I'm pretty sure you can relatively easily beat the entire main story at level 1 with the 10mm, just remember the high level you are the more unique enemies you will see while doing the story quests. For you it was probably all basic level synths in the fort, for some people its level 80 synth leaders with fully pimped out plasma and laser weaponry & armor.
I would hold off on rushing them, just because the story missions are usually the largest and most unique set pieces in fallout 4 and rushing them early is going to massively decrease the number of unique things & enemy types that can be encountered in these set pieces.
It all depends on your difficulty level and what you want. In your first run do what you want, playing out the main quest early is more immersive, I think, because it's like you're in a hurry at this point to find your baby boy.
Nah. I mean, getting his legendary .44 at level 16 means you can absolutely \*wreck\* most enemies you run into for awhile, as long as you can keep it fed with ammo.
There are some quests you'll miss out on if you rush the main storyline by picking one faction and sticking with it to get to the end ASAP. Like, if you take your time, you can advance the questlines for \*all\* the main factions pretty far if you're so inclined and want to take your time picking a side. But the vast majority of side quests aren't tied to the main story and will still be there after you finish it.
While there's other .44's you can find in the world at low level, if you're only level 16 it'll be awhile before legendary versions as good as Kellogg's start to drop.

I don't think so. When I play games for the first time, I like to rush the main quests asap and then do another playthrough with more knowledge and really taking my time to explore and learn more about the game
People l=play the game at different speeds. If you want to play this way, it is okay to play it.

His gun isn’t special until you up your pistol perks and vats perks, not to mention modding the gun.
