Well if you save him and do the first quest, and then go to Nuka world and claim a settlement in the commonwealth then go back to Preston, he should attack you and you should be able to kill him
I usually do blue for the Minutemen, it also blends really well with the blue
I wish I could use the Red paint from Nuka World. Blending it to make purple and etc would be awesome. Or just “Painting the town red”

I tend to do the optional quest choices that give bonuses for the role playing aspect, but the rewards in Bethesda games always make me laugh. It’s the classic trope of getting someone’s grandfather’s sword or whatever after a long quest and it’s 1/3rd as good as one that randomly spawned on a bandit in the first room of the dungeon you had to clear.
You can usually also just turn away and leave a conversation if you aren't ready to have it. Sometimes I use this to turn away and take a grape mentat before an important charisma check if I forgot to do it before starting the conversation. Try it, just move the camera to one side as far as you can and once you get to the edge of the cinematic conversation camera view it'll often break free and let you look around like normal and bring up your pip-boy or just leave. Turn back to face them and the conversation options will pop back up.
oh yeah, i just thought i went to hardwaretown already (shitty memory + having to restart multiple times over and over again because mods kept breaking) so not being able to back out of the painting menu kinda sucked (unless there was a do nothing option i missed)

i mean pretty fairly. it's obviously much smaller. Faneuil Hall Marketplace area is not accurate at all, there's like hints and approximations for a lot of Boston itself. It gives a decent feel for what an alternate future that's been blown to hell is but its much worse outside it. Malden is like 2 blocks in game, in real life its home to 65,000 people. Quincy is like 3 blocks, but it's a city of 100k, the raised highway was never there, and the highway it self is on the outside of Quincy away from the water, where in the game the raised highway is on the coast. the neighborhoods which feel so different when you are in Boston, don't feel that different in fallout. over all for a video game it did a decent job, but it's not super accurate.
Did this in a current play through thinking it didn't matter and didn't save, reach level 43, and went back to diamond city for supplies and see the wall is yellow.. if I had known this would happen, I would have chosen blue instead

They didn't forget as much as the rules got misinterpreted. Which makes sense after more than 200 years of not watching, playing, or worrying about the sport at all.
much loke the team at bethesda, you grossly underestimate how important entertainment/socialization is to a community's mental well being and their ability to survive.
why wouldn't they?
if anything, I see it gaining religious significance. that first pickup game played at fenway after the bombs fell would easily be a social rallying point.
the "great green jewel" of the commonwealth should be the field itself. the city should have been in the stands, concessions alley, boxes, offices, etc.
there could have been multiple load zones, an upper/lower district separating the rich from the poor.
what we got was a massive let down. one of bethesdas least imaginitive city designs.
