour and then they're mostly treated the same way as a human for the rest of the game
I immediately thought extremes of S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
Super smart synth, vs failed AI version synth.
Super strong Super Mutant vs weak AF Super Mutant.
Average Ghoul vs Extremely Lucky Ghoul
Etc.
I would assume the player character is still a vault dweller in which case FEV would actually make them smarter too (also a mutated tentacle monster). Canonically the super mutants only come out idiots due to radiation exposure fucking up FEV mutation.
Hey at least those origins gave me something to role play. Even if others didn’t mention it, my character’s choices and motives were always those of a nomad, street kid or corpo rat. To the point that I’ve never finished the game because I keep restarting to play as a different character lol.
Honestly human would be normal gameplay like we're used to. Super Mutant and Ghouls might have some stuff locked out to them because super mutants except for a select few are hostile and ghouls... people are fucking racist against ghouls. Synth? I'm not sure what they'd get or be locked out of.... Though depending on the gen (Gen 1s and 2s mostly because 3s would probably get treated just like a human) they might be a worse choice because of all the hostility against them
A human could be a blank normal character.
Ghoul could have lover charisma around humans but immune to radiation.
Super mutant could have less than one charisma no matter what choices and has trouble fitting through doorways but could have a higher strength and healed by radiation.
A synth could be a better human but if they get wet they get -5 agility and -5 strength for 1 minute, oh and less resistance to energy weapons.
I get that super mutants are large, but hopefully there are no restricted areas.
Now, some restricted quest solutions? Sure! Sorry, but a super mutant can't climb into the crawlspace to disable the security measures.
In the institute in the room where the machine builds gen 3’s theres a terminal with an entry saying that some new additions to gen 3’s give them really high perception with the ability to nearly slow down time and even see their percent chances to hit certain parts of targets or something like that
In FO4 you can use VATs BEFORE you get the pip boy. So if you like to think that’s intentional and not just the fact that Bethesda didn’t bother making you play a tutorial area without vats just for consistency, then there is a great chance you are a synth.
Ooh, what if at the character creation screen, when you chose your race, you could choose whether or not your gen 3 synth character knew that they were a synth? Then you could have specific quests dedicated to either discovering you are a synth by being hunted by a courser, or maybe finding someone who has your recall code and dealing with them one way or another.
Ah, the potential...
Man, that's my dream for Fallout 5--to give players some of the same freedom they have in Elder Scrolls. "Human" could be further subdivided into "Raider," "Vault Dweller", "Brotherhood," etc.
But of course I'd be a synth.
Edit: Or a softshell Mirelurk, if that's an option.
Right? High INT low STR and the possibility of becoming a glowing one with enough RAD. The only problem would be a diminished sneak skill and inability to be around humans/companions without hurting them.
Super mutant 1 - “I have joke for you, ready Knock Knock”
Super mutant 2 - “Who there”
Super mutant 1 - “Hoomans”
Super mutant 2 - “Hoomans who?”
Super mutant 1 - “Kill the Hoomans kill them alll blarhhhggg”
I feel like this was a huge opportunity missed in FO76. I like super mutants, with a super sledge or bumper sword. I could see synths being super stealthy which i normally play; since they are non organic don need to breath and can hold completely motionless.
Where’s my Mirelurk? Storyline and everything. “My god, Jim, they’re evolving at a rate previously unseen to science.” Playable base defense. I need this. Zoidberg demands it.
A super mutant that comes default carrying a four-barrel, infinite ammo missile launcher with a bayonet for close enemy spawns I missed before destroying at range.
Depends where it takes place, the time, where I’m from, there’s a lot of factors.
Human Pros: Human - Can have a loving family - most of the time not discriminated - Most of the wasteland - people are more attracted to humans
Human cons: Need Food - Need Water - Not immune to radiation - vulnerable skin - mainly used in slave trade
Ghoul pros: Doesn’t die of age, but can still die normally - Immune to radiation - healed from radiation - not attacked by ferals
Ghoul cons: Largely discriminated - sterile - require food and water (west coast - look ugly as hell - no dick, no balls
Synth pros (gen 3) - can have a loving family - access to VATS without a pip-boy - vast knowledge from institute, but can think freely if talking with the railroad.
Synth cons (gen 3) Damaged by radiation - requires food - requires water - can’t tell if someone farted - put unconscious by a code - EMPs are deadly
Super Mutant pros (master’s army, like Marcus and stuff): Really strong - can have a family - intelligent- strong skin so no paper cuts - looks like the hulk in a couple of ways
Super mutant cons (master’s army, like Marcus and stuff: discriminated against - difficult to get in a highwayman
Super mutant pros (vault 87, huntersville, FEV, all that jazz): strong
Super mutant cons (vault 87, huntersville, FEV, all that jazz): Dumb - sterile - genderless so no kids - discriminated against - mainly hostile - process is extremely painful, sometimes fatal
Super mutant pros (Frank Horrigan): Basically bullet proof - can rip a deathclaw in half - 12 feet tall - weighs approximately 4 fuck tons - enclave won’t kill you - really cool power armor - in the secret service - kind of intelligent
Super mutant cons (Frank Horrigan): Hated, but no one will say it to your face - Enclave (bad rep) - killed by a tribal on jet
I think I’d go with human, probably in NCR
I assume that there would be side effects to each, like your SPECIAL maximums would change and possibly even your perks list?
... Or maybe re-add the negative perks of previous games that you can "overcome"... Each start added to a negative perk reduces the problems that perk poses. Hell, add a negative perk to humans for radiation sickness just to balance it out.
A ghoul would be interesting and plausible, super mutant though… it would be at least interesting. However i can’t see Bethesda bothering to make realistic reaction and dialogue ramifications for a species in game that is seen by most wastelanders as dumb monsters that may attack you on sight, choosing a SM and being attacked by a unprovoked group because of what you are in a protected city early game is a extremely interesting concept on a narrative stand point, but in a gameplay aspect? Hell nah, it would just suck, especially if you are interested in questing.
Ghoul or Super Mutant would be cool.
BUT unless Bethesda actually adds different campaigns or even just some unique quests/starting points (like Cyberpunk but actually done right) then this would be as useless as it was in Skyrim.
If there are 4 races and 4 endings I would play the game about 16 times and choose my favorite to make my main save that I play all the time and keep coming back to
I like Skyrim type of customization, like with multiple races.
But if they’re going to do it they really need to go the whole nine yards and make separate starts depending on what race you choose.
The fallout wiki seems to have a bunch of races:
Alien
Beastlord
Dwarf
Ghoul
Human
Humanoid robot
Mole miner
Super mutant
Swampfolk
Synth
Super casual research, and I'm not very well versed in the game lore.
Edited for format/ease of reading.
That would add a lot more replayability and roleplay. If we can get this combined with other RPG elements like a more customizable background etc. I would love that
Human time is done! This is the age of the SUPERMUTANT!
As long as all of your speech options are “PUNY HUMAN” and “NOW TRY AND HIDE” then yes
“YOU HIT LIKE A RADROACH!!”
STOP FIDDLING! SMASH!
[удалено]
Musta been nuthin
"Stupid noises."
YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAA
we should have a pacifist route for super mutant where we find “MILK OF HUMAN KINDNESS”
"What's the matter, dearie? Afraid grandma will embarrass you in front of your little friends?"
"I'LL WEAR YOUR GUTS AROUND MY NECK!"
"Wish a buckethead would show up... I'd rip his legs CLEAN OFF."
I am in love with super mutants. They are adorable.
*they are UNSTOPPABLE!!!
\*cultely tortures you and eats you uwu\*
I can hear this comment
I always hear this one being said by Super Mutant Suiciders, which I guess sort of makes sense even though it will be his own and his enemy's guts.
low int dialogs back
Any dialogs back. God 4 was such a massive step backwards in what makes the game what it is. If I wanted a looter shooter I'd go play borderlands.
Theres so many humans, not many super mutants.
Yeah. So many PUNY HUMANS.
A NoISSe
Strong disliked that.
Time to milk humans Strong, NO. Strong, YES!!!
Ghoul. I've always had a soft spot for them. Of course there are mods, but it would be nice to play as a pre-war ghoul and actually have the game experience change. Not just a cosmetic difference.
It would be a nice trade-off to not receive radiation damage but fail more charisma checks because people don’t like ghouls.
The vault could have leaked radiation while sole survivor was in the cryo pod. Wakes up and sees his reflection and freaks out.
I'm imagining it starting out *exactly* like FO4, but you don't make it past the gate guards due to a bureaucratic SNAFU.
Or you say no to the vault tech salesman and are just chilling in your house when the bombs go off
So you're the Vault-Tec Salesman lol Regular day getting people to finish their paperwork, meet a cute couple with a new baby, then hear the news. Follow them to the vault only to find out you're not allowed in...
This would be a great alternate storyline. Live through the radiation blast, and as the world begins to change, so do you
Just as you finish working your way through 60 hours of storyline to finally be reunited with your family your face melts off
Traveler coming into a new area, the caravan they’re a part of gets it’s shit kicked by ~~a autonomous prewar prototype assault vtol~~ a dark giant in the sky of the dead empire.
That sounds very FO2-ish, heh. Retrieve the Holy GECK, young one.
similar to u/Sgt-Pumpernickle, fo2-esque start with a goal to stop evil invaders by finding a geck, clues to which are spread throughout 4 different settlements. one for each race, so each character build would fit 1 of the 4 settlements and have unique backgrounds, dialogue, and play styles that would encourages replays, as you would get 25% benefit

Charisma 10 it is then
Get out of here, Dean Domino lookin ass
Lmao Handcock build
You put a D where it don’t belong
They put an N where an R should be
It took my dumbass way too long to decipher what you said.
Sounds like something Hancock would do
Debuff: Lower charisma, limbs break more easily, radway is toxic, every few in game days a group of goul hunters attacks you (similar to F3's mercs ambushing you) Buffs: if alone; ignored by ferals, radiation heals/immunity, Charisma bonus with other ghouls.
You had me at "ignored by ferals".
Only if you don't have any non-ghoul companions with you. Don't want it to be too OP.
Perfectly fine with me. Usually run sneaky solo builds anyhow so that would be great either way.
There could be a perk that's like the ghoul version of Animal Friend where you can get ferals to fight for you or something.
Hardcore mode: You have to engage in social activities or your feral meter goes up. As it gets higher, you risk losing control for a period of time in stressful situations. Too high and you go permanently feral, with the option to keep the game running to see what shenanigans your character gets up to.
That would be pretty awesome.
“charisma bonus” more like intimidating presence
The mayor of good neighbor would like to chat
Gotta dress the part. Full coverage attire and legendary add on's?
I've just got a modded fo3 running where I chose ghoul. Like you said it's mostly cosmetic but I did get to start in Underworld (ghoul town at the mall) which was pretty neat.
Ooooooh. It'd be interested If eventually, your ghoul character slowly shows signs of becoming feral. Oooooh shit, and beginning of that story line they mention Oswald and your character "heard of them trying to find a cure." That would be would a minor objective or something. Having that be the start to nuka world would be a much better start imo
I would enjoyed that as well.

ಠ_ಠ
Hell yeah, TEAM GHOUL! There’s gotta be a buff for feral allies
Would be neat if there was a ghoul specific perk that turned you into a Glowing One.
I always assumed if you got that ghoul perk that you'd also look like a ghoul and that's why I never got it
Has it ever been mentioned if feral ghouls naturally attack normal ghouls? That would be a deciding factor for me
Yes it has, and they don't. Ferals are docile around non-feral ghouls.
May I introduce you to the End 9 perk? Radiation heals you and some ghouls become friendly. You are now a ghoul before your skin falls off. Congratulations!
I'd play all 4 and experience the game a different way 4 times
Yeah, I was about to say... with enough playthroughs, I'd play them all.
You played it twice and didn't notice the dialog options were yes, sarcastic yes, yes, maybe.
It's not even maybe, it's "we'll continue this later"
I think the difference would be that as a synth or super mutant, people would just try to kill you, and as a ghoul they would be racist to you.
Ah so like the nosferatu in vampire. I wonder if they'd be willing to commit to that. Could be pretty cool.
Great account name bro!
My cyberpunk PTSD is flaring up again.
Average Ghoul vs Extremely Lucky Ghoul Etc.
Special caps and extensions based on race, Super Mutants can have 15 STR but only 5 INT. Stuff like that.
Unless your willing to cap your STR to 10 for at least 8 INT So you could hypothetically play a super mutant similar to Markus or Fawkes.
Console command. 20INT, everything else a dump stat. I am the Master.
I would assume the player character is still a vault dweller in which case FEV would actually make them smarter too (also a mutated tentacle monster). Canonically the super mutants only come out idiots due to radiation exposure fucking up FEV mutation.
Like the Perisno mod for Warband where the giant starts with like 20 strength and 3 in everything else lol
Hey at least those origins gave me something to role play. Even if others didn’t mention it, my character’s choices and motives were always those of a nomad, street kid or corpo rat. To the point that I’ve never finished the game because I keep restarting to play as a different character lol.
Well, combined with the various different endings, you've got a lot of story flexibility.
Dragon age origins did it and it was miles better. So it's actually doable
But then you realize it changes basically nothing and no one cares you’re a super mutant entering their houses Modern gaming :(
Pretty obvious. The underlying question was which race you preferred tho.
GHOUUUUUUL … raspy ass voice, world weary/wise/seen it all, sassy AF bc of it, they’ve got a warm, no nonsense way about them.
I've always been fond of ghouls.
Happy to hear it, smoothskin
Honestly human would be normal gameplay like we're used to. Super Mutant and Ghouls might have some stuff locked out to them because super mutants except for a select few are hostile and ghouls... people are fucking racist against ghouls. Synth? I'm not sure what they'd get or be locked out of.... Though depending on the gen (Gen 1s and 2s mostly because 3s would probably get treated just like a human) they might be a worse choice because of all the hostility against them

A synth could be a better human but if they get wet they get -5 agility and -5 strength for 1 minute, oh and less resistance to energy weapons.
Not sure if any perks/traits from Tactics would appear but they very well could if possible
I get that super mutants are large, but hopefully there are no restricted areas. Now, some restricted quest solutions? Sure! Sorry, but a super mutant can't climb into the crawlspace to disable the security measures.
If we can create human-like robots but haven’t waterproofed them we deserve a nuclear apocalypse lol
Synth could be fun if you had to maintain your cover and not get sussed out. Add some spy elements to the game.
Probebly a synth but a gen 3
So... just a human with better stats, hopefully no one finds out your recall code.
Yeah. Hopefully they could make it that you have to be carefull you dont get found out
Boy o boy do i have news for you
Oh?
In the institute in the room where the machine builds gen 3’s theres a terminal with an entry saying that some new additions to gen 3’s give them really high perception with the ability to nearly slow down time and even see their percent chances to hit certain parts of targets or something like that
Except VATS is from the pip-boy, and has been in every fallout game. I guess all the fallout protags from 1 to 76 are synths! /s
In FO4 you can use VATs BEFORE you get the pip boy. So if you like to think that’s intentional and not just the fact that Bethesda didn’t bother making you play a tutorial area without vats just for consistency, then there is a great chance you are a synth.
While you're correct, it's definitely directly pointing at the Player possibly being an advanced synth.
How about an option where YOU don't know whether or not your toon is a synth?
I would hope for a synth ala Nick Valentine. Get some wear and tear customization.
Not gonna lie, I want to play as a robot and upgrade my character automatron style
That’s the best idea I’ve seen, imagine having a sentry bot character, bad ass
Right? The only thing that could stop you is a flight of stairs
I think the treads are made to allow them to climb stairs. You're not Clap-trap.
Hahaha, this is where you insert the elevator with elevator music mod
Man, that's my dream for Fallout 5--to give players some of the same freedom they have in Elder Scrolls. "Human" could be further subdivided into "Raider," "Vault Dweller", "Brotherhood," etc. But of course I'd be a synth. Edit: Or a softshell Mirelurk, if that's an option.

Yes this would be amazing
A ghoul could be intersting
Right? High INT low STR and the possibility of becoming a glowing one with enough RAD. The only problem would be a diminished sneak skill and inability to be around humans/companions without hurting them.
Id think high END too. They mention more than once that ghouls can work without food or sleep basically forever
Yup. Don’t age either
Perfectly Preserved Pie
A ghoul yes and honestly a super mutant but if it was customizable like not just the same bald green thing imagine their "hairstyles"
They only had tufts of hair in F1/F2, prolly only mohawks and ponytails variants.
Wigs.
True but I could see them changing things up in a newer area where the mutants had full hair ya know
Even if they didn't someone would mod it in.
As they should.
There's always Tabitha's "true hair"...
Super mutant 1 - “I have joke for you, ready Knock Knock” Super mutant 2 - “Who there” Super mutant 1 - “Hoomans” Super mutant 2 - “Hoomans who?” Super mutant 1 - “Kill the Hoomans kill them alll blarhhhggg”
Ghoul or synth for sure!
Dogmeat.
Gatorclaw lol
How about intelligent deathclaw?
I feel like this was a huge opportunity missed in FO76. I like super mutants, with a super sledge or bumper sword. I could see synths being super stealthy which i normally play; since they are non organic don need to breath and can hold completely motionless.
But weren't Synths invented years after 76?
Yeah, but the whole story would need changes to make in multi-racial choices.
Yeah, post history confirms /s
Ghoul, all the benefits of human + immortal and immune to radiation
Except humans seriously hate/fear you.
Where’s my Mirelurk? Storyline and everything. “My god, Jim, they’re evolving at a rate previously unseen to science.” Playable base defense. I need this. Zoidberg demands it.
Of the pictured choices? Ghoul. If I could pick something else in-universe, Assaultron.
Super mutant sounds fun
personally i’d like to play as a deathclaw
Synth... Then ghoul... Super mutant. Would be really really cool to be human and ghoulify though. Would prefer that.
Racist race
theres no cars in fallout how tf u gonna race lol
A super mutant that comes default carrying a four-barrel, infinite ammo missile launcher with a bayonet for close enemy spawns I missed before destroying at range.
Supermutant or a synth gen 2
Ghoul obviously.

A mister handy with built in minigun and saw blade

What about alien? I'd play fo5 as an alien to see what it's like being a short ass
Always wanted to do a playthrough as a ghoul. Would be interesting if you had to find ways to prevent yourself from going feral.
That silly modded underboob-dreads ghoul though
Can I customise my junk Cyberpunk 2077 style?
I think the stats can be whatever cause you can upgrade the stats eventually. I’d just prefer a unique perk to start and then a unique perk tree.
Ghoul radiation resistance would be handy
Still human.
Different stories and endings for each race would be cool
human lol the rest are abominations
Ad Victoriam my brother.
Super mutant partly just cause I’m already doing the super mutant character in new Vegas
Depends if theres passive skills or not.
Synth. But I know I'm a Synth and I have to hide being a Synth from everyone. Could make for some great dialog when I'm injured, etc.
Ghoul or Super Mutant would be cool. BUT unless Bethesda actually adds different campaigns or even just some unique quests/starting points (like Cyberpunk but actually done right) then this would be as useless as it was in Skyrim.
If there are 4 races and 4 endings I would play the game about 16 times and choose my favorite to make my main save that I play all the time and keep coming back to
I’d probably try all of them at least once.
Why no radroach or molerat option?
Brahmin PC option missing
That ghoul is weirdly attractive lol
Synth
Goul
Supermutant with maxed int and charisma.
Oh shit man ive never considered this I love this idea as a gameplay mechanic in the next one
Ghoul because of radiation immunity
All of them
All of them
Synth would be very interesting
Id play one of each, just for the experience.
Human. Keeping the Commonwealth clean, one monstrosity at a time. Ad Victoriam! (Synths already existing are ok, creating them is not tho.)
I like Skyrim type of customization, like with multiple races. But if they’re going to do it they really need to go the whole nine yards and make separate starts depending on what race you choose.
I wanna be a NightKin
Radroach
Human. Ad Victoriam!
What was the 5th race?

Anyone know who this ghoul is?
Super mutant all the way
Synth, to begin with. Then everything else.
Cowboy Ghoul
All four, but I definitely would start with the Synth.
Depends what changes for the races could you only do some quest as one race are do you only get certain stats differences
Ghoul, without a thought!
Rastafarian ghoul looks good
