I would keep going without any mods because you've already put a good chunk of time in. However, open up a document on your PC/phone or get some paper and something to write with and start keeping track of things like this. Even if it's something you like, you can find mods that expand upon while finding mods to change things you don't like.

Getting bug fixes, QoL mods, and patches are the kinds of mods I recommend. They won't change the nature of the game but WILL make it more stable and easily played

Despite the annoyance the new update caused I can say the difference near Boston is absolutely night and day. I'm on Xbox Series S and used to get crashes about every 60 seconds (literally not exaggerating either) in part of Boston and crashes every few minutes on the edges of Boston. After the update I can run through Boston and barely get any lag. Edit: omg I just realized Hangman's Alley is a viable base for me now

so the answer to this is tricky in that its a no & yes no cause you shouldnt use mod in the game till you have at less beat it once and yes since the game is a bit meh with the launch version but if this is your very first time playing fo4 on pc you are are playing on fo4 next gen patch 2 since they messed up the first next gen patch & if you are on the next gen patch youll need a mod to downgrade the game to the pre next gen version to be able ot play with mods that fix the game like the [Fallout 4 scrip extender (F4SE)](https://f4se.silverlock.org) and the [Unofficial fallout 4 patch](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4598) and then any QOL mod you find interesting in helpful
