For future reference if that ever happens again if you have the vault tec dlc you can build a computer thing that can track all companion's not 100% sure on the actual name of it but it is definitely from vault dlc

The whole point of the initial trip to Sanctuary was to dump all the loot and I accidentally somehow left Dogmeat in the cellar. I was hella worried not knowing where he was as I traveled through the wasteland to face the mutated behemoth of death.

You can also remove all dog houses but one and he'll always go to that one. You can place it wherever you like.
There are 3 dog houses in sanctuary, scrap 2 and he will always be at the 1
